‘It’s Cloud On’: AWS and Bellevue University Team Up to Connect Even More Learners to Cloud Careers

Cloud computing skills development through AWS Cloud Institute opens the door to cloud careers and can translate to college credit.

Amazon Web Services’ AWS Cloud Institute and Bellevue University, one of the nation’s leading online universities, are teaming up to connect even more learners, regardless of their technical background, to cloud computing careers.

As one of the first higher education institutions teaming up with AWS Cloud Institute, Bellevue will leverage AWS Cloud Institute across its diverse learner and corporate partner network.

“The availability of skilled cloud talent is one of the largest barriers to industry transformation,” said Kevin Kelly, Director of AWS Cloud Institute. “Teaming up with Bellevue allows us to connect into a community of motivated learners who are eager to build opportunity for their lives and careers. It also opens up new dimensions of conversation with Bellevue's engaged employer partners who use AWS services, allowing us to explore how they can address their cloud talent needs through reskilling and internal mobility programs.”

According to a 2022 McKinsey & Company report, most cloud hires will come from existing employees who have upgraded their skills. The report noted that up-skilling workers’ skills can cost significantly less than hiring new ones.

Individuals who enroll in AWS Cloud Institute gain in-demand skills and hands-on technical experience through nine core courses, 150+ labs and a capstone project in preparation for two AWS certifications – AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner and AWS Certified Developer. The program can be completed in as little as nine months.

“With a deep focus on employee growth planning, we’re uniquely qualified to help adult learners and the employers we partner with connect with specialized cloud computing education delivered by AWS,” said Dr. Mary Hawkins, President of Bellevue University. “‘It’s cloud on,’ and we’re ready to work together to drive careers and companies forward quickly.”

Dr. Hawkins added that those who complete the AWS Cloud Institute program will earn 45 credit hours that can be applied to cloud computing-related college degrees.

AWS Cloud Institute program prepares graduates for job roles such as cloud developer, cloud engineer, DevOps engineer, cloud administrator or cloud support engineer.

For more information about AWS cloud computing education for you or your workforce, please visit bellevue.edu/aws.

As a private, nonprofit university with nearly 25 years of experience offering online degrees, Bellevue University is dedicated to innovating education to better serve working students like you. Christopher German has transformed the art of perfumery into something accessible, personal and unforgettable. From signature fragrances to customized scent events, Evodia Fragrances offers a unique way to celebrate special occasions and create lasting memories. Key highlights include custom scent creation, along with bottle designing and custom handmade bottles made, for your everlasting euphoria.

Evodia Fragrances launched in May of 2020, and recently reached an exciting milestone with the grand opening of its first storefront location on December 7, 2024. This significant event marked a new chapter for the brand, allowing customers to experience its offerings firsthand.

The new Evodia Fragrances storefront is located at Modern Work Suites 8970 F St, Suite 222. Positioned in a vibrant and growing community, the location serves as a hub for creativity and connection, where customers can explore fragrances and participate in custom scent events.

Venture Community Capital (VCC), LLC is pleased to announce the renovation and transformation of 2027 Dodge Street into Connec+, a collaborative office space, with a 20,000-squarefoot fitness center, Bloc Fitness, set to open in early 2025.

VCC restored 2027 Dodge Street to its former glory. The building has now been fully renovated into Connec+, a collaborative office space with floors one through five offering flexible private office spaces. These spaces feature bright offices, modern-themed amenities, meeting rooms and classrooms designed for productivity and collaboration.

The bottom two floors of the building are currently undergoing significant renovations to become Bloc Fitness. This premium fitness center, set to open in early 2025, will offer downtown Omaha residents and professionals the opportunity to seamlessly integrate work and wellness into their daily lives

“With Bloc Fitness in the same building as Connec+, our members enjoy unmatched convenience,” said David Lutz, Managing Director at VCC. “Imagine stepping out of a productive meeting and walking downstairs to rejuvenate in a cutting-edge fitness center. This is more than just a building—it’s a community designed to help people thrive.”

