This month we have an update from our Key Stage 1 team:

In Key Stage 1, we have had a fantastic start to our Autumn term after our long summer break. We were all eager to get started in our new year groups and have now settled into our new classrooms beautifully. We have enjoyed getting to know our new teachers through fun circle times, we have shared special memories from our summer and have also taken part in lots of lovely friendship activities.

In Year 1, our new topic is 'A Toy Story' . We have started looking at the artist Andy Warhol, focusing on his use of colour and repeating patterns. We will now be creating our own block patterns from toys that we have sketched and look forward to making our own printing tiles to complete our designs!

In other areas of the curriculum, we have been reading the exciting story 'Lost in the Toy Museum' and have enjoyed opportunities to act out the different scenes of the toys playing hide and seek. We now look forward to carrying out some writing-based activities to retell all of the events of the order.

Elsewhere in KS1, Year 2 have also launched their new topic called 'Fire and Ice' . The children have already learnt so much about the historical events of 'The Great Fire of London' and have enjoyed exploring a range of replica artefacts to aid them with finding out the causes and consequences of the fire. The children have then applied their new knowledge to writing their own diary entry in the style of Samuel Pepys and will also be creating their own abstract fire themed artwork! It has been such a positive start to the school year and after a much-needed summer holiday, it is now so lovely to be back together as a Roecroft Family.
