T

o the Disciples of St. Paul Baptist Church.

I greet you with the love, joy, and peace of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. What a blessed delight to become the Senior Pastor at the St. Paul Baptist Church in Charlotte, North Carolina. I am excited and intrigued with the promise, potential, power, and possibilities we have at St. Paul. I do not come to this moment alone. Lady Pier and our daughter, Charis, are on a wonderful journey with me as we integrate our lives into the fabric of St. Paul’s history and culture. Since 1900, God has allowed this congregation to minister to thousands of men and women in the Greater Charlotte/Mecklenburg area with the preaching, teaching, and healing of God through Jesus Christ by the power and presence of the Holy Spirit. A rich, vibrant legacy of worship and praise, social activism, community collaboration, and economic empowerment have been the traits of my four pastoral predecessors: Reverend P. M. Mayfield, Reverend Dr. James Wertz, Reverend Dr. Paul Drummond, and Reverend Dr. Gregory K. Moss, Sr. I stand on the broad shoulders of these men who have provided

a great track record of sterling leadership, pastoral prowess, and preaching gifts which has gotten us to where we are at this moment in history. Their servant leadership coupled with great cooperation from the congregation has allowed this church to be a beacon of transformation, liberation, and redemption. I am so honored and humbled to have been chosen to run this portion of our church history’s race, for such a time as this. As the investiture to the office of Senior Pastor is bestowed upon me, I look forward to serving St. Paul and working with our disciples as we CONNECT people to God through Christ; LIFT our church, community, city and country through our work for the kingdom; and INSPIRE people through worship, evangelism, discipleship, service, and fellowship to become the disciples God desires for us to be. St. Paul, I give God thanks for you. I love you dearly and I look forward to many years of doing kingdom work together. May God bless you and keep you in God’s omnipotent grace and care.

bring you greetings on behalf of the Associate Ministers at St. Paul Baptist Church, and as the Executive Pastor.

We are blessed today to share in the occasion, The Investiture of The Reverend Dr. Robert C. Scott. Dr. Scott is just one man with only one life to live, but because of God’s love he has chosen to open his huge heart and live that life as our shepherd; as both a servant and a leader. We are well aware that his sacrifices and hard labor are not in vain. Dr. Scott helped us already to be better ministers and people. We deeply appreciate all that he is doing and has done for us in the few short months he has been here. We join our words with those of the Apostle Paul and say, “Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

elcome to all who have joined us on this joyous occasion to celebrate the Installation of Reverend Dr. Robert Charles Scott as Senior Pastor of St. Paul Baptist Church. reetings to you in the powerful name of our Savior, Jesus the Christ.

Mere words cannot adequately express the excitement and joy of your call and acceptance to serve with a great people, St. Paul. It was my burden and privilege to walk with St. Paul for seventeen years, following Dr. Paul W. Drummond. Upon assuming the reins, I informed the people it was my task to simply build upon the bridge started by Reverend P. M. Mayfield; continued by Reverend J. F. Wertz; and continued by Dr. Drummond. It is now my brother, your season to extend this magnificent bridge, providing a path for this community to extend its mission and ministry around the globe. Without question, you are prepared for the journey. You’ve been tried and tested. You have come forth armed with energy and leadership to raise St. Paul to levels of ministry yet unseen. Robert, always remember the source of your strength. Unlike Sampson, who initially was blinded to his, you know without doubt it is the Ruah-spirit of God that guides you. Embrace it with all your might. You are not measured by success, rather by your faithfulness. I pray peace for Pier and Charis and rest assured the wonderful people of St. Paul will shower all of you with love and affection. Congratulations and know I stand solidly beside you in this continual journey now and always. I am glad to call you brother, privileged to call you friend, and proud to call you pastor. With honor and respect, Gregory K. Moss, Sr. Pastor Emeritus

F

or over 34 years, Claude Alexander has sought to serve God and community. Having accepted the call to ministry at the age of 17, he endeavored to prepare himself by obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from Morehouse College (1985), a Master of Divinity Degree from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary (1988), and a Doctor of Ministry Degree from GordonConwell Theological Seminary (2004). Having pastored Morning Star Baptist Church in West Mifflin, PA from 1987-1990, he accepted the call to pastor University Park Baptist Church in May of 1990. Under his leadership, The Park Church has grown from one local congregation of 600 members to a global ministry of thousands with three locations and weekly international reach. Upon his arrival at The Park, his initial focus was to help the congregation move outward with an emphasis on mission and outreach within the local community. He extended the reach of Christ through the church with programs such as global missions, counseling services, and holistic ministry to youth. He was one of the founding pastors of HELP (Helping Empower Local People), which worked with congregations to increase justice and access for all people. By 1997, the congregation had tripled in size and in 2001, Bishop Alexander led the church to their new location on Beatties Ford Road. This facility became the birthing place of expanded ministries, including a recording studio, which produced the acclaimed Kingdom Voices choir recording in 2006: “One Thing I Desire.” Upon hearing God’s heart for the community, Bishop Alexander led a seed group to consider another worship experience in South