Since its construction, the building has served as headquarters for many companies, while the basement has consistently been used as a fitness center. Major renovations in 1988 introduced a grand foyer with marble floors, a glass roof, a trading floor and a ballroom, now known as the Leo Ballroom. The Leo Ballroom remains a popular event venue, preserving the building’s historic charm.

“VCC is proud to honor the rich history of 2027 Dodge Street while reimagining its future,” said Lutz. “With Connec+ and Bloc Fitness, we are creating a unique hub for innovation, collaboration and wellness in the heart of Omaha.”

Centris Federal Credit Union Champions Community Care: Donating to Troops and Diaper Banks

Centris Federal Credit Union proudly announced the completion of two major donation initiatives, underscoring its dedication to community support and betterment.

Centris employees recently contributed 1,149 pounds of supplies and filled six manila envelopes with heartfelt letters of gratitude that will be used to create care packages by the Support Our Troops organization. Support Our Troops was established for the purpose of strengthening the morale and well-being of current military service members and their families. “Our employees are proud to stand behind our troops, and these care packages are just a small token of our appreciation for the sacrifices they make every day,” said Chrissy Cunningham, Benefits Administrator at Centris.

In addition to supporting troops, Centris extended its charitable efforts to address a critical need in our communities. Centris organized a diaper drive across all its branch locations, benefiting the Nebraska Diaper Bank, Hope Harbor in Grand Island and Hope Esperanza in North Platte. This initiative aims to combat diaper insecurity, a pressing issue affecting one in three families in Nebraska who struggle to afford diapers for their children.

“The Nebraska Diaper Bank, one of the beneficiaries of Centris’s diaper drive, plays a crucial role in the community by providing diapers through collaborative partnerships to change lives and empower families in need,” said Dawn Gonzales, Vice President, Community Relations at Centris. “Our donation initiatives align with the credit union philosophy of “people helping people,” and our commitment to investing in the communities we serve. These donations provide essential supplies and contribute to reducing stress for families and improving the well-being of both parents and children.”

TheGroveJuicery&WellnessCaféExpanding to Aksarben

The Grove Juicery & Wellness Café is adding a second location at the Inner Rail Food Hall in Aksarben Village. Construction is now underway, and its opening is planned for March 2025. The Grove’s existing location is at 2401 Farnam Street in Downtown Omaha.

The Grove was born out of a jetlag, exhaustion, headaches, dull skin and indigestion. As an international fashion consultant, Owner Meghann Schense had the honor of working with creatives around the world. However, living out a suitcase, working in a different time-zone every week with no sense of routine, was all extremely taxing. She found herself seeking out a coldpressed juice, wellness cafes with fresh, local, organic foods; yoga studios and health spas, all of which quickly became her sanctuary on the road.

The Grove provides nourishment for a sharp mind, glowing body, healthy heart and happy soul, and all of its products are plant-based. Placing plants at the center of The Grove's diets is a simple, powerful and delicious way to improve one's health and environment. The Grove does not use additives, preservatives, stabilizers, gums or added sugar. Everything is made fresh daily in Omaha.

From day one, it has been important for The Grove to run a Zero-Waste Production Facility and Café. The Grove has an intricate recycling program in store, which includes composting the leftover juice pulp to get cycled back into the soil and given back to local farmers.

Each member of The Grove Family is an essential thread of the fabric it continues to weave, so its customers know they have the best crew in town! To learn more about The Grove Juciery and Wellness Cafe, visit thegrovejuicery.com.

For ProsperSpark, an Omaha-based Excel and process improvement consulting firm, process mapping serves as the first step toward streamlining operations, enhancing productivity and freeing up valuable resources. It’s the bridge between existing workflows and optimized processes for the future.

Businesses that start the year with a clear, written plan are far more likely to achieve their goals. Yet, for many businesses, the hardest part is knowing where to start. As we step into 2025, achieving clarity and efficiency in your business operations can make all the difference. That’s where process mapping comes in—a powerful tool that visually charts your workflows, identifies bottlenecks and uncovers opportunities for improvement.

