Introduction

As the flagship European Funding programme in the field of education and training, the Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP) enables individuals at all stages of their lives to pursue stimulating learning opportunities across Europe. Comenius, part of the Lifelong Learning Programme, seeks to develop knowledge and understanding among young people and educational staff of the diversity of European cultures, languages and values. It helps young people acquire the basic life skills and competences necessary for their personal development, future employment and active citizenship. http://eacea.ec.europa.eu/llp/about_llp/about_llp_ en.php http://eacea.ec.europa.eu/llp/comenius/comenius_ en.php Although in its final phase, because Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP) was closed in the year 2013., Comenius programme connected seven schools in a project called Sporture – Sport and nature, a great and healthy adventure. During the process of evaluation, the project has collected enough points for implementation and each school got a grant from their European projects National Agency for participation in it. Sporture – Sport and nature, a great and healthy adventure project has a Ref. No. 2013-1-TR1-COM06-47864. The project is being conducted from 1 August 2013 to 31 July 2015. This book, collection of traditional games, is only one part of the project which includes tradition, heritage, gastronomy, culture, exploring natural parks.

About Comenius Sporture project G A M E S A R E I M P O R TA N T, N O W AND FOR THE FUTURE The Sporture Project joins students and teachers of different countries working in sports, nature and healthy activities. With this project we aim to provide a cultural interaction between children and to enable playing with natural materials. Students and teachers from 7 countries participate in this project; Austria, Croatia, Netherlands, Poland, Slovenia, Spain and Turkey. We all live in Europe, but we are different. We all have our customs, and what is important we don’t know each other enough. But, children are not inhibited in their contacts as adults are. That is visible in children’s games. Games are the best ways to have the first contact and to produce opportunity to get to know each other. If we got the opportunity to learn different traditional games, to discover heritage of our partner`s country, we would open new communication channels for our students on which they could build future friendships. It is important for children to have early experience of communication with different cultures both to respect different ones and to be proud of their own.

In this project we give children the opportunity to play with real friends: sweat, breathe, raise a heartbeat, get dirty in mud, move muscles, have strong bones, at the end a healthy body and a healthy mind. The project helps children to socialize, have more friends and be able to touch, eat or drink together. Those friends are real ones, not virtual. They play together whether theylose or win; they know that it is “only a game” and their psychological maturation will not be disturbed as in the computer games. We noticed the connection between games and the environment, so we organized activities and games in natural parks. We want our students and teachers to see and find natural equipment to play games. We want to show them there are other natural tools except computers, pc-video games for playing. We want them to move, to get out of their rooms, to join in cultural interaction. Learning is difficult but it is more fun by using the games. Children find themselves in situation to draw the game on the ground and show other partners the rules, explain in English or by doing and play with them together. They have to prepare videos and photos of the games in case more participants are needed. The most important part is to show, teach and play all together. When people see some children playing, suddenly, a smile appears on their faces. They feel happy without any reason. We want to share those pure feelings with everyone in the world. If you make someone happy, if you put a smile on someone’s face, everything comes easier to him/her. The best way to make children happy is to play with them. The Sporture Project aims to make children happy and look into the future more positively. We say you can have “strong mind in strong body”. So, if we want to have a healthy and strong minded future, we must play and make sports in playgrounds like our past relatives did. Healthy life starts with healthy sports activities and eating healthy food. If you play natural sports, you do not forget that you are a part of this nature and that causes you to be a natural and healthy person. The Sporture Project is not only about the games, it promotes healthy lifestyle.

