We’re pleased to announce that we have sold another large Feadship. We are becoming known for our expertise in this superb brand, which has always been our intention. In the yacht broking industry, it’s essential to have a good working knowledge of the history and product of the best shipyards. We simply don’t have enough time in the day to know as much detail about all these shipyards as I think our clients deserve. We do know about Feadship. It’s a brand we admire, we’re confident in their product and we enjoy working with their dynamic and innovative team. In addition, we’ve been appointed Central Agent for the sale of KINGDOM COME, a 60m Feadship. Built in 1979, it was the largest yacht in its day and it has all the hallmarks of a true classic. Do contact our team for further information. If you are visiting the Monaco Yacht Show this year, then do come and speak to us onboard TURQUOISE. She is a magnificent yacht, fully refitted in 2014 with a modern interpretation of an Art Deco aesthetic, and is now for sale exclusively through Cecil Wright. Our team looks forward to seeing you there.

THE MARKET Since my last report of the 1st of March, the market has been somewhat of a rollercoaster, but has remained buoyant with some very exciting sales completing. Bizarrely, in the period 1st March – 1st August, we have had exactly the same number of sales as last year – 236. April was a record month with 57 yacht sales over 24 metres, but sales in May fell, failing to match 2015’s incredible tally of 64. It was clear that financial market instability and the build-up to Brexit caused apprehension within the yacht market and multiple clients voiced the referendum as being of particular concern. Post-Brexit we have seen further strengthening of the US Dollar and it is yet again the US Dollar backed buyers who are leading the charge in yacht acquisitions, with notable sales being the 64.70m, 2011, Amels, IMAGINE asking EUR 59,900,000, the 62.50m, 2013, Icon Yachts, MERIDIAN asking EUR 55,500,000 and the 60m, 2009, Abeking & Rasmussen, ELANDESS, asking EUR 52,500,000. There have been other substantial additions to the market, three of which are over 100m in length: the 107m, 2015 Kleven explorer yacht, ULYSSES, POA, the colossal 110m Lürssen ONA (ex-DILBAR) asking EUR 250,000,000 and the iconic 119m, Blohm + Voss ‘A’ asking an astonishing USD 300,000,000.

THE ¤100 MILLION CLUB For the first time we have a substantially populated market segment of yachts asking over 100 million Euros. There are currently ten yachts on the open market which have recently asked or are asking this astounding figure, ranging in length from the 75.40m Lürssen NORTHERN STAR to the 119m Blohm & Voss ‘A’. All ten of these yachts are super custom in their construction and the build costs are extremely closely guarded secrets. As such, determining the true value is somewhat of an art. Fortunately we are equipped with a plethora of market data and software to assist with making well thought-out, reasoned valuations and, subsequently, offers. In addition to the three aforementioned 100m+ yachts, other yachts of note on the market are the two Devonport yachts, the 78.88m, 2006, SAMAR asking EUR 115,000,000 and the 82m, 2008, SARAFSA asking EUR 135,000,000. After a substantial price reduction of EUR 38 million, the 78.40m, 2008/2015, Lürssen, TV (whilst no longer in the EUR 100 million club) is seriously for sale, and her new asking price of EUR 92,000,000 reflects this.

THE FEADSHIP MARKET 2016 has been a phenomenal year for Feadship sales! The largest of which, I am delighted to say, was the 62m POSITIVE CARRY (2005/2014) asking USD 49,750,000, sold by the team at Cecil Wright & Partners. The others were: • • • • • • • •

MEDUSE – 60.70m, 1996 / 2011 asking EUR 22,450,000 DÉJÀ VU – 50.28m, 2000 / 2012 asking EUR 17,950,000 GRAVITAS – 51.10m, 1995 / 2014 asking EUR 17,825,000 TROYANDA – 49.99m, 2004 / 2015 asking EUR 25,000,000 PRINCESS TOO – 47.55m, 1999 / 2015 asking EUR 15,000,000 LIONWIND – 47.24m, 1983 / 2015 asking USD 3,950,000 SEAFLOWER – 40.00m, 2002 / 2013 asking EUR 11,900,000 PATRIOT – 26.62m, 1984 / 2007 asking EUR 3,500,000