• Identify manual tasks that can be automated

• Eliminate unnecessary steps that slow down productivity

• Align your team’s efforts with larger business objectives

By starting the year with a clear picture of your processes, you set the stage for smarter, more agile business planning in 2025.

To help businesses like yours hit the ground running, ProsperSpark is offering a limited number of free 60-minute process mapping sessions to the first five businesses that schedule. These extended sessions will allow us to:

• Visualize your workflows

• Identify inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement

• Provide actionable insights tailored to your business needs

After the first five bookings, we’ll continue offering free 30-minute process mapping sessions throughout January to ensure everyone has a chance to benefit.

We try to bring more of a family-feel to the job.

How did you get started in the business? - My father-in-law actually convinced me to become an electrician.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? - On my days off, I really enjoy playing basketball, golfing or just hanging out with my family.

Who inspires you? - My wife and kids are who inspire me the most. They keep me going on a daily basis and give me a reason to keep pushing, and also my Mom. Seeing the struggles she went through as a single mom makes my appreciation for her grow now that I see what it's like raising my own family.

KEVIN

Kevin Malone

Meet Kevin Malone, a Financial Advisor at Edward Jones.

Tell us a little about your business. - I work with individuals and businesses to help them save and invest money as they work towards some of their individual financial goals. We talk openly about objectives, goals and wishes for their future. Through an established process, we build an investment plan that is tailored for just for them.

How did you get started in the business? - I have always found the financial markets and what makes them tic fascinating, and it seemed that I had a natural ability to work with people and relate complex topics into terms that make sense to people at all levels of understanding of a variety of financial matters. Working with people to help them achieve their financial goals resonated with me, and I decided to pursue what I was meant to do.

Tell us a little about your family. - I am married; I have been with my wife for 20 years this January. I have two daughters, Sofia and Mia, as well as a dog named Teddy. I come from a large family. I was raised with eight brothers and sisters (six sisters and two brothers). We grew up here in Omaha, where we all went to Creighton University.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? - Welcoming my daughters into this world. The days they were born were far and away the most life changing and impactful days of my life. No one can prepare you for how much you will love your children, and my wife Lisa and I absolutely adore our two girls, Sofia and Mia.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? - If I am not coaching soccer or basketball for my daughters, you will likely find me spending time with my family. Being intentional about sharing quality time together is very important to us.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? - There have been a few occasions when I was recognized as a "hero" for saving someone's day. I pulled a man out of an icy river. No one knew he was there, and I heard a faint cry for help. He was struggling and had fallen in with all his clothes on. I gathered the help of another bystander, and we called 911 and pulled him to safety.

Who inspires you? - My family inspires me.

What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? - I have often been recognized for my professional strengths, with recognition for my performance as a sales leader. However, I am most proud of my philanthropic work, both with special needs people as well as with Leukemia Lymphoma Society. My youngest brother was born with Special Needs, and so advocating for people that often cannot advocate for themselves has been an ongoing mission for my family. My parents founded an organization to serve the special needs community, called Angel Works. My sister had Leukemia when she was young and various other forms of Cancer have impacted my family, so the pursuit of finding cures for these diseases has always been near and dear to my heart. In 2019 and 2020, I was a nominee for "Man of the Year" for my support and fundraising efforts for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society, and I have been inducted as a member of the "LLS Hall of Fame.”

Cam Vacek UNGRIDLOCKED

Meet Cam Vacek, AI Consultant at Ungridlocked.

Tell us a little about your business. - Ungridlocked was created out of a passion to help business owners be successful in the realm of Leadership, AI/Tech Efficiencies, Organizational Design and Marketing.

I work alongside owners and executive teams to create lasting changes in their organizations and they’ll realize immediate impact/ gains from our work together.

Additionally, I think working together should be fun and involve food.

