Once again, we are proud to report that the Stotfold Nature Reserve has been awarded a Green Flag. The Green Flag Award is the benchmark international standard for publicly accessible parks and green spaces in the United Kingdom. This award is an enormous tribute to the work of the volunteer members of the local conservation group, TEASEL, who manage the site on behalf of the Stotfold Mill Preservation Trust. The award has been gained every year since 2012 and the mill trustees offer their sincere congratulations and gratitude to the members of TEASEL. If you are not one of the countless members you can f of ind the out public more who abou v t is it it the reser by visiting ve, the which Green is open every Flag website day throughout the year, CLAIRE’S (www.greenflaward.org/park-summary/?park=1319). CAT SITTING Unfortunately, there seems to be some younger members of the community who not only see no value in the nature reserve. Sadly, we have to report that fences have been damaged and graffiti daubed over the bird recognition charts in the hide. Whilst the culprits are perhaps unlikely to read this report, possibly their parents might and question how they are spending their time around town. We were delighted to receive a communication from an Australian citizen, Allan Waldock who will be visiting this country in September and is hoping to visit Stotfold Mill whilst he is here. Allan’s great, great, great grandfather was David Waldock, who owned the Mill between 1841 and 1863. David was the son of George Waldock who bought the Mill in 1841. Together with his brother, Henry, David became joint owner of the Mill on the death of his father in 1854. We look forward to welcoming Allan to the Mill and perhaps learning more of the Waldock family story. September raises thoughts of the Working Steam Weekend, this year taking on 8th & 9th October. Once again, the field opposite the Mill will be filled with steam-driven machines brought from across the country. Other features include a collection of trade and craft stalls, as well as a real ale bar and food outlets. The Mill will be open both days, subject to water availability in the river. Tickets now available on our website (www.stotfoldmill.com) for £8 and £4.
