HARRY STYLES’ DAMAGED GOODS AFTER SHOE AFFAIR P oor young Harry has had his fair share of hits lately and has been knocked down a peg or two by people, most notable Taylor Swift. Now it seems that fans of One Direction are turning their attention to hurting Harry too as he was hit square in the crotch with a shoe during their Glasgow gig at the end of February. After one shoe landed onstage he approached the crowd only to be hit by the second of the pair and

collapsing on the floor. This led to a huge number of Twitter followers using the hashtag #Prayforharrysballs. It’s safe to say Taylor won’t be wanting Harry back even more so now due to the potential damage caused to his “magic wand” as Sharon Osborne so nicely put it at the Brit Awards. The culprit of the incident, a 14 year old girl, has since apologized for the assault to the 19 year old singer who was let back into the concert after Styles requested she was even though the police stated she “could have killed him”.

After turning up onstage almost two hours late he was hit with a massive backlash on Twitter from angry fans and parents. Due to it being a Monday night a lot of his young fans were unable to stay due to having

school the next day and even the older ones struggled to stay the duration due to the risk of missing last trains and transport. But it’s okay because it appears he’s a fast learner! On the second London night he was actually onstage 2 minutes EARLY! Amazing what a good telling off from mothers can achieve.

Having recollections of her previous UK festival slot at Glastonbury in 2011 I hope she has considerably raised her game or else I don’t think her V Fest slot will be anything too spectacular. UNITED VS MADRID CRUMBLES AT CONTROVERSY

veryone witnessed the most intense game of Champions League history. The whole tie turned upside down in the 56th minute when Nani went to control a high ball and his right foot slammed into the ribs of former Liverpool defender Alvaro Arbeloa. To everyone’s understanding Nani didn’t do anything wrong in his eyes. Full concentration was with the ball therefore he didn’t notice where Alvaro was. Referee Cuneyt Cakir may I point out, was the same referee that sent off John Terry against Barcelona in the Champions League and sending off Nani was just adding

to his collection of sending offs in major competition tie’s. Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand protested to the referee by clapping vigorously and sarcastically into his face claiming he robbed Uniteds chance. Because of the sending off, Real Madrid Scored 2 goals within 2 minutes and Ronaldo scored against his former club knocking them out of the Champions League.

The Brit Awards returned in February for the 33rd edition of its ceremony which took place at the London 02 Arena. Muse kicked off the show with their track Supremacy which was the sound of the 2012 London Olympics and became synonymous with everything great about the United Kingdom. They also showcased why they are classed as one of the greatest live acts of all time with Matt Bellamy’s falsetto and guitar riffing at its usual faultless standard. Hosting the event as last year is the fantastic James Corden who mixes well with the celebrity audience and straight away makes light of the cutting short of Adele’s speech at last year’s show.

The young singer from Devon wrote his album in a barn whilst studying journalism and was shocked but elated with his wins and did a stunning acoustic performance of his song ‘Only Love’ just highlighting why he won on the night. For me the standout performance of the night came from the tuxedo wearing Justin Timberlake as he set to reinstate himself in the UK music scene. Performing his latest single Mirrors he oozed style and unleashed a mature style with elements very similar to his early work which were incredibly well received by the 02 audience. It’s great to see Justin back in music and on top form with some fantastic tracks. Mumford & Sons beat the likes of the XX, Alt-J, Muse and One Direction to win the Best British Group award and followed this up later on in the evening with an incredibly powerful rendition of ‘I Will Wait’.

Another performer to be mentioned is Taylor Swift who performed her hit ‘I knew you were trouble’ which was supposedly written about her short lived romance with Harry Styles who was in the audience. No doubt her switch from a white gown to a little black dress mid song was a dig at Styles and clearly showing him what he’s missing out on now they’re no longer together and something Robbie Williams definitely appreciated quickly quipping “It will be my go soon”. On the international chart we saw the Black Keys crowned best group with Frank Ocean and Lana Del Rey grabbing the international male and female gongs respectively, for Lana this was the second year in a row she had won the award. All in all it was a fantastic presentation of music and awards and a highlight of British music and all that is great about it. Check out all the performances online.