How did you get started in the business? - I started sharing AI tips and secrets with my business colleagues and realized that most people know they should be using AI, but had a hard time imagining ways to use it. It was after a presentation to a small group of professionals that many people came up and asked me if I could do the same presentation at their company, but tailored to their industry. It’s so rewarding to see people be confident in using AI and start to transform their workflows.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? - Right now I’m just getting started so I’m figuring out the best way to get the word out and which pricing models and industries I want to focus on.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? To date, I’ve been able to do several AI presentations to small groups of executive leadership teams and I’m really encouraged to see the wheels start to turn in their head and them thinking about different ways they want to implement AI.

Tell us a little about your family. - I’ve been married to my husband for 15 years and we have 4 kids who are currently in 4 different schools from high school to pre-k. He is also in the tech space so we have really geeky AI conversations. We also manage another side hustle of robotic handwritten cards which has been a great opportunity to involve our kids and teach them practical business skills.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? - Honestly, when I first became at Christian at 14 and all the ways God has continually refined me has been extremely instrumental to where I’m at in life now. No skill or talent I have is of my own doing and I can truly point to Jesus as the source of everything I have.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? - I once ate 2.5 Chipotle Burritos in one sitting, or I got 2nd place in my high school’s checkers tournament.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? - Compassionate

If you had a theme song, what would it be? - “Gansta’s Paradise” is a pretty solid walk-up song.

What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? - Being able to pick out the best restaurant in new cities.

What local nonprofit organizations are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? - Restoring Dignity, they help immigrant families and I deeply relate to their experience. What has been your most important achievement professionally? - I’m proud of the work that has been accomplished by the Nebraska Mortgage Association. I just completed my first year on the board of directors.

Tell us a little about your family. - My wife, Kellsi, and I are both lifelong Nebraskans. Our blended family has four kids from age 12 to 23.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? - I feel incredibly blessed to have found the mortgage industry. Working for a small, entrepreneurial company gave me so much perspective and made me more well-rounded. I learned the importance of customer service, marketing, budgeting and so much more.

Autism Action Partnership Brings Autism TrainingtoNationalParkServiceStaff Across the Midwest Region

Autism Action Partnership (AAP) is thrilled to collaborate with the National Park Service (NPS) to provide essential autism training workshops for NPS employees across the Midwest Region, covering 13 states. AAP’s workshops aim to equip NPS staff with tools and knowledge to create sensory accessible, inclusive experiences that better serve visitors and employees on the autism spectrum.

“We’re excited to bring this autism education to the National Park Service and inspired by their commitment to providing accessible experiences for neurodivergent visitors and employees,” said Michaela Ahrens, Vice President of Operations at Autism Action Partnership.

With the CDC reporting that 1 in 36 children are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), public spaces are continually looking to adapt to meet their diverse needs. The workshop was designed to help NPS employees better understand autism and provide tools to make parks more accessible for neurodivergent individuals and families. AAP shared information on best practices for creating inclusive spaces and sensory accessible experiences for all.

An estimated 2.21% of U.S. adults are on the autism spectrum, and more organizations are recognizing the value that neurodivergent employees bring to the workplace. AAP will share best practices and resources with NPS staff to help them minimize the barriers and capitalize on the strengths of their neurodivergent employees.

Through this collaboration with the National Park Service, AAP is making a meaningful impact by expanding understanding and accessibility across the beautiful landscapes of the Midwest’s national parks.

It is common for children to receive a new technology device this holiday season, and for some, this is the first time they have access to texting, downloading music, taking and receiving photos, instant messaging, social media apps, watching videos, etc. In addition, they have access to cyberbullying, meeting strangers and talking to people who are not necessarily who they say they are. That’s a lot of access at the tip of children’s fingers, not to mention, that is a lot to manage as a parent.

