Our Academic Programme SSTH offers two globally benchmarked degree programmes: Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BHM) and Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management (BTM). These programmes are designed to provide you with the requisite knowledge and skills to become a professional of industry’s global standards in service, operations, management, and research and technology, founded on firm academic, moral and professional ethics. Our core business is to develop hospitality and tourism management leaders through sound theoretical coursework, innovative learning activities and mentoring opportunities so as to expose you to premier hospitality organisations and interaction with dynamic industry professionals. The Hospitality Management Programme goes beyond the confines of kitchen and dining room by exposing you to an environment oriented to both business and hotel industry operations and management. You will develop not only production and operations management skills, but also business management skills and the necessary soft skills (i.e. emotional and professional maturity, integrity, personal responsibility and ability to work in a team). The Tourism Management Programme equips you with the knowledge, skills and attitude needed to

transform the challenges of the 21st century into business opportunities and socially responsible enterprises in the field of travel and tourism. You will be exposed to various tourism, travel and destination concepts, planning, operation and development.
Our Curriculum
You will go through compulsory humanity units that include philosophy, ethics, communication skills and foreign languages every semester, which enable you to attain a holistic development. In addition to the core subjects of specialisation, you will also do common units shared by both hospitality and tourism programmes such as management subjects, accounting, marketing, business management and entrepreneurship, statistics and research methods. Education Financing To help you manage your education financing, Strathmore has partnered with Commercial Bank of Africa and the World Bank’s International Finance Corporation to offer low-interest loans to students pursuing degrees and diplomas at the University. Students can also get loans from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).

Entry
In order to qualify for our fulltime degree programme either in BHM or BTM: • You must have a minimum mean grade of C+ in KCSE with C in Mathematics and English and a minimum of C in any two of the following subjects: Geography, Biology, Chemistry or Home Science. • If you are a KACE graduate, you should have a minimum of two principal passes and one subsidiary pass and KCE credit passes in Mathematics and English and in one of the following subjects: Geography, Biology, Chemistry or Home Science.
Exemptions: 2-Year BHM and BTM Programme If you are already working in the industry and are a holder of a professional diploma in hospitality or tourism from an accredited institution, you may be exempted for a maximum of 50% of the units offered in the evening course degree programme. This programme enables you to bridge the diploma to a degree within a period of two years. Classes run in the evening from 5.30pm to 8.30pm

Monday to Friday, and Saturdays from 8.30am to 2.30pm for three semesters per year (January-April, May-August, and September-December).
Careers
As a BHM graduate, you will be better equipped than most graduates to work for hotels as well as for various service organisations such as resorts, healthcare institutions, airlines and schools, in a supervisory and managerial level. You will be able to plan for and manage food and beverage operations, hotel accommodation, front office operations, events and conventions as well as customer relations. You can also venture into business start-ups of your own restaurant or lodging house. As a BTM graduate, you can secure jobs in leading travel operations, tour companies, airlines, and in tourism marketing organisations, or you can operate and manage your own tour and travel company.
Our Industry-Academic Partnership In nurturing our graduates with substantial human and professional qualities, SSTH works closely with key players in the hospitality and tourism industry.This collaboration and partnership with the industry will equip our graduates with the relevant professional and entrepreneurial skills as well as innovative handson training. Our BHM and BTM programmes incorporate internship training for three months in top hotels, resorts, and travel and tour organisations in your second year and third year of study. This internship gives you the chance to apply the tools you learn in the classroom to the actual hospitality and tourism setting where you get the unique opportunity to develop your knowledge, skills and talents as you work closely and under the supervision of professionals in the field.
