Celebrating our Legacy Embracing our Future
Ask any St. Pius X student what the Four Pillars of Dominican Education are and how they practice them, you will find they have ready answers for prayer, study, community and preaching. At the foundation of our mission are all four of these pillars. We begin and end each school day with prayer, celebrate feasts and solemnities of the Saints, go on retreat, and gather together monthly as an entire school faith community to celebrate the liturgy of the Eucharist. One assumes high school students study, expanding their breadth of knowledge and learning how to think for themselves; and in the myriad of campus activities, ministries, teams, clubs, and lunch table comradery, our students build and experience community at its best. But what of preaching?
The first three pillars enable the pillar of preaching. This past fall semester the pillar of preaching was, once again at the forefront of the SPX experience. The Dominican charism of preaching embraces more than words from the pulpit. Dominicans use their God-given gifts and talents for the good of the community as preaching is birthed in varied ways. Students who serve as members of our Dominican High School Preaching Team can often be heard sharing this phrase; “Where do Dominicans preach?” –“Where don’t they!”

Within this issue of Pius News are stories that capture the voices, narratives and the “preaching” that defined the Fall semester of the 2022-23 school year. You will read about the return of our Grandparent’s Day event, where we welcomed hundreds of students’ grandparents to campus for a special morning. You will read a student-written reflection on the annual 9th grade retreat, in which our newest Panthers experienced class bonding and spiritual growth. You will also see the fruits of our superb fine arts, athletics, and academic programs in the form of College Board recognitions, athletic scholarships, and wonderful Veritas Theatre productions.
Our community has accomplished tremendous things! There is so much to be proud of and so much to look forward to as we usher in another semester. It is through the outpouring of heartfelt, collaborative support that we continue to provide the unique and exceptional Veritas education for our young men and women. I am confident that the future holds great things for our school, our students, our alumni, and each of you – our St. Pius X High School family!
With gratitude and in prayer,
Sr. Donna M. Pollard, O.P. Interim Head of School