My name is Ryan Sparrow and I have just graduated, in Law, at Nottingham Trent University. I am looking for a career within a commercial law firm but, as many are finding these days, it is extremely difficult, due to so many people looking for so few jobs. Law firms usually require staff with a great deal of work experience. H&M made their Paris Fashion week debut presenting their Autumn collection for 2013 which will be available in stores worldwide as well as online from September 5th this year. Celebrity guests such as Ashley Olsen, Chloe Moretz and Emma Roberts were presents for the show which happened within the grounds of the Musee Rodin. H&M’s Head of Design states “I loved seeing out Autumn Collection on the catwalk at Paris Fashion Week. It brought to life the spirit of the clothes, and how you can mix together different styles to create your own personal look.” Margareta van den Bosch, the companies creative advisor continued “It’s such an exciting step for H&M to show key pieces for autumn in Paris. The event

was magical, staged in a chic environment full of atmosphere.” The Autumn Collection is a playful mix of styles that combine dramatic silhouettes with more decorative pieces. Delicacy and a sense of faded grandeur is found in pieces such as an open backed sequin dress or an embellished and fringe shoulder piece whilst knitwear is also key. This first ever Paris Fashion Week showing was styled by George Cortina and allowed H&M to present its collection for the coming autumn season in a whole new light on models such as Cara Delevingne, Isabeli Fontana and Arizona Muse. The venue was decorated like a dream apartment full of the part elegance of 70’s Paris.

From a very young age, I’ve had a passion for media. But, it wasn’t until I reached High School when it became clear that this would be the career path I would take. Since the age of 9, I had the urge to make my own films, from start to finish. I’m still trying to figure out which aspect of the genre I want to do and that’s why I am carrying on with media production in college. Given the choice, it will have to be film-making and script writing for me.

You must be thinking pop of colour? Well its new way of starting the year off which would immediately easy you into the transition of summer. ‘End of Watch’ is designed to be a gritty real life drama of life on the roads for the cops of Los Angeles and it certainly delivers a realistic impression of the horrors that can occur for these men and women. This is helped by the camera angles and shots, many of which are handheld, which gives the film a strong documentary feel and atmosphere. LB - Interval training Describe yourself in a word: PB - Positive LB - Inspired How long have you been a personal trainer for and why did you go into it? PB - Five years. I’m a bachelor of art first and got my degree in video production and photography. But unfortunately in the process of doing that, fell out of love with using a camera, and really enjoyed training myself as well as the environment the gym offered. LB - Five years too. I love sport and fitness and love to see people improving their health on a daily basis. That’s my main motivation. What are your top tips for staying fit and getting back in shape in time for summer? PB – First up, cut the crap - most of the time. With this I mean, eat clean

and healthy five days a week, most likely when you’re at work. It’ll be far easier to adopt of routine of preparing food and then when you eat it, because your work already provides it. Secondly, it is important to keep changing. At the minute, I couldn’t find out exactly what I’ve trained over the last week even if I wanted to. I know what I need to do to stay nice and lean, but I change it every time I go to the gym. I’ll usually do interval training on a piece of cardio, a body weight circuit and some upper body weights. LB – Personally I would recommend doing interval training like there’s a horde of zombies running after you! A lot of people know about doing interval training, but what they don’t do is commit. The sprint section of your intervals should be 90% of your all out sprint. (So up in the 16-18kmh) range on a treadmill. This is where progress is made. Do this! And your six-pack will start to show. This form of training is useful when working with models getting ready for a shoot or catwalk. They often require results quickly and this training format is the best way to get them there in a short space of time. Also, don’t forget the classics. No one has ever reinvented or come up with better exercises than the squat for the legs, bench press for the chest and wide grip pull ups for the back... and there’s a very good reason for that, because they do what they should, sculpt and build

