he Wanted singer Max George and Towie star Lucy Mecklenburgh were found ‘getting cosy’ after Max’s and the rest of the Wanted boys performance at London G-A-Y club this week. After the band finished performing they went to the V.I.P section and were followed by Lucy and her friend because Max invited them to come along earlier during the week. In the V.I.P section the pair were found cuddling and kissing and constantly flirting. They arrived at the club on 3:00 am and were founding leaving the club together; the only time the pair were separated was when they were signing and taking pictures with their fans. Lucy’s friend said Lucy isn’t ready to date because it is early days; she does like Max however she isn’t going to jump into anything serious so soon. Lucy recently split up with her fellow Towie boyfriend Mario Falcone earlier this year.

ulisa Contostavlos recently went through a tough time with the media, getting accused of drug dealing, her sex tape controversy and getting arrested. So its not very surprising that she decided to stay away from the spotlight for a while, but now she has come back looking different. She looks more polished and slimmer, with longer, lighter locks. To show people she is happy with her slim figure Tulisa went out with a crop top and low-slung jeans to shop for her holiday.

Sadly the magazine is still waiting for North’s parents to accept the offer. Poor Kim was left to look after baby North all by herself meanwhile daddy Kanye went to the BET after show without her. The BET Awards after show was full of well known celebrates and seductive women, no wonder why Kanye went to the after show without Kim Kardashian. Cory recently checked into a rehab clinic for substance addiction; however this is not his first time in rehab, at the age of 19 he received his first treatment and since then he talked about his addiction struggles openly. His Glee and real-life girlfriend told the magazine that she loved and supported him; she was ever proud that he was seeking help. Everybody that knew him paid their respects to the actor and wish his family and friends the best, a lot of the people that knew him could not believe that he was gone and commented on how much of a lovely genuine man he was.

David Haye vs Tyson Fury
A
fter speculations of will they, wont they, it’s announced that former heavyweight champion David Haye is set to face off with the undefeated in 21 fights Tyson Fury. I feel it’s going to maintain everything a pay per view event needs. It contains the arrogance of both fighters in a stand off to prove which one deserves the right to say I’m the best. It’ll be interesting to witness considering Tyson Fury as much as I admire his work in the ring he hasn’t been put through his paces. David Haye will make him work and sweat. I saw a completely different fighter when I seen Haye defeat Dereck Chisora. I believe David Haye has the speed and even more
16
power than before. Without a question of doubt this is going to be one of the most talked about boxing events for many years to come. As much as Tyson Fury should be respected for his ability to stay undefeated in 21 fights, you’ve got to be realistic now David Haye will not only at last him with having better stamina having being able to go the full 12 rounds. Unfortunately I don’t feel I can say the same for Fury. I’d go for a round 6 knock out by Haye. Catch the fight yourself on September 21st at the Manchester Arena. Or on Sky Box Office. It’s definitely one not to miss.

STREET CRED INTERVIEW
TYLER N STEVIE
Talking to us at the end of their promo tour of the UK, including performances in Blackpool, Warwick and at Astonbury, Tyler N Stevie tell us about their movie star counterparts, possible collaboration targets, and the differences between the UK and US industry.
IF THERE WAS MOVIE CREATED ABOUT YOURSELFS WHO WOULD YOU WANT TO PLAY YOU? Stevie - Barack Obama – because why not he’s Barack Obama; he’s the best person to play me in a movie nevertheless. Tyler - James Franco – because he’s friggin awesome.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO WRITE MUSIC? Tyler - Life Experiences. Situations I’ve been through in my life help create a story for when writing the music I write. It helps me kind of paint a story and help with writing a song.
WHAT ARTISTS OUT THERE AT THE MOMENT WOULD LIKE TO CREATE MUSIC WITH IN THE UK MUSIC INDUSTRY? Tyler - There is a lot of artists out there that we wouldn’t mind making music with to be honest. Like for me I wouldn’t be apart of a Rudiemental track. Or featuring with John newman on a track because them both are doing great for the UK industry at the moment. Stevie - For me probably Wretch 32 because I like his rhyme and his flow. It’ll be wretch 32 and proabably someone like Olly Murs.
WHAT ARE WE TO EXPECT TO HEAR FROM YOU IN THE PIPELINE? Tyler - We have a 4 song ep coming out, with a completely different styles. Hopefully lot more shows and live performances.
19
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY YOUR INSPIRATION WAS BEHIND YOUR RECENT SINGLE “REPLAY”? Break ups. We wanted to do something differently that’s already done from previous break up songs etc, yet saying that this isn’t nothing like our newer stuff it was just recorded that and put it out to make people know what we are capable of, thankfully people like it. WHERE DO YOU SEE YOUR CAREER HEADING WITHIN THE NEXT 12 MONTHS? Both - Hopefully with determination straight to the top and not stopping until we reach the very top. WHAT WAS THE MESSAGE YOU WAS GET OUT FROM YOUR SINGLE REPLAY? Tyler -There wasn’t really a message really, it was a uplifting breakup song, yet it’s not the type of music we normally do it was just a single to get our music heard but specifically there was a true fact what it was about.
20
YOUR STYLE REMINDS ME A LOT OF UK ARTISTS RIZZLE KICKS, WOULD YOU EVER CONSIDER MAKING MUSIC WITH THAT DYNAMIC DUO? Tyler - Yeah definitely, We wouldn’t mind making music with them as they seem great guys and make real cool music. WOULD YOU SAY THE MUSIC INDUSTRY IS DIFFERENT IN AMERICA THAN IT IS IN THE UK? Tyler - Yeah that the music is different but the music differs I don’t know what it is I can’t seem to put my finger on it. But for some reason I can’t seem to put my finger on it and have a reason for it. All I know that the music differs in the states. WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE ATTEMPTING TO BREAK INTO THE MUSIC INDUSTRY? Tyler - Be yourself, don’t give up because a year a go we wouldn’t of been here now look at us now no one heard of us yet now we are doing interviews, performances etc so I say don’t give up on your dream if you’re so passionate about it.

