FLORENCEITALY Florence University of the Arts (FUA) Florence University of the Arts (FUA) is a young, vibrant institution offering liberal arts coursework that takes a contemporary approach to international education. With small classes taught by highly qualified international faculty, FUA courses aim to enhance the social, intercultural and professional experience of each student. As an urban school, FUA is comprised of several buildings in Florence’s city center that have been refurbished to create spaces for studios, classrooms, and meeting points. In the classroom, students have the opportunity to learn with working professionals, as many instructors are critically acclaimed in their fields. Outside of the classroom, students apply what they learn to their surroundings, with ample opportunities for community engagement and hands-on learning.

Career Certificate Programs FUA Career Programs are subject-intensive sessions offering predetermined coursework for a full immersion and professional experience in a particular field. Career programs are open to traditional undergraduate students as well as nontraditional students interested in a new career. Students can enroll in fall quarter (beginner-level) or spring quarter (intermediate-level) sessions, or complete a full academic year to receive a certificate. Students may also supplement career program studies with an Italian language course or a 3 credit internship. The following Career Programs are offered at FUA: Accessory Design and Technology The Career Program in Accessory Design is for students who wish to enter the accessory design and production industry equipped with skills and knowledge from both a creative and production perspective. Students develop a distinct style, learn how to collaborate with industry figures, and create collections that reflect a strong brand identity. Eco-Sustainable Design The Career Program in Eco-Sustainable Design helps students develop interdisciplinary competencies and skills in the areas of design thinking, project development, and operations and activities geared towards sustainable design and project management. Fashion Design and Technology The Career Program in Fashion Design and Technology provides the professional training necessary for designing and creating fashion products. Students become knowledgeable about materials, construction and modeling, traditional and innovative tailoring, and creative design and style practices. Photography The Career Program in Photography is intended for students with a strong interest in photography looking to develop technical skills and imaging fundamentals while developing their own creative vision.

SAI Florence Florence is a very manageable city for study abroad students, who can regularly interact with visitors from around the world. Though Florence is an ancient city, the focal point today is its Renaissance art and architecture, which have contributed to it frequently being named one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Considered the birthplace of the Renaissance, its streets present a stunning reflection of the birth and development of modern society, which shifted importance toward the individual and creativity. Today Florence is also a busy center for art and design, and a home to top fashion, architecture and culinary delights.

Publishing The Career Program in Publishing is offered by FUA’s J School for studies in journalism, communication, and publishing, and prepares students to design, edit, produce, publish and market published media, with an emphasis on magazine and book publishing. Visual Communication The Career Program in Visual Communication exposes students to the process of designing and delivering messages and stories to diverse audiences through film, video, and emerging digital technologies. Please note that Culinary and Hospitality Career Programs are offered through Apicius International School of Hospitality (AISH).


FLORENCEITALY Apicius International School of Hospitality (AISH) Apicius International School of Hospitality (AISH) has been an internationally respected leader in culinary arts, baking, wine and hospitality for 20 years. It is the first academic entity in Italy to receive the World Association of Chef Societies (WACS) Recognition of Quality Culinary Education. Apicius offers students state-of-the-art classroom facilities paired with field experience through hands-on instructional training alongside outstanding professional teachers. In addition to its own state-of-the-art culinary and wine classrooms Apicius operates both a restaurant (Ganzo) and a pasticceria (Fedora pastry shop) staffed by students.

Students develop practical culinary skills as well as an understanding of the history and culture of Italian cuisine. Hospitality Management The Career Program in Hospitality Management offers students a unique opportunity to study hospitality in one of tourism’s most challenging and exciting cities in the world. The program integrates theory and practical experience consisting of site visits, guest lectures and internships organized to provide formative professional experiences. Italian Baking and Pastry The Career Program in Baking and Pastry provides an understanding of Italian culture and food and a solid foundation of ingredients and technical skills that are necessary for students to become professionals in the baking and pastry fields. Wine Studies and Enology The Career Program in Wine Studies and Enology offers students the required skills to become qualified critics, business managers, and salespeople in the wine industry. The program uses excellent industry relationships to offer unique applied experience with internationally respected wine producers. Please note that Design and Communication Career Programs are offered through Florence University of the Arts (FUA).

James Beard Foundation Program In this specialized 4 week program offered only in the fall, students create, plan, organize, and successfully realize a high-profile international event from a transcontinental, intercultural point of view. Coursework begins with lectures and event preparation at AISH in Florence and concludes with a week-long production and staging of an event cycle at the famed James Beard Foundation in New York City. Students are involved in all phases of event creation, with coursework covering event planning, art direction, food and wine management, food production, and wine services. This program is open to traditional undergraduate students as well as nontraditional students.

