hereever I go the question that pops up is ‘who are you supporting’ like I am supposed to be into football as its insane not to be but wow I never been one to be into the world cup but for some reason this one has me drawn in. You cant help but join in with the excitement of everyone whose drinking at the pubs and singing football songs down the street. All my friends are talking about it and the office is driving me insane with this fever so yes I am now in. ha. For the rest of June this is what its gonna be all about, I suppose the fact the world cup is in Brazil makes me really interested as I couldnt help watching it just to see the amazing female fans in the stadium. As you know Brazilian women are nothing but beautiful so this will keep my eyes on it.

Shakira double-strike wins in Brazil 2014 World Cup anthem score

I

t was the World match to beat all World Cup matches as ‘Ole Ola’ vs ‘Waka Waka’ and ‘La La La’ battled it out to be FIFAs official anthem to get Brazil hot under the collar. The Fifa-sanctioned ‘We Are One (Ole Ola),’ performed by rapper Pitbull and Jennifer Lopez, scored a ‘tap in’ with the samba-loving football-worshiping Brazilians, as Colombian beauty Shakira, whose songs are now being championed as alternative theme tunes by South American music lovers, blasted in her two screamers... Back Of The Net!!! The Pitbull-JLo combo got Brazilian pulses racing, but for all the wrong reasons, as the tonguetwisting three-way ‘match’ erupted. Critics said they didn’t understand why the Cuban-American rapper and Bronx-born Puerto Rican singer were chosen when there are so many great musicians in the land of the host nation. Another issue for the natives-no choice of the two artists- is the “stereotypes with smiling, barefoot children and semi-naked, samba-dancing women,” the Associated Press said. A campaign to adopt Shakira’s

2010 popular World Cup anthem, ‘Waka Waka,’ as the unofficial tournament anthem ensued which garnered plenty of support on Twitter. Even though the song has many of the same shortcomings-supporters overlooking the fact that the song was designed to celebrate South Africa 2010, has a soca beat and was sung in English and Spanish, by a Colombian. She released ‘La La La,’ with a football-themed video featuring the likes of her partner, Barcelona defender, Gerard Pique and several of his club colleagues, including Cesc Fabregas and Lionel Mess, plus Colombian heroes Radamel Falcao and James Rodríguez, Brazil superstar, Neymar, Frenchman Éric Abidal and Manchester City’s Argentina striker, Sergio Aguero, all willing participants. There’s even a very special cameo appearance by the pop icon’s son Milan. The single was also released to help support the World Food Program. Whoever wins the 18 carat gold trophy on July 14, in this World Cup battle of musical heavyweights, Shakira’s double-strike scores as the two-time winner for Brazil 2014.

Beauty Secrets

with Gemma Aldous

BEAUTY SECRET #3: MAKE IT COLD After a night out, people think they should have a hot bath and relax to revive dull, tired and puffy looking skin. Wrong! You should take a cold shower to refresh and revitalise the skin and use the cold to your advantage. Here are a few tips: 1) FREEZE THE FLANNEL Put a cold flannel in the freezer until it is crispy then place over the face for your skin to de puff, tighten and feel super fresh! It will have your makeup looking really fresh!

2) ICE CUBES AND MOISTUIRSER Ever wonder how celebs and models can party and still look fresh in the media the next day? The answer is simple… ICE CUBES and MOISTURISER. It’s their beauty secret weapon! Before applying makeup, you first need to start with fresh clean skin. Stroke ice cubes around the face, especially where you see fine lines or tiredness. This instantly lifts, de puffs and smoothes out fine lines. Next, moisturise. Lightweight moisturisers are best. I like Dermalogica Active Moist or, for a great budget buy, you could try a simple Nivea face cream. Follow this with a great primer and you’ll have the perfect, flawless base apply your makeup and eradicate the evidence of last night. This is a great tip for both men and women to do, party or no party, as it helps makeup to last longer and, by looking after your skin, will help to fight the signs of aging.

BEAUTY SECRET #4: EYES TO DIE FOR 1) EYESHADOW PROBLEM: You take ages to apply your eye-shadow and it lasts all of 5 minutes. SOLUTION: This is a common problem. So many of us apply eye-shadow and then it has gone by time we are about to step out for the night! A common reason for this is that you haven’t properly prepared the eye prior to application. For lasting eye-shadow

(and makeup generally), first apply a concealer to the eyelid so that the eye skin oils have something to hold onto. This means that your eye-shadow will be able to sit on top of the concealer, giving it great staying power all night long! Also, make sure you’ve properly cleansed and toned the skin prior to any makeup application (see below).