We went out into Birmingham, to the Bullring, Pigeon Park, Aston University, and the Pallasades to take pictures of all the new and unique trends that the people of Birmingham are wearing today. Being out with the public was a very interesting experience. There were a few outfits really stood out for me like these ones below.
E L Y T S T E E R T S This is yet another style that caught my eye; it’s so old school yet so modern. I love how she’s wearing different colours yet all of them seem to be working very well together. I think the reason why she pulled this look of very well is because she had confidence in herself and what she wears. The message here is wear your clothes in confidence and you can pull off any look. Me personally I wouldn’t wear it because it wouldn’t suit me but other girls can pull it off. The fact that she wore long trousers with a short cropped top shows that she isn’t afraid to show off the right amount of flesh. The reason why this one stood out from the rest is because you don’t really get to see this look very often; I think she was trying to mix the old with the new and create her very own modified style. I really love how simple yet different it looks. I like how she combined the gold chained necklace and glasses with the rest of the outfit. She has so many different colours on yet they all work together. However she wasn’t from Birmingham; she was actually from Manchester, she came to show Birmingham how to dress unique and still pull it off.
Again this is so simple yet so summery. The guy was actually wearing his work uniform; going out with your work uniform is the look right now. The girl didn’t really wear a lot, she’s got American flag print shorts, top and knee socks showing that sometimes less is more, I mean its summer you don’t have to put much on for this kind of weather!
This pair have got to be my favourite by far I mean their dress sense is so summery and simple. Just wearing whatever feels comfortable works so well, especially in this weather! This is one of the outfits that I can see myself wearing because the simple things in life always turn out to be the most perfectly organised.
As you can see Sanjeta’s gone for a white with pattern dress, simple yet elegant; dresses don’t have to be tight & figure hugging, they can be knee length and comfortable yet stylish.
The look from these two lads I find very interesting because it looks like a combination of the American skater boy look mixed with your normal British boy. I really love the fact that they didn’t have to think about the look too much just put it on and go out and yet it looks like an outfit that would have took time to combine. In a way you can see the guy on the left going more for the American look and the one on the right going more towards your typical British boy, their choice of clothes and colour really makes both the outfits work together.

BEYONCé HOT FOR SUMMER
H
&M & Beyoncé collaborated to explore the different emotions of women presented by the four elements fire, water, earth and wind. For me it’s a unique approach especially having it for high street fashion. It was a clever way to have nice wearing clothing without needing to pay too much for them. Beyoncé has stated that they shot the advertisement on a tropical island, and after seeing the advertisement myself it makes it look incredible. The production behind the advert did an impressive job as it just looks like a music video rather than a commercial. I suppose it was their way of getting Beyoncé at her most comfortable state. The collection is out now at H&M.

OH BOY ATTIRE
O
h Boy Attire clothing is a new independent clothing company based within the heart of Cornwall. The company was established by one man, Freddie Jackson-Gali, who is currently on a gap year from Bristol College where he is studying an FDA in Graphic Design.
what went with it. You have a variety of musicians and events promoting themselves within and around independent clothing brands. I feel that he has found a gap in the market with the design ideas he has created and the entire brand has been a great idea to follow with.
Freddie thought of the idea of creating ‘Oh Boy Attire Clothing’ as he wanted to do something that would contribute towards his design career. After heavily researching the market Freddie soon found himself indulged by the whole “Street Clothing” scene and
Having a unique design style to their clothing makes them stand out from other existing clothing brands that are out there at the moment. Oh Boy Attire has the qualities of an excellent clothing brand. Definitely clothing that young adults would want to be seen wearing, especially the beanies they produce. Oh Boy Attire are an independent clothing brand and are beginning to find love around the UK with their individual unique styles that are admired by all shapes and sizes. Freddie Jackson has been set on getting as many collaborations out for his first year as possible as he love’s working with other designers and musicians to create a design for thee fans of both the individuals and OBA’s fans. Oh Boy Attire clothing’s most recent collaboration is with Toke. a great clothing company with a large following. As for previous collaborations they have worked with well known EDM producer Pogman where OBA released a T-shirt for his 2013 tours which went down a treat over in America. Up and coming collaborations are there but unfortunately they’re remaining secrets for now. Freddie doesn’t want to reveal too much about upcoming designs he’s creating as they’re so unique and different.
The idea behind OBA was to combine illustration, block colour and well mannered typography that has taken inspiration from Japanese design & culture. Freddie set out to use high quality clothing and ink for the printing to give OBA’s designs a sleek, clean cut finish. He wanted the brand to be something different than that of just basic type with no real visual pleasure. Freddie set out to create a logo for the brand that would be seen and stand out from the rest, he believes this to be a very important step in starting a brand. The brand started with only 25 T-shirts which was a bit of a gamble. Freddie had faith though as he believed his first T-shirt (the Logo T-shirt) had a strong, likeable design. From there on Freddie designed more T-shirts and a sweatshirt that matched OBA’s criteria for the collection, this slowly built his audience and gained OBA a small following.