GAMES CONNECT US, ALL AROUND EUROPE Playing games has a very important position in pupils’ growth, socialization and their development. Although pupils don’t speak the same language, they share the same feelings. In children’s games you don’t see people`s color or language, you don’t look at their race, nor if they are rich or poor. You just play, it isn’t important if you lose or win. You just have a good time and fun with friends, enjoy your togetherness. You learn while playing and that is a more effective wayof learning. In games, children develop different strategies: learning by watching, by training and obeying the rules; how to use free time in useful ways, to spend their energy to build up their body, to respect other players, to forbear and to be patient, to watch out for each other, to continue the game, to develop the ability to comprehend. What is more, children`s games have useful “side effects”: quick thinking, finding practical and the shortest way to solve a problem. The project motivates all participants to learn English as the official language of the project, but also other foreign languages to enrich their knowledge about other countries. It leads to a better understanding of the culture, social and economic problems of other European partner countries and connects people from different European areas. The mobility measures are leading to an enhancement of tourism and intercultural exchange. It motivates students and teachers to establish long-lasting friendships over borders and bring diverse parts of Europe closer together. All this will make an important contribution to a Europe united in peace and friendship.

But, collection of traditional games in this book is not only a useful tool for promoting and implementation of the project aims but also result of rediscovery of traditional games to the children of the modern age. Each partner team prepared a short introduction about their country, town and school. Each team chooses seven traditional games to explain and one more to widen the project beyond the partners’ countries. Let us put a smile on someone’s face - let us play together! COMENIUS SPORTURE PROJECT COLLECTION OF THE TRADITIONAL GAMES

Austria

Austria is a landlocked country in Central Europe, bordered by the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Liechtenstein, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Switzerland. About two thirds of the country is covered by the Alps, especially the western part. The eastern part of Austria is rather plain with continental climate. The rest of Austria has an alpine climate with long cold winters and rather short moderate summers. The most important cities are Vienna, Graz, Linz, Salzburg, and Innsbruck. The Danube river crosses Austria from northwest to southeast. Austria is a federal republic, divided into nine provinces: Burgenland, Carinthia, Lower Austria, Salzburg, Styria, the Tyrol, Upper Austria, Vienna, and Vorarlberg. Austria has a population of roughly 8.6 million. Vienna is the capital city and also the largest city with a population of about 1.8 million. The borders of modern day Austria date back to the collapse of the Habsburg empire after World War I in 1918. Since then, Austria has been a republic with the exception of the years 1934 to 1945 when it was under the rule of first the Austrofascists and from 1938, as a part of the German Empire, under the rule of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi regime. After the liberation in spring 1945, Austria was occupied by British, French, Soviet,

10

and US forces until 1955. With the signing of the „Staatsvertrag“ on May 15th 1955 Austria became an independent country again. Austria is a member of the United Nations and since 1995 a member of the European Union. In 2002, Austria was among the first countries to establish the Euro as their currency.

VIENNA Located along the banks of the Danube in the eastern part of Austria, Vienna is by far the largest city in Austria. During the last 20 years, Vienna has grown rapidly to a population of more than 1.8 million. Vienna is famous for its culture, mainly music and theatre, its historic buildings and monuments, and is the only city that has a cuisine named after it. Since the fall of the „Iron Curtain“in 1989, Vienna has developed into an important location for the co-operation with governments and companies in eastern and southeastern European countries.

NMS KO 50 MIDDLE SCHOOL KO 50 is a middle school (grades 5 through 8) in Vienna’s 22nd district. About 320 students attend our school at the moment and they are taught by about 35 teachers. The main focus of our syllabus lies on Information Technology (IT), Science and English. Both the students and teachers of KO 50 come from various cultural and national backgrounds. We have two English native speakers in our staff who support teachers in „Global Studies“, which are subjects like Biology, Geography, Science, Math, History etc. taught in English. Information Technology (IT) is another very important subject at our school. Students learn the basics of IT in three modern computer labs to achieve the skills to pass the ECDL (European Computer Driving License) in eighth grade.

