Chamber of Commerce Dear Chamber Members and Goshen Community: The mission of the Goshen Chamber is to champion the community’s business future. We are dedicated to developing a community where businesses grow and citizens enjoy an attractive and vibrant place to live, raise a family, work and retire. The Goshen Chamber of Commerce is composed of leading business persons and professionals from almost 530 Goshen area businesses. These people are earnestly engaged in promoting activities that enhance the civic, commercial and industrial welfare of the City of Goshen and Elkhart County. The Goshen Chamber of Commerce will continue its efforts to market Goshen with our partners from the City of Goshen, Goshen Community Schools, and Goshen College. The Good of Goshen campaign is promoting Goshen as a great place to live, work, start a business and have your children educated from kindergarten through college. Those utilizing the brand include the City of Goshen, IU Goshen Health, Goshen College, Greencroft Goshen, Goshen Community Schools, and the Downtown Economic Improvement District. One of the major areas we will be looking to implement the new brand is at the entry ways into our community. With the support of forty chamber members and organizations, the Chamber opened LaunchPad Goshen in 2013. LaunchPad provides over three-thousand square feet of finished space for business ideas to grow and launch new business enterprises in our community. In addition to space, start-up businesses have access to business counseling services and mentors. The Chamber Board of Directors have also targeted four other areas for concentration: (1) Work to grow our economic base through our Greater Goshen Association, our partnership with the City of Goshen and the Economic Development Corporation of Elkhart County; (2) Work with our local elected officials and their staff at all levels of government to ensure that legislation and regulations promote economic vitality for Goshen area businesses; (3) Work with our schools to identify ways the business community can assist the district in reaching their goals and meeting the needs of our students; and (4) Work with our existing members to make sure they are taking full advantage of their membership and invite non-members to take advantage of Chamber membership. I would like to thank the members of the Chamber that supported this directory by purchasing advertising space. THE GOSHEN CHAMBER IS From The President

The Goshen Chamber was founded 60 years ago by community business leaders in an effort to strengthen and build an environment where businesses could grow and prosper. As residents in the community, they also realized that the community had to offer a good quality of life. Today, the Goshen Chamber has almost 530 members. These business leaders maintain a firm commitment to the principles of the founders. No place better reflects this commitment than the Chamber’s mission statement, which reads, “The mission of the Goshen Chamber is to champion our community’s business future.” The organization goes on to identify four basic principles which guide its activities. First, the Chamber will accomplish the mission statement by coordinating our diverse interest. While many people consider the Chamber’s membership to be of one voice, we are as diverse as our community. Second, we believe guided economic development and a high quality of life are interdependent. Most chamber members live in the community. Like most people, we want to be proud of where we live. Third, we are committed to continually improving the businesses and community. Finally, as the premier business organization in the Goshen area with almost 530 members who employ nearly 18,000 people, we are the voice of the business community. The members listed in this directory have made a significant statement to the community by being members of the Chamber. They have stated that they believe in the community and its future and that they want to work together to make Goshen better than it is today. randing/Marketing Initiative In 2011, the Goshen Chamber hired a firm to create a marketing initiative to help market our community for the purposes of economic, tourism, and workforce development. After more than a year of research, focus groups, interviews with key stakeholders and competitors, a brand narrative was presented and approved. The brand narrative is the basis for the creative work. In short, the narrative reads: “Everything comes together in Goshen — or, more precisely, everybody. There’s a special spirit that has always been here, and it’s wonderfully contagious. What we share in common is the community ideal. Together, we’ve worked to make Goshen a place where business is good, manufacturing thrives, downtown bustles, artists create, entrepreneurs reach global markets, families find a friendly environment, good things take root, and people pitch in to make it all better. It’s altogether different because we’re in it all together. Some say Goshen is the way America used to be. We say it’s the way to an uncommonly great future.“ In March of 2012, the company presented their final report to community leaders. The logo designed to convey the narrative is individual letters joined together and reflecting our craftsmanship heritage and how we come together for the common good of our community. Because we work together to build a strong community, we accomplish some uncommonly great things. From this comes the tagline, “Common Good. Uncommonly Great.” The Chamber has adopted a new logo reflecting the brand. The City is also using the brand logo, along with the City nickname of the Maple City. Others who are helping to promote the brand include: Goshen College, IU Health Goshen, Greencroft Goshen, Goshen Community Schools, and downtown Goshen. LAUNCHING ENTREPRENEURS in Goshen

