News from St Mary’s Academy

The children have all settled back into the school routine very well and it’s amazing how quickly the summer holidays are forgotten! We are hoping for continued mild weather so that we can fully enjoy our wonderful outside areas.

By the time this item is published, we will have taken part in our school Harvest Festival Celebration - a special assembly enjoyed by all of our children at a time when helping others is even more appreciated. Alongside our daily Collective Worship - Moonstone, Crystal, Emerald, Amethyst and Diamond Classes will be leading assemblies during the month. Parents are invited to attend and enjoy these. Please check our weekly Newsletter or website for more information and updates.

Our individual and family photographs will be taken on Thursday 13th October with a new company this year – ideal gifts for that ‘season’ that will be upon us all too quickly!

Our 2023 New Parents Information Evening is also to be held on Thursday 13th October at 7.00pm. Families of children on our potential admission list are invited to come along for an information evening about starting school in 2023 and what they can look forward to during their time at St Mary’s. Everyone is welcome to attend this very important meeting. Flu vaccinations are also available for all children during October.

Finally, we should mention that we are well into the new learning mission for the Autumn Term, including 'All About Me' in Reception Classes, ‘Nurturing Nurses' in Key Stage 1 and ‘The Anglo Saxons' and ‘The Stone Age’ in Key Stage 2 which will include workshops/visits that should prove to be fun and educational.

We are only just back at school from the summer break but October Half Term is from Monday 24th to Friday 28th October with an INSET training day on Monday 31st October.

News from Fairfield Lower School

The sun welcomed back the children of Fairfield Park to start the term and their transition to new year groups or to joining the school has been met with lots of smiles, engaged learners and an eagerness to learn. Children in year groups one to four chose their own topics to focus their learning for the first two weeks of term; children designed mythical creatures, built Minecraft-inspired worlds and explored volcanoes as part of their wider themed topics.

Setting up our pupil leadership teams has also been a focus, where children could assume leadership roles in our school council, eco-council or gardening committees – speeches were given and the pupils showed their value of democracy to vote for their preferred candidate in each class.

During the first half of the Autumn term the topics that are being covered by all classes are: Penguins and Squirrels: All about me Barn Owl, Snowy Owl, Honey Bee Class: Super Me Badger, Hedgehog, Turtle Class: Toy Story, Swan, Robin, Seahorse Class: My Fascinating Fairfield, Panda, Fox & Otter Class: Set in Stone, Toucan, Kingfisher & Kestrel Class: Extreme Earth.

Parent Consultations take place on Tuesday October 18th and Thursday the 20th. We look forward to welcoming our parents into the school to discuss their children’s progress.
