Respacing We can manage to guess what most buildings contain by just looking at them. A big building. - A factory, some sort of public building or maybe an office? We recognize the different building typologies and we manage to differentiate a cabin from a house, even though they look more or less the same. We also read the surroundings, the context. A house in the countryside with a lot of land, a farm. A house in the city with a lot of land, some rich guy. But what happens when we put a building in a context it doesn’t belong? Or build buildings with familiar shapes with a different content than we expect?

Community living In the first floor, a pool, a common living space, a cinema and a laundry. In one end of the building a big glass room filled with plants. In the other end of the building, a big spiral staircase that leads to the second floor. The second floor has a horseshoe shaped atrium that connects the different rooms and the stair. At the top of the stair there is a lookout with one of the best views in Dale.

Cabin There is no doors in the cabin, just some sort of shutters. Inside there is a humble kitchen with an integrated wood fired oven. The cabin is so small that there is no room for a bedroom, the bed is suspended from the ceiling. In the corner of the cabin there is a steep ladder you have to climb to reach the bed. Under the bed there is a small table.

Boat The boat has been laying outside of dale for years. The exact position vary a lot, the buoy it is attached to is very loose. On sunny days the owner of the boat, roll of the roof and goes fishing to a nearby sweet spot. To maximize the living area, the steering hut has been moved from its original position and attached oddly on the side. On the steering hut there is a small outboard motor that barely can handle the boat. But it works. Inside there is a small stair going down to the bathroom, were the original motor used to be. On the main floor there is benches running along the walls. They are full of all sorts of stuff. Kitchen appliances, tools, clothes, food, spare part‌ You name it. There is no bedroom in the boat, but along the ceiling there is a series of hooks were you can hang your hammock. In the front of the boat there is a large deck with an overhanging roof, nice on both sunny and rainy days.

Shoe factory The raw skin is delivered in one of the entrances on the long side of the building. The skin is brought to a series of bathtubs filled with toxic chemicals to get rid of the hair and are tanning the skin. Then a series of operations along a production line. Cutting, stitching, sewing, hammering and gluing. In the end a finished product, a shoe. The factory was built with a high roof to lessen the toxic fumes for the workers. Because of new HSE regulations, a new ventilation system and a glass wall for improved daylight conditions have been installed. On the opposite side of the glass wall there is a giant chimney. The chimney was once connected to a large oven were waste from the factory used to be burned. It was a constant yellow fog over dale. It’s not like that anymore, the fire is put out and the chimney is only used for the ventilation system.

The barracks The barracks was supposedly used by the Germans up north. After the war a Swedish guy fitted wheels to it and brought it to Dale were he settled. After the swede passed, know one really knows who owns it and it is therefore seen up on as common. Every Thursday it is used for bingo among the pensioners and on the last Friday of the month it is used for payday pils among the local farmers. The barrack had originally two bedrooms, a bathroom, a kitchen and a retrofitted entrance. Now both of the bedrooms no longer have beds but have been filled up with tables and chairs.