BIGSCREEN WORDS by Tom cotter
PREVIEW he final instalment in the ‘Cornetto Trilogy’ comes out this month and sees Simon Pegg and Nick Frost unite together on screen once again.
It stars a myriad of British acting talent including the likes of Rosamund Pike, Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine and Eddie Marsan and very much like its successors looks to have a very English feel to it. That was always going to happen with it being based around the English Pub Crawl though!
Written by Pegg and long-time writing partner Edgar Wright, who also directs the film, it tells the story of a group of friends reattempting an epic pub crawl but which appears to becomes thwarted after an alien invasion. It appears to be in a similar vein to the previous smash hits in the series ‘Shaun of the Dead’ and
Pegg, Frost and the other men play a group of childhood friends who reunite after twenty years to repeat a legendary pub crawl from their youth which they originally failed to complete. Returning to their home town they vow to complete the crawl and reach ‘The Worlds End’ pub but during the night they realise that not all is correct in their old home

as an alien invasion sets to ruin their night once again. Not willing to let this stop them though, Pegg rallies up the other guys in a quest to save humanity whilst finishing the pub crawl for good. From the trailer it seems they are taking in good humour that the actors and their characters are older than those they have played in previous films. They have a typical middle aged style of
comedy to them and I think this could be something that adds a very real and special element to the movie. I have thoroughly enjoyed each film in this franchise, and the duo’s other film ‘Paul’ was also a huge success and therefore I can see this being a hilarious film to watch. Only time will tell if it is as successful as the others but either way I very much look forward to seeing it once it arrives. JUly 19th
Side Effects will be released on DVD at the end of July. The film with an all star cast features the likes of Jude Law, Rooney Mara, Channing Tatum and Catherine ZetaJones in this psychological thriller. Mara is absolutely fantastic as a troubled and depressed wife to a man (Tatum) recently released from Prison. After being put on pills to help this by her psychologist (Law) she ends up commiting the murder of her husband. Now, that may sound like I’ve just given the whole plot away but in reality I haven’t at all. The plot twists and turns and throws up countless surprises that keep you hooked throughout. It’s a film many people may have missed out on when it was releases to make sure you don’t miss out on it this time. Be prepared for the revelation at the end as well. Not to be missed!

This then leads other stars into the frame as Mark Ruffalo’s FBI agent is called in to investigate the theft but struggles to pin anything on them without putting the explanation as magic.
Ruffalo then meets the one and only Morgan Freeman, who is an ex magician revealing the secrets behind other acts tricks, to try and help him decipher what has happened. If all those stars weren’t enough the whole ‘Four Horsemen’ show is funded by British legend Michael Caine! With so much acting talent on show it is a very exciting film that looks sure to be a summer blockbuster. Already out in the United States it has received mixed reviews with some people absolutely loving it with others claiming it falls a bit flat. Obviously until I watch and review it I can’t give my personal opinion but I have a positive feeling about this one. It has been highly praised for its acting talent and storyline though so two major parts of the film have been a hit regardless. From the trailer is looks a lot more exciting than other bank heist films like the Ocean’s 11 series as the magical element is incorporated and even in the trailer you’re watching it and thinking wow. Visually it looks set to be stunning and I think it is definitely a film to take a risk with at the cinema. July 3rd

