The Life

O D D

zzie iane alton was born in Blackstone, Virginia, on December 8, 1945, to her proud parents; Quincy Alphonza and Pauline Rebecca Hobbs Dalton. With a heart for helping others, Diane enrolled into Bronx Community College and received a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Nursing, in 1976. She then earned the status of a Registered Nurse, RN-C. She went on to enjoy a long fulfilling career in Nursing spanning over 40 years until she retired. “Di”, as she was affectionately called, fellowshipped with a “Circle of Diva” friends, where they enjoyed traveling and with whom she gracefully coordinated fabulous gatherings and dinner parties. On December 8, 1991, she married her soul mate and beloved, Douglas Tarver and they enjoyed almost 28 years of marital joy, adventure, and bliss, before her passing.

Diane loved her family, unapologetically. She was known for calling to check in on them, sharing insightful advice, offering graceful correction, or sending out periodic text messages just to let them know that they were loved and that she was thinking about them. Of course, all of this took place in between the times that she spoiled her grandsons with an endless supply of affection and love. On Friday, March 29, 2019, she answered her ultimate call and join the ranks of heaven’s choir. She was preceded in death by her parents, her Uncles; Charles, Theodore, Jr., and Robert Dalton, and her Aunt Ozzie Charlene Dalton Robinson; and her brother, Quincey Alphonza Dalton, Jr. She leaves behind a loving family who strives to follow her example of a fully lived life in her joyful uncompromising fashion; her adoring husband, Douglas Tarver; two sisters, Renee Daniels (Reverend Gerald, Sr.) and Brenda “Peaches” Dalton-Williams (Darnell); one brother, Bruce Dalton (Jackie); her daughter, Tanya Porter Hodges (Rickey); her son, Robert Johnson; two grandsons, Dante Porter and Quincy Porter; four aunts, Alberta (Walter†) Henderson, Frances (Robert†) Dalton, Nell (Theodore†) Dalton Johnson, and Alethea Elaine Dalton Cosby; 16 first cousins; four nieces and four nephews; and one grandnephew and one grand-niece. A host of other family members and dearly beloved friends. And her fluffy special companion, China.

LIFE IS BUT A STOPPING PLACE Life is but a stopping place, A pause in what’s to be, A resting place along the road, To sweet eternity. We all have different journeys, Different paths along the way, We all were meant to learn some things, But never meant to stay... Our destination is a place, Far greater than we know. For some the journey’s quicker, For some the journey’s slow. And when the journey finally ends, We’ll claim a great reward, And find an everlasting peace, Together with the lord Author unknown

Love Farewell, Dear Sister

You were strong, classy, and beautiful with capabilities to take you as far is you wanted to go. I appreciated your wisdom, courage wit, and compassion for others, even our pets. To say that I will miss you, are words that seem so few, but to know that you’ve entered our Father’s care, all praise to Him is due. Love Bruce and Jackie

Dearest Diane, If tears could build a stairway, and memories a lane, I would walk right up to you and bring you back again. No farewell words were spoken, no time to say goodbye. You were gone before I knew it and only God knows why. My heart still aches with sadness and secret tears still flow. What it means to love you, no on can ever know. But now I know you want me to mourn for you no more, But to remember all the happy times that life still has in store. Since you will never be forgotten, I pledge to you today, A hollowed place within my heart, is where you’ll always stay. Love your Sister, Peaches

In loving memory, Auntie You will be in my heart forever Such a delicate flower to me. Always smelling like the sweet scent Of your favorite perfume Such a classy lady, While entering a room. You wore nothing but the best clothing Nothing but the best. You walked with your head held high I am a proud niece of a Queen Lady Di. You would give me a look like “Akisha, Akisha, you know Auntie” You better not dare. I had to steal kisses ‘cause you Didn’t want you make-up to smear I just loved you so much My feelings I had to show I had to share. Auntie Diane, if you can hear me now I can’t say those words goodbye I just don’t know how The gate is open in Heaven So sorry you must go. Remember I will alway love you Of course that you know. Love

(A Poem written for Diane’s 70th Birthday) If a book of my life were to be written, You’d surely be in the last chapter. But as for how you have inspired me, No words can describe or capture. I love that not only can we laugh, We can talk, and we can even argue And get past all differences in the love I give, And get back from you For there is no problem too big Or one that has even near the worth To cause the least bit of pain To the one who holds my heart on earth Twenty-four years ago I committed All that I was and ever would be to you And on our anniversary That same sentiment still rings true. I have no greater role than to be The best husband to you; my lovely wife Diane, I am forever grateful to God For placing you into my life. To celebrate our love There is no need for a red carpet, Or for our names to be written in the sky. It just took our hearts smiling together In a sweet embrace, just you and I. And, just in case you’re thinking There is anything I’ve forgotten to say I love you; thank you for putting up with me; And also, Happy Birthday Yours, Doug

Thanks

Note of

On behalf of the family, we want to thank you for your support. Your thoughtfulness means so much during this difficult time. When it seemed our loss was too great to bear, our family and friends were there for us to lean on. My dear wife valued her relationship with each and everyone of you. Because of you her heart was filled with Joy. Each prayer, call, text, and expression of condolence is deeply appreciated and will always be cherished and remembered. ~Doug Tarver and Family