A string has to be stretched in the middle of a playground about 1, 50 m high. There shall be two teams, each at one side of the line. The players try to throw the ball at the opponent›s side but not allow the other team catches the ball. If the ball falls to the ground, the team has a point and the others are off. Two boxes are placed on the corners of the base line and two boxes on the outside line in the halfway line. The last box is placed on the other baseline. In addition, a tire is placed in front volleyball court. There shall be two teams. The first team is in the field, the second team is at the base of the field, where there is no box. The first part of the second team gets the ball and throws the ball into the volleyball court, best go where no opposing participants and is as far away from the tire. Once the participant has thrown the ball, he runs off in the direction of the first box. The participants in the field are now trying to quickly collect the ball and throw it into the tire. If the players have reached a box (it need not be the first, it may be the second or third too), is the next of his team’s turn. He throws the ball into the box again. Now both run off and that he who has thrown, and standing on the box. Both try to reach the next box again. When they realize that they do not have time for the field team has the ball in the tire, they can also run to the next. If a participant on the fifth box - so basically at his side - has arrived, he has for his team a point brought. Should make it after having thrown himself to pass all five cases, this candidate has achieved three points for his team. The referee should write down the points. After about ten minutes is changed, that is the team that outside was going on inside and the inner team goes to the outside. The team that has the most points at the end wins.

Baseball - Brennball The game is identical to the standard Brennball, used only to a tennis ball and a baseball bat or a stick. The first party of the second team gets the baseball bat or stick in his hand. A second participant from his team throws the first player to the tennis ball. The first player now is trying to chip away the ball with the bat as much as possible. Then he puts the bat on the ground and runs off. One should note, is the rest of the crew at a distance, since it often happens that the participants do not put the bat on the ground, but throw somewhere. This variation should be playing with some older participants, as they may be more careful with the bat. Each player has to make 3 attempts of the ball. Did not he hit the ball after the third attempt, he is burned and must hire back again. Then it is the next player‘s turn. So the game is not boring because no one hits the ball, hitting should be practiced before.

The tradition of this game dates back to the 18th century. Two groups, police and robbers, have to be formed. It is not necessarily that they have the same number of players. Often only a few gendarmes and many robbers are determined (here and there by choice or by counting rhyme ). For a game you need a varied terrain of large open space with many angles and possibility for hiding. Everyone has to adhere to the agreed limits, since control is often difficult. However, if a game master (youth leaders, teachers, etc.) may be present, a minimum of compliance of the rules is guaranteed. In most cases, in the middle of this area is now in prison chosen at which the robber can approach from all sides and also have opportunities to remain undetected. The prison itself is a small, often round, demarcated >>>>>

area, which must be precisely defined, because in there the police may not enter. The gendarmes are marked in a visible way, whether by sashes or headbands, etc., so that the robbers always know who they’re talking to. After the game starts, the robbers start to spread out in all directions and hide. Thereafter, the police must seek and capture. This happens most often with a simple knocking. Now, if a policeman catches a robber, he must take him to the prison. The robber, however, can be removed by simple knocking off by another predator and free again. For a single gendarme it is hardly possible, sufficient to guard the prison well. The robber, namely, pass through this, but the policeman must always take detours around the prison. The game is over when all the robbers were caught. Sometimes can also be agreed a time in which the police have to win, otherwise the robbers are winners.

Cat and Mouse is a fishing game in a circle. Players stand in a circle and hold hands. Two players are determined; one is the cat, the other the mouse. The cat runs around the circle, the mouse is inside. The cat says the following: “Mouse, mouse, come out, or I´ll scratch your eyes out!” Thereupon the cat tries to catch the mouse. While the cat is allowed just to run around the circle, the mouse may also be in the circle inside. You may, however, only for a short stay in the circle. It is possible to enter only if the players lift their arms and let mouse in. If the mouse is caught, replace both figures roles. After some time, both of them are replaced by new players from the circle.

The catcher is the “black man” and is usually about 15 meters away from the others on the opposite side of a place or space. If he cries out: “Who’s afraid of the black man?” The children answer: “Nobody!” Then they run to that “black man” and try to pass him without being caught by him. The children who were caught by the man belong to the team of the “black man” now. The last child who wasn’t caught is the winner.

The hunter calls: “Tree, change you!” and all players have to run to another tree and seek protection. During that time the hunter tries to reach a tree. The player who is left without safety tree is the next hunter. When you are playing without trees, substitute for them can be dots or circles made with chalk on the floor or Hula Hoops laid on the ground at certain distance. This is also an indoor version.