Goshen is Launching Entrepreneurs The Goshen Chamber of Commerce is transforming the space above its first floor offices to create “LaunchPad”, a business incubation facility aimed at providing early stage companies and local entrepreneurs with state-of-the-art workspace and access to key development and growth services. The approximately 3,000 square foot space fronts Main Street and will feature open work spaces, lots of natural light, portable and lockable filing cabinets, white board walls for creative collaboration, large wall areas for video projection, high-speed fiber optic wireless internet access, a common area soft seating space, as well as teaming tables for meetings. The space will accommodate up to 20 people and tenants will have 24/7 access to the space. The mission of LaunchPad is to be a place where businesses get their start and then launch out into other community spaces as they grow and become successful and need more space. Small Business Counselors will be available to help guide a tenant from concept to “launching” out into the community. Tenants can use the “Pitch Corner” to display/promote/pitch their ideas to potential clients/vendors/investors. ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

In 1958, Charles Ainlay gave a keynote speech noting that, “… if the Goshen Community is to continue to prosper in the future, growth must be planned and guided.” With that in mind, Chamber leaders organized Greater Goshen Association and raised the funds to create Goshen Industrial Park. Today, Goshen Industrial Park is home to almost thirty-five firms employing more than 3,000 people. The Mission of Greater Goshen Association is to encourage and promote the growth and development of the City of Goshen by retaining the industry which the area enjoys, and to attract and invite new industry to the area which will provide greater employment opportunities. From the beginning, Greater Goshen and the City of Goshen have been strong partners in strengthening our industrial base. Greater Goshen identified the need for a new industrial park a few years ago and began discussing the prospects of establishing a new industrial park. The first goal was to have a local developer take on this task. A local developer took up the challenge and began plans for a new industrial park. The Chamber, City of Goshen, and the Economic Development Corporation of Elkhart County worked together with developers at Hoogenboom Nofziger to secure “Shovel Ready” certification of their new 200-acre industrial park on Goshen’s south side. Certification was received for Waterford Commons Business Park in the fall of 2013. The Greater Goshen Action Plan has four key areas of focus, they are: (1) Identify and promote the positives for business development in the Greater Goshen area; (2) Research best practices that encourage and support Goshen’s 12

economic development efforts; (3) Identify factors that discourage business investment and growth and take corrective action; and (4) Where appropriate, assist with regional economic development issues. The Chamber has been involved in a number of community development activities during this decade. The Downtown Action Agenda was written in 2005, resulting in the creation of Downtown Goshen, Inc. The River Race Restoration, which resulted in the clean-up of land on Lincoln Avenue by the Elkhart River where several new buildings have been built in recent years. The Chamber’s River Race Committee, working with the City’s Redevelopment Commission, brought in Ball State to create a plan for the Race area from Plymouth to Pike. This plan was completed in mid-September 2005. In 2013 agreements have been reached with a developer for the construction of some condominiums along the Mill Race. LaCasa will be rehabilitating an old industrial building for an Artist & Entrepreneurs Live Work Center. Other plans could include some single family homes, a brew pub, and more. Next year will begin a new future for a very unique area of Goshen. Greater Goshen Association, in cooperation with the City of Goshen, continues evaluating the needs of the community and works to insure that Goshen continues to reach for the stars. In the Goshen Area