Master Certificate Programs The Master Certificate programs at Apicius are designed for individuals who are professionals in their field, and would like additional expertise. The programs award a Master Certificate at their completion. Master Certificate in Italian Cuisine (one year) The one year Master in Italian Cuisine certificate program is offered to professional chefs or hospitality graduates who wish to enhance specific skills in culinary arts. The program is designed to celebrate the outstanding mastery of cuisine that has evolved in Italy over the centuries as well as provide students with a sound understanding of the gastronomic culture of Italy. Students gain knowledge of quality products and the historical background of dishes, and the ability to interpret recipes and pair ingredients to create a balanced dish. After successful completion of the program, students receive a Master Certificate in Italian Cuisine. International Master Certificate in Baking And Pastry (Fall semester) The Master in International Baking and Pastry certificate program is offered to professional pastry chefs or hospitality graduates who wish to enhance specific skills in pastry arts in an international environment. The fall semester program is designed to celebrate the outstanding mastery of baking and pastry that has evolved in Italy over centuries. Students gain in-depth knowledge of worldwide desserts, wedding and celebration cakes, Italian gelato, artistic chocolate, and much more, while mastering product knowledge, interpretation and innovation, historical context, and dish balance. After successful completion of the program, students receive a Master Certificate in Italian Baking and Pastry.

Polimoda’s President, Ferruccio Ferragamo, is also the President of Salvatore Ferragamo, granting the school great notoriety as well as reinforcing the school’s deep connections with the Italian luxury fashion industry. Master’s Courses SAI offers twelve 9 month Master’s Courses at Polimoda in the fields of fashion design, fashion business, art direction, and design management.

Fashion Design Master’s Course Collection Design Master’s Course (9 months) The Collection Design Master’s Course develops the fashion designer by mastering all the technical skills to create a strong collection that’s fully fashioned, well finished, and merchandisable. The collection will be ready for industrialization in the classic, casual, street or another category, and presented in an original way to show the ultimate expression of a brief. Accessories Design Master’s Course (9 months) The Accessories Design Master’s Course teaches how to design and produce collections of accessories based on the long-standing, sophisticated, Italian legacy of craftsmanship. Accessories designers interpret the fetishism of fashion whilst maintaining their artistic integrity and communicating the power of a product made by hand. Fashion Design Master’s Course (9 months) The Fashion Design Master’s Course fulfills the dream of entering the world of fashion, wielding the keys of its main language. Fashion design is the personal expression of a master creator who can conceive an idea and transform it into a wearable cult piece, desired by many who are looking for change.

Fashion Business Master’s Course Fashion Brand Management Master’s Course (9 months) The Fashion Brand Management Master’s Course is for the visionary and active, creative and relational, for someone with a charismatic personality; the brand manager. This is a master in creating, preserving, and reshaping the identity of a brand, one who speaks to the subconscious and wins the battle in the consumers’ minds.

International Fashion Business Master’s Course (9 months) The International Fashion Business Master’s Course prepares students to become leaders in the business of fashion on a global scale. Fashion Retail Management Master’s Course (9 months) The Fashion Retail Management Master’s Course, offered in partnership with Gucci, develops a retail shopping experience professional. The program integrates teaching about human behavior with all the necessary tools of management, including finance, operations, distribution, buying, merchandising, floor management, product communication and commercial direction.


FLORENCEITALY Fashion Marketing & Communications Master’s Course (9 months) The Fashion Marketing & Communications Master’s Course is an analytical program to create the master planner. This is the person who gathers information from different sources, writes a marketing plan and suggests practical actions for maximizing a company’s visibility. Fashion is the most complete expression of society, and understanding its complexity is paramount for its marketing. Luxury Business Master’s Course (9 months) The Luxury Business Master’s Course is a masterpiece program on cultural business and the business of culture, to create the chief executive officer for all luxury categories. This is the one who, levering on heritage or innovation, manages companies, conquers mature or emerging markets, and makes the dream come true.