Croatia

The Republic of Croatia is a medium-sized country geographically settled at the transition from Central to Eastern Europe. It has borders with Hungary, Serbia (Vojvodina), Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Slovenia. With Italy has a sea border at the Adriatic Sea. There are three natural regions and climate in Croatia. In continental north and northeast part with plains, lakes and rolling hills is continental climate. Sub-mountain and mountain climate is in the middle part with wooded mountains. At the coastline with more than 1200 islands and rocks the climate is Mediterranean. Croats are living in this region from the seventh century. Although not so big, Croatia has always been at important geo-strategic position. Political history begins with the rule of national rulers (9th century), but during the history of Croats associated with the Hungarian state (12th century), the Habsburg Monarchy (16th), then 1918 accessed to the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, Slovenian. Croats were one of the constituent nations of Yugoslavia after 1945. Finally, Croatia declared its independence in 1991. In the Croatian Homeland War (ended 1995.) there were integrated all the occupied areas. According to the political structure The Republic of Croatia is a parliamentary democracy. It has 21 counties

26

(including the City of Zagreb). Zagreb is a capital. According to the last census it has 4 284 889 inhabitants, 90.42% are Croats. During the Croatian history the most significant cultural influences came from the Centraleuropean and Mediterranean cultural circle. In the year 2013 The Republic of Croatia became the 28th member of the European Union.

GORNJA STUBICA Gornja Stubica is a place in the continental part of the country on the slopes of Medvednica Mountain, only 50 km from Zagreb. It is in Krapina-Zagorje County with a touristic slogan: A fairy tale at your hand. The slogan has been chosen because of green hills and more than 50 castles in this part of Croatia. Gornja Stubica is a place with more than 800 years old history. The most important historical event was peasant rebellion in 16th century. Matija Gubec was the peasants’ leader. Today it is a rural area with a lot of touristic potential based on cultural monuments and great food.

O S M AT I J E G U P C A G O R N J A S T U B I C A Matija Gubec Gornja Stubica Primary School is 152 years old. Today it consists of one main school and 4 branch schools settled in smaller villages around Gornja Stubica. There are 404 students all together, aged between 7 and 14 years and 58 teachers and employees. Matija Gubec Gornja Stubica Primary School is open for new projects of collaboration between European schools. It is important to strengthen the opinion among community that there are opportunities for quality development of young people not only in big towns but also in their own place. By participation in Comenius project Sporture students are developing competences important for lifelong learning in partnership with their colleagues, and teachers have opportunity to share professional experience with colleagues and compare different educational systems. Equally important is to emphasize that because of the school`s involvement in a project, citizens of Gornja Stubica and pupils’ parents will consider and recognize school as a modern institution, which develops the sense of European citizenship among young people.

The Netherlands is the main constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It borders the North Sea in the west and north, Germany in the east and Belgium in the west. The capital of The Netherlands is Amsterdam, the government is situated in Den Haag. The Caribbean Islands Bonaire, St. Eustis and Saba are special counties of The Netherlands. The Netherlands has a population of 16.877.351 (2014) on an area of 41.543 km², the population density is high, 0000406262 406,3/km² (2014). Over 18% of the surface is water and a significant amount of land is below sea-level. The land is protected from the water through a system of Dykes and waterworks. By gaining land, polders are created. A polder is an area which is surrounded by dykes, the water level can be artificially raised and lowered. The water level in the polder is always lower than the surrounding area.

WIERINGERWERF Wieringerwerf a small village in the polder Wieringermeer, Wieringermeer is part of Hollands Kroon (Holland’s Crown) in the province of North-Holland. The village was founded in 1931; a year after the polder had been lain dry. There are two forests several kilometers North of Wieringerwerf. The larger of the two is the Robbenoordbos and it stretches all the way to the beginning of the Afsluitdijk. The Dijkgatbos was planted on the remaining sand that was left behind after the dyke broke through. The area is a relatively poor economical area and rather thinly populated and because of this people need to look for their employment outside the municipality and have to travel long distances to get to their job.