Fortunately for those looking to buy a Feadship, there have been some additions to the market in the same time period, two of which are extremely rare opportunities to buy very large in-build yachts: the 92m, AQUARIUS asking USD 215,000,000 is due for delivery in December 2016, and the 96.60m Project VERTIGO asking EUR 195,000,000 is due for delivery in February 2017. Both yachts present a tremendous chance for someone to sidestep the 4 year design/build process. Just shy of 3,000 Gross Tons they have very similar volumes to the 2015 launched SYMPHONY (at 101.50m,

the largest Dutch yacht to date) and also to the 99m MADAME GU (the second largest Dutch yacht) which was a project delivered by Chris Cecil-Wright and the New-Build Team in 2013. Others of note that have come to market are the 44.65m, F45 series yacht, BELLA VITA (ex-MADSUMMER), the 53.40m KISSES and the iconic 60.55m KINGDOM COME (ex-NARA). KINGDOM COME was the largest Feadship in the world at the time of her launch in 1979. Commissioned by a scion of the Mercedes-Benz dynasty, she was later sold to the Lebanese prime minister who owned the yacht for over 30 years. He was assassinated in 2005 and the yacht stayed within the family until mid-2014, at which time she went to her current owner. She is the only Feadship for sale in the 60m-70m bracket and, having undergone a painstaking refit over the winter of 2014/15 of both the mechanical side of the yacht and also the interior, she is a fantastic Heritage Feadship ready to find a new owner. In addition to the above – and looking further into the Feadship market and the other 27 that are available on the open market – there are a few yachts that particularly stand out as being of key interest: • • •

Project VERTIGO (in build) – 96.60m, 2017 asking EUR 195,000,000 AQUARIUS (in build) – 92m, 2016 asking USD 215,000,000 KINGDOM COME – 60.55m, 1979 / 2015 asking EUR 14,950,000 VAT Paid

• • • • • • •

MADSUMMER – 55.00m, 2005 / 2012 asking USD 37,500,000 HUNTRESS – 55m, 1997 / 2013 asking USD 29,950,000 KISSES – 53.40m, 2000 / 2014 asking USD 24,900,000 BG – 46.90m, 1990 / 2015 asking USD 11,990,000 LADY MAY – 46.40m, 2014 asking EUR 35,000,000 KISS – 46.22m, 2015 asking EUR 34,950,000 BELLA VITA – 44.65m, 2008 / 2014 asking USD 26,900,000

There is exciting news from Feadship: they are constructing a new yard near Amsterdam. “We are delighted to have found such an excellent spot to open this new facility,” commented Feadship director Jan-Bart Verkuyl, “The everincreasing demands for pure custom Feadships and the desire among clients to own very large yachts of Feadship quality make this a logical next step in the future-proofing of our organisation. Along with the Makkum yard, Feadship now has two facilities capable of building superyachts of well over 100 metres. This is especially pertinent with SYMPHONY – the largest Feadship launched to date – winning the prestigious World Superyacht Award. The luxury yacht market is evolving and, as we have done for decades, Feadship continues to lead the way." As ever, we have several off-market yachts available (including in-build) so please don’t hesitate to get in touch with the Cecil Wright team if you would like further details.

“ It’s so relaxing when you glide along the water feeling part of it all, and we especially look forward to spring when the waves are humongous" Milly Boyle

TEEN SPIRIT One of the UK’s major sailing hubs is Lymington, a port town on the Solent near to where Chris Cecil-Wright lives. The Royal Lymington Yacht Club – the launch pad for Sir Ben Ainslie’s stellar career – is renowned for its sailing prowess, and Chris believes that two of the club’s young members, 15-year olds Vita Heathcote and Milly Boyle, have the potential to realise their own Olympic dreams.

