Thiis morning, in our last Learning Superhero and Value Champion assembly of the term, I asked the children to reflect on the many highlights and memorable moments from the term and what a lot there have been! The experiences and memories that children make at school are so important and long lasting, and it’s our aim that through these experiences we instil in the children a positive view of learning based on their innate curiosity to explore and understand the world. Last week I attended the IAPS Early Years and Pre-Prep Conference and had the opportunity to listen to some experts in the field of early education. One of these specialists, Professor Carla Rinaldi (a world leader in early education and president of Reggio Education), spoke about reimagining childhood from the view of children being weak and having needs to a view of children being highly competent and capable, possessing innate curiosity and motivation to construct their own knowledge of the world. This approach requires high levels of trust, safety and reciprocity between the teacher

and the learners. Loris Malaguzzi, the founder of the Reggio approach, wrote ‘It is the image of the child who, from the moment of birth, is so engaged in developing a relationship with the world, and intent on experiencing the world that he or she develops a complex system of abilities, learning strategies and ways of organising relationships.’ It’s so important that learning is not something that is ‘done’ to children but something that we do together, valuing their voices and their passions and strengths.

The class assemblies that have taken place over the last two weeks have shown that children at 2-8 are authors, scientists, mathematicians, engineers, innovators, historians, geographers, performers, artists, composers, poets and more, but most importantly are creative thinkers, problem solvers and collaborators. I was incredibly proud of all of the children who shared their learning from the term and teaching me plenty of new facts. Many thanks to the staff for preparing the children and to our families for coming along to support the children.

On Wednesday, the children came to

school full of excitement and anticipation for our Easter Activity Day. They had a day filled with crafts and Easter fun topped off by the disco. Many thanks to FOSP especially Mrs Woolf, Mrs Dolan-Bent and Mr Lawrence for organising the disco and the cafe. The enthusiastic dancing and beaming smiles said it all!

You may have seen on the St Peter’s Instagram account that the whole school from 2-18 took part in Yorkshire Children's Charity Easter Egg campaign. On Wednesday we were able to deliver over 500 Easter eggs to Grange Farm Primary School in Seacroft, Leeds. The party donations to the Leeds African and Caribbean Society’s Easter Party were also gratefully received. Finally, a heartfelt thank you to the staff in all departments from across the school, both support staff and teaching staff, who work so hard to provide an incredible school to enable your children to learn and flourish.

I hope that you all have a very happy Easter break, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday 15th April.

music

Wow, what a fabulous musical end to another busy term! It was the turn of 2P and 2H to present their assemblies this week, they performed two songs from the Wind in the Willows musical and their Ratty compositions to parents as well as sharing all their amazing learning. The children were able to play their own compositions with such confidence, they have really enjoyed being composers this term, exploring how to describe a character through music, just like Prokofiev did in Peter and the Wolf.

3J had the opportunity to perform with their parents on Wednesday. They showed their families how to play Strauss' Blue Danube on the boomwhackers which was great fun. 3J really impressed me with their concentration during their djembe demonstration, they played really well as an ensemble, watching carefully to help keep in time with their friends.

RMP started the Reception classes off on Wednesday with great singing and fabulous bird facts! They did so well performing to their grown-ups, quite a daunting thing to do when you're only 4 or 5! RC and RA rounded off the assemblies perfectly on Thursday with confident singing and great actions, it's lovely to see how much they have grown in confidence since their performances at Christmas, fabulous work Reception!