those big muscle groups. Train these, but change the tempo (speed of the exercise) as well as weight and repetitions, to really see results. Go lighter and more reps for definition (3 sets of 15-20 reps) or heavier and fewer reps for size (4 sets of 8-12 reps) What would be the safest and easiest way to tone up? PB - If you switched your current diet for a high protein, low carb one and started doing a moderate level of interval training, you start seeing results. Most importantly, just keep doing it, it’s not going to happen overnight, but if you keep going, then on a physics basis, you will see results. With gaining the right figure for summer, what type of diet would you recommend and why? PB - Paleo, Paleo, Paleo!! Whether you’re trying to build muscle or look leaner, this diet will help. The Palaeolithic diet is a book written by Loren Cordain and is based upon and probably better known as the cave man diet. It just means you eat very clean, nothing processed, no diary, no manufactured carbs etc. it just means your body has the fuel it was designed to use and knows exactly what to do with it. More importantly, it means you can wake up and smash into a fillet steak at 7am..... And it will get you abs! We base our nutritional guidance, for all the models we train, around the above principle and have created some fantastic outcomes as

Health & Fitness a result. LB - all of the above. Also get organised. Prepare a progressive plan when you first start so you see steady improvements throughout.

As it is almost summer, everyone wants to get in shape, what’s the right way to go about it, working out from home or going to the gym? PB – 15 minutes. This is more a question of convenience, what are you near or not near, that will mean you can get to the gym, into the outdoors or into the garage and train within 15 minutes. That’s my rule. I can make anywhere work, give me a field with a tree, a garage with a bench and a punch bag, or give me a big fancy gym in the city. You can make any of them work. It’s more how quickly and easy it is to get to them, because if a gym is far away, no matter how good it is, you need extra time to get there, which will detract from your workout time. Meaning less motivation, less results and failure altogether. Find a gym close to work, close to home, or set yourself up with a routine at home you can do........ If in doubt for ideas, YouTube it. LB - Honestly there are no locational limitations to getting fit. Whether training in a house, park, gym there are ways that you could get what you are looking for including cardio, strength, endurance workout etc. You just need to get imaginative and innovative!

As well as helping you sleep better, this positive output each night will keep you Focussed and motivated to keep improving for the next day and beyond. Also it’s easy to lose focus with food when you are in a rush so always have a bunch of healthy snacks on you so that there is no temptation to eat the wrong things. Models are often rushing between castings so this is one thing we always advise for them to follow. PB – Simple, an awesome playlist is what you need. I like to listen to music from my favourite (usually fighting) films. Like the montage music from rocky 4 or red jump suit apparatus from the training montage in never back down. Makes me feel like the people in the movie. And I’ve also got what they look like in the film to motivate me. Also, set alarms. I set three alarms just to wake up! I set alarms throughout the day; it keeps me on top of what I have to do. Especially my training. I set them for each section of my workout, so I know if I have to be tighter on rest periods or talking to people. What are your best exercise recommendations for someone who can’t or doesn’t like to do weight training? PB - If we take this from the point of view of someone wanting to put on muscle, but doesn’t like or is scared of using weights. The idea of putting on muscle is snapping the muscle fibres at a microscopic scale. Then they repair slightly bigger. This is done classily with heavy weight training. LB - You can also do this by using eccentric training (the lowering phase of any exercise) so you are lengthening the muscles under tension, again snapping them and then them repairing bigger, so take a press up or squat and take 4 seconds to reach the bottom point of the exercise

(chest and inch off the ground/ in a seated position) this will do the same job, but doesn’t need any equipment at all.

Could you share with our readers any new/relatively unknown exercise techniques that you know are very effective? 1 - Use a Bosu for abdominal crunches. (Half Swiss ball) Doing sit ups over a (ball side up) Bosu will allow your abdominals to fully extend and get a longer time under tension. Floor sit ups only use about a third of your abdominals range and capability. 2 - Foam roll! If you’re a member of a half decent gym, you may see these weird little foam rolling pin lying around. These used in the right way, are basically a free sports massage you can do on yourself. Fundamentally you help lengthen and return your muscle fibres to their natural length. Helping with anything from postural re-alignment to shin- splints. 3 - Go and talk to someone at a gym! Seriously, unless you’re already discussing prices, talking to the guys/ girls at the gym is a good idea. They know what’s what, or will know where to find it. And talk to someone who is in good shape, chances are it worked for them, so they can tell you about it. 4 - TRX Invented by an ex-marine and designed to use anywhere! They are the ultimate piece of kit! And fits in a handbag (not that I carry mine in there very often) it’s literally a strap with two handles that can be hung or attached. ustin Timberlake has made an astounding return to the music industry in recent months with two smash hit singles in the forms of “Suit and Tie” and the recent number one “Mirrors”. These are both featured on his brand new album The 20/20 Experience which is due out on the 19th March and sure to sell millions due to the fan base he commands. It’s been roughly seven years since his previous release FutureSex/LoveSounds and his hiatus from music led to many to believe that he was finished with the business and focusing purely on his acting career on into the future. This news of his upcoming new album then has no doubt caused huge amounts of excitement around the world and shows JT is ready to reclaim his title as a major pop heavyweight. Since his early successes with N*Sync, Justin was able to seamlessly move into his solo career with his debut Justified which spawned an incredible number of hit singles as well as two Grammy awards. Some of the production on this debut album was done by rapper and producer Timberland and Timberlake has returned to him for production on 20/20

