STUK, EEN HUIS VOOR GELUID Als Huis voor Geluid wil STUK vanaf dit seizoen de aanzet geven tot een nieuw en ambitieus verhaal: een geluidswerking met twee stromingen die op een natuurlijke wijze door elkaar vloeien. Wat goed is houden we: STUK draait al jaren mee als concertplek voor (experimentele) popmuziek en biedt een podium aan startende kunstenaars en gevestigde namen. Een plek waar de avontuurlijke concertganger nieuwe trends kan ontdekken en de eerste concerten op Belgische bodem kan meepikken van artiesten die later grote podia zullen sieren zoals Nils Frahm, Jon Hopkins, Future Islands, … Lucky you! Met de tweede invalshoek die past in de hervorming van STUK naar Huis voor Dans, Beeld en Geluid, maken we het nog spannender. We gaan op zoek naar de fluïde grenzen tussen geluid en muziek. De Franse schrijver Victor Hugo zei: ‘La musique

c’est du bruit qui pense’. Exact… wat maakt van geluid eigenlijk muziek? Geluid is letterlijk ‘wat men hoort’ en is gebonden aan een context en een ervaring. Muziek kan men omschrijven als geluid dat ‘georganiseerd’ wordt en waarnaar men in een concertsetting gaat luisteren. Die concertsetting hoeft niet per se staand of zittend. Het luisteren naar muziek kan bijvoorbeeld ook liggend, zoals tijdens de Slaapwel Records/Dauwmorning-labelnights. Of tijdens een yogasessie/geluidsmeditatie onder begeleiding van ambientpionier Laraaji. Door in te grijpen op de setting verandert de manier waarop men als luisteraar een concert gaat beleven. Geluid wordt meer dan luisteren, het wordt een zintuiglijke ervaring… je kan geluid ook voelen en zelfs proeven. Niet enkel STUK zelf richt zich op het onderzoek naar de grenzen tussen muziek en geluid,

maar ook de artiesten die aan bod komen in die tweede stroming. Een aantal van hen draaien mee in het ‘popcircuit’, maar kijken vanuit een onderzoekende en verdiepende manier naar muziek. Net als hun collega-muzikanten die vertrekken van geluidskunst en nieuwe muziek vinden zij hun inspiratie bij avant-gardecomponisten en pioniers van de elektroakoestische muziek, maar ook in hedendaags wetenschappelijk onderzoek naar geluid. Via lezingen en Q&A’s willen we je als muziekliefhebber laten kennis maken met geluid als fenomeen. Tijdens Artefact is er bijvoorbeeld het MusicMakers Hacklab met geluidskunstenaars Peter Kirn en Darsha Hewitt die muziek en technologie verbinden via instrumentenbouw. Naast het raakvlak tussen experimentele popmuziek en geluidskunst zijn er de boeiende speelvlakken tussen geluid en dans en geluid en beeld. Dankzij de uitbreiding van het luik geluid spelen we in op de natuurlijke

manier waarop de disciplines zich ten opzichte van elkaar verhouden en onlosmakelijk verbonden zijn. STUK als Huis voor Geluid wordt ‘the place to be’ voor de muzikale avonturier!

STUK, A HOUSE FOR SOUND As a House for Sound, STUK wants to start telling a new and ambitious new story: a sound programme with two currents that naturally flow through one another. We won’t change what was good already: STUK has been an interesting concert venue for years, offering a stage to young artists and household names in (experimental) pop music. A place where the adventurous concert goer can discover new trends and watch the first Belgian concerts of artists who will become major acts, like Nils Frahm, Jon Hopkins, Future Islands, … Lucky you! The second approach within the reform to a House for Dance, Image and Sound makes it even more exciting. We will examine the fluid borders between sound and music. French writer Victor Hugo once said: ‘La musique c’est du bruit qui pense’. Exactly … what in fact turns sound into music? Sound is ‘what we hear’, bound to a context and an experience.

Music can be described as sound that is ‘organized’, listened to in a concert setting. That does not have to be standing or seated. You can listen to music while lying down, like during the Slaapwel Records/Dauwmorning labelnights, or during the yoga session/sound meditation with ambient pioneer Laraaji. By changing the setting, you change the way listeners experience a concert. Sound becomes more than listening, it turns into a sensorial experience. You can also feel sound, or even taste it. Not only STUK focuses on the research of the borders between music and sound, the artists working within that second approach do so too. A number of them are part of the ‘pop scene’, but also look at music from an exploring and in-depth angle. Just like their music colleagues who start from sound art and new music, they find inspiration in avant-garde composers and pioneers of electro-acoustic music, as well as in contemporary scientific sound research. Through lectures and

Q&As they want to introduce sound as a phenomenon to you, the music lover. For instance, Artefact presents the MusicMakers Hacklab, where sound artists Peter Kirn and Darsha Hewitt link music and technology through instrument building. Next to the intersection of experimental pop music and sound art, there are interesting areas between sound and dance and between sound and image. With the extension of the sound programme, we anticipate the way these disciplines are related and inseparably connected. De New Yorkse ambientpionier en meester in meditatie LARAAJI presenteert zijn nieuwe project The Peace Garden, een workshop/concert dat yoga-oefeningen combineert met luisteren. LARAAJI creëert een bedwelmende trip met lach- en ademhalingsoefeningen en zachte stretching naar een uitgesponnen en overweldigende geluidsmeditatie (Savasana). Geen paniek, je hoeft zeker geen yogameester te zijn om deel te nemen. Connect with your inner Peace Garden in this integrated workshop/performance environment by ambient pioneer and meditation practitioner LARAAJI. Call-response chanting, gentle stretching and laughter breathing postures lead you to Savasana, followed by an immersive music performance with zither, gong, chimes and vocals