Elkhart County and Goshen is The Center of It All! for tourism in Northern Indiana. Whether it is visitors to the historic downtown and the quaint shops lining Main Street, to the Old Bag Factory or the Elkhart County 4-H Fair, there are many reasons why tourism is BIG business in Goshen. The Goshen Chamber welcomes thousands of visitors to its website and offices every year. It produces a tourism brochure that is distributed at rest stops, restaurants and hotels along the toll road and at various locations throughout Indiana. The Chamber has a resource center to display regional tourism information in its lobby visitor’s center. The Goshen Chamber works closely with the Elkhart County Convention and Visitors Bureau. The Goshen Chamber initiated the RV’ers Rally Savings Card that is given to RV groups utilizing the Elkhart County Fair Grounds. Chamber member businesses sign up to participate in the RV’ers Rally Savings Card by offering discounts or other special incentives. Several thousand people utilize the campgrounds at the fair grounds each year, pumping millions of dollars into the local economy each year. The Goshen Chamber of Commerce website includes a community events calendar. The Goshen Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the North Central ISBDC is pleased to offer counseling services to the Goshen community. These services include face-toface counseling, training, and improved access to resources to help start-up and existing small businesses. Alan D. The Chamber works with our elected officials and public employees at all levels of government to ensure that these issues are addressed in a manner that meets the needs of all parties concerned. The Chamber’s Public Policy Committee constantly reviews legislative issues and develops position papers that they share with our elected representatives on issues vital to the business community. These position papers are posted on the Chamber’s website on our Legislative Action Center. From this link on the Chamber’s website, members can write their elected representatives and encourage them to support the Chamber’s position.

Each year while the Indiana General Assembly is in session the Goshen Chamber hosts the Third House Sessions at the Chamber offices. These Saturday morning community forums bring area State Legislators together to discuss the issues behind the bills they are hearing in Indianapolis. These forums are open to the public and more than fifty people attended each session this year. The Public Policy Committee also hosts candidate forums during the course of the election year. The Chamber feels strongly that the public must be informed about the issues facing the community and where the candidates stand on these issues. The Chamber also hosts regular meetings with members of our U.S. Congressional delegation.

Representatives of the Chamber attend Goshen City Council, Planning Commission, and Board of Zoning Appeals meetings. At these meetings the Chamber may present position papers and address issues coming before these bodies. Representatives from the Chamber also go to Indianapolis to represent the business

BEAUTIFY GOSHEN 2015 The Goshen Chamber was a leader in the push for passage of the Neighborhood Preservation Code back in 2001. In an effort to not only talk about the need to improve the appearance of the community, the Chamber formed the Beautify Goshen Committee and charged it with creating a plan of action to assist in meeting the goals of the newly adopted ordinance. The mission of â&#x20AC;&#x153;Beautify Goshenâ&#x20AC;? is to organize and promote community pride in the appearance of property as we work together to improve the quality of life in Goshen. One of the first things to come from this new Chamber committee was the formation of the Beautification and Restoration Public Purpose Trust. This non-profit organization was started with the expressed purpose of providing financial support to individuals and groups for making improvements to existing structures and for

acquiring properties for redevelopment. Craig Yahne serves as chair of The Fund and can be reached at (574) 533-3380. This organization is funded through tax deductible contributions. The committee organizes and coordinates the annual project, Beautify Goshen! During this week-long event, the community is encouraged to get involved with improving the appearance of their property, plus hundreds of volunteers work on special projects throughout the city. Beautify Goshen week ends with the

annual Help-A-House project sponsored by LaCasa. The committee recognizes the efforts of individuals and businesses that take pride in their property and present a Beautification Award to the most improved property. Individuals and groups also join in the AdoptA-Spot program to help make sure that certain visible areas in the community are maintained on a regular basis. In a survey of Chamber members, 80% said that the appearance of the community has improved as a result of the Neighborhood Preservation Ordinance and the efforts of the Chamber, the City of Goshen, and other groups. OF THE ECONOMY A Monthly Look at the Economy Around the World and Around Goshen What’s the best way to stay informed about the movement in the local and the global economy? Attend the Chamber’s Sound of the Economy program. Presented for one day each month, the program offers a baseline global economic forecast of information from a variety of sources. Each month, members attend the sessions of Sound of the Economy to hear the latest forecast! After listening to the national forecast, the attendees give informal reports about their business or offer their opinion about the forecast, thus giving a local perspective of the economy. Sound of the Economy has been held at the Goshen Chamber of Commerce since April 2001 but has been presented in the Goshen community for over 40 years. Former retailer and banker Larry McAdam began inviting downtown merchants and business leaders to the

boardroom of the First National Bank in 1971 to hear the economic forecast and to discuss the forecast’s implications for Goshen business. The program started with 10 people and former Goshen College economics professor, Karl Kreider, hardware owner Bill Mays and investment advisor Frank Martin who all served as discussion leaders. Currently, the program is an audio presentation prepared by Vince Turner from MutualBank, from a script of information compiled about the national/global economy. Then Mr. Turner facilitates the discussion in the roundtable format. This special program is made possible by the generous contributions of over 50 Chamber members.