R.S.G. WIRINGHERLANT Our school is situated in the north of Northern Holland, about 60 km from Amsterdam. We live in a rural area so we are a school on the countryside. It’s a regional school. RSG-Wiringherlant now has around 1000 pupils and a staff of about 100. In the spring and the summer almost all pupils come to school by bike. Having to cycle for half an hour just to get to school is quite normal for these pupils. Our school has several levels: from the lowest Low-level to the highest level, which prepares for university. The pupils’ age is between 12 and 18. Quite a lot of pupils have never had the chance to go abroad and are not familiar to city-life. Our school tries to promote the process of international awareness. That’s why take part in international projects: gives them the chance to travel abroad and will motivate and stimulate their learning process (especially for pupils who don’t get that many chances because of their social background). Moreover it will improve the learners’ ability to communicate effectively in English. We are a so-called Elos school. Elos, which stands for European Learning Environment in schools, is an educational concept which main aim is to prepare young people for a future in a society in which European integration and globalization are a reality. In order to integrate this approach in our curriculum and school policies we are collaborating with partner schools in Europe. R.S.G. Wiringherlant is striving to stimulate pupils to orientate on foreign countries particularly in Europe. Apart from the fact that pupils get into contact with the daily culture of a foreign country because of internalization it is also an extra incentive that pupils are “forced” to speak a foreign language in order to interact meaningfully with peers from other countries and thereby develop their speaking skills. Of course there is also the possibility for teachers to orientate at a European level.

Shuffleboard is played with wooden pucks and a wooden board. The board has two ridges on both sides and an open box with 4 small gates on the end. The purpose is to slide the discs through the gates. Each gate has a different value, ranking from one to four. After all discs have been slid, the ones that didn’t pass through a gate are used to slide for a second time. If some discs still haven’t been slid through one of the gates, they are used for a third try. After the third try, the points can be counted. To decide if a disc may be counted or not when it is near the opening, the rule is that it has to have passed the gate completely. This is an official rule and >>>>>

it’s applied at competitions and contests. A less official method is to slide your finger over the gates, if the piece moves through the gate then it will count. If a disc is completely or partially on top of another disc then that is called a 'bok', the disc can't be played anymore. The same goes for any disc that 'jumps' or leaves the board, A thin wooden plank at the beginning of the board shows how much rooms players have to slide the discs. Your hands must not pass the plank, this is also a rule.

Poland

Poland is a country in central Europe, bordered by Germany to the west, the Czech Republic and Slovakia to the south, Ukraine and Belarus to the east and, to the north, Lithuania and the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad. Poland has a long coast on the Baltic Sea and is largely dominated by low-lying rolling plains in the north. To the south, the Carpathian Mountains form a watershed and natural border with Slovakia. The Podkarpackie Voivodeship is situated in south-eastern part of the country. Unspoilt nature and beautiful landscapes of the Bieszczady Mountains are its greatest value and make Podkarpackie one of the most popular holiday destinations in Poland. Tourists will find a lot of attractions here, such as captivating landscapes, opportunities for recreation and sightseeing, hotels, and camping sites. The lovers of old architecture will find many historic castles and palaces, churches and openair museums located along "The Route of Wooden Architecture".

Slovenia

Slovenia, officially the Republic of Slovenia, is a nation state on the Adriatic Sea, bordering Italy to the west, Austria to the north, Croatia to the south and southeast, and Hungary to the northeast. It covers 20,273 square kilometres and has a population of 2.05 million. It is a parliamentary republic and a member of the European Union and NATO. Its capital and largest city is Ljubljana. The territory, located in southern Central Europe at the crossroads of main European cultural and trade routes, is mainly mountainous with mainly continental climate, with the exception of the Slovene Littoral that has the sub-Mediterranean climate and the north-western area that has the Alpine climate. Additionally, the Dinaric Alps and the Pannonian Plain meet on the territory of Slovenia. The country, marked by a significant biological diversity, is one of the most water-rich in Europe, with a dense river network, a rich aquifer system, and significant karstic underground watercourses. Over half of the territory is covered by forest. The human settlement of Slovenia is dispersed and uneven. The Slavic, Germanic, Romance, and Hungarian languages meet here. Although the population is not homogenous, the majority is Slovene. Slovene is the only official language throughout the country, whereas Italian and Hungarian are regional minority languages.

