his Friday its all about that Will Power, yes thats the tag line from the pop giant Will I AM who is our cover star this month I’ve never been a fan of him or the Black Eyed Peas but one thing is I know all his records inside out so that’s telling me I’m supposed to like him and i am just denying my love? Maybe ha! Of late though I find myself humming his new tracks and loving them. The urban edge joints playing “Feelin Myself” and “It’s Your Birthday” have had me grinding up women on the walls and also I find my self slotting these tracks into DJ sets and NO I can’t believe it. Playing Will I am is as good as playing YMCA because he is the biggest cheeseball the industry has ever seen but some cheese you can’t deny the great taste of and yes Will does know how to give us likeable cheese ha!

He is the man to be fair, he is what you call a true music producer, I don’t know any song that Will has had that has failed to make the top ten. He is a genius, and a philanthropist which is why we’ve given him the cover story this month. Read all about him in the Centre! Stop reading me and get reading the mag! Mark Dwayne MDG

NY FESTIVAL SPOT

New Yorker Fresh Island Festival T he first day of New Yorker Fresh Island Festival started with a bang.

sold, with hip hop fans ordering a new one every 30 seconds in the VIP area.

Known for his signature glasses which he never takes off, the US rapper who brought hip hop back to Miami, Rick Ross was so amazed by the, in his own words, ‘crazy crowd’, and support in the club Papaya, that at one point he took them off.

And over at the Adria Dance Camp’s headquarters, the dance hype was growing each minute. Dancers enjoyed the dynamic atmosphere from the dancehall diva Ika Bernardis, who was greeted with her last year’s choreography.

His concert at New Yorker Fresh Island Festival was his first visit to Croatia, where he intends to come back for private visit. Along with Rozay’s concert, Papaya was heated up with the DJ set by BBC’s legendary presenter and DJ, Tim Westwood. European’s hip hop most influential figure and pioneer of the british scene, Westwood hosted Radio 1’s and 1Xtra’s shows for almost 20 years, which resulted in an overbooked schedule. Even so, he couldn’t resist New Yorker Fresh Island Festival’s invitation where he’ll enjoy himself until the very last day. The evidence of the amazing atmosphere was the record number of champagne bottles

Rihanna’s dancer Koharu delighted the participants with her wicked moves and her heartiness, while Jaja Vankova and Tight Eyez taught Croatia the cult street style dance k.r.u.m.p. After the classes, the choreographers and dancers proved that they live the lifestyle with a crew vs. crew battle that got Novalja’s seafront moving. Their love for hip hop was obvious even later in Papaya and Aquarius where the dancers spontaneously grooved forming big circles in the crowd. Adria Dance Camp goes on until Saturday with lectures on hip hop’s culture, showings of cult dance movies and choreographer’s showcases. Pusha T did not play in Aquarius due to unforeseen circumstances.

Busta Rhymes O

k he is label-less now again and hiphop heads are wondering where does he go from here? First he was dropped from Virgin then moved to Shady aftermath and now recently parted company with Cash Money. He says there is no bad blood and that they parted like businessmen. This has been the case a few times with Busta, word is labels are not prepared to be risky with the music he puts out there which is hardcore hip-hop .

COVER STORY

Busta is definitely an artist that keeps the essence of hip hop alive and maybe the independent route is calling him.

executed in the way I’m envisioning this sh– for the last five years, let me live and die in my own inequity.”

If he wants to put out the music he feels his fans want to hear, then he should maybe invest in himself but we all know the game isn’t that straight forward.

Busta has a new single featuring Eminem titled Calm Down which has no chorus.

Busta is now ready to release his 10th album Extinction Level Event 2 following the huge success of his first debut in the 90’s On Sways radio show Busta Rhymes was speaking on his departure with the huge Cash Money records.

It doesn’t feel like a song, it’s just a hiphop freestyle. Will this work?? If we’re looking for profit and record sales maybe not, but in terms of art it’s a masterpiece and great to hear today. We must realise there is a major difference between songs and freestyling and should freestyling be released as singles??

“I was there for two years and the opportunity was a great opportunity at the time, because of the type of deal that was done,” Busta explained. “For me, with this particular project and all of the sacrifice that went into it — recording the album for five years, I [lost] Chris Lighty making this album, I [lost] my father making this album — the sh– I was putting into this album, I’m not compromising my vision for it.”

Lets not deny Busta Rhymes is a major influence in hip-hop culture he is arguably the most skilled MC in the game and as a performer you cant get much better.

“So if I feel like if, in the slightest way, we ain’t facilitating everything necessary for the vision to be seen and

Busta Rhymes we salute you signed or unsigned!

Maybe being an underground act could work for him and probably give him the artistic freedom; but are these big stars prepared to step down from the media attention they are used to ?

P

iOS VERSION

W

ith the recent impressive performances of 2D and 3D 8-bit inspired games across all platforms, it was no surprise that one of the most popular games of the 90’s - the skateboard simulator - has made it’s way to the 8-bit arena. OlliOlli is a PC port of a PS-Vita game that was first seen at the start of this year, and is being ported to PS3, PS4, Mac OS and Linux in the near future. As a 2D side scrolling 8-bit skater, OlliOlli is so much more than that one sentence can explain. The colours, backgrounds, and level design of this fast paced game really come into their own, never affected by motion blur, and always crisp and interesting. Controls are simple on their own, but devilishly difficult to combine together. Ideally played with a controller, with spins separate to grind and grab moves with swings of analogue sticks,

you’ll find it relatively easy to combo your way through a level, but to reach those higher scores will take a lot more practice and finger coordination. Taking a few pages from the infinity runner book, OlliOlli has that instant retry button waiting for the almost inevitable fail and bail, but with the excitement and speed that you fly through the levels once you start properly chaining your moves together into a large combo, you’ll be happy to go back again and again. Taking the inspiration from Tony Hawks Pro Skater and Skate, chaining combos together through different grinds, the key to winning in OlliOlli is landing your tricks. Perfectly landing every trick is the difference between a tiny score, and a monster score. Costing £9.99 on Steam at the moment, you’ll quickly find yourself saying “Just one more run” as you see your skater fly across the screen after missing a landing.