The Goshen Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors recognizes a direct link between educating our community’s young people and developing a workforce ready with 21st Century skills for tomorrow’s jobs in Goshen. With the help of many Chamber members and their businesses throughout Goshen, the Chamber Education Committee is there to support Goshen Community Schools in this effort. The Education Committee has identified four major areas of emphasis for the group’s work. These four areas of work are designed to be a support to Goshen Community Schools. The Chamber’s Education Committee has four sub committees to work on these areas of emphasis which include: Early Childhood and PreKindergarten Learning; the ICE/Cooperative Education Program; Marketing; and Business Education. Business and industry leaders from the Goshen Chamber of Commerce have come together to support Goshen Community Schools in training our future workforce and develop tomorrow’s leaders. The Goshen High School has the International Baccalaureate Diploma program. The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program is a demanding, two-year program of curriculum and service that meets the needs of highly motivated secondary students. The Diploma Program offers a comprehensive and integrated approach to learning that prepares students for rigorous assessments in

six subject areas during grades 11 and 12. Students must also complete a minimum of 150 hours in Creativity, Action, and Service activities, a 4,000word essay of original research, and a Theory of Knowledge course. The International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) awards its diploma to students who perform successfully on the six external examinations and fulfill all other requirements of the program at an authorized IB world school. It is recognized as the highest diploma currently offered by any high school in the world. It’s clear: To attract and retain businesses in Goshen, the community needs to have well-trained highly skilled workers for the jobs of the future. The Goshen Chamber of Commerce, with Goshen Community Schools, is leading the way to Champion our Commun-ity’s Business Future. The committee has supported and encouraged business people to volunteer for reading programs in Goshen elementary schools. A panel of business leaders has met with Goshen high school students to discuss what employers look for in employees. The committee is creating a speakers bureau directory of business people that will be available to classroom teachers. The committee is also working with the Goshen Community Schools to better tell the uncommonly great story of our School District. Each new school year we welcome new teachers to Goshen and share the great story of our community and express our pride and thanks to those entrusted with our future.

HR NETWORK Human Resource Professionals Sharing Best Practices

The Goshen Human Resources Network (GHRN) exists to help those individuals with HR responsibilities at Goshen area businesses. This could range from the business owner to an HR staff person. Members of the GHRN will be able to stay current on compliance and legal issues through networking and educational programs. Members also build a local network with others with similar responsibilities. The Goshen HR Network meets the first Thursday of each month at noon at the Goshen Chamber of Commerce; meetings last one hour unless otherwise agreed to and there is a $10 lunch charge. There is typically no meeting in July. Members are emailed notices about the meetings at least one week prior.

Members of the GHRN must have professional or business responsibility in human resources management or administration. Their employer must be a member of the Goshen Chamber of Commerce. Applications for membership will be reviewed by the Leadership Team. An applicant (or member) may be denied membership in the Network if they present a conflict of interest to the Networkâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s purpose. GHRN annually offers special workshops for members, as well as those with supervisory responsibility. Members get into the “Swing”

Annually, Chamber members participate in golf and tennis events as a way to network with one another and support the Chamber financially. In August, the Chamber rolls out the red carpet for its members for the Annual Golf and Tennis Outing. Golfers and tennis players of all skill levels enjoy a day of fun at Maplecrest Country Club in Goshen. Nearly 350 golf and tennis enthusiasts come together for tournaments on the course and the courts at Maplecrest. With the golf and tennis, Chamber members are treated to lunch between rounds and sets, entertainment and an hors d’oeuvres reception following the day of play. There’s putting contests, raffle and door prizes and opportunities for one lucky golfer to pick up a brand new car from the Goshen Auto Dealers for a hole in one.