It is no surprise that the internet has changed the way children interact with the world. According to Pew Research Center, teens are increasingly sharing information through social media. Sharing this kind of information makes it easy for online perpetrators to seek out potential victims, gather personal information and make contact. Here are some general tips and guidance to help parents make decisions about what apps and rules children need in order to use their new devices and internet safely.

General Tips & Guidance

Tell children to:

• Never give out identifying information such as their name, address, neighborhood, phone number, school information or extracurricular activities.

• Let their parents know immediately if someone asks for pictures or personal information.

• Be aware of what apps the kids are using and know the apps’ capabilities. CommonSenseMedia.org is a great resource that provides reviews of commonly used apps and video games among youth.

• Set time limits on computers and smartphones and have rules around where devices are kept and can be used.

• Use the parent or caregiver’s name and email when signing up for games or apps.

If one’s child is subjected to inappropriate content, cyberbullying or even sextortion, ensure they know they are not at fault. If a child thinks he/she will be punished for receiving inappropriate content or cyberbullying, they will not tell a trusted adult. Talk to the child, collect evidence (emails, texts, screenshots of social media posts, etc) and contact the police if physical threats are involved.

Project Harmony is offering a free online safety training for parents, caregivers and educators on January 16. Visit projectharmony.com/ training/calendar/ for more information and to register.

Nebraska Humane Society Celebrates Their 7,000th Adoption!

Vision Maker Media and the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center are proud to continue the Native American Film Series. Every second Monday at the Ross Film Theatre, located at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, a series of historic films from Vision Maker Media’s archives will screen each month beginning Monday, January 6. The Native film series is free and open to the public. The series honors founding executive director Frank Blythe’s vision to illuminate and educate audiences about Native people’s lives and experiences in a contemporary context. Stories highlight leaders in history, athletics, art, music, youth, and more from Native communities around the country.

Opening the 2025 Native American Film Series on January 6 is Racing the Rez. Navajo cross-country runners from two rival high schools put it all on the line for pride, triumph, and glory in the name of identity and hard work. Win or lose, the lessons learned interestingly impact the team’s lives. A Q&A session will immediately follow the screening with filmmaker Brian Truglio. Screening begins at 7:15 p.m. at the Ross Theatre located in Lincoln, NE. This screening is free and open to the public. Check the schedule at theross.org.

UWM Launches Weatherization Program for Douglas County

United Way of the Midlands (UWM) is excited to announce its collaboration with Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) and the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy (NDEE) on launching the Weatherization Assistance Program (Weatherization) in Douglas County. This initiative helps low-income households improve energy efficiency, reduce utility costs and enhance health and safety within the home.

The Weatherization program provides free energy-efficiency services to qualifying households, thanks to funding from the U.S. Departments of Energy and Health and Human Services. Eligible households will receive a comprehensive home energy audit, followed by improvements to reduce energy consumption. These improvements can include adding insulation, sealing windows and doors and addressing potential indoor air quality and safety hazards.

Following a home audit, trained crews will complete the necessary improvements, including energy-efficient upgrades and any health and safety measures required. A certified inspector verifies that all work is completed to ensure the home is safer, healthier and more energy-efficient for the residents.

UWM’s 211 Helpline is accepting Weatherization applications for households in Douglas County – and will also assist with determining eligibility for the program – making it easier for families to access this vital service.

“We are proud to collaborate with OPPD and NDEE on this program that not only helps families reduce their energy costs but also creates safer, healthier homes,” said Shawna Forsberg, UWM president and CEO.

For more information on Weatherization or to apply, Douglas County residents can call the 211 Helpline or visit UnitedWayMidlands.org/ Weatherization.

UWM’s funded programs and direct services – like 211 and JAG Nebraska – focus on four key areas to improve health and wellbeing for all, build financial stability and strength, help young people realize their full potential and address urgent needs today to advance a better tomorrow. A Successful Holiday at MICAH House

The holidays at MICAH House were filled with warmth, joy and gratitude thanks to the incredible generosity of local businesses, organizations and community supporters. Every child, parent and single woman staying at MICAH House had a merry and bright Christmas.

