Sample the local specialities for breakfast – dried ham (pršut), maybe salted sardines, or a heartier Burek – a pastry filled with meat, cheese or vegetables, resembling a flakier Cornish pasty. You can stroll along the lakes on paths shaded by pine trees, cycle through the park or paddleboard across the lakes or, simply swim in the clear blue water. The island is famous for its honey bees and Benedictine monastery on nearby St. Marija. Polace is Mljet’s port, its sheltered location makes it popular with yachtsmen. Things to do and see Bike ride, guided tour of the National Park, swimming or kayaking in the lakes, visit St Mary’s Island, Odysseus Cave. Plan for the Day… Breakfast Morning Lunch Afternoon Dinner

Onboard Guests have the option to go for a bike ride around Mljet, the earlier the better to avoid the heat. There are cycle lanes around the lakes, you can stop and take a dip to cool off so take swimmers and a water bottle! There are plenty of signs, it’s almost impossible to get lost on Mljet. The island itself is rich in art and culture with beautiful nature and numerous secluded bays and breathtaking views. The main town is also called Korcula; it’s a typical medieval Dalmatian walled city with red roofed houses and round defensive towers, famous for its streets shaped in the form of a fish bone and well-preserved Gothic-Renaissance buildings. The most notable is St Marcus Cathedral. If time allows, there are some excellent local vineyards (Korcula is known for its tasty wines). Nearby is an archipelago of 20 uninhabited islands covered with dense thicket and an accessible coastline. Hvar old town has some of the best restaurants in the Adriatic including Zori and Passarola. There are also lots of boutiques and jewellery shops. The marina gets very busy, so if you can’t berth here, Luka Tiha is a very sheltered, idyllic anchorage. The pace is slower at the beautiful marina of Stari Grad (Best European destination nominee 2017). Meaning ‘old town’ this is the oldest town in Croatia and the historical heart of Hvar, it’s set around a deep blue bay and surrounded by green fields and olive groves. Its honey-hued streets are richly lined with marble stones, smiling cherubs and UNESCO protected cathedral. A saunter up to the ruined St Anne fortress is a perfect stretch for sea legs. The view spans over the 220 forested islands in Šibenik’s bay. A loop of island idylls stretches from Šibenik to Zadar. The clear blue bays of Žut make for a Robinson Crusoe escape. DAY 09: 18 AUGUST VENICE “Venice has been painted and described many thousands of times and of all the cities of the world is the easiest to visit without going there”, writes Henry James in his preface to Italian Hours. But every visit to the floating city is a pleasant surprise that, despite the crowds, there simply isn’t another place like it. A jewel-like cluster of 117 islands scattered across an Adriatic lagoon, its historical centre rising majestically from the seabed, defies gravity. Handsome facades line a labyrinth of canals, these waterways hum night and day, constantly criss-crossed by gondolas and pleasure craft. Beyond the Venice of artworks and postcards, the tiny islands beckon – the famous glassmakers at work; see the coloured houses and lace shops of Burano or head out to the rarely-visited Torcello. Things to do and see Teatro La Fenice – the opera house, gondola ride, tour of historical sites like Doge’s Palace, St Mark’s Basilica, Piazza San Marco, Bridge of Sighs, tour of the islands.