74

Slovenia is a largely secularized country, but its culture and identity have been significantly influenced by Catholicism as well as Lutheranism. The economy of Slovenia is small, open, and export-oriented and has been strongly influenced by international conditions. It has been severely hurt by the Eurozone crisis, started in the late 2000s. The main economic field is services, followed by industry and construction.

KRIŽEVCI PRI LJUTOMERU Križevci pri Ljutomeru is a settlement that is the seat of the Municipality of Križevci. It lies in the northeast of Slovenia, in the Prlekija region, extending at the bottom of the river Mura field. Its position is said to be favourable both from geographically as well as an economic point of view, because at the heart of Križevci the road intersects and splits to roads to all major cities of Pomurje: Gornja Radgona, Radenci Ljutomeru, Murska Sobota and Lendava. From that fact comes the name Križevci (križati = intersect).

PUBLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL KRIŽEVCI Our school is a public primary school which is located in Križevci with community of 16 villages with cca 3500 residents. Our school has got 31 members of staff and 289 pupils. Near the school there are many playgrounds and in the surroundings of the school there is our own playground and also a farm, so our children can enjoy a beautiful view on many horses running round. That is not unusual as the region is open and green with many forests and farms. Our pupils are mostly farmers' and workers children. Nevertheless our children spend a lot of their free time in front of the computers and TVs. Most of our pupils come to school by bus. They live in their own houses with gardens and mostly they've got their own rooms, so our social level is still quite high. That's a big part of the reason why we decided to show our children other, different kind of life. Our friendship with people that are included in Comenius project Sporture gives us the opportunity to do it. We presented other partners our life and nature in meetings, exchanges, local cultural history with dances, art, traditional music, games and projects. Doing all these tasks together we can exchange our experiences of pupils' lives and entertainment.

Spain

Spain is a country of southwest Europe on the Iberian Peninsula. Inhabited since the Stone Age, the region was successively colonized in ancient times by Phoenicians, Greeks, Carthage, and Rome. Germanic people settled in Spain starting in AD 409 but were supplanted by the Moors (711–719), under whose rule the region was noted for its prosperity and cultural development. The Moors were gradually displaced by small Christian states and were ousted from their last stronghold, Granada, in 1492. Ferdinand of Aragon and Isabella of Castile then became rulers of a united Spain, which became a world power through exploration and conquest. After the empire was lost in the 18th and 19th centuries, Spain experienced social and economic unrest culminating in a civil war (1936–1939) and a dictatorship regime under Francisco Franco. After the dictator’s death in 1975, a constitutional monarchy was established. Madrid is the capital and the largest city of our country. There is a lot of diversity in Spain, with different regions each with particular features. Some even have their own language: apart from Spanish we have the Catalonian, Basque and Galician languages, which are spoken in some parts of the country. The name of our region, Andalucía, comes from the

90

Arabic name Al-Andalus, which was originally applied by the Moors to the whole Iberian Peninsula. When they established its court at Córdoba, this area became the peninsula’s intellectual and political centre. It returned to Spanish Christian rule in 1492. In 1833 it was divided into eight provinces: Huelva, Sevilla, Cádiz, Málaga, Córdoba, Granada, Jaén and Almería. Andalucía is a mining and agricultural region, but it also features world-known beaches along the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts, being Costa del Sol (the coast of the sun) in Málaga the one attracting most tourists.

L O S B A R R I O S Los Barrios is a small town in the southwest of Andalucía. It is part of the province of Cádiz, in the Campo de Gibraltar area. The town’s name means “the districts /neighbourhoods” in English. Although the area is known to have been inhabited since prehistoric times, the town was founded in 1704 by refugees from Gibraltar. After abandoning their homes following Gibraltar’s capture by Anglo-Dutch forces during the War of the Spanish Succession, some of the inhabitants of Gibraltar took refuge in the area. Los Barrios was mainly an agricultural and fishing district until the second half of the 20th century, when became heavily industrialised.