Through the kindness of donors, parents were able to shop for gifts for their children from an abundance of donations. These gifts were then wrapped by volunteers, creating a magical experience for children on Christmas morning. These contributions ensured a joyful holiday for all.

MICAH House extends its deepest gratitude to the businesses and organizations that hosted inKind drives and supported the shelter during this holiday season. That dedication and generosity has made an immeasurable impact on the lives of MICAH’s clients.

While the holidays were an undeniable success, MICAH House remains thankful for the year-round support of the community. This ongoing commitment allows it to provide shelter, resources and hope to families and individuals in need throughout the year.

Thanks for helping make the season bright for those who call MICAH House home. Paying it Forward: Former YES Youth Gives Back to Organization

Throughout its 50-year legacy, Youth Emergency Services (YES) has provided housing and support to youth experiencing instability, crisis and homelessness to youth like Emily.

In 1999, Emily left her abusive home and chose to couch surf with friends while attending school and working to support herself. In that time, YES served as a lifeline for Emily. YES Street Outreach staff would visit the park where she and other youth hung out, providing food, toiletries and other essentials.

“If you needed anything, [xyz], they would help you,” Emily remembers. “They would always make sure we got what we needed.”

Remembering YES staff’s dedication to providing for the youth, Emily decided to give back to YES. When a family donated a significant number of new backpacks to her workplace, Emily saw an opportunity to help.

When the backpacks didn’t sell, she bought and donated them to the Outreach Center to ensure that the youth receiving services from YES would have something sturdy and reliable. “Can’t give them just a plastic bag—it’ll tear!” Emily insisted.

Reflecting on her experiences, Emily emphasizes the importance of YES’s presence in low-income areas, ensuring they meet clients where they are.

“Over the years, YES has always stayed in the right area to meet clients where they are,” she says.

Emily's message to YES’ supporters is clear and heartfelt: “Continue what you can to help with the homeless teens... Anything you can do, keep doing it.”

Youth Emergency Services is committed to the rights and holistic needs of youth and young adults who face housing insecurity within the community. Learn more at yesomaha.org.

Keep Nebraska Beautiful (KNB) is excited to unveil our Sustainability Seal Program, a new initiative designed to recognize and promote businesses and organizations in Nebraska that lead with environmental stewardship in mind.

The program will honor businesses that integrate sustainable practices into their daily operations. Sustainability goes beyond policy—it’s a way of operating that reflects a commitment to the future. Whether it’s as simple as writing down goals in a document or completing a full, comprehensive market analysis, the importance of business planning cannot be overstated. Business planning is a roadmap everyone in the business can follow to ensure future decision making and growth is agreeable with the business, its values and its employees. The benefits of business planning extend far beyond just helping guide day-to-day decisions. It can also help secure funding from investors, allocate resources effectively, attract talent, expose weaknesses and even exceed competitors.

The New Year calls for a fresh start. Take advantage of these Omaha experts who make business planning easy, sustainable and tailored to companies’ unique needs.

Developing a business plan allows a business to clearly define its mission, vision, goals and strategies. It provides clarity and focus and gives guidance for those who need to make important business decisions. Pando PEO can help by being the HR Department of businesses’ dreams.

Sticking to a business plan builds trust and is a great way to measure progress, and Pando PEO manages a business’s full lifecycle of employees, from on-boarding, to payroll, to government compliance. Leave the paperwork to Pando!

It is crucial to first define one’s business and understand its industry. From there, one can establish a mission and goals. For example, Pando is a service-based company focused on elevating the success of SMB owners and their employees. Then, businesses can identify their target audiences/ideal clients and value proposition.

BUSINESS PLANNING

Follow Pando’s tips for maintaining a successful business plan:

1. Review the plan on a quarterly basis and adjust accordingly. Things change, it’s important to keep up with industry trends. Businesses must be flexible and willing to adapt as needed.

2. Continuously improve business systems, processes and tools. Leverage technology to become as effective and efficient as possible.