STREET CRED INTERVIEW
MARC ZAMMIT FIRSTLY, FOR OUR READERS SAKE TELL ME A LITTLE BACK GROUND INFORMATION ON YOU? Well I was raised in Bethnal Green, I’ve always been known as the cheeky, funny type around the area when I was younger, pretty much done every job under the sun, from fixing cars, stacking hair shampoo, waiter at a bar, telesales you name it I’ve probably done it. But being an actor, obviously you need to put your food on your plate when times go quiet. Since I got into to TV and film things have just started building up. And yeah I haven’t needed to stack hair shampoo since basically, thank god ha! YOU’VE GOT A LOT OF STUFF UPCOMING IN PIPELINE WHAT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED FOR EVERYONE TO SEE? At the minute I’m producing my first feature film with my business partner Jamie Mcleod-Ross, which is pretty cool. The film is called First to Thirty and that’s our baby. And that’s a romantic comedy. So 100% that! I’m also looking forward to Life Outside because I got announced to play a character that’s pretty cool which is a great script, great cast the director Martin Jay Thomas is such a great guy as well. Built a good relationship with him, so obviously me and Jamie would be working a lot with him. And for people to see the film because I know it’s going to be a great film. HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN ACTING FOR? I’ve been acting for about... ah makes me feel old saying this ha, but around 11 years now I think it’s 11-12 years.
WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO PURSUE A CAREER AS AN ACTOR? Well I started doing a monologue of Macbeth ever since I was born because of my mother, nah I’m only joking haha. I was always keen to entertain people from the age of 6 I always wanted to be an actor and be on TV. Because I loved the films. I will always remember saying to my mom because the news was on, and they was speaking about someone who had recently passed on. And I said to her “Do I have to die to go on TV?” And my mom was like “No don’t be silly!”, amd my parents kind of described me how the system works and how to be an actor and how to get into TV and what it’s all about. Then I just kind of perused it from there. WHAT INSPIRES YOU BE THE TYPE OF ACTOR YOU ARE? Tom Hanks because obviously he’s one of my all time favourite actors but just in general I’m a film geek I will sit there and watch films like there is no
The Poster for Marc’s feature film First to Thirty
YOU MENTIONED YOU’RE CREATING YOUR OWN FEATURE FILM, WHAT WAS THE WHOLE STORY BEING THAT? My mate who is also an actor, basically called me and he said “Marc we’ve got a lot of contacts, we know a lot of people in the industry, we’ve been in it for quite a long time.” And he said to me “Why don’t we make our own film?” First it started off as a short film straight away I was like yeah sure why not. And then it kind of built up from there. Then it just turned into a feature film. It’s just like a snow ball when you roll a snow ball down the hill and everything just builds up and builds up until eventually you’ve got this big snow ball that you didn’t expect you would get. We just kind of grew a lot of interest into the film and got a lot of plans into it. What was the whole concept you went for in the end? Well it’s basically, it’s sounds weird me saying it but the best way to put it, as I can’t say too much. It’s a romantic comedy about two guys, they are both completely different characters from each other. And the best way to put it it’s like American Pie/Superbad/The Hangover/ This is War, you know it’s got a whole lot of energy in the film. But it’s just full on funny. Like you’ll WORDS by Liam o’leary just be on the edge of your seat. We’re currently doing a re-write with a big tomorrow. Study them, just love them great films writer and director so that should be pretty cool. with great actors.
E V I S U L EXC
IF YOU HAD A MOVIE CREATED ABOUT YOUR LIFE, WHO WOULD YOU WANT TO PLAY YOU AND WHY? I would say.. that’s a hard one. I would say Ryan Gosling, but me as in my mid 20’s only because I seen his film recently ‘The Place Beyond The Pines’ I thought he was wicked in that. A young version of me I would say Jacob Lofland, because he was good in the movie Mud that’s one of the new films that’s just come out. And as an older version of me Tom Hanks just because he’s like my favourite actor of all time ha. So yeah pretty much him.
IF YOU COULD GO OUT WITH ANY CELEBRITY OUT THERE WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY? I love this question ha. Well I do have my list, but I would say I love Mila, Mila Kunis is like really beautiful, just stunning. But unfortunately she’s going out with Ashton Kutcher and I think Aston Kutcher is a bit better looking than me. So I don’t feel I can step up to his game, ha. I’ll probably say Jennifer Anniston she’s like really hot. But she’s obviously older than me but I don’t mind being a gentleman, but I will say if it was in my age range I’d say Jennifer Lawrence, she’s a beautiful girl and right on my type.
17
WHERE DO YOU SEE YOUR CAREER HEADING WITHIN THE NEXT 12 MONTHS? You see 12 months is not a long time in the industry believe it or not, because sometimes the process of making a film takes a long time for example, with Pirates of the South I got announced to be in it four months ago. And I’ll probably film in about three months. But I suppose I would say to complete First to Thirty because that’s the one thing I really want to get done and a few other projects that I’m currently filming. Hopefully to be announced to be a part of a big motion picture as a main lead. That would be pretty cool. I’m also sorting out my Visa to move out to LA as there has been interest in me out there. So I suppose it would be a good start of my journey for my career. So hopefully be moving out there, in the sunshine 24/7 ha. AND FINALLY WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE ATTEMPTING TO BECOME AN ACTOR THEMSELVES? If your going to become an actor you really have to know what you’re signing up for, because it’s hard and it’s a big competition it’s a big game. And the obvious thing I’d say to you is if you are willing to do it go for it, never give up, don’t let people tell you what
Marc on set for Eva Diamonds
you can’t do, and show them what you can. A director friend once said to me “Help those on the way up, Because you never know who you might need on the way down” So you know don’t be afraid to help people even if you feel you have nothing to offer. Because at the end of the day it will show you’re willing to scratch their back. Just be motivated really do what you can, ask people who are experienced for little hints and guidance with what to do and what to avoid.

