With a focus on fostering collaboration, the event bridged gaps between suppliers and camps, built recruitment pathways, and illuminated the vibrant ecosystem sustaining Zimbabwe’s safari industry.

The charm of the day extended to its thoughtful details. The theme, “Khaki Fever,” saw attendees donning safari-style outfits, with the best-dressed winning a prize worthy of adventure.

At just $10 for admission, the event delivered incredible value, offering a wealth of connections, knowledge and opportunities.

ZIMBABWE POSITIONS ITSELF:

As A Premier Mice Destination

The Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, through the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA), is making significant strides to elevate Zimbabwe’s position as a prime destination for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) tourism.

A key strategy in this endeavor is a strategic partnership with Fastjet and local stakeholders to promote Bulawayo as a thriving MICE hub. MICE tourism, a niche market within the broader tourism industry, focuses on attracting business travelers and event planners. It encompasses a wide range of events, including conferences, conventions, trade shows, corporate meetings, and incentive trips.

This type of tourism generates substantial economic benefits for host destinations, including increased revenue from accommodation, transportation, food and beverage, and retail sectors. Bulawayo, Zimbabwe’s second-largest city, offers a unique blend of historical charm and modern amenities.

The city boasts a rich cultural heritage, world-class hospitality, and state-of-the-art infrastructure, making it an ideal location for hosting a variety of MICE events.

To bolster Bulawayo’s MICE tourism potential, the ZTA has partnered with Fastjet to enhance connectivity between Johannesburg and Bulawayo.

This strategic move will make it easier for international delegates and business travelers to reach the city.

The facilitation of seamless travel positions the partnership to attract a larger number of MICE events to Bulawayo.

As part of this initiative, the ZTA hosted a familiarization tour for senior business consultants from Tourvest, a leading South African Destination Management Company.

The tour provided these industry experts with firsthand experience of Bulawayo’s MICE offerings, including its world-class venues, accommodation options, and cultural attractions.

The ZTA hopes to entice Tourvest to incorporate Bulawayo into its future MICE itineraries, showcasing the city’s potential. This strategic move by the ZTA is expected to significantly boost Zimbabwe’s MICE tourism industry.

Through the proper positioning of Bulawayo as a premier MICE destination, the country aims to attract a larger share of the global MICE market, generating substantial economic benefits and promoting sustainable tourism development.

ICONIC MONOMOTAPA HOTEL

Will No Longer Be Part Of African Sun Limited

The Zimbabwean hospitality industry, once a beacon of luxury and service in the region, has experienced a resurgence in recent years.

This revival is driven by various factors, including increased political stability, economic reforms, and a growing global interest in exploring the country’s rich cultural heritage and stunning natural landscapes.

As the industry continues to thrive, key players are making strategic decisions to optimize their portfolios. African Sun, a leading hotel investment company in Zimbabwe, has announced plans to sell its flagship property, the iconic Monomotapa Hotel in Harare.

The 243-roomed Monomotapa Hotel, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in April, has long been synonymous with luxury and elegance in Zimbabwe.

Situated in the heart of the capital city, the hotel offers breathtaking views, world-class dining, and impeccable service. However, as part of its ongoing business strategy, African Sun has deemed it necessary to divest this asset. Proceeds from the sale will be reinvested into other group operations and refurbishment projects. This strategic move will allow African Sun to focus on its core competencies and future growth initiatives.

Despite the sale, the group remains committed to its mission of providing exceptional hospitality experiences across its diverse portfolio of hotels.

While the Monomotapa Hotel has been a cornerstone of African Sun’s operations, the group’s extensive portfolio ensures that visitors to Zimbabwe will continue to have access to a wide range of accommodation options.

With its strategic location and strong brand reputation, the Monomotapa Hotel is poised to attract significant interest from potential buyers.

Potential For Tourism To Address Climate Change

Tourism took centre stage at COP 29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, marking a historic moment as “Climate Action in Tourism” was featured for the first time on the COP Action Agenda.

This significant development underscores the critical role of the tourism industry in addressing climate change and promoting sustainable practices.

Representing Zimbabwe at this pivotal event was the Secretary for Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Dr Takaruza Munyanyiwa. Dr Munyanyiwa’s presence at COP 29 highlighted Zimbabwe’s commitment to sustainable tourism and its active participation in global climate action initiatives.

On the sidelines of the conference, Dr Munyanyiwa engaged in a productive meeting with the Minister of Sport and Tourism from Belarus.

The discussions centred on exploring potential collaborations in the sports tourism sector, particularly focusing on designing customized tourism packages tailored to Belarus’s unique winter season.

This strategic partnership offers a wealth of opportunities for mutual growth and diversification of tourism offerings for both countries.

By leveraging Belarus’s winter sports infrastructure and expertise, Zimbabwe can introduce new and exciting experiences to its tourists, attracting visitors from diverse markets.

In return, Zimbabwe can share its rich cultural heritage, wildlife, and adventure tourism offerings with Belarusian tourists, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation between the two nations.

This collaboration not only promises to boost tourism revenue and create jobs but also contributes to sustainable development goals.

The promotion of responsible tourism practices, such as minimizing environmental impact and supporting local communities, will ensure the long-term viability of the two countries’ tourism industries.

As the world grapples with the challenges of climate change, the tourism industry has a crucial role to play in mitigating its effects and promoting sustainable practices.

The fact that both countries have embraced innovative solutions and are forging international partnerships, they can position themselves as leaders in sustainable tourism, setting an example for others to follow.
