Survey Methodology • StrategyOne conducted 1,050 online interviews among a representative sampling of Americans between June 25 and 27, 2010. • The overall margin of sampling error at the 95% level of confidence is = +/- 3.02% overall and larger for subgroups. • Statistical weights were designed from the United States Census Bureau statistics.

Key Insights & Conclusions •

More than half of Americans have put off their plans for a summer vacation. And many of those who do plan to take vacation, will likely spend less money than last year. •
28% of Americans plan to take a summer vacation this year, while more than half, 56%, have already ruled out taking a summer vacation. 16% say they have not decided whether they will take a summer vacation this year.
•
Nearly half of those planning on taking a summer vacation (48%) say they are spending less than they did on their last vacation.
The vast majority of those who are taking a summer vacation plan to stay within the US (76%), compared with 13% who will travel internationally. •
12% plan to have summer vacations that include both domestic and international travel.
• Rising fuel prices is certainly affecting travel plans this summer—72% say they are concerned about gas prices this summer as it relates to their family vacation.
