M AT T E R S The Faculty of Education at SFU Surrey campus
The Faculty of Education has a longstanding relationship with educational institutions south of the Fraser River. Many school-aged children in the area are the students of our graduates. More than 40 years since our beginning as a founding faculty of Simon Fraser University’s mountain-top campus, our Faculty is now playing an important role in developing the university’s newest campus. We are committed to enriching and collaborating with the community through a variety of applied programs and research.

UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS
The Faculty of Education has a range of undergraduate programs for SFU students in all faculties interested in learning more about the field of Education. Opportunities range from selecting a single course elective to completing one of our many Education minors. Students who wish to become teachers must prepare their undergraduate coursework accordingly by selecting the appropriate majors and minors and then applying to the Professional Development Program (PDP). Normally, the PDP year is either a fifth year of a B.Ed. degree or part of a second degree course sequence. For complete information about Undergraduate Programs, go to www.educ.sfu.ca/ugradprogs The Foundations of Academic Literacy (FAL) is a unique university-wide initiative administered by the Faculty of Education through Undergraduate Programs. FAL was designed with the aim of enhancing the confidence and ability of SFU’s students to have a successful post-secondary experience through the development of written and oral literacy skills. For complete information about FAL, visit www.educ.sfu.ca/fal
Professional Programs in the Faculty of Education sponsors the professionally acclaimed Professional Development Program (PDP). The PDP was the foundation on which SFU built the Faculty of Education, and is a full-time, one-year program that is offered in the Lower Mainland and various communities throughout the province. We are dedicated to the development of outstanding teachers – ethically responsible and competent professionals who are committed to preparing children and youth to live as ethical, informed, and contributing citizens in a democratic, pluralistic society. Successful completion of the PDP leads to a recommendation to the B.C. College of Teachers for a B.C. Teaching Certificate. For complete information about PDP, go to www.educ.sfu.ca/pdp