GADGETS & GAMING

orted from Playstation, through PC and now iOS, Urban Trial Freestyle has been around the block when it comes to platforms. The latest offering enables players to take to routes across a whole city including underground lines and construction sites. While the controls are not as slick and precise as its console and PC counterparts, it manages to hold it together for the majority of the time, with only a few minor niggles here and there to detract from the gameplay. Players have the option of on screen controls or tilt controls, but neither really relieve the frustration of the other. The other thing that has taken a hit has been the graphics. At first look they are pretty impressive for an iOS game, but on closer and continued inspection while playing, you’ll notice things aren’t quite as beautiful as

first thought. With over 40 tracks in 5 different environments, and a fully functional level editor built in, alongside 3 different game modes (Stunt, Time Attack and Challenges), UTF really packs a lot in for your money. Challenges are the bit that will have you replaying this game, trying to get the highest, furthest and biggest scores to retain bragging rights! While it may be tricky with the controls to attain the higher scores, especially in the later levels, there is a lot of game that is easily accessible and fun to play through. Currently sitting at £1.49 on the App Store, UTF is great value for money and will have you retrying stages with your upgraded bikes to try to beat your high scores, and those of your friends too!

Rise Against O2 Academy, Birmingham 6 November 2014

Coming Soon

ISE AGAINST have announced a world tour in support of their forthcoming new album The Black Market. RISE AGAINST will head overseas beginning on November 3rd with Pennywise and Emily’s Army supporting all European dates. The band’s new album The Black Market is also available for pre-order now. All fans who purchase the album on iTunes will receive the band’s current single “I Don’t Want To Be Here Anymore” along

with the brand new track “The Eco-Terrorist In Me” immediately. “It’s a pretty simple and visceral escapist sentiment,” commented Tim Mcllath. “It’s about not wanting to be in a place, physically or mentally. It’s something most of us have said to ourselves, if not aloud, at some point in our lives. Whether you feel you are being exploited or ignored or you can just imagine a better place, it’s about longing for that place and finally admitting to yourself that you aren’t content with you current situation.

But it doesn’t have the answer either. It’s just the first step.” After 15 years, and six incendiary albums, RISE AGAINST have become one of the most successful, challenging and revered punk rock bands on the planet. RISE AGAINST have sold four million albums globally across their last four releases – with 2011’s Endgame debuting at number one in Germany and Canada, and number two on the U.S. Billboard album chart.

WHITE DEE’S COLUMN

‘White Dee’s’ Column

umn, after a few very hard stressful weeks of no sleep, constant tantrums, screaming around the house, teenage hissy fits, Caitlin has finally finished her GCSE’s. I cant remember me being like that when i took my exams (a few years ago haha) but no doubt I was.

Hey Guys and Gals! Well im still hanging on in there and still trying to get used to all this hustle and bustle that’s surrounding me and the family, not too sure if I ever will though - but I’m gonna surf this wave and see where it takes me. Had a great day on Sunday at Planet Ice Coventry, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Charity - oh my days, haven’t been ice skating since I was about 14 years old and really didn’t hold much hope that I would actually stay standing upright - but I did, yay me.

my friends and a lot of people presume we live on take outs and junk food, not in my house. My kids have been brought up on fresh fruit and veg since they were babies, and thats mainly thanks to daddy dearest and his 4 allotments. One take out a week at a push for my gang. This experience was a million miles away from cooking at home,

watched eagerly by a french chef, as I prepared the veg and gutted the fish, yep I definitely like to get my hands in there when cooking. I must say even though I felt the pressure, I can stand the heat and will stay in the kitchen, dinner was served and they whooped it off, so I can safely say the French enjoyed my home made fish stew.

So congratulations to everyone out there who have finished their exams and studied hard, and await their results in August. I bet every woman out there with a child in Year 11 cannot believe their babies have grown up way to fast and have now officially left school. I wish you all the best for the future. Much love and until next time take care Dee

Just before I sign off another col-

Took Gerrard with me and for someone who has never been ice skating in his life, he took off like an Olympic speed skater. Met some amazing people, we took part in an ice skating lesson, met some of the characters from Disney’s Frozen and above all made some well needed money for such a good cause. On another completely different end of the scale, I was invited to France to cook for a 80th Birthday party in a little bistro, called Chez Maebro in a small very beautiful village. A lot has been said about me and

o we’re halfway through the year! It’s sunny, warm if not HOT, brighter for longer, and

I’m 32!

I get very reflective at this time of year then mad myself for not BEING where I SHOULD be! Let me tell you something ‘SHOULD’ is a demand! If someone was to tell me that I ‘should’ do this and I ‘should’ do that I would ctrl+alt+delete them but as I can’t and won’t do that to myself I’ll just refrain from ‘should-ing’ myself and be PROUD of my achievements so far.

Don’t put demands on yourself that you are going to punish yourself for as you have not achieved them especially if you have achieved other things. I f however you have been ‘slouching’ it out and doing nowt then you to need to FIX UP! Being halfway through the year can be daunting for some as the thoughts of Christmas and spending A LOT of money rears its ugly head but why is it ugly?

is it simply all spending?

LOVE for a partner is so different it’s un-describable and different for everyone but it is an extremely powerful emotion. LUST is all physical and temporary but those feelings often get misconstrued for love.