Charlotte. After hosting services in the South Mecklenburg High School auditorium for little over a year, a new worship site was purchased and dedicated on August 22, 2004. This 46-acre facility allowed The Park Church to make impact within the city of Pineville, North Carolina and into South Carolina as well. In 2006, Bishop Alexander heard God’s call to greater expansion in East Charlotte and Center City. Driven by his vision, The Park Church purchased the Charlotte Merchandise Mart, making it one of the few churches in the nation to fuse enterprise and ministry models. With the addition of The Park Expo and Conference Center (formerly the Charlotte Merchandise Mart), The Park Church could offer a multi-faceted destination that included live-streamed and simulcast worship services as well as ample space for conferences, banquets, and exhibition space for trade shows. This facility represents the fruit of the “Faith Forward in Action” movement with plans to be a hub for leadership development, missionary training, and much more to come. A leader among both Christian and civic organizations, Bishop Alexander has worked with government and community officials to address the community’s most critical issues. Over the years, he has served as a board member of the Urban League of Central Carolinas, United Way, the Arts and Science Council, the N.A.A.C.P. Educational Committee, the Harvey B. Gantt Center for AfricanAmerican Arts and Culture, and The Community Building Initiative. In addition, Bishop Alexander is the immediate past president of the Hampton University Ministers Conference. He currently serves on the board of the Charlotte Center City Partners, Christianity Today, Wycliffe Bible Translators, Mission America Coalition

Facilitation Committee, and as Vice-Chair of GordonConwell Theological Seminary Board of Trustees, CoChair of Gordon-Conwell Charlotte Board of Advisors, and Vice-Presiding Bishop of the Kingdom Association of Covenant Pastors.. In 2013, Bishop Alexander extended his many roles to include that of author. He published his first book, Necessary Christianity, through which he examines the ‘must’ statements of and about Jesus Christ within the Gospels. Written during a three month sabbatical, he strives to challenge notions of personal preference and entitlement in our lives with Christ. Bishop Alexander is committed to his family above all else. He is married to Dr. Kimberly Nash Alexander and is the proud father of two daughters, Camryn Rene and Carsyn Richelle.

r. Carl J. Solomon is the second of three sons born to Merion and Charlotte Solomon, who sought to instill in him a belief in God at a very early age. He was personally introduced to Jesus Christ and accepted the Lord as his personal Savior through the witness of John Lewis. Afterward he was discipled in the Christian faith by his pastor Bishop Walter Thomas Sr. Reverend Solomon served as an associate minister and as an Assistant to the Pastor at the New Psalmist Baptist Church for a number of years, until the United Baptist Church elected him and extended the call to him to serve as their pastor in 1991. Reverend Solomon accepted the call and has served the church since. Under his pastoral leadership, the church has experienced growth and development in a variety of areas and continues to do so. Dr. Solomon has been invited to preach and teach the Word of God across the country and abroad, to include: Alaska, Zimbabwe Africa, Sao Paulo Brazil, and Nassau Bahamas. Now that they have come together in this Divine assignment of worship, Word, work and witness, certainly with Dr. Scott’s leadership it is bound to be an endeavor that is exciting, that will be in excellence, and that will further expand the Kingdom. With all that said: Everyone should also prepare for, if they are not already familiar with it, that one of a kind laugh of his and the good time the St Paul church will have on into her next chapter. r. Robert Charles Scott is one of my best friends here on earth! He and I pastored neighboring churches in St Louis, Missouri; and our relationship as friends, brothers and peers has continued to grow and evolve over more than 17 years. I was blessed to be the Best Man in the wedding when he married the love of his life, Pier; and my wife Gelaine and I are further blessed to be the Godparents of their lovely daughter Charis. I have no doubt that my life has been enriched greatly by knowing Robert Scott, and I am glad that God sent him to me as a brother! Dr. Jesse T. . t has been my joy to know Dr. Robert Charles Scott for at least the last twenty years. I met him when he was a young pastor in Lexington, North Carolina. He along with Ricky Woods and Sir Walter Lee Mack, Jr. would come to hear me in revival at the University Park Baptist Church in Charlotte. When as a threesome they would come into the sanctuary, I would refer to them as the “Sanhedrin Council.”

I

Over the years we have developed a very close relationship and he, at once, flatters and humbles me in his reference to me as his “spiritual father.” In reality, I think, Dr. Scott has made more rich deposits in my life than I have made in his. Greetings from Lady Pier & Charis

W

hat a blessed occasion and a wonderful union for pastor, (his family) and people to labor together in building God’s Kingdom! Thank you St. Paul for showering us with your warm, gracious and generous spirit. We are humbled by and grateful for the presence of so many family members and friends who have traveled great distances to share in this celebration! As your First Family, we reflect on God’s providence: how He has kept us thus far and firmly planted us in Charlotte. And as we install Our Pastor today, we who have been grafted in are taking root in anticipation of nourishing one another, flourishing together and reaping a harvest for The Lord. We pray you are blessed by the words and charges delivered by the dynamic and anointed Men of God who bring The Good News today. They each significantly influence, support and pray for our pastor and lift you up as well. St. Paul, we hope you will leave these Pastoral Installation services encouraged, strengthened and ready to roll up your sleeves – for there is much to be done. Charis and I are so delighted to be on this journey with you. The celebration continues: Please join the St. Paul Women of Worth Ministry for the First Lady’s Women’s Day Tea at 11:00 am, Saturday, May 20, 2017, in the Ray of Hope, here at St. Paul Baptist Church. We pray God’s blessings as we continue to Do Life Together! With the love of Christ,

Psalm 100:4-5 reminds us to… “Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. 5 For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.” (KJV) 4

Dr. Scott, Lady Pier, and Miss Charis wish to use this page in this publication to share their heartfelt thanks to all who helped to make this celebration a meaningful experience. These listed names not only represent your individual efforts but they are also a symbolic representation of those who sat in the background in support of their efforts, be it your spouses, children, extended family, friends, fellow St. Paul Disciples and significant others. Please know that the absence of a name on this is not indicative of a lack of awareness and/or appreciation of ALL who played a part. The Scotts look forward to thanking each and every one of you in person, but until then, know that they love you, they appreciate you, and they look forward to the work that God has ordained all of us to accomplish located at this small branch of Zion called St. Paul Baptist Church.