8

‘Vita and her family are my neighbours and she and her buddy Milly sail a 420 dinghy together,’ explains Chris, ‘They go out in any weather; it was blowing 25 knots last night on the river and they were doing circuits, the only kids out there. I think they’re inspirational and that they might go all the way to gold at the Olympics.’ A 420 is a 2-crew dinghy of 4.2m, and is the youth training vessel for the larger 470, an Olympic class dinghy. The girls, who have been friends since they were 5 years old, both began sailing Optimist (Oppie) single-handed dinghies when they were 6. ‘I was 7 when I sailed my first regatta,’ explains Vita, ‘and it was scary when the wind picked up. Now I love the wind, because you can go so fast.’ The girls converted to sailing a 420 together in September 2015 – with Vita at the helm and Milly mastering the trapeze and trimming the jib – and promptly won their first event. They secured their place in the European and World Championships 2016 – competitions that will see them using a set of sails donated by Cecil Wright.

GOLDEN MOMENTS Vita and Milly have already gathered a clutch of trophies between them from competing in their Oppies. Vita has won both the junior and senior UK Optimist Champion titles and Youth Sailor of the Year 2015, and at age 12 Milly won the Eric Twiname Championship. In 2013, the girls – together with Milly’s twin sister Charlotte – were announced as the Winner Team of the UK and each had an Optimist boat personalized for them. An advantage of competing at the top level is the opportunity for travel to exotic locations such as Martinique, Argentina, Italy, France and Spain. ‘Martinique was one of my favourites,’ says Milly, ‘it was always hot and we went for runs in the jungle. Also Lake Garda, where we had mountains towering over us as we sailed.’

SAILING IN SYNC The girls train in their 420 every Thursday evening with Shelly, their coach, and also on the weekends if they’re not competing, ‘When we train we go round courses trying to improve on every lap,’ says Vita, ‘I focus on speed and staying on the wind, while Milly is

looking at the gusts, thinking of upwind tactics and concentrating on keeping the spinnaker flying when we’re downwind.’ In the adrenaline-fuelled moments before a race begins, Vita and Milly think that their connection gives them added confidence, ‘If you get a good start you’re pretty much set for the race, so we’re really on edge at that point,’ explains Milly, ‘We say very few words to each other, but we know exactly how the other one feels. That’s why we’ve done so well already: we just get each other and we’re a great team.’ They also share a desire to compete at the highest level. ‘It would be amazing to be on a team for the America’s Cup and Milly and I would like to start an Olympic campaign in the 470,’ says Vita. Milly agrees: ‘I do dream about an Olympic campaign, but definitely with Vita. I don’t want to do it with anyone else.’

CALIFORNIA DREAMING If Napa Valley were considered to be the Bordeaux of America, then Harlan Estate would certainly achieve first growth status. H. William “Bill” Harlan, the founder of Harlan Estate and the prestigious Meadowood Napa Valley Resort, approached Philip Norfleet, a premier golf club developer, with the idea of establishing a wine growing estate with a unique club membership. Their discussions bore fruit in the shape of The Napa Valley Reserve. 'I had already worked for Jack Niklaus in the golf club development business when Bill Harlan first called me,’ says Philip Norfleet, now Managing Director of The Reserve, ‘He asked “What are the elements for a private club, a wine equivalent of the New York Yacht Club in sailing or Augusta National in golf?” We discussed ideas and agreed that if it wasn’t unequivocally exceptional we wouldn’t do it.’ Bill Harlan completed a purchase of 80 acres adjacent to Meadowood Napa Valley for the vineyards, hospitality barns and state-of-the-art winery and caves that now constitute The Reserve. Together Bill and Philip developed educational programmes including lectures by renowned oenophiles, special hosted dinners and hands-on lessons in winemaking. ‘Our members can learn how to prune and harvest, blend their own wine, choose their own bottle format, and design custom labels,‘ explains Philip, ‘Members may participate as much or as little as they choose for a fraction of the cost of owning their own vineyard and winery.’ UNIQUE APPEAL All wine is produced by the Harlan Estate winemaking team and is exclusively sold to members. Grape varietals for the Bordeaux-style blend include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petite Verdot and Cabernet Franc and The Reserve has recently begun producing a Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon white wine blend. A ‘Designated Membership’ entitles you to adjust the estate’s master blend that year to suit your taste and present the wine at home as your creation. All members are invited to join international trips, such as safaris in Botswana and Zambia followed by a visit to South Africa’s winelands, or sailing between Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily, the Amalfi Coast and Capri. ON THE GRAPEVINE Since 2003, The Reserve has attracted accomplished members as diverse as Silicon Valley start-up entrepreneurs, Europe-based wine lovers and the global glitterati. The crème de la crème of the winemaking world have also been drawn to its desirable terroir: visiting specialists have included Pierre Lurton of Château Cheval Blanc and Château d’Yquem and Aubert de Villaine of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. Chris Cecil-Wright and his wife Kitty Johnson – a respected wine critic – visited recently and were both highly impressed: ‘It’s an extraordinary wine club that goes about their business the same way as we go about ours,’ says Chris, ‘By only focusing on the finest.’