Whilst talking on the Jonathan Ross show Timberlake stated how he is “an anomaly, and I mean that in a very positive way.” Justin featured on Jay Z and Kanye West’s ‘Watch The Throne’ tour during their American dates and this friendship and multiple collaborations with Jay Z led to much speculation about a tour featuring the two men, something that was only heightened after their fantastic Grammy award performance. Mr & Miss SC Gurpreet Bilkhu is this month’s ‘Miss Street Cred’ simply because she ticks all the relevant boxes when describing a young, positive, forward-thinking, inspirational roll-model that others, young and old, male and female, can aspire to. A Project and Office Manager at Punch Records in Birmingham, this leading mover and shaker in Birmingham’s thriving arts and creativity scene is quite definitely the ‘go to’ leading light in the development of music, dance and theatre, especially within the Asian and Caribbean communities. Birmingham-born Gurpreet’s deep passion for Asian arts and media, in particular, has seen her create some major arts events, both here and abroad, having created the colourful and exuberant ‘Desi Moves’ dance showcase at the city’s Town Hall and launching the successful ‘Bhangra Exhibition,’ in New York’s Soho: “Bhangra is in my blood” she says. The 28-year-old is a product of Coventry University, gaining a degree in Human Resources before getting her C.I.P.D. Masters thereafter. A ‘fighter for the cause,’ Coventryraised Gurpreet led a mass flashmob at the Mailbox, in the city centre demonstrating lobbying against planned cuts which threatened the very existence of BBC Asian Network:

Tell me some background information on you as a artist? My name is deci4life been doing music in Birmingham about 10 years now. I’m a producer I make EDM, Trap music and all the other urban genres I do lyricism, spoken word poetry, I spit to grime, hip-hop. I’m always involved in theatre I was a part of Decipher collective first grime production theatre crew. I’m just in Birmingham working with different artists and working on different projects just doing my thing. What makes you different to the other established artists out there at the moment? Well you know what energy and hype you get me? A lot of mc’s, you can go on stage you can tell a story, you can spit a tune about love. I’m more about energy and hype I don’t think there’s a lot of that, I used to love Heartless Crew because when you went it was all about energy it was all about what you was seeing on stage and what you was hearing. That’s what difference’s with a lot of different artists there’s a lot of energy and hype. I used a lot of theatre techniques on stage I like to interact with my audience I like to act out you know what I mean? So, yeah that’s it just real hype expression.

What’s been your biggest achievement to date? There’s a few you know, there’s being apart of the Decipher Collective which was the first grime theatre group, we put on a grime theatre show that went on tour absolutely sold out it was absolutely amazing. I recently performed in Wembley on the same stage as Wretch 32, Devlin, Angel a few other big artists. That was amazing, Shelled it absolutely shut the place down you get me? I did a tune with Trilla he did a video with GrimeDaily and it got like 50 thousand views it’s probably about 60 thousand now that was the first I was involved with something like that. Yeah man it just keeps happening more and more things happening everyday.