Art Direction Master’s Course Fashion Trend Forecasting Master’s Course (9 months) The Fashion Trend Forecasting Master’s Course is an innovative program for a sharp, intuitive mind, the trend forecaster. This person is a master of the future, and is constantly moving, researching and finding a golden thread between politics, economics, technology, art, music and therefore fashion. The trend forecaster is the alchemist, arousing desire with new concepts of communications and products. Fashion Styling Master’s Course (9 months) The Fashion Styling Master’s Course is a breathtaking program to create the master of the image, who’s able to dictate visuals through understanding the language of today’s aesthetic paradigms and shape the collective imagination of tomorrow. This is an icon-maker, who works closely with designers, video-makers, photographers and artists.

Design Management Master’s Course Creative Direction Master’s Course (9 months) The Creative Direction Master’s Course is a wide and deep program shaping the newest evolution of the fashion designer, the creative director. This is one who leads a design studio, the identity of a fashion brand, as well as special projects in the society of the spectacle, with the typical sensory and conceptual approach required from art management. Fashion Buying & Product Management Master’s Course (9 months) The Fashion Buying & Product Management Master’s Course is a tangible program to form an expert in fashion products; someone who can research, plan, and organize an entire product lifecycle. To develop, manage and market a product line requires the ability to understand materials, details and the rituals of garment construction, while incorporating a certain degree of sensitivity.

ROMEITALY John Cabot University (JCU) Since 1972, John Cabot University (JCU) has offered students from around the world the opportunity to pursue an exceptional academic and cultural education in the heart of one of the most inspiring cities in the world. JCU is accredited in the U.S. by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, and offers a liberal arts curriculum taught entirely in English. The school draws professors from around the world who are committed to a multicultural environment, and to imparting a global understanding.

SAI Rome Regarded as a birthplace of Western civilization, Rome is a major tourist destination, although it maintains an authentic and traditional atmosphere in the peace of its small streets and the splendor of its piazzas bursting with life. Study abroad students are quickly swept up into the profound history of the enchanting city. Visitors can enjoy the Mediterranean sunshine in a beautiful park, savor a gelato on the Spanish Steps, or study art history overlooking the Trevi Fountain.

Graduate Summer Program This unique graduate-level 5 week summer program offers students who hold a bachelor’s degree a deep-dive into creative writing and literary translation. The program, developed in collaboration with American University’s Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing, brings together notable faculty with award-winning writers in the heart of the Eternal City. Students enroll in one of the four workshops offered in poetry, fiction writing, literary translation, and literature for creative writers.

Art History Master’s Degree The Master of Arts (MA) in Art History at JCU guides students toward professional mastery of the materials and methods of art history with emphasis on first-hand research in the museums, monuments, and archaeological sites of Rome. The degree can be completed in approximately fifteen months of full-time study, and awards a US-accredited MA degree. The program has a dual focus: the visual cultures of Rome and the Mediterranean across time, from antiquity to the present; and the acquisition of technical skills for primary research. It also stimulates critical perspectives on the history of Roman art worldwide.


MILANITALY Nuova Accademia Di Belle Arti (NABA) Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti (NABA) was founded in Milan in 1980 and is the only design school in Italy accredited by the Italian Ministry of Education. NABA instructors are world-renowned artists, professionals, and designers working in Milan. NABA subscribes to the philosophy that creativity is best cultivated in an international atmosphere, and welcomes students from around 60 different countries. The school is located in the Navigli area of Milan, and uses 12 buildings to provide exceptional equipment and studio space for its 2,000 students. NABA is among the member institutions of the European League of Institutes of the Arts and the International Council of Fine Arts Deans, which consists of members from over 800 international art and design universities.

SAI Milan Milan is the industrial, commercial, and financial center of Italy and a leading global powerhouse. The city of Milan presents a harmonious fusion between stunning historical monuments such as the Milan Cathedral, cutting-edge fashion and design seen in the fashion district of Quadrilatero dell Moda, internationally recognized music and performance in noteworthy theaters, and the financial district of Porta Nuova teeming with powerful executives. Students in Milan can enjoy the city, as well as easily travel to nearby treasures such as the Italian Alps, Lake Como, and the remarkable canals of Venice.

Fashion and Textile Design Master’s Degree (two years) The MA in Fashion and Textile Design at NABA is an intensive projectbased degree program that integrates mentorship experience with leaders in the field. Students explore innovative fashion tools and manufacturing processes and the myriad creative possibilities they afford. Students develop the capacity to translate ideas into their own fashion language, and learn to analyze and critique fashion design at a high level. Interior Design Master’s Degree (two years) The MA in Interior Design at NABA helps students explore the boundaries and constraints of the world of interior design, acquiring and widening their knowledge, critical awareness, and original thinking. Students develop a highly experimental attitude to pursue innovation both in theory and practice, through an interdisciplinary design approach.