“ We offer unparalleled experiences for our members; however, it’s at the speed of Mother Nature, not the microchip." Philip Norfleet, Managing Director of The Napa Valley Reserve

Behind each epic African challenge that Chris Cecil-Wright embarks on – such as motorcycling from Mount Kilimanjaro to Cape Town or running and cycling across the Namibian desert – there is one man who tailors the trips and pulls the strings. Gregg Hughes, co-founder of Safari Footprints, knows Africa like nobody’s business. The African landscape is a vast and varied natural world that requires expert guiding and interpretation. ‘With Gregg you get completely engrossed in Africa,’ says Chris, ‘I go once a year with a group of friends and each time Gregg lays on something incredible. He guides with enthusiasm, entertaining banter and an encyclopedic knowledge of animals - he can even call birds in using his voice.’ Whether it’s a scenic safari from an aircraft, mountain or motorbiking across African terrain or canoeing a river, Gregg Hughes will deliver on his clients’ dreams of Africa from a thrilling perspective. ‘We mould our ‘projects’, as I like to call them, around what our clients want to achieve here,’ explains Gregg, ‘All our safaris are with repeat clients. We initiate ideas and tailormake their African adventure. I get to know them, and they come back for other things to do – there are so many experiences here.’ WALKING ON THE WILD SIDE A South African native, Gregg worked at prestigious game reserves and at a large safari operator before starting his own guiding organization in 2008. Safari Footprints now arranges bespoke adventures to the main attractions across several countries on the continent: Victoria Falls, the Zambezi River, the Okavanga Delta and witnessing the wildebeest migration. ‘But that’s just scratching the surface,’ Gregg continues, ‘You can experience real wilderness that’s without equal on the planet. We have megafauna – such as elephants, lions and hippos – as well as unique tribes and ethnic groups. These are the things that draw people back.’ And Safari Footprints has a holistic approach to preserving those elements, making donations to wildlife conservation initiatives for every safari booked. THE NATURE OF THE BEAST Standard safaris last two to three weeks and the accommodation ranges from remote tented camps to the finest luxury lodges. Chris’s most recent expedition with Gregg entailed running and cycling 600km across the Namibian desert with tented camps being erected ahead of the party of 20 guests. ‘It’s a test of endurance as well as the elements,’ says Gregg, ‘It’s one of the harshest deserts in the world.’ Gregg is with his clients every metre of the way, and his expertise in biology, nutrition, animal behaviour, plants, insects and birds means that they are always in good hands. ‘You have to watch the traffic,’ explains Gregg, ‘You’re in the food chain here. I’ve been charged by all the big animals and stalked by crocodile. That’s just life in the bush. It’s an incredible thrill, but you have to make the right call at the right time.’ Asked to name an occasion when he’s seen something sublimely beautiful in Africa, Gregg answers simply: ‘That happens every day. Because of all the diversity, I’m always seeing something new.’