HAYLEY Newton
Dancer Hayley Newton Discusses her career and ofers fitness advice
S
o Hayley, can you tell me a little background information about yourself and what it is you do?
I have been a professional dancer and performer for over 15 years, working in London’s West End Theatres, doing shows such as ‘Chicago.’ I loved dancing on tour with artists such as Take That
and Cliff Richard, but most recently my passion has been choreographing and fitness. I am also extremely active with the students at Italia Conti Arts Centre where I am the Artistic Director. I love encouraging new talent and believe that, with my background, I am able to make my classes more fun by incorporating dance based moves that keep the mind stimulated as they are more challenging.
Health & Fitness
Where did the passion for dance first begin?
Even though my Mum and Dad were both dancers and I enjoyed watching them perform, my passion for dance began when I sat and watched Arlene Phillips ‘Starlight Express’ in the West End. It was very magical and I was dying to one day become Pearl. Every little girls dream ;) What would you say has been your biggest achievement?
I am very lucky to say that I feel I have achieved many things in my career that I am proud of but, out of all the jobs, I think I’m most proud of the moment when I moved to LA, where I had no support system. I turned up in Hollywood and stood at the back of every audition line and finally got a job. From there it snowballed where I ended up choreographing a burlesque show by night and filming fitness DVDS by day. It was exciting and proves if you focus you can really achieve anything. What sort of fitness techniques do you do?
My fitness regime is very danced based. High energy levels and lots of fun. I try not to do the same thing every class so a) my clients don’t get bored and b) you don’t want your muscles growing too accustomed to the same exercise. Change is good. It keeps your body and your mind on the ball. How did you fall into the profession or was it always something you wanted to do?
I fell into the fitness craze in LA. As I said, I was choreographing out there, and happened to walk into a casting where they were looking for some girls to workout with Celebrity Trainer Jillian Michaels on her upcoming DVD. I’ve always been quite fit through dance and so I began picking up her work. I got the job and BOOM... I got the bug. What advice would you give to someone thinking about taking up pole dancing?
Do it, do it, do it! It’s great to workout, it’s great to socialize and it’s fun. The 3 most important things in life. I particularly like pole dancing lessons because even though you’re working out, you are learning a new skill and hobby. It really gets the mind off thinking “urghh... I have to go to the gym”. If you do a pole class you definitely DON’T have to work out that day! You’ve worked with some big celebrity names. Who would you say has been the best to work with?
Kelly Osbourne and Take That. They were the most personable celebrities. Very friendly and caring towards everybody they encountered. I haven’t a negative thing about any of them. Lovely, lovely people. What is the one thing that inspires you in life?
When I was younger, it was my career, but now I’m older it’s definitely my family. From living away in LA, I realise that I love a home family life. I don’t want to miss any pleasures or fun with them and it’s key to go out and experience the birthdays/holidays and events with them as much as I can. Life is short! WORDS by Liam o’leary

Elisa Do Brasil 1) Firstly tell me some background information about yourself for our readers to learn more about you what it is that you do? I’m a French DnB DJ born in Brazil. I started in illegal rave parties with a sound system called ‘troubles fête’, we used to do big raves. In 1999 I played at a festival called Astropilis, one of the early French electro-rave festivals; that was my first gig ever apart from our raves. I also became resident DJ and promoter of the MASSIVE parties at Rex Club. That was one of the major DnB nights in Paris at the time. I’ve done that for 12 years and decided to stop to spend more time
WORDS by Liam o’leary
in the studio and with my kids. In the meantime I’ve been doing all the festivals, concert venues, raves, clubs in France and travelled in a few countries. I released 2 mix CDs called Massive, one of them was also a DVD filmed at Rex Club during one of the Massive parties. Apparently the CDs were very influential for a lot of people that still listen to them more than 10 years later. I released - My first album in 2009, First Stroke [X-Ray Production] - A track on my favourite UK label, Viper, “Infatuation” on Drum & Bass Summer Slammers 2011 - My second album Rolling the Dice in 2012. 2) When did you first discover a passion for Drum & Bass music? I discovered jungle in 1996. At the time I was in high school, so under 18. I hated all kinds of electronic music. My best friend Pauline forced me one night to go to Rex Club where there was a jungle party, Gilbert’s party who was at the time a French jungle DJ (he is now a house DJ). That was a revelation for me, I didn’t leave the dancefloor. One of the security guys finally realised we were not 18 so we could never go back there, each time we tried he would recognise us. So I started getting involved in illegal raves, trying to play my DnB, which was really hard with the crew. I came back to Rex Club 3 years after as a resident. Kind of wicked :)

3) Your music is incredible. Off your latest album ‘Rolling the dice’ what was your favourite single? “Infatuation” ‘cause it means a lot to me, ‘cause it was released on my favourite label (Viper) before being released as part of the album and ‘cause the track really looks like me and like the music I’ve been playing since ever. Miss Trouble, my MC partner sings on it, it’s our track; people really get crazy when we play it. 4) Would you ever go on tour to the UK? I unfortunately haven’t played in the UK yet… I’m more than up for it though... Would you take me touring there? hahahaha 5) What inspires you to create the music you create? Whatever happens in my life inspires me. Rolling the Dice tells the story of two years of my life. 6) What artist from the UK Music industry would you love to create music with? A lot of them. I’m a big fan of the Viper and Hospital crews, the Funkatech crew I’ve been working with in Rolling the Dice. I also love grime so would love to make music featuring them, we recently had P Money in our parties, would love to collaborate on a track with him in my next album... P if you read this ... :) 7) What made you want to pursue a career in music? It’s not as if I had a choice... :) I started touring and promoting parties when I was still in high school and university. It simply came to me. I quit university ‘cause I was into that, it’s simply my life and my passion, I don’t know anything else.
8) How would you describe yourself to being different from other artists that are out there at the moment? I’m simply passionate. It’s my life, my music tells about myself, the good and the bad. 9) How did you get to where you are today musically? I was very lucky at the beginning then I started working hard. It’s a long road, made of doubts, fears, deceptions and happy moments. I keep believing and working when things are not so easy anymore, enjoy the good times, try to keep on having a vision of the future, have a team around me. I travel in different musical horizons. 10) What’s been your biggest achievement regarding your music career? I would say Massive at Rex Club, 12 years of DnB parties and my two albums. I’ve created a beautiful live show that I’m very proud of too. 11) Where do you see your career within the next 12 months and what have you got upcoming in the pipeline? Things will get more serious, because I’m working hard. I have a few gigs abroad and I hope more will come. I’m working on my third album, which should be ready after summer and released a few months after that. I have a beautiful show with Miss Trouble, something I’ve been working on for the past 2 years, with a beautiful stage decor made by my friend Kroll and a student called Floy, as well as a wicked light engineer, Romain Vieillard. The show is amazing and will be even better once the album is ready. I’m also working with a surf brand, O’Neill; surf and music are important to me. And I have a project with a high school, teaching the kids how to promote, and listening to music together. 12) What advice would you give to someone trying to break into the music industry? Keep on working, it’s hard, you have amazing times and horrible ones. Just keep on believing, never give up if it’s the life you chose. And keep real :)

