THE CHAPEL

When the Epiphany Procession in the Minster falls on the first Sunday of term, as it did this time, it gives us a wonderful start to the new year. The term ended, too, with an impressive service on Palm Sunday, when the Dean of York preached a memorable sermon on Our Lord's Word from the Cross : "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do."

The Head Master preached on the second Sunday of term and during Lent the Chaplain preached a course of sermons on "The Armour of God". On Quinquagesima Sunday we had our termly Sung Communion and on Ash Wednesday there was a short Evening Service at which the Head Master gave the address.

As in other years Compline was said on the Friday evenings in Lent for those who wished to attend. This year for the first time all the services except the first one were taken by monitors.

On Tuesday, 14th March, the Archbishop of York paid his last visit to the School before his translation to Canterbury, and confirmed 61 boys. There was a large congregation of parents and other boys who wished to attend.

This day happened • also to be the day of publication of the New English Bible. To mark this event, the Head Master read the Second Lesson at Evensong on the following Sunday from the new translation. N.K-W.
