WORDS FROM THE MANAGER

PAUL MUSGROVE

WE ARE BACK AT HOME! IT IS ALWAYS GREAT TO HAVE A HOME GAME WITH ALL OF OUR SUPPORTERS.

5 We are back at home!! It always great to have a home game with all our supporters. I realise not every away game is easy for everyone to get to that’s why its always good to get back to the home of nonleague football. Last week was a huge game and test for us up against Grey’s who were second in the league. Off the back of back to back two nil wins the management team were looking for consistency, hard work when out of possession, decision making to be on point, final third play to be more ruthless. We got all of these and this was our best performance of the season. So that’s three wins in a row. However this means nothing if we cannot continue this mini run. Hashtag pose a different challenge today. One we need to workout early in the game but impose ourselves early and ensure we are winning our individual battles. As your all aware with have been hit with the dreaded Covid 19 virus within the 1st team. At the time of writing we still have one player who is still affected by this.

As a team we still need to be more ruthless in the final third but we are better than a month ago so this is pleasing. At the time of writing this we are missing through injury, Dom Docherty, Craig Parker, Josh Curry and Jack Ainsley. Jack Ainsley has been immense this season and is a huge miss for us. Craig Parker was just finding his feet after the last injury and influencing games so these boys will be missed. But as ever we will support them and ensure the squad units together. Dom Docherty has had a scan and revealed his has an ACL issue. At the time of writing he was waiting to see a specialist to see the full extent of the damage. Thank you for your wonderful support. It is much appreciated by us all and please continue to make loads of noise. As always I am happy to speak to anyone after the game over a pint if you have any questions. This I feel is important to have transparency throughout the club.

Stay safe and thank you again for your support. Muzzy

As I have said before there is a pathway and for our youth lads will get minutes at the right time. Alex Clarke is leading the way as a contender to be a regular in the first team squad. The club should be proud of this and hopefully this will encourage other to do the correct things on and off the pitch.

GRAYS AFC 0 STOW TOWN 2 Saturday 13th November 2021 GRAYS Match Report: Iain van der Ree The Old Gold & Blacks turn on the style away at Grays Athletic. The Parkside crowd of 311 anticipating the prospect of a tough match between two sides at the higher end of the league table hadn’t envisaged the visitors bringing their “A” game to the Essex side. Stowmarket burst out the blocks from the kick off, dominating all areas of the pitch with their passing accuracy and attacking play restricting Athletic to a few incursions into the Suffolk half. Much to the delight of the travelling supporters, Luke Brown got the breakthrough in the 24th minute with a shot on goal that went under the keeper and into the net for a 0-1 lead at halftime. Stow increased the intensity after the break pressing for that elusive, but inevitable 2nd goal which eventually came from a corner, which found Joe Jefford in acres of space, to score with a rocket like header deep into the home net to seal the win. With their current form of 3 straight wins, 3 clean sheets and 5th in the table, a beaming Paul Musgrove already has eyes set on his side’s home game against Hashtag United on Saturday.

THE CHAIRMAN

NEIL SHARP

We are excited by the challenge ahead

STOWMARKET Town chairman Neil Sharp says he knows he won’t sleep much on Friday night. Sharp (pictured above) is counting down the days to the club’s first-ever Step 4 fixture – the culmination of seven years’ hard work at the club. The Old Gold & Blacks were awarded promotion from the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division under The FA’s restructuring earlier in the summer after two Covid-interrupted seasons. They will start life in the Pitching In Isthmian League on the opening day of the 2021-22 season on Saturday at home to Canvey Island, kick-off 3pm. “I won’t sleep much on Friday night,” admitted 60-year-old Sharp, who has been chairman of the club for around ten years. “I don’t often sleep well the night before a game, but I know I won’t this weekend, which will be a combination of everything that’s been going on. “Saturday will be a great day for the club, although we will have to wait and see how many spectators turn up to watch, but hopefully the sun will be shining and they will see a good game.” Sharp has been involved with the club for 40 years, although not continuously, starting out as a player in the days when Stowmarket’s home ground was at Cricket Meadow in the town. The club have come a long way since then, but especially since they were languishing in the lower half of Division One of the Thurlow Nunn League seven years ago.