It is currently a concept car that the Dutch manufacturer put on show to the public recently at the Geneva Motor Show but will soon be available for purchase. Spyker have beeWn gaining a lot of recognition in recent years and have even made it onto the big screen with their ‘C8’ car being featured in the new movie ‘Fast and Furious 6’. The Spyker C8 is a beautiful car and they are following suit with this brand new concept which has been titled the B6 Venator. It is a dream car for

most and with Spykers usually having a price tag nearing £200,000 it is a car that most of us wont ever get the chance to experience. With a price such as this you are hitting the heights of your dominating manufacturers in the super car market with your Ferrari’s, Lamborghini’s and Porche’s being in a similar price range. This though does make the Spyker more unique, and therefore, much more desirable for someone who knows their stuff. It is a compact 2 door, mid engine sports car which exudes design, performance and exclu-
sivity. All the body work is beautifully crafted from carbon fibre and this is just the start of it’s stunning exterior. It continues its trademark V-shaped radiator grills on the dip in the bonnet and all lights are LED. The rear brake lights give the appearance of a glowing jet engine, like the afterburner on a fighter jet. It has an iris type appearance like that of an eye, staring deep inside. With the body being milled from carbon fibre and the chassis being an aluminium platform the car is lightweight and the allows the body to have smooth sweeping design lines. Having a mid mounted V6 engine gives the car a massive power output of 375 BHP through a 6 speed manual box. Due to it being in the concept stage still it isn’t known what specific engine this car will use but in previous cars the company have opted to use Audi engines with the C8 opting for the Audi R8 4.2 litre V8’s.

The design of the vehicles has made a significant step in evolution too as they shifted from propeller to turbine inspired design. The company is also registering record profits and showing themselves to be a force to be reckoned with.

time. The noise cancellation is brilliant, but even with it off the cancellation from the ear pads themselves was pretty impressive. Bluetooth connections worked flawlessly, and with the supplied wire, you can still use the headphones when the battery runs out. The battery is touted at 6 hours with everything enabled, 18 hours with only noise cancellation, and 24 hours standby. Although this may seem low, with everything Parrot have packed in to the Ziks, 6 hours is actually pretty reasonable. At about £300, the Parrot Ziks are on the high side price wise, but although you might find better noise cancelling headphones, or better audio quality for the same price, you won’t find a pair of headphones with this much technology, level of noise cancellation or audio quality as you can with the Ziks. If you’re in the market for such a high priced set of headphones, you could do much, much worse than these.
Under the luxurious mix of smooth aluminium, synthetic leather and soft-touch plastic, accented with designer Phillipe Starck’s trademark orange, lies a set of cans that pack quite a punch both in audio quality and technology. With noise cancelling, motion detection, jawbone sensor, bluetooth and NFC connections, as well as a touch sensitive pad on the right earcup, the Ziks contain more than enough gadgetry. Although weighty in the hand, the Ziks are very comfortable when you are wearing them, and prolonged use isn’t a pain. The audio quality of these headphones is comparable to any other product in it’s price range, especially once you have tweaked it with the free app available on both Android and iOS devices. The app itself controls the noice cancellation, equalizer, monitors the battery level and adjusts the ambience of the headphones via “Parrot Concert Hall”. I found the settings in the Concert Hall to actually detract from the sounds produced by the headphones, so I kept that setting off most of the