2) CREATING THE PERFECT SMOKEY EYE Lots of people struggle to do this but, with the right tips, it doesn’t need to be difficult. The main thing here is to use a cream shadow. - Sweep a translucent white cream eye-shadow across the lid and to the brow arch. This leaves a slight shimmer for the highlight effect but is soft and beautiful, and opens up the eye. - Next, choose your shadow. My favourite is a brown cream shadow. Apply a small amount and sweep across the lash line as this is the darkest part of your smoky eye. - Then, use a clean brush to blend

upwards from the line and create that smoky effect. It’s so simple! - Then add a black liner to the inner eye and, for extra smoky effect, use the excess from the blending brush and sweep under the lower lash line. Et voila!! The great thing about cream shadows is that they don’t drop so you can apply them after your base without messing it up!! I would stick to the two shades to start with for the smoky effect. As your confidence increases, you can start to add a third.. If you’re feeling brave, gold, copper, bronze all go fabulously with brown.

Brazil 2014

THE greatest show on turf kicks off

S

o it all got off to a blinding start as the watching world were treated to a celebration of colour, dance and music as Brazil officially unleashed the 2014 World Cup with Jennifer Lopez, Pitbull and Claudia Leitte performing at the opening ceremony at Arena de Sao Paulo, kick-starting the world’s greatest tournament, and in some style too. The World Cup has had its fair share of memorable opening ceremony moments - none more so than Diana Ross fluffing her lines by missing a penalty with an open goal in 1994, but bloopers were very few

in these Samba as the country showed it was up to the task. This truly was a festival of colour and this opening ceremony did not disappoint. An undiluted mix of fans from Brazil, Croatia, Mexico, Germany and others join in the fun before the opening fixture, a typically tentative affair where the importance was in ‘not losing,’ as opposed to going out to win. A scrappy affair, as expected, to get things rolling took the game to the hosts, taking the lead after 11 minutes, but, in the end, the Cup favourites showed their true worth,

coming out a comfortable 3-1 winners over the plucky guests to this party. The tournament is up and running now as the next few weeks’ promises, on the basis of the opening day, a fantastic celebration of the skills, passion and united spirit that makes the game of football the greatest sport in the world. The drama and high-end shenanigans of the world’s greatest sporting spectacle, in the football-obsessed nation is to be the greatest in the history of the game and most celebrated of global extravaganzas…ever!

COVER STORY

This most mouth-watering of tournaments will see 32 competing nations all pit their wits against each other as they set out to outshoot, outscore, cajole and entertain as the world’s billion-plus watches on, waiting to experience the ‘beautiful game,’ played the beautiful way, leaving memories that will last forever. Who’s to say Ghana, Japan, Nigeria, Australia, or indeed any of the teams living their dreams of being part of the greatest sport on the planet can’t dream of etching their names on world football history.

As the expecting nation holds its collective breath as the five-times champions set things going in their quest to return the trophy to, what many people in the game calls, the ‘spiritual home of football,’ Brazil coach, Luis Felipe Scolari, knows what is ahead: “The time has arrived. We are going together. This is our World Cup.” 200million-plus Brazilians are determined to bring the FIFA World Cup back ‘home.’ Messi, Toure, Rooney, Ronaldo, et al will also have their

COVER STORY

say on who wins the spoils next month. Italy, the eternal ‘dark horses’ of just about every major tournament-yet 4 times World Cup winners-lead Europe’s charge for what is the ‘holy grail’ when held in the continent. Holders, Spain, will be tested again and hope they don’t get blown away as they did in the Confederations Cup there in 2012. The effervescent ‘machine’ that is Germany will always feel they a chance too. England have lowered their own expectations, which is strange because people in England usually think they can win the World Cup. This time around, many of the more learned in

the game in this country openly feel that the “Three Lions” are a long, long way away from winning it this time around. Reaching the last 16 would be seen as a good return this time round. Can Ghana go that one step further than their quarter finals in 2010, or would the Ivory Coast be Africa’s greatest achievers this time? The Netherlands, Portugal, Belgium, or the much improved Nigeria might just ‘throw a spanner’ in these proverbial works. Here’s to a Copa das Copas worthy of the name.

ammerhead Navigation has created a unique system for commuters and serious cyclists to navigate streets simply with a portable device that affixes to handlebars and conveniently guides their ride. Users can navigate daily routes or explore new routes, while saving the battery life of their smartphones display switched off. With Hammerhead, consumers can download the iPhone® app, input a set route, and enjoy the simplicity and convenience of LED

lights indicating turn by turn directions. Hammerhead supports the movement for “greener” transportation, and encourages safer riding with mobile devices kept stashed away. The Hammerhead is packaged with a universal mount to fit onto the handlebars of any bike and doubles as a headlight during nighttime rides. The headlight has a 20 - hour battery life and the Hammerhead app will provide over six hours of navigation.

mobile. With Android and iOS apps available, you can choose your favourite device to track your activity. Statistics are tracked with the tri-axis accelerometer continues to count your steps accurately regardless of how you wear it. Be aware, however, that there’s no altimeter on this device, so it won’t track the stairs you climb. With a battery life of 4-6 months, and low energy bluetooth connection when syncing to the app, the Mistfit Shine allows you to literally wear and forget it, and with its light weight and ease of wearing, it’s something you probably will do. Available at John Lewis for £99, as well as a number of other online retailers, it sits at a price point that will entice the sporadic and dedicated keepfitters alike. While the Shine may not have the multitude of trackers and statistics that others contain, it is a beautiful piece of technology that will certainly aid users in their quests to keep active. In a field of far more expensive systems, and some less so, the £99 Misfit Shine does just that.