“Business planning is not a one-time task but an ongoing process. Regular reviews and updates allow businesses to incorporate lessons learned, adjust strategies and stay relevant in a dynamic marketplace.”
“A thoughtful business plan ensures that everyone in the organization is on the same page. It aligns individual and team goals with the broader vision, fostering a unified and focused effort toward success.”

“A business plan outlines the goals of a business, the strategies for achieving those goals and the resources required to execute. It serves as a roadmap to success, and Pando can help navigate you to success!” says Jonathan Sinkiewicz, Director of Business Development.

From country clubs to caterers, from healthcare to home builders, Pando securely scales for organizations of any size while maintaining a personal relationship between a business and its employees.

“A business plan is essentially a roadmap that outlines a business's goals, which includes a detailed strategy that needs to be executed in order to achieve those goals,” says Tyler Albers, Vice President at Cornhusker Bank. “It typically includes a projected financial analysis, management team breakdown and a clear understanding of the market in which the subject business will be attempting to sell its products.”

A well thought out business plan can serve as a crucial resource for businesses to look back on, especially relative to anticipating future challenges or helping to plan for major events. Cornhusker Bank helps businesses create the best plans by providing every solution for a business’s lifelong success.

“We try to ask as many questions as possible at the onset of the process to help clients think of scenarios that could affect the financial performance of their company,” adds Albers. “For example, “How will revenue be generated, or what is the pricing strategy? How realistic are their financial projections? What do they look like under adverse market conditions? Is there an exit strategy?”

Cornhusker Bank discusses these topics with its clients because it is more than just a financial institution; it’s a neighbor. As a member of the Lincoln community for more than 100 years, Cornhusker Bank understands the Lincoln/Omaha Metropolis and how important trusted relationships are. No matter what its needs are, Cornhusker Bank’s local ownership and decision makers are there to react and deliver quality solutions its clients can count on. Being committed to client success and satisfaction is not just a goal–it’s how Cornhusker Bank lives.

Cornhusker Bank’s 360 service model is focused on surrounding its clients with the best experience possible and strives to continuously enhance clients’ experiences each and every day to live up to being “the bank of choice” for its customers.

Business planning might sound complicated, but it doesn’t have to be! It’s simply a document that helps current or future business owners consider all the aspects of operating a business.

Developing a business plan is important; however, sticking to it may not be. One may have to pivot at any point during planning because of the competitive landscape, technological changes or other external factors that cannot be controlled. Ungridlocked can help maintain the flexibility needed to create and maintain a business plan.

One might also learn things as one goes and adapt in ways that make more sense. In other words, create a business plan, and hold it loosely, as business and technology is changing faster than most can keep up with.

“Give your first pass through AI,” says Cam Vacek, Owner of Ungridlocked. “From there, make any editing touches, and iterate as necessary.”

Vacek also suggests following the Who Not How method saying, “This concept is based on the book. I’ve learned that as I meet more people who are smarter than me, they give

me advice that I originally did not consider, and I implement their suggestions. We both don’t have to learn from the same mistake!”

Business advertising and yearly planning can be frustrating. To better prepare for 2025, turn to Short Elliott Hendrickson Inc. (SEH®), which helps government, industrial and commercial clients find answers to complex problems.

“A well-structured business plan serves as both a strategic guide and a performance measure, helping to clarify decisionmaking, align stakeholders and navigate challenges,” says Alex Smith, Community and Economic Development Manager at SEH. “Closely following a business plan ensures focus on objectives while maintaining flexibility to adapt to changing conditions. This focus is especially critical when pursuing funding assistance or forging public-private partnerships, where alignment with longterm goals plays a key role.”

As an employee-owned engineering, architectural, environmental and planning company, SEH is dedicated to aiding organizations and communities in strengthening their resilience against challenges, from natural disasters to vulnerabilities within existing infrastructure, and securing funding solutions to support strategic goals.