FEADSHIPLAUNCHESF 2016 has been another extraordinary year of remarkable designs from Feadship. We have highlighted their latest creations below, including the smaller than usual series of yachts at 33.50ft: Kamino, Moon Sand Too and Avatar. All three have been built to be more compact but offer the same level of luxury as a yacht twice their size. The designs generate a sense of space and supreme comfort, featuring high ceilings and plenty of oversized windows.

HISTORY IN THE MAKING Feadship has made a habit out of surprising the yachting industry with each splendid vessel that emerges from its two shipyards, Royal Van Lent and Koninklijke De Vries. Recently, Royal Van Lent produced shockwaves of its own when the shipyard announced that CEO Dick van Lent would be stepping down after 31 years in the position. His successor, Jan-Bart Verkuyl, tells us about his own pedigree and passion for the company, and how he’ll strive to protect the special family atmosphere. The story of Jan-Bart Verkuyl’s rise to the helm of one of the most prestigious companies in yachting starts like so many others: as a child on the water. ‘I grew up in the south of the Netherlands on a nature reserve and was always passionate about boats,’ he explains, ‘Some kids get a small motorbike – I had a small boat with an engine.’ His curiosity about boats – and how fast they could go – drove him to study naval architecture; this was followed by a Project Manager role at the maritime research institute MARIN. In 2006, Jan-Bart joined Feadship at De Voogt Naval Architects, moved across to Royal Van Lent in 2011 and found himself on the Feadship board of Directors after just three years. Chris Cecil-Wright had interacted with Jan-Bart on the builds of TANGO and HAMPSHIRE II: ‘He had stepped into negotiation and management roles in recent years and I’ve worked closely with him on a project for delivery in spring 2018,’ says Chris, ‘He is charming, detailed and proactive and it’s great to have witnessed his career trajectory at the Van Lent shipyard.’ BREAK WITH TRADITION Royal Van Lent has been run by four generations of the Van Lent family since it was founded in 1849, and Dick van Lent’s decision to step down was part of a well-thought-out plan. ‘Dick was able to take time for the steps to happen,’ says Jan-Bart, ‘He sold the company when he didn’t need to and chose a buyer wisely (LVMH). He focused on whom in the team he valued for the various positions being handed over, and felt comfortable with me taking over his role. It’s quite a responsibility, but I’m honoured.’ Dick will continue at the company as an adviser, which Jan-Bart finds reassuring: ‘He’s seen many more situations than I have and it will be good to have him there.’ FAMILY MATTERS The joint passion of the entire team at Royal Van Lent to build the best vessels possible is a motivating factor for Jan-Bart: ‘The family values of the company are something that I feel inside myself. There are long hours, but with the right people it’s fun,’ he says. ‘I have four daughters who all love the water and I engage them in what I do – the clients enjoy seeing them as well. Yachting is a lifestyle and not just a business. Clients respect the work that we do, but it’s always more than a transaction - it’s a personal relationship.’ BUSINESS AS USUAL The baton has been passed at a particularly busy time for Royal Van Lent. ‘We’re building a new facility and growing the workforce in order to meet the market demand for bigger boats,’ Jan-Bart says of the Feadship Amsterdam yard that will accommodate megayachts up to 160 metres in length and 27 metres in beam. The width of the canals in their Kaag facility is limiting, Van Lent’s largest yacht to date being 101.5m SYMPHONY. In the coming year, Van Lent will launch a 73m yacht and Feadship has a further 17 yachts in the pipeline, one of which is the project with Cecil Wright, ‘I can’t wait for that job to come out,’ says Jan-Bart, ‘I think people will say “I want that too!”’ The challenge, he admits, is to build the bigger yachts to the exceptionally high standards of Feadship. ‘We’ll succeed I’m sure, but it’s a careful step,’ says Jan-Bart of the next chapter in Royal Van Lent’s history.