HISTORY OF HASHTAG UTD Hashtag United Football Club was founded in 2016 by YouTube creator Spencer Owen, initially set up as a group of friends playing a charity match to honour a childhood friend. Over the next two years, Hashtag played friendlies and exhibition matches in an innovative league format devised by Spencer. The team had points targets set for a group of games, and if the targets were achieved, the team would be rewarded by The Chairman and would progress to the next level. The team played in this format across 7 countries against pro football staff teams, fellow YouTube creators, sponsor/brand teams, non-league and Sunday sides. The squad was bolstered by the addition of YouTube creators Theo Baker and Charlie Morley, and then graduates of the Hashtag Academy talent series which had run on Spencer’s channel. Several thousand applicants were whittled down over a series of football challenges which eventually saw 16-year-old Scott Pollock emerge victorious. After impressing for Hashtag, Scott joined Northampton Town, making his senior debut in the 2018/19 season. During this initial chapter the club also participated in the Next Level 7-a-side YouTube league and were invited to play in front of thousands of fans in the annual Wembley Cup alongside some of their footballing heroes. In 2018 the club applied for entry into the FA’s National League System, looking to make the considerable transition from exhibition team to a competitive club in the 10th tier of English football.

They were granted a place in the Eastern Senior League Division 1 (South) for the 2018/19 season and appointed experienced non-league manager Jay Devereux to lead the transition, with home games being played at Haringey Borough’s stadium. Despite a tough start, thanks to two long winning runs the team ended the season as champions, ensuring promotion at the first time of asking. The squad for the club’s Essex Senior League campaign was further bolstered by the addition of more experienced non-league players and several from the second Academy series including winner Joshua Osude. At the point at which the 2019/20 season was voided, the club sat second with games in hand over the league leaders, and in two cup semi-finals. The 2020/21 season was curtailed, but not before the club had a chance to make a dramatic debut in the Emirates FA Cup. A narrow victory over Park View in the Extra Preliminary round was followed by an extraordinary game against Felixstowe & Walton United, which ended in the secondlongest penalty shoot out in FA Cup history, The Tags winning 13-12. The following round again saw the team pitched against higher opposition, with the BBC Sport cameras in attendance for the tie against Soham Town Rangers. Another penalty shootout victory followed, setting up a huge challenge against Braintree Town in the Second Qualifying Round. Despite Hashtag taking the lead in the dying minutes, Braintree equalised immediately and then went on to win the shootout, The Tags’ penalty luck finally running out.

STOW TOWN RESERVES

Words from the Reserve Team manager Craig Brown “We welcomed Hadleigh Res to Greens Meadow Saturday looking to book a place in the Q-final of the Senior Res Cup. We had lots of injuries & no goal keeper available, Sam Blewitt stepped up to go between the sticks. We started the game on the front foot but conceded after 15 mins totally against the run of play. We had missed two great chances to take the lead before the goal, both missed by centre half Tom Goddard. We finished the half how we started, We just couldn’t take a chance so went in at half time trailing 1-0. The lads came out second half how we finished the first & finally got their deserved reward, top scorer Jack Wharton-Rhichardson adding to his season tally with a cool finish. We kept plugging away and finally went in front when left back Dan knights finally got rewarded for his constant good runs & smashed the ball past the Hadleigh goalkeeper making it 2-1. Just before the final whistle quick thinking free kick from captain James Graham set Jack WhartonRichardson through and the young striker made no mistake adding his second, sending us through to the next round. Very happy gaffer with all the problems we had to come over, a top performance that we need to take into next Saturday’s away game against a very good Walsham res side”
