WORDS FROM THE MANAGER

PAUL MUSGROVE

“ WE WELCOME YOU ALL TO GREENS MEADOW THIS EVENING ”

5 We welcome you all to Greens Meadow this evening. We extend this to the players, staff and committee of Ipswich Town We are back again at the home of non-league football off the back a very hard game against Great Wakering Rovers. Tricky conditions greeted us. However the boys went about their business in the right way. In the end it was a comfortable afternoon. I had a nearly full team to pick from and to gain any success this season we will need everyone to play their part. Tonight is a nice distraction away from league action. Playing Ipswich 18’s/ u23’s I think is a huge milestone for the club. Whatever team Ipswich put out its a night the club can be proud of and hope it’s a money maker for the club in what is still tough economic conditions. If you haven’t noticed or unaware ground improvements are in progress to get the ground grading required to stay at step 4 or move onto step 3. If anyone reading the notes can help in anyway please contact the club via Twitter or the Club Website. We all need to remember where we are at and where we have been and stay grounded. It’s tough because over the last five years we have had more ups than downs so we when we don’t perform at all of our high standards it feels like a loss. We have no god given right to think any game will be easy.

Whatever tonight’s result buy a pint grab burger and make a huge noise. With 11 games to go in the league. 6 of these are at home. Sing your hearts out, bang the drum and cheer in the lads as it makes such a huge huge difference. I hope we all push together to see how far we can go. Please keep showing your continued support for the whole club and teams as it’s massive to us all on match days. Muzzy

We are excited by the challenge ahead

STOWMARKET Town chairman Neil Sharp says he knows he won’t sleep much on Friday night. Sharp (pictured above) is counting down the days to the club’s first-ever Step 4 fixture – the culmination of seven years’ hard work at the club. The Old Gold & Blacks were awarded promotion from the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division under The FA’s restructuring earlier in the summer after two Covid-interrupted seasons. They will start life in the Pitching In Isthmian League on the opening day of the 2021-22 season on Saturday at home to Canvey Island, kick-off 3pm. “I won’t sleep much on Friday night,” admitted 60-year-old Sharp, who has been chairman of the club for around ten years. “I don’t often sleep well the night before a game, but I know I won’t this weekend, which will be a combination of everything that’s been going on. “Saturday will be a great day for the club, although we will have to wait and see how many spectators turn up to watch, but hopefully the sun will be shining and they will see a good game.” Sharp has been involved with the club for 40 years, although not continuously, starting out as a player in the days when Stowmarket’s home ground was at Cricket Meadow in the town. The club have come a long way since then, but especially since they were languishing in the lower half of Division One of the Thurlow Nunn League seven years ago.

SATURDAY 19TH FEB 2022 Match Report: Iain van der Ree

STOWMARKET SECURE LEAGUE STATUS WITH A PROFESSIONAL PERFORMANCE AGAINST GREAT WAKERING

GREAT WAKERING ROVERS 1 Tim Brown 2 Jaden Crowhurst 3 Morisi Gelashvili 4 Billy Harris 5 Luke Reeve 6 Stevie Hart-Sheehan 7 Jake Gordon 8 George Cox 9 Darnell Mavanga- Kithambo 10 Lewis Jaggs 11 Alex Clark

Stowmarket travelled to Burrows Park in the full knowledge that a win would guarantee the Suffolk side the top spot in the league title chase. Manager Paul Musgrove had the rare luxury of naming a near full strength team who duly set about Rovers from the kickoff. It took just 3 minutes for Stow to go ahead, when keeper James Bradbrook, who is unbeaten in goal for February launched a huge throw to Luke Brown who played a delightful pass finding inform Reggie Lambe running through on goal and with still plenty of work to do, the Bermudan International rounded the diving Rovers keeper to calmly slot the ball into the net. The Stow juggernaut continued to attack searching for their second of the afternoon which came near the end of the first half as Willie Clemons collected an overhit corner, drilling his shot across goal for Joe Jefford to fire home. The second half turned out to be a one-sided affair with Old Gold and Blacks frustratingly unable to take advantage of their dominance, despite numerous chances and closed out the half as Musgrove took the opportunity to rest players with his team’s promotion push very much in the forefront of his thoughts. The league leaders play Basildon United at home on Saturday. Goals: Reggie Lambe 3’ Joe Jefford 42’ Attendance: 115

STOW TOWN RESERVES

Words from the Reserve Team manager Craig Brown We traveled away v Hadleigh Res Saturday. We started the game very brightly Jack hitting the crossbar in the first minute of the game. We missed a couple of chances before Hadleigh got a penalty against the run of play to go 1-0 up. We sorted ourselves out Reon Huckvale got quick fire double to put us in the lead then captain Graham headed in Huckvale’s corner to put us 3-1 up on the 40 minute mark but on the stroke of half time Hadleigh pulled a goal back to make it 3-2. The second half was a frustrating one to say the least we missed 3 glorious chances to kill the game but Hadleigh never stopped battling & secured a point in the 80th minute we dust ourselves down & go again next Saturday at home to Diss Town Res.

STOW TOWN U18’S

Words from the manager Liam Hawkins Boys took control of the game from kick off. Working hard to win the ball back and moving the ball round the park really well. Stow unlucky not to be running away with the game going in at half time. We had the better of the chances and despite all our efforts we just couldn’t convert to put the game to bed at 1-0. Jack WR hitting the crossbar from distance and Tarek Elomri skimming the post from Cameron Taylor’s cross. A sloppy error at the back from us to concede drawing it back level. This gave Woodbridge momentum in the latter stages of the game and 8 minutes before full time the referee awarded a soft pen that the Woodbridge skipper tucked away. A few changes to the system that didn’t work but overall a learning curve we will take from. Certainly all be more wiser when we return to Greens Meadow for our encounter with Felixstowe & Walton in 2 weeks time. MOM – Mileeq Banya A real force playing out of position. Wasn’t a duel I don’t think he lost out in. One for the future definitely! All the best to Woodbridge for the rest of the season much more clinical than us on the night. Two great games this season! A special mention to man of the match Liam knights the 18 year old never stopped running all game, also Harvey Talbot, Frederico, Dende, Jack Wharton-Richardson, Aidan Phar and Reon Huckvale all put in solid performances. We now look forward to another tough away game v Hadleigh Res next Saturday, hoping to keep climbing up the table after a difficult last month.