Master’s Degrees SAI offers 3 one year and 5 two year Master’s Degree programs at NABA conducted in English and accredited by the Italian Ministry of Education. The one year programs focus on the academics, while the two year programs integrate intensive work on real-world projects. Creative Advertising Master’s Degree (one year) The Academic Master’s in Creative Advertising is a joint initiative between NABA and Media Design School, New Zealand. Students develop core skills in copywriting, story telling and art direction, to create advertising campaigns across different types of media. Leading companies challenge students with workshop briefs designed to provide a working knowledge of advertising context. Contemporary Art Markets Master’s (one year) The Academic Master’s in Contemporary Art Markets provides students the tools to interpret art market structures and dynamics, with particular focus on contemporary artistic languages. The program puts students in direct contact with internationally acclaimed art galleries, auction houses, art fairs, institutions, collections and art centers. Photography & Visual Design Master’s (one year) The Academic Master’s in Photography and Visual Design integrates theoretical study with laboratories and project workshops to prepare students to become professionals in their field. Students complete an internship as part of the program in a publishing company, editorial office, photo agency, gallery, or photo studio.

Product Design Master’s Degree (two years) The MA in Product Design at NABA prepares future designers and provides them with a contemporary approach to design, which originated from the Italian design culture. The program explores the ideas and strategies of professional designers and helps students develop their own personal design identity. Students analyze new reference scenarios on innovative topics and design or re-design objects through fostering an experiential and physical relationship with them. Communication Design Master’s Degree (two years) The MA in Communication Design helps students develop business communication skills from both the economic and artistic dimensions. Coursework provides a solid understanding of integrated marketing communications, including analog graphic design and the latest computer graphics programs. Students also learn photography, web design, digital video, and integrated new media, as well as the fundamentals of brand design, advertising, and journalistic writing. Visual Arts & Curatorial Studies Master’s Degree (two years) The MA in Visual Arts and Curatorial Studies is the only program in Europe that combines a rigorous education in visual arts production with highly specialized curatorial training. Students explore visual culture, visual arts and performance, exhibition design, contemporary art management, curatorial studies, and art criticism, as well as arts writing and communication.

Fashion Promotion, Communication & Media Master’s Course (9 months) The Fashion Promotion, Communication & Media course trains participants in technical and theoretical notions needed to create a professional communication campaign through the study of fashion and luxury marketing management, public relations, social media and advertising. Fashion & Luxury Brand Management Master’s Course (9 months) The brand manager’s role is to motivate, create desire, and build trust through various channels in merchandising, marketing and communication to meet the expectations of a luxury brand’s vision and strategy. The Fashion & Luxury Brand Management course provides in-depth knowledge of branding, specifically for the fashion and luxury goods industries.

Master’s Courses SAI offers 14 Master’s Courses at Istituto Marangoni, Milan. Courses last nine months, and students earn a diploma from Istituto Marangoni. Fashion Design Womenswear Master’s Course (9 months) The Fashion Design Womenswear course cultivates the design creativity, individual style and personal vision of participants while they respond to the rapidly evolving landscape of fashion through a series of projectbased activities that reflect different aspects of industry practice. Fashion Design Menswear Master’s Course (9 months) The Fashion Design Menswear course is for those looking to gain advanced skills in menswear collection design, together with industry preparation in order to become experts in managing and developing innovative designs for a fashion brand, or individual collection in this fast growing field of apparel. Fashion Styling, Photography & Film Master’s Course (9 months) The Fashion Styling, Photography & Film course trains participants to become visual image experts with advanced skills in photography, fashion film techniques, styling and publishing, focusing on advertising, catalogues, fashion magazines and photo editorials, for both offline and online media.

Contemporary Fashion Buying Master’s Course (9 months) From the design showroom to the store, the fashion buyer plans the purchasing of seasonal items, identifies upcoming trends and chooses the right product and brand mix. This course uses business models, innovation, new media and technology in the global buying process, to determine product selection and purchasing methods. Fashion Product Management Master’s Course (9 months) The Fashion Product Management course trains participants in advanced production processes and product management skills, analyzing the marketing strategies and production methods necessary to create a successful fashion collection. Fashion Start-up Master’s Course (9 months) The Fashion Start-up course is designed to train future managers and leaders of the fashion industry to understand, analyze and run the key areas of a fashion and luxury start-up. The course covers fashion business, fashion marketing & communication, and fashion law.

The Master’s in Information Design combines visual design, data analysis and creative coding.