ESTELLE RUBIO
a Producer, singer, musician, tech head and teacher, estelle rubio does it all! Firstly, what it is you do exactly, for those who don’t know? I’m basically a music producer/ musician singer. I’m also a bit of a geek girl and a tech head and I love encouraging women to embrace technology and use it in their lives and in their works. As a music producer it’s a very male industry. I also lecture at a very cool place called tech music school which has a very good reputation for churning out good people. When did you first realise you had a passion with Jazz Music? Well jazz, any musician who works their salt has studied Jazz at some point. I used to be in a jazz duo with a guitarist playing all the jazz standards. I got to perform at Bastille in Paris and places in Amsterdam. I was singing everywhere, if you can sing jazz standards then you’re always employable. What’s been your biggest achievement? My biggest achievement, probably giving birth to my son. Staying true to my dreams in what I want to achieve is probably the biggest thing I’ve ever done. That’s a major achievement. It’s very hard to make a living in music so I’ve diversified and done music for TV and yoga DVDs.
What have you got planned for the future? This summer I have some dance tunes coming out through a label in Italy. I’m also hoping to get another deal soon. I had a record deal a few years ago and since then I’ve been trying to do it myself which is a lot harder than it sounds. Just trying to embrace the technology and doing it that way. I’d love to write more film music, I’m working on music for meditation too. Outer brainwave music with mad oscillations with register with your brain rate. What inspires you to do the music you do? Music is what brings people together. People celebrate life to music. I find notes and melodies to create that kind of unities. People use music as parts of congregation and people use that whether is a rave in Ibiza or a soap jam in Dorset or something. I have songs where I’ve sampled things like drills. I love to make things considered noise into a form of music. That gets back to the jazz thing. Loads of artists inspire me as well, I just love music.
Mr & Miss SC if you could say 3 words that would explain you perfectly what would it be? Girly Geek Utopian. I’m a bit of a paradox because I love things like vintage clothes but love all future things in technology. What’s it like to be married to Jack Branning from Eastenders? Haha. He’s Scott Maslen not Jack Branning. Occasionally he can be Jack Branning. We’ve been together 15 years so way before Eastenders. He’s like any man really. He’s great and it’s quite a mad experience for other people when for us it’s quite normal. When we leave the house we get followed by teenagers and housewives. If there is any particular artist you would love to create music with who would it be? Imogen Heap I think is amazing. I did TV show with the BBC, Dara O’Briains Science Club and they did a special show on music and technologies and I was interviewed for part of it about modern music. And she was performing one of her songs and she uses these gloves to trigger sounds on the music, shes very cutting edge. I love people like David Guetta as well, there is room for a massive female producer out there. WORDS by LIAM O’LEARY Getting quite dancey and clubby with my latest music inspired by those people. What do you hope to gain in the future from your music? You wrote the music for our last Keep on living and making a living from it. I’d be mad to say months Mr Street Cred “Jon Trevor” I didn’t hope I had a top 10 single or dance hit! Still pursuing Fitness DVD how was that for you? the dream really. I managed to get really fit and I still follow all his routines. He’s a very inspiring trainer to work with. MR STREET CRED PRESENTS
SIMON CHARLES hard work and dedication have pushed simon to where he is now, But what is next?
Simon, firstly tell us some background information about yourself. I am 18 years old living in Sutton Coldfield in Birmingham originally from Leamington Spa. I have supported Birmingham City FC the whole of my life throughout the high and lows. I have been playing football since the age of 7 playing for a local club around my area until I was 15 when I had moved on to better clubs to improve myself. How did you get to where you are today? I got where I am at this moment in time thanks to my family, friends and past/present coaches. Ever since I was young they would give me constructive criticism on my training and match performances and where I had done good and where I could improve. If it wasn’t for my step brother listing me up clubs to apply at then I probably would have given up. I thank everyone, you know who you are. When did you first release you had a major passion for football? I first realized I had passion for playing football when I was playing in a Sunday league football team when I was around 12-15 years old but never really had the motivation to exceed my
84
dream. I then joined West Bromwich Albion Futsal at the age of 17 and this really changed everything. Training 4 times a week and playing once every week really helped me develop and improve dramatically. That is when I believed in myself that I could make it into a “Semi Professional” status. What made you want to become a footballer? What made me want to be a footballer? Well that feeling of wearing a clubs badge and representing them in match days is one of the best feelings around. You’re not just representing yourself; you’re representing the fans that support that club
WORDS by LIAM O’LEARY
Mr & Miss SC What position do you play? I’m currently a Right back/center back as I have played there since my younger years, but I can cover the center midfield and wings. How do you manage to stay focused before a big game? I generally stay focused before a big game by putting on my headphones and listening to any upbeat music to get me hyped for the game. Just before I play I take deep breaths to remain calm and keep positive. Don’t think you have to make everyone proud, do it for yourself. How often do you train? I train every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. I also train by myself to improve my fitness levels etc.
Where do you see your career heading within the next 12 Months? In the next 12 months I hope to have taken a massive step in my career and try get into the reserves at Redditch United as I am currently in the Under21’s. This club tries to ensure players are kept in the age brackets. I hope to continue my development and progress through the ranks. With football being the main part in my life I will still be attending University to make sure I have a backup plan if anything falls through. Who inspires you to put on a football shirt and play? Who else could it be but David Beckham? He shows you what it truly means to wear the England kit with pride. His ability on the pitch inspires me to work harder as nothing is easy in life. You can’t forget about the people that have been there the whole of your life to support you, such as your family and friends. My family and friends have been a massive part in my progression as a player as they push me more and more each time with constructive criticism that I can work on and improve. If it weren’t for them I would never of overcome my knee injury which I picked up in December 2011 which kept me out of action for near enough a year with surgery on the cards and possibility of never playing at a high standard of football again.