What advice would you give to someone in your position trying to make it into the music industry? With the success from last season and his third championship back to back, Sebastian Vettel is back this year and already becoming everyone’s favourite to win the season. Vettel aged 25 and still racing with his Red Bull Racing team already has fantastic stats containing 26 wins, 1,054 career points, 46 podiums and 15 fastest laps. Has he got what it takes to win again? The last

person to win four titles on the trot was another German, a little known man called Michael Schumacher who retired at the end of last year. It will be interesting to see if Adrian Newey (RBR’s technical officer and designer) has done it again and created a stunning car and created a car capable of dominating the field again in 2013.

BRITISH CONTENDERS WILLING TO THRIVE.... The racers representing Great Britain this season are Jenson Button driving with McLaren, Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes, Paul Di Resta still with Force India and Max Chilton driving for Marussia. One of the big stories of the closed season was Hamilton’s switch from long term team McLaren to the struggling Mercedes works team. It will be interesting to see if a man who has been a strong title contender for all his previous seasons can get performance out of a car which has consistently struggled for years now even at the hands of good drivers. With Hamilton out of the McLaren picture it will be interesting to see if Jenson can thrive as the number 1 driver and if the performance is with the car even challenge for another title.

The Citroen DS3 Sport is incredibly styled with smooth drive and remarkable control. It retails in the budget market of cars making it more for everyone as it retails at around £20k. This means it’s not expensive compared to the Bugatti although it’s not exactly cheap either.

Those who have driven this vehicle have said it’s incredible just like the other range of Citroens available. Saying this the reviews around have only rated it at 3 stars even though in performance it receives phenomenal reviews.

The Citroen is famously known for being a preciously smooth driven hatchback not so ideal for family but great for a fun car. It’s clearly designed for the younger end of the driver spectrum. In contrast the Buggati series is known to be purchased by the (very rich) alpha-male with speed and precision in mind to make them look impressive and stylish. If I had to choose which Vehicle I would have, it would be the Citroen D53 sport.

For the first race of the season the teams will be heading to Melbourne and kicking off the Australian grand prix. Last season, Jenson button claimed victory there. HOLT REPORT PUSHES APPRENTICESHIPS FORWARD

Following the Holt Report being published the government has committed itself to increasing awareness among small and medium enterprises to the benefits of apprenticeships. It also says it will make support for small businesses simpler and more accessible and taking away powers from training firms when it comes to advising apprentices. This is said to empower small enterprises to be more aware of the benefits of taking on apprenticeships and how best to recruit and train them. New measures announced will see the government: -Work with the people that businesses look to for advice including lawyers and accountants to promote apprenticeships. -Enable small and medium enterprises to get their apprenticeships the necessary training they need by providing them better information on availability and investigating how to give them a greater say in developing the skills they need.

-Improve the performance of providers of the training by agreeing necessary standards. -Improve the Apprenticeship Grant for Employers by making it simpler and more accessible for employers. Education Secretary Michael Gove said, “I am very grateful to Jason Holt for the considerable time and effort he has devoted to producing his report. He is certainly right that we need to give employers, and not training providers, the power and freedom to shape their apprenticeships, and make the process as simple as possible for every employer.” The government should be promoting the benefits of apprenticeships to businesses, and there’s no doubt that with youth unemployment at such high levels that something needs to be done. As it was ‘Disney on Ice: Lets Party’ it contained a lot of little celebrations from across the year including Halloween, Christmas and even Valentine’s day. Lucky individuals had been given the chance to meet Mickey and Minnie Mouse and have their photograph with them. To everyone’s amusement it was clear to see children loved the event. It’s a great action packed bundle of fun for all the family. The skating was outstanding and showed excellence and quality which must have taken hours in rehearsals to pull off. The highlight for me was seeing the paired couples skate together and the pairing of

Aladdin and Jasmine were the most incredible for me. The timing and quality needed to learn each dance with so much precision is impressive. Seeing the joy and amazement on children and parents faces was priceless you could see that they felt it was money well spent as they had a great time and so did their child/ children so it’s a great scenario. The music they danced to was some of the Disney popular movies like for example ‘You got a friend in me’ which of course was of the hit movie Toy Story, the second you heard the music you knew who was coming out to skate and gave you a sense of your youth come out as you found yourself taken back to remembering your childhood by familiar music. Disney always does events such like this and personally if you have a little family definitely don’t miss the next one as they would love it, who knows you might end up loving it yourself.
