As Humphrey Bogart famously says in Casablanca, “we’ll always have Paris”. In a sense, the French capital is the country’s gift to the world – a city so romantic, countless songs, poems, films and pieces of art have been inspired by its effortlessly chic streets and its beautiful - at times beguiling - suburbs. This is a place where the scent of freshly-baked pastries greets you every morning, where the latest contemporary art is created, where fashion is like a language only Parisians can speak. And the food, the sweet, sweet food. There’s a reason why Paris is the European capital of Michelin-star restaurants. The great thing is, we’ll always have Paris. London is an explosion of flavours from around the world, merging together to create one of the most exciting dining scenes on earth. Every type of cuisine is represented on the streets of the British capital, and exploring them is a cultural adventure in itself. Here are some top notch dining suggestions from our London aficionados.

Need to know GETTING AROUND Paris was made to be marvelled at. Exploring by foot is always the best option, as the streets are as charming and enchanting as you imagine. But if time is of the essence, this cosmopolitan city offers a variety of transport options. With over 300 stations in the city, the Paris metro is a quick and easy way to explore the French capital. Commuting is a necessity for Parisians, so a ride on the metro is a glimpse into everyday life. It pays to get the metro to see the local fashion and vibrant characters, as well as the efficiency of getting from A to B. Tickets are available from multilingual ticket machines in every station, where you can choose from single, daily or weekend options. An extensive bus network is also available using metro tickets. You can buy tickets on the bus, but they are more expensive than pre-purchased ones. To order taxis and private car services, please contact your hotel’s concierge to pre-book. Taxis are not as common as you’d expect, and can be difficult to find.
WEATHER Paris is seasonal, with differing weather patterns that depend on what time of the year you visit. Summers tend to be warm and dry, with temperatures averaging in the mid-20s. May tends to be the wettest month, while February is the driest. Winters are chilly, with average daily temperatures hovering around 5 – 10 degrees. Snowfall does occur on occasion, but it is unusual for it to interfere with daily life.
GENERAL SAFETY & SECURITY Paris is generally a very safe city, and all districts are safe to walk through. There are, however, occasional muggings, so the same care should be taken in Paris as in any other large international city. Specific care should be taken on trains and at busy tourist destinations, where pickpockets sometimes operate.
LOCAL CELL / MOBILE SIM The French calling code is +33, and sim cards are readily available at specialist shops that are dotted throughout Paris. For call rates on your existing cell, contact your home provider.
WATER Tap water in Paris is free and perfectly safe to drink.
GRATUITY Like most of Europe, tipping is by no means obligatory. It is, however, appreciated at restaurants, hair salons and with tour guides. The amount you tip is at your discretion.

Bars & Cafes There’s nothing more Parisian than sitting on a street-facing chair with a glass of wine as you watch the city go by. Long story short, Paris has an abundance of places to sip on your choice of drink. From cosy coffee bars to chic and sleek cocktail clubs, the city is teeming with a vibrant social scene that never fails to impress. Here are some of our favourites.
Chez Janou Head on over to Chez Janou for a truly Parisian experience. The quaint, vintage-style café offers drinks and meals, and is bustling with locals enjoying lunch, dinner or a casual drink. Culture Like London and New York, Paris is a vibrant world capital with many cultures merging together to create an unrivalled lifestyle that is seen nowhere else. Live music is available any night of the week, exhibitions are constantly changing and there is always something exciting to do or to see. Here are a few of our best suggestions.
Le Grand Palais This majestic stone building was constructed for the Universal Exposition in 1900, and has since housed quite the array of events. A hospital in World War I, a nazi truck depot in World War II, headquarters of the resistance during the Liberation of Paris, a much-loved venue for fashion shows by French label Chanel and now a national gallery. Outdoors City life doesn’t have to be full of smog and crowds. In fact, on the contrary. Paris has a number of outdoor activities to ensure you get some fresh air, and the city is so beautiful you’re never far away from a beautiful spot in the sun. Here are some of the best ways to enjoy the outdoors in Paris.
Les Quais de Seine There’s nothing like a stroll along the river to discover different sights in the City of Light. Recently closed to car traffic, Les Quais de Seine has become the perfect place for Parisians to enjoy a leisurely stroll. Start from the stunning Pont Alexandre III, which comes complete with picture-worthy views of the Eiffel Tower, and head towards the barges, where you can stop for a well-deserved drink as you take in the views and definitive Parisian ambience.
