Thomas Gresham Committee
Paul’s Art Association

I am continually impressed by the remarkable engagement shown by our community with the school’s events programme, and I know this new school year will be no different. As always, our goal is to foster a sense of connection with as many of you as possible, ensuring everyone – from parents and alumni to staff and friends of St Paul’s – feels a part of our school. I’m also thrilled that I’ll be heading to the US this Autumn Term and look forward to meeting with many of our US community.

I hope you are all able to find something within these pages that sparks your interest and I look forward to seeing you at one of the events this term.

The Autumn Term is about welcoming back the St Paul’s community for a new school year and introducing our families who are joining us for the first time to the many and varied school events. This year, we are particularly excited to host our first Introduction to St Paul’s Bursary Programme events, and our second year of House Social events, and our new OP University events, amongst many other old favourites. Under the leadership of Rachael Kirkham, our Engagement and Events team has curated a diverse programme, designed to appeal to both curious observers and passionate enthusiasts across a range of subjects. We welcome your feedback and any suggestions for future events, which you can give by contacting the team via community@stpaulsschool.org.uk

Topical Tuesdays: Milton – a typical Pauline?

Tuesday 5 November

This Topical Tuesdays talk comes ahead of the 350th anniversary of Old Pauline and poet John Milton’s death on 8 November.

Hosted by St Paul’s Head of English Faculty, Mr Matt Gardner, who will be studying Paradise Lost with his pupils in Autumn Term, John Venning will offer a consideration of some of the assumptions around Milton’s reputation.

John Venning was Head of English at St Paul’s from 1989–2014. The Milton Building was so named at his suggestion. He fought any attempt to remove Milton from the list of A Level set books (particularly when that suggestion came from the Head of English at Westminster). He is NOT a Milton specialist.