What key elements would you say is important to keeping a balanced diet? Key elements of keeping a balanced diet are to have the motivation on keeping to the new diet. I did have a bad diet just eating junk food which really didn’t help my performance. Since I have begun to drink more water and have a much healthier diet I feel more aware with more energy to burn out whilst competing. As it’s so difficult to make it as a footballer, what advice would you to someone attempting to make it as a footballer at the moment? Train every minute of the day, if you aren’t training then somebody else is who could be taking your position as a semi or professional player. Believe in yourself is a major factor, tell yourself YOU can do it instead of thinking you can. There’s a difference talk to yourself in a mirror get yourself psyched. Most of all give your 110% it’s not easy, nothing in life is, you try harder every time and you will get somewhere. If you get knocked back by a club don’t worry, you should be even more determined to succeed as a footballer and prove all detractors wrong.
85
REGGAE OR NOT?
BIGA RANX
86
Firstly tell me some background information about yourself for our readers to learn more about you what it is that you do? Ok so I’m a reggae artist from Tours, in France. My name comes from French verlan, which is like a slang which inverses words... So I am called Gabriel, which shortens to Gabi and the verlan is Biga. My music is kind of a mix between reggae, ragga, dancehall and hip hop... I like to play with different styles!
was when I went to Jamaica when I was 18 that I realised my voice was a real talent and a gift that I should do something with. Tours is a little town but I was keen, so started going to every reggae night there was and taking the mic any time I could. At the start everyone would laugh at me when they saw me come up to the mic like ‘look at this kid trying to jam like us’ but they actually liked it, you know! It was the same in Jamaica, they’d say ‘Biga Ranx? You don’t look so big!’
When did you first discover a passion for reggae music? Well my family taught me a lot about music; my mum would always listen to classical music when I was young and my sister made me listen to Bob Marley and UB40 when I was 5 years old, that’s how I got hooked. My older brother who’s a DJ (Atili Bandalero) also taught me a lot. So I already had this passion for reggae but it
What’s been your biggest achievement regarding your career within music? Well obviously I am really proud to have brought out two albums ‘On Time’ and ‘Good Morning Midnight’ with my label X-Ray Production... Apart from that I am honoured to work with one of my reggae idols Joseph Cotton; we recorded a song called ‘Air France Anthem’ which now has something like a million views on YouTube, I wasn’t expecting a little
freestyle to get so big! He was the one who gave me the name ‘Ranx’ and helped me a lot to develop my style. And I can tell you this little anecdote, from when I was in Jamaica... one of the biggest Jamaican reggae artists who I was with told me one night ‘you sound like us’, that meant a lot to me. How would you describe yourself to be different from other artists out there at the moment? I think other people could respond to this question better than me haha... but I think the fact that I am French but have learnt to speak Jamaican patois is pretty unusual. When I went to Jamaica they really tested me, like there’s two of you and someone lays down a rhythm and then you just have to go for it, toasting over it and keeping up the flow, you’ve got to follow the vibe. So that was kind of their test for me. I passed hahaha... they saw that I had a good voice, even though I’m white and French! I went back there a second time in 2011 with France O to film the documentary ‘Biga Ranx en Jamaïque’ (Biga Ranx in Jamaica) which was another incredible experience, it felt like home. What would you say inspires you to write the music you write? What inspires me is everyday life, the ups and downs. Lots of artists want to spread a serious message but I don’t want to impose one particular teaching on people or try to be a prophet or something. I think that the people who listen to my music are like me, they don’t want to be managed or influ-
enced by someone they just want to escape the crap in their lives by listening to a good album and sharing some good music. I want my music to be fun and entertaining, to bring a positive vibe. Another thing that inspires me is not giving up in the daily struggle. So in the song ‘I’m Hungry’ I sing about my struggles in music and daily life. ‘Ordinary Day’ is another song which is more conscious; about how each day is different so make the most of it. I sing about hope as well and always make my tracks full of hope. I think ‘Ordinary Day’ is like a prayer, I am thanking God for the life he has given to me. I want to get across my passion for life despite the hard times. If you could work with any artist out there at the moment who would it be and why? I’ve been lucky to work with many artists who I admire and who have become my friends, people like Kanka, Joseph Cotton, and Potential Kidd who I met and got on really well with musically and personally. I met Popcaan and we really clicked so I’d love to work with him. I’m also excited to be playing in a line-up with him and Major Lazer at Summerjam. But because my music has a lot of influences from other genres like hip hop there are just too many artists I admire and would love to work with, so the list would be way too long... But I’m open to any propositions haha. How did you get to where are today musically? I guess because I have worked hard to get to where I am today. One of the things that helped me the most I think was learning English at school, and
I often travelled to England with my Father. After I had learnt English really well I learnt patois, listening to reggae all the time helped a lot. I work hard every day, when I started I did a lot of mixtapes with my brother, and performed at every bar and venue I could find. Then meeting my label X-Ray was probably what gave me my break, so I could record my music and go on tours meeting fans who have supported me since the very beginning. Cos really, that’s the best part of the job - being on a stage in front of people who love what you do. Have you got anything upcoming in the pipeline for the future? Yeah I’ve got a lot of exciting stuff planned for the future; I’m bringing out a vinyl with Joseph Cotton including the ‘Air France Anthem’, a vinyl with Kanka, another with Mungo’s Hi Fi. We’re also filming the music video for the next single off my 2nd album and I’m already working on my 3rd album. I’ll be really busy too with more live dates around France (we have more than 70 in total this year) and festivals in France and Germany this summer. So loads of stuff!
Where do you see your career heading within the next 12 months? Well I would really like to share my music internationally more and get my music heard abroad, like in the UK and Germany where the reggae scene is big. The fact that I sing in English means more people can understand my lyrics and share my love for reggae. As I said, I’m working more on my 3rd album as well which I am really excited for. Would you ever go on tour to the UK? Yeah definitely, I’m really looking forward to getting to that stage! What artist from the UK Music industry would you love to make music with? I really enjoyed working with Charlie P and DJ Aphrodite who are both English, and Mungo’s Hi Fi, from Scotland, we worked together on a couple of things. I would also love to make music with Kid Cudi, that would be cool. Again, I’m open to propositions! What advice would you give to someone attempting to gain a career within the music industry? The most important thing is to love your work and not give up on it! So keep going and believe in what you do. I make my music for other people, for the shared enjoyment of music. Be passionate!
