Beware Of Substandard Cables On The Market

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has issued repeated warnings to the public, to be wary of sub-standard fixed installation electrical wiring cables which are selling on the market. Inferior quality cables have been identified on the marketplace and unsuspecting customers are being duped into buying these. There are dire risks and hazards of fire that come with installation of low-grade cables

Often times, the price sensitive cable purchaser pays little attention to the quality of cables for wiring their building. A cable is just a cable, many may think. Alas, a cable is not just a cable-SIMPLE!
There are countless incidences of short circuits, blackouts, electrocutions, fires, and deaths resulting from the installation of substandard cables.
What are sub-standard cables?
Substandard cables are cables that are not designed, manufactured or test-approved to meet the requirements of safety standards. The flooding of substandard cables in the market is largely due to unscrupulous manufacturers and traders who skimp on quality and safety to produce and sell cheaper cables.
It is difficult for a layman to detect substandard cables and it is recommended for buyers to purchase their cable requirements only from a reputable manufacturer. Otherwise, seek the guidance of a qualified and certified electrical artisan.

Tips on how to prevent water getting into tanks this rainy season
Every year, the rainy season comes with the challenge of water ingress into storage tanks at fuel retail sites , resulting in fuel contamination. The following tips have been prepared to assist retailers reduce fuel contamination and subsequent customer complaints.
1. Before off-loading fuel from a delivery truck, • check that no water is present in all compartments, check that no water is present in the tank the fuel is to be delivered into.
2. Carry out water checks frequently throughout the day.
3. Visual checks should always be done Fuel should look bright and clear. If the fuel looks hazy or cloudy it’s a sign the fuel is contaminated by water.
4. Carry out stock reconciliations frequently during the rainy season to check if water is not infiltrating into the storage tanks.
5. ALWAYS use the correct type of water finding paste for BLEND.
6. Avoid carrying out deliveries when it is raining.
7. Keep in tank water level below 3cm.
8. Ensure that vent pipes have a shielded cap to protect from rain ingress
9. Ensure that the fill box is leak-proof, and the fill pipe is properly capped to prevent rain from penetrating.
10. Ensure that manholes are designed in a way that prevents the ingress of surface water.
11. Ensure that all storm drains are working properly.
12. Keep manholes free from water.
13. Ensure that all pipe fittings are tightly secured since any loo und water to infiltrate the storage tank. Engage reputable contractors to check suspected