WHITE DEE’S COLUMN

‘White Dee’s’ Column

I

n case you all don’t know, I’m Dee from the street and I’m pleased to meet all you Street Cred readers. This is my 1st official column, so its probably going to be all over the place, but that’s how I am, all over the place. I am so honoured to even be asked to write a column, and I hope to bring you news about what’s happening in my life, and about new amazing talented young people that I have had the pleasure to meet, and also about some issues that I hold very close to my heart. Firstly my weekend consisted of attending Birmingham Pride, which I have been going to since Caitlin was in a pushchair and Mom was on her scooter, knocking everyone out of the way bless her. For obvious reasons, this year was a whole lot different to every other year I’ve gone. Birmingham Pride has been going for 18yrs and I’ve been going for 16 of them. Its a celebration of gay and lesbian rights and people from all over the country attend, whether they are gay, straight, black, white, asian or of any other denomination. They definitely know how to throw a party, and they do it in style. It definitely didn’t rain on the Birmingham Pride parade. I didn’t realise that so many people would recognise me, want a picture taken with me and Caitlin, ask where Gerrard was.

I can honestly say I must have had over 1000 pictures taken with some of the nicest people you could wish to meet. At the end of the day we all bleed the same colour, and Birmingham Pride showed the world how its done brummie style. We cant wait for next year, where its guaranteed to be bigger and better, and for the record Caitlin's favourite moment was meeting Conor Maynard and Katy B and mine was the amazing Angie Brown. On a more serious note, can you imagine losing a son, brother, father and 3 years later still be none the wiser as to what actually happened to him.

This is the case with Kingsley Burrell's family. Kingsley was walking with his young son, when an incident led to him calling the police for their help. How then was he arrested and sectioned under the Mental Health Act and

three days later he died. Kingsley had no history of any mental illness, he had so much to give, he had children who needed his guidance and are now fighting for justice for their dad. There are so many unanswered questions that need answering. Enough is enough, this family need to be able to grieve in the knowledge that Kingsley can finally rest in peace. So there it is then my 1st column done, I hope its all okay because I could go on forever. Well until next time, stay safe and keep thriving in all you do and follow me on twitter @therealdeekelly Much Love Dee

HE OR SHE LOVES ME? HE OR SHE LOVES ME NOT?

Ok let’s be real! what is lurrrve? Being loved up is a wonderful feeling, its beautiful! But is there a clear and obvious distinction between saying it and feeling it? I asked a few men if they tell their girl they love them and the majority said ‘SHE just KNOWS I DON’T HAVE TO SAY NUTT’N’, a few said ‘WHAT FOR? I’M THERE WITH HER ENNIT and a very small few said ‘NAH’. The women I asked ALL said that they tell their man that they love them! Interesting huh? Some women will blatantly tell their partner what’s happening in terms of the whole ‘LOVE THANG’ some men still want to ‘LOVE TO LOVE YA’ as ‘YOUR THE BEST HE EVER

HAD’ but in his eyes ‘THAT’S THE WAY LOVE GOES’ and won’t declare ANYTHING but will buy their girl EVERYTHING! Men talk up! Gifts are nice (I won’t lie) but nothing says I LOVE YOU more than the words itself as well as SINCERE actions.

According to Wikipedia - Love can refer to an emotion of a strong attraction and personal attachment. It can also be a virtue representing human kindness, compassion, and affection. According to Dictionary.com Love is a profoundly tender, pas-

sionate affection for another person, a feeling of warm personal attachment or deep affection, as for a parent, child, or friend. According to Psychologytoday. com - Love is a force of nature, bigger than you are. You can invite love, but you cannot dictate how, when, and where love expresses itself. You can choose to surrender to love, or not, but in the end love strikes like lightening, unpredictable and irrefutable. According to Chantelle Guy - Love is a very strong emotion that cannot be controlled. Loving another can sometimes confuse you and encourages you to question yourself and your actions...The HIT animation, FROZEN, got it right! ‘LET IT GO’ because ‘LOVE IS AN OPEN DOOR!’

Football Fever Hits College Open Day

The Australia vs. Netherlands game will also be screened live on a big screen in Jerome’s Restaurant.