“I encourage clients to thoroughly analyze their market and opportunities, understand their unique value proposition and set realistic goals,” adds Smith. “Taking a tailored approach, I integrate funding strategies directly into the planning process. With experience working at the Economic Development Administration and deep knowledge of infrastructure programs, I help clients identify and secure funding that aligns with their plans and broader economic development goals.”

SEH’s expertise lies in resilience planning, collaborating closely with its clients to develop strategies that ensure structures can withstand all challenges, promoting stability and continuity.

“A well-crafted business plan is more than just a document–it’s a living framework that guides decision-making, fosters collaboration and drives success. By addressing key considerations like external factors, funding strategies and adaptability, businesses can position themselves for long-term growth. At SEH, we’re here to help clients navigate this process, leveraging our expertise to turn their vision into actionable results,” asserts Smith.

There is no one look for homelessness—and no one way toward homelessness. No matter their circumstances or reason for seeking organizational assistance, Youth Emergency Services (YES) brings Omaha’s youth to a safe space to call their own.

As part of its mission to provide housing and support to youth experiencing instability, crisis and homelessness, YES strives to help young people, aged 16-24, meet their basic needs—from food security, to hygienic maintenance, to housing and more. Through the agency’s programming pathway, youth are equipped with the necessary skills and resources to become independent and selfsufficient within the community.

1. First, struggling or homeless youth on the streets are identified by YES outreach workers and given bags of snacks and hygiene items. Youth are then also invited to enjoy a warm meal, take a hot shower and find additional resources at YES’ Street Outreach Center.

2. After proper screening, youth may then be housed at YES’ Emergency Shelter for up to 90 days, where they receive their own bedroom and support from a trained staff member to navigate personal challenges and/or apply to one of YES’ long term housing programs—Transitional Living Program or Maternity Group Home Program.

3. After completing a long-term housing program, youth can choose to receive an additional 12 month of YES services—now in their own apartment—through the agency’s Transition in Place program.

At the completion of YES’ programming, youth are equipped with the skills and resources they need to survive and thrive on their own in the community. To learn more about YES’ mission and programs, please visit yesomaha.org/youth-resources.

Our mission is simple: to empower teens, spark meaningful dialogue, and create a brighter, more compassionate future — one bracelet at a time. Support our cause at goshophiya.com.

Mosaic in Omaha’s purpose is to “love and serve,” and its mission is to “embrace God’s call to relentlessly pursue opportunities to empower people.” The values woven through our work to serve those with intellectual and developmental disabilities and others with diverse needs are Belonging, Connection, Faithfulness and especially Grit during these challenging times.

“To empower” at Mosaic means helping those we serve achieve their best or most meaningful life by providing truly specialized services to help them achieve their goals and dreams; working with those we serve to have closer ties to the community to open up volunteer and employment opportunities for them; and Mosaic standing alongside those we serve to advocate with and for them to bring awareness to issues that affect their lives and promote public policy that positively impacts them.

This empowerment of people we support ranges from helping someone communicate for the first time to helping another gain enough independence to secure a job and live in their own home. If you would like to learn more or to donate, please visit mosaicinfo. org/locations/nebraska/omaha.

Stephen Center —located in South Omaha—partners with individuals, families and the community to overcome homelessness, substance abuse and mental health concerns. Approximately 250 people call Stephen Center each day through three programs on a sober campus.

The Pettigrew Emergency Shelter serves men, women and children experiencing homelessness. The HERO Program (Health, Empowerment, Responsibility and Opportunity) is a state-licensed use and mental health treatment program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). It provides substance use evaluations, inpatient services and intensive outpatient treatment.

The third program is Stephen Center’s Permanent Supportive Housing program for those that meet income and disability qualifications. All Stephen Center clients have the support of case managers who assist them with the identification of barriers impeding self-sufficiency.

Volunteers play a pivotal role in Stephen Center’s mission, impacting clients’ lives every day. For more information, visit stephencenter.org or follow them on Facebook under the username @stephencenteromaha.