IES SIERRA LUNA IES Sierra Luna was founded 28 years ago. Nowadays it is a huge educational institution with 78 teachers and over 1200 students. Students in compulsory Secondary Education (ages from 12 to 16) and A-levels (16-18 year olds) study in the morning from 8.30 to 15.00, while students in NVQs (16-) and over 18s who are studying to get their Certificate of Secondary Education take over from 15.00 to 21.30. Our school has a long tradition of international cooperation, having being part of different Comenius associations. The most recent one, CultHeroes, gave us the opportunity to work during the academic years 2011/2012-2012/2013 with schools in Germany, Belgium, Lithuania, Turkey and Ireland. Last year we enrolled in two associations: Sporture and Hearts, which are changing the life of our school.

Aim: To grab a handkerchief and return to your line without being touched by your opponent. First, you have to draw three parallel lines about 7-10 meters apart from each other. There are two teams with an equal number of players standing, one in front of each other along two lines. Each player of each team has a number from one to the number of players in the team. The leader places himself or herself in the central line and holds a handkerchief in his/her hand. The game starts when the leader says one number. The person from each team with that number runs and tries to catch the handkerchief. Then, there are three possibilities: >>>>

-One player grabs the handkerchief and returns to his line without being touched by his/her opponent. In this case, the person who didn’t touch the other is out. -One player grabs the handkerchief and starts running to his line, but his/her opponent touch him/ her before arriving to his/her line. In this case, the player who was touched is out. –One player crosses the central line but the leader continues having the handkerchief. In this case, the player who crossed the central line is out. When a team loses a player, another player takes his number. So, after that, there will be some players with two numbers or more. The game is playing until all the players from one team are out.

Turkey

Turkey is a bridge between Asia and Europe. At north part we have Black sea. At south part we have Mediterranean Sea. On the west we have Ege and Marmara Seas. This land called Anatolia. Our west neighbours are Greece and Bulgaria, our east neighbours are Iran, Armenia and Georgia and on the south we are neighbours with Syria and Irak. In Turkey you can find a lot of historical and touristic places, natural parks, lakes, amazing sea and warm people. Cappadocia, Nemrut, Likia, Efes are some well known of them. We have 7 regions: Marmara, Ege, Akdeniz (Mediterranean sea), İç Anadolu (Middle Anatolia), Karadeniz (Black Sea) , Doğu Anadolu (East Anatolia) , Güneydoğu Anadolu (Southeast Anatolia). Antalya is in Akdeniz region which is mostly popular because of touristic places and fruits, green houses and agriculture.

A N TA LYA Antalya is the eighth most populous city in Turkey and the capital of its eponymous province. Located on Anatolia's flourishing southwest coast bordered by the Taurus Mountains, Antalya is the largest Turkish city on the Mediterranean coast with over one million people in its metropolitan area. Antalya Province, which includes the city, is home to almost two million people and is the fastest-growing province in the country.

Turkey's industrialization and modernization has seen a complete revival of Antalya's socioeconomic and political landscape. Large-scale development and governmental funding has seen the city become a world tourism hub, hosting a record 12.5 million tourists in 2014.

KUMLUCA In Kumluca at the west part of Antalya most of the people are working on agriculture. Kumluca is 100 km away from Antalya Airport. In this part of Turkey, the nature is so virgin and untouched with a beautiful seaside, woods and mountains. It is like a part of paradise. You can also see that purity on people's face. All of the people here are happy, warm, kind, honest, respectful, helpful and they have the most known specialty of Turkish people that they are hospitable. They like and help the foreigners without expecting anything.

Pupils’ ages are from 5 to 15. We have 22 school staff and 306 pupils, 18 classrooms, science and social science laboratories, technology&design room. We have a big garden full of stone pine trees, and there are basketball and volleyball playgrounds. Our students are workers' children who are coming from different cities to work in greenhouses. Our kids’s world is so little. Some of them even haven't seen the city centre before. By this project we intend to change their dreams, lifestyle and their future expectations. They will play some country games, which they only hear the name of the countries. That will help our pupils to look more positive to the future. With "Sporture" project are trying to find common games, same games and different games all together. By same games we will show children and everyone "we are not so different from each other" and "there is not strong differences between us". By different games we will teach kids „we can learn and play same games with different languages and we can use the world's language "English".