“ What Chris has done is create a boutique brokerage with a very human scale. His distinctive choice in only being involved in building the best yachts appeals to us: it’s what we do." Jan-Bart Verkuyl, CEO of Royal Van Lent

COLOURFUL CUBA A place of rum, salsa, revolutionaries and vintage cars, Cuba has been standing still in time since the fifties. In recent years, yachts would visit at their own peril, but Cuba has at last flung open its doors – and now is the time to go.

HAVANA

Day 1 Havana Clear customs and head into the bustling, historic city that lies in a state of crumbling elegance – a living museum that simply must be visited once in a lifetime. Walk the four Plazas of Old Havana and have an atmospheric lunch at a secluded paladar (a private restaurant) or at the luxurious Hotel Saratoga – a Havana institution. In the evening, dine at La Bodequita Del Medio: home of the Mojito. This was also Hemingway’s favourite spot in the early sixties; the Papa Doble was his tipple and is named after him. Later you could head to one of the salsa clubs for which Havana is famous.

Day 2 Havana Spend the morning enjoying the Playas del Este, the beaches closest to Havana. Santa Maria is the trendiest strip, thrumming with the sounds of ‘reggae-boom’ and brimming with thatched huts selling rum-laced coconut milk. Later on, visit a local tobacco farm, the famous limestone caves at Cueva del Indio, the Partagas Cigar Factory or the Finca La

Vigía (once Hemingway’s home and now a museum). Back in Havana, places to see include the Basilica, Revolution Square and the Bacardi building. In the evening, have dinner at the colourful, unpretentious restaurant Mama Inés – the owner was Fidel Castro’s private chef for many years. Afterwards, see the open air cabaret at Havana’s legendary nightclub ‘La Tropicana’. Day 3 Cuba’s north coast This length of coastline has some of Cuba’s best beaches with endless stretches of powdery, bone-white sand. Limpid turquoise waters are dotted with groomed resorts, hidden jungle tracks and wedges of undiscovered paradise. Start with Varadero, a 25km runway of pristine sand flanked by sparkling waters and palms. Day 4 The Northern Cays This network of small islets is interspersed with turquoise waters and mangrove colonies. The Cays form one of Cuba’s newest tourist resorts. You can spend a heavenly day exploring the beaches, starting with breakfast

at Playa Pilar – this is where Ernest Hemingway spent much time, and the beach is named after his yacht. Have a picnic lunch on the beach near Bahía de Naranjo, a nature park where you can swim with the dolphins. Although there is a ‘dolphinarium’, the dolphins can come and go as they please. Day 5 Cayo Coco A tropical island in the Jardines del Rey archipelago, Cayo Coco is dotted with lagoons and marshes. The area is home to an array of wild birds including white ibis and a large colony of pink flamingos. The beach at Playa Los Flamencos is a 3km stretch of fine sand and transparent waters where mandarincoloured starfish float through the shallows. The snorkelling here is fabulous. Day 6 Cayo Sabinal Astonishingly beautiful and eerily peaceful thanks to its isolation, Cayo Sabinal was once a hiding place for pirates and smugglers who used to mount attacks on ships navigating the Bahamas Channel. You can visit the Fort that was built by the Spanish in 1831 to curb those wayward scoundrels. There are a number of fabulous beaches including Playa Los Pinos, where blindingly white sand is backed by woodlands that contain wild deer and horses. Hemingway wrote The Great Blue River here. The snorkelling is sublime and you can see starfish beds near Playa Bonita. Day 7 Guardalavaca The market at Playa Pasquero is a good place to amble and grab a Mojito. The surrounding area is a castaway’s paradise and home to some exotic wildlife; a local guide will show you rare baobab-like trees, iguanas, birds and orchids. The island is also home to plenty of dive sites for an underwater adventure. Nearby, Cayo Saetía was once a private game reserve and here you can see ostrich, zebra, antelope and water buffalo roaming freely.

