The weather in our state was certainly pleasant this past weekend. It was ideal for cruising, ATV or motorcycle riding, or just about any other outdoor activity. We may complain that we haven’t had many nice weekends this summer, but after viewing some of the devastation the people of Texas are currently enduring, it seems we shoul d count our lucky stars. It’s difficult to imagine what those folks are going through at this moment. Let’s keep those who have been displaced or suffered great losses in our thoughts and prayers. Speaking of good fortune, we are quite lucky to have captured so many loyal readers after just over two month s. My initial goal was to establish the largest readership of any automotive publication in Central and Western Pennsylvania – A goal that we’ve accomplished in the past. Thank s to a great team of people, driving well over 3000 miles every week to deliver throughout the region, our distrib ution has been refined and our readership has now matur ed to a level that I had hoped for – and it continues to impro ve. That is what drives results. We have also been very fortunate, and grateful, that a number of advertisers placed heavy bets on our succe ss. They know our track record and made the switch to Rides ! Magazine on day 1. They have stuck with us and that bet has now paid off. They tell us that they get superior result s and they’re here to stay. You’ll hear of their experience s in upcoming issues. Labor Day weekend is upon us, offering the opportunity to spend a little extra time away from work, doing the things we enjoy. You may be planning to attend one or more of the many car shows, cruise ins, races and other relate d events scheduled through the holiday. The future of the classic car and motorsports world remains a bit uncle ar. Younger people don’t often seem to be interested in autom obiles the way they once were. In the “old days”, we needed to drive to have a social life. Today, they have cell phones, texting and, of course, social media. There is a lesser need to be physically together in order to hang out. As a result, the number of teen and young adult driver s has diminished in recent years. Therefore they don’t really relate to the attachment we old farts have to these big hunks of metal. It’s important, when we are able, to includ e our kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews or the neighbor kids in the hobby. Enthusiasm is contagious. Get them behind the wheel of an old car. All the cool chrome knobs , the sounds and smells that are part of the experience , can pique their interest. Take them for a ride in a musc le car or hot rod. Run it through the gears and let them exper ience the feeling of being pushed back into the seat, hearin g the bark of the exhaust and the chirp of the tires with each gear change. It comes down to showing them why these old cars can bring more smiles per gallon. The future of the hobby lies in their hands. Manufacturers are now churning out 2018 models, which are beginning to show up in dealer showrooms. Roun dhouse Harley-Davidson in Duncansville already has more than 20 new 2018 Harleys in their showroom with more on the way. Stop in to check them out. Get yours reserv ed before somebody else does! The change of model years (and seasons) brings about price changes on everything – new and used. That create s opportunities to save big. For example, if you’ve been pondering the purchase of a new mower, ponder no more. PACKS ‘EM IN AT THE CADET

he Wednesday, August 16, 2017, Kit-Han-Ne Car Club cruise-in at the Cadet Restaurant, US Route 422 east, Kittanning, PA, was a charity cruise in support of the Mechling Shakley Veterans’ Center on Route 268, Cowansville, PA. They had 107 cars in attendance and were able to donate $565 to the Veterans’ Center. They had a real antique ice cream vendor truck, a 1974 American General, serving ice cream and club member Roy Williamson’s antique hot dog vendor’s cart with club members doing the cooking and serving. They served residents, in attendance, from the Veterans’ Center and also

residents from the Kittanning Care facility. The restaurant is managed by the same owner, George Morda, since 1952, and has a roadside giant, named Sam, a 3 story fiberglass cowboy holding a Poor Boy sandwich - the restaurant’s signature sandwich. The Kit-Han-Ne Car Club holds five cruise-ins per year at the Cadet, on the 3rd Wednesday of the month from 4 to 8 PM, May through September. Plan to cruise out to the Cadet for the final cruise of 2017, Wednesday, September 20. They have space for 100 cars/bikes/trucks and have 100 dash plaques, music, 50/50, goody bags and door prizes for participants.

et ready for a full day of fun and excitement in the mud in Clarence, PA on September 10, 2017. The Snow Shoe Mud Races help raise money for the Snow Shoe Volunteer Fire Company. Race day is formed by 20-40 racers from around the state participating in a side-by-side action course of numerous hills, turns and mud holes. Theyâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ll be racing anything from backwoods beaters to mega trucks in multiple classes competing for the top spot in their category.

This is a great family event with admission of just $10 for adults and $5 for children. Racers registration fee is $25. Come on out for a family fun day full of excitement September 10. All proceeds go towards fire company equipment and training to help better serve the community and surrounding areas.