H O W T O P L AY

Kabaddi is a team game. Two teams, each having 7 in court players, compete with each other to get higher scores. Individual brilliance is exhibited when a player raids the opponent’s court. The team spirit, the team togetherness and team strategy comes into play when an opponent raider enters your court. From your team you have to send, one player to the other teams court to raid. The raider starts from the centreline uttering aloud, “Kabaddi, Kabaddi, Kabaddi…” without any break. He would be actually running from one side to the other side of the opponent’s court trying to touch either with his hand or leg an opponent. Once he touches an opponent, he will, without breaking the “Kabaddi, Kabaddi…” rhythm come back to his court through the centreline. The people he had touched are his teams point scored. If he had touched one player, it is 1 point and if he had touched 3 players, it is 3 points to your team. The objective of your opponent, when your player is raiding them is different. They, as a team, would like to thwart the raider’s effort to score by touching any member of the opponent’s team and devise ways to trap and catch him without allowing him to get back to the center line and thence to his court. If the raider is caught and loses his chanting breath “…Kabaddi, Kabaddi, Ka…” he is considered out.

It requires two teams, defenders and chasers, and ideally 10 children (at least 5 in each team) and a large open space. A string or chalk is needed to mark out the playing area. Draw a line down the middle, dividing the field in half and put a pole or stick at the each end of the central dividing line. The members of the chasing team have to line up on the middle line, facing the different directions. Chaser can only chase defenders (the other team) on the side of pitch they are facing and only one at a time whereas defenders can run anywhere in the field. The aim of this game is actually chasing and tagging out the defender the fastest. One chaser has to stand at any of the poles at the end of the middle line and he actually starts the game by shouting “kho” and taping the back of the chaser who then tags a defender on his side of the pitch and the defender has to cross the middle line before than the chaser shouts “kho” and taps other chaser facing direction of the defender. Chaser can also run around one of the poles to get the other side of the pitch, he doesn’t always need to “kho” the other chaser. Whichever team gets the defender out the quickest wins. The description of the game is given by Mrs. Muneerah Zia, librarian from Karachi, edited by Croatian team

The goal of the game is to take away the entire opponent’ stones. When both players can’t make any more moves then the players with the most stones wins. If both players have less than three stones, it’s called a draw. At the beginning of the match, the playing field is empty and the 12 stones are in reserve. Once per turn, the player lays a new rock on a random spot or moves a small rock that’s already on the field. Movement of the rock is limited by one square left, right, above or below. Players can strike stones placed by their opponents by skipping over it. Players don’t have to skip when they can. When a rock is skipped, the player can take one rock of choice, placed by their opponent, and take it from the field. If that creates another chance to skip a rock, the player is allowed to do so and pick another rock from the field. This means a player always wins two stones. Skipping several stones at once is allowed. It is not mandatory to place all the stones first before moving stones already on the field. Edited by Dutch team

Aim: If you are the fox, you have to catch at least one of the other kids. If you are part of the rest of the group, you have to escape from the fox. The group of children gets divided into two groups: the “fox” and the rest of the group. We’re going to call them the “kids”. First, the fox and the kids stay separated by twenty feet. Then, the kids ask the fox: “What time is it, Mr. Fox?” the fox answers: “It’s one o’clock” and the kids advance one feet towards the fox. This process repeats until the fox answers: “It’s time to have dinner”. After those words, all the kids have to run away from the fox trying to come back to the starting line without being touched by the fox. If the fox catches someone, this kid will be the “fox” in the next game. If this doesn’t happen the game starts again and the fox is the same person. “What time is it, Mr. Fox?” is a traditional game from United States. This game is also known as: What time is it, Mr. Wolf? and Grandma’s Footsteps, depending of the country.