WHEN TO GO? Cuba is known for its ‘endless summer’, though December to May is the best time to visit for virtually guaranteed dry, sunny days and blue skies. It’s a good idea to coincide your trip with one of the many celebrations and festivals, including the cigar festival in February, the ballet festival in October and the film and jazz festivals in December. WHICH YACHT? MARTHA ANN 70.11m Lurssen (2008) 12 guests + up to 3 staff, 21 crew EUR 600,000 per week

Captain Zak has circumnavigated Cuba and knows how to navigate the Cuban customs procedures smoothly, too. Many things set MARTHA ANN apart: the observation lounge that converts to a cinema, her Gatsby-esque interior and the sense of space (headroom is 2.2m throughout). With 7 bars, including a sports bar and Jacuzzi bar with swim-up stools, this is a superb yacht for entertaining. No less than 8 stewardesses use a maze of crew corridors to provide a discreet level of service for up to 12 guests. Their “tablescaping” and attention to detail add something extra special to the charter experience.

The stock market is not simply about shares in businesses, it’s much more nuanced than that. You’ve got penny shares in tiny businesses being traded alongside shares from Microsoft. These are very different propositions and opportunities. I feel that it’s the same with the yacht industry. It’s a huge market with so many diverse brands and I can only comment on the section of the market that I know about – namely yachts of 55m and above. If this was the stock market we might well be looking at a period of profit taking. We’ve had a rise in the market and there are now a number of new yachts under construction that are for sale before they’ve been delivered. Those buyers went into the market when it was in the doldrums four years ago and I am quietly optimistic that they are now making a profit. I don’t envisage any slowing down in the top end of the market and, given that that’s our niche, we’re delighted with the status quo.

Since Cecil Wright launched, the company’s yacht charter sales have been in the skillful hands of Claire van der Vorm. Her identical twin sister, Lucinda Rosen, joined Cecil Wright just before the Monaco Yacht Show 2015 and subsequently the twins have been an effective – and unique – charter team. Lucinda and Claire grew up boating and waterskiing in Devon, but it was the opportunity to crew for a season in Antigua in 1997 that set Lucinda on course for a career in yacht broking, ‘The MIRABELLA III was 41.40m and one of the biggest and busiest sailing yachts that you could charter at the time,’ says Lucinda, ‘As a stewardess, I had fantastic insight into what charterers expect from the crew and how hard the crew needs to work to fulfill those expectations.’ In 1998 Lucinda was able to use that knowledge in a new capacity, retail charter, at a London-based yacht brokerage company. She worked with Chris CecilWright at this time, before leaving to be a full-time mother in 2004. When she came back to her career in 2015, it was to work alongside her sister at Cecil Wright. ‘For Lucinda, nothing is too much trouble,’ says Chris, ‘She’s diligent, optimistic and great fun to have around.’ And of her being an identical twin, Chris says: ‘It can be easy to confuse her with Claire on the phone – their voices are indecipherable.’ SHOW AND TELL One aspect of Lucinda’s professional role that she particularly enjoys is visiting the two main charter boat shows of the year: the Antigua Yacht Show and the Genoa Boat Show. ‘At Genoa this year, Claire and I

were invited onboard several of the boats to have lunch or do a ‘yacht hop’ in the evening for canapés and drinks. It’s a great opportunity to sample the chef’s cuisine and get an overall feel for the yacht, its captain and crew.’ By visiting as many boats as possible, Lucinda and Claire have first hand experience to relay to their charter clients. ‘In Genoa, I took lots of photographs of a new boat a client was interested in chartering – more than was available on the website or in the brochure – which was a good personal touch.’ TWO OF A KIND Claire and Lucinda work hard to deliver exceptional and surprising suggestions to their clients and satisfy any special requests, ‘We don’t just look at the yacht folio, we really go to market and look closely at the area too,’ says Claire, ‘We make sure that no stone is unturned and we suggest yachts that other brokers don’t necessarily know about.’ On the subject of working together, the sisters echo one another: ‘There’s no competitiveness and there are no politics between us,’ says Lucinda. ‘We do work totally in tune with one another,’ adds Claire, ‘And we only want each other to do well. Everyone should have a twin to work with – it’s the ultimate team.’
