The first project of the Living Architectures series, Koolhaas Houselife portrays one of the masterpieces of contemporary architecture, the Bordeaux House, designed by Rem Koolhaas and OMA. The film lets the viewer enter into the house's daily intimacy through the stories and daily chores of Guadalupe Acedo, the housekeeper, and others who look after the building. Pungent, funny and touching.
How much space, stuff and comfort do we really need? What if all the unnecessary things were removed and seemingly old and worn-out items were utilized? Microtopia presents islands built from garbage, tents hanging from trees, residential sleeping pods, micro-homes on wheels and experimental urban parasitic architectures envisioned through the dreams of several successful architects, builders and artists from different parts of the world as ‘housings’ for new communities free of environmental consequences. For most of us, a ‘house’ means stability, structure and permanence; however, in an age of increasing population and technological gains, today’s mobile society has resulted in a demand, or perhaps a dream, for portable dwellings fit for new settings and situations.