Drie jaar na A Gentleman’s Agreement keert Dez Mona terug naar de roots, met de stem van Gregory Frateur en contrabas van Nicolas Rombouts als basis. Het resultaat heet ORIGIN en wordt in STUK live voorgesteld samen met het vaste Dez Monakwartet: accordeonist Roel Van Camp (DAAU), drummer Steven Cassiers (Dans Dans), multi-instrumentalist Tijs Delbeke (Sir Yes Sir) en gitarist Sjoerd Bruil (Black Cassette). Three years after A Gentleman’s Agreement, Dez Mona go back to the roots: Gregory Frateur’s voice and Nicolas Rombouts’ double bass form the base of their new album ORIGIN. The rest of the musical picture is painted by the regular Dez Mona quartet: accordionist Roel Van Camp (DAAU),

Het Berlijnse label Miasmah staat voor ‘Music for scenes and places’: jonge artiesten en gevestigde waarden die elk op hun manier muziek maken met een zeer filmisch karakter. Present in STUK: sounddesigner en Slowdivedrummer Simon Scott, Abattoir Fermé-componist Kreng met klarinettist Gareth Davis, James Welburn en labelbaas Erik K. Skodvin aka Svarte Greiner.

De Schot Alasdair Roberts is een ervaren rot in het vak: naast heel wat samenwerkingen bracht hij ook werk uit als Appendix Out en later onder eigen naam. Roberts vermengt eigen songs met interpretaties van Schotse traditionals, en creëert tijdloze songs rond de combinatie van zijn unieke stem en zachte fingerpicking. Lyenn keert solo terug naar STUK met nieuw materiaal - een nieuw album volgt begin 2016.

Is een open soundlab dat tijdens het jaarlijkse Artefactfestival (februari 2016) een week lang zal neerdalen in STUK. Gastheer en gastvrouw van dit labo zijn Peter Kirn van CDM (createdigitalmusic.com) en geluidskunstenares Darsha Hewitt (darsha.org). Zij nodigen muzikanten, geluidskunstenaars, liefhebbers … uit om samen te werken en nieuwe technieken uit te testen rond het thema van Artefact. Koken met technologie en geluid! Een open call volgt in september! Is a week-long open collaborative laboratory hosted by Peter Kirn of CDM (createdigitalmusic.com) and sound artist Darsha Hewitt (darsha.org) that will take place during Artefact festival (February 2016). Samen met 30 CC, Erfgoedcel Stad Leuven en KU Leuven Dienst Cultuur presenteert STUK Elsewhere: een nieuwe reeks concerten op buitengewone locaties in de stad, met artiesten wier werk zich situeert op de grens tussen muziek en geluidskunst. De aftrap van de reeks doen we in het Stadhuis met Schotse sounddesigner John Lemke en het neoklassiek droneproject Innerwoud van Gentenaar Pieter-Jan Van Assche. The kick-off of the series will be held in the city hall with Scottish sound designer John Lemke and Innerwoud, the neoclassical drone project of Pieter-Jan Van Assche. The concert night starts with a tour of the building.

ONDERTUSSEN IN HET HUIS VOOR DANS EN BEELD IN THE MEANTIME IN THE HOUSE FOR DANCE AND IMAGE Het is natuurlijk geen geheim dat de kunsten vandaag meer dan ooit hybride zijn. In de fricties tussen dans, beeld en geluid ontstaan vaak interessante projecten. Alvast twee aanraders uit het programma dans en beeld. It is absolutely no secret that today, more than ever, the arts are hybrid. In the frictions between, dance, image and sound interesting projects often appear. Therefore, here are two hightlights of the programmes dance and image. expo

AERNOUDT JACOBS HELIOFOON

23 SEP — 14 OKT STUK VERBEECKZAAL + TUSSENPLATFORM — GRATIS Geluidskunstenaar Aernoudt Jacobs presenteert Heliofoon. Een installatie ontworpen om naar het geluid van de zon te luisteren. Het principe is simpel: energie van de zon wordt omgezet in geluid, zonder elektronische versterking. Met Heliofoon creëert Jacobs een muziekstuk voor de zon waarbij de tonaliteit van de installatie steeds verandert met de sterkte van het licht. De term ‘omgevingsgeluid’ krijgt op die manier een heel andere dimensie.

With Heliophone, sound artist Aernoudt Jacobs presents an installation that turns sunlight into sound. The basic principle of Heliophone is simple: energy from the sun is transformed into sound without electronic amplification. With Heliophone, Jacobs created a sound piece for the sun; the tonality of the installation constantly changes depending on the intensity of light. In this way, the notion of ‘environmental sounds’ gains an entirely different connotation.

STUK, EEN HUIS VOOR DANS In september opent STUK als Huis voor Dans, Beeld en Geluid. Als danshuis trekt STUK alle registers open: vanaf nu is STUK dĂŠ danshub in Leuven waar hedendaagse dans in al zijn facetten een plek krijgt. STUK gaat hiervoor in zee met een aantal Leuvense partners die elk hun expertise binnenbrengen: 30CC (Dubbeldans en Rode Hond), fABULEUS (Werking Jong Publiek), Mooss (danseducatie), WISPER (danscursussen) en de KU Leuven (danstheorie). Hedendaagse dans kent vele gezichten. De diversiteit die zo eigen is aan hedendaagse dans willen we met jou delen aan de hand van een reeks zorgvuldig geselecteerde voorstellingen. In Dubbeldans worden producties voor de grote zaal (30CC) aan meer intieme, kleinschaliger voorstellingen (STUK) gekoppeld. Met Encore! duiken we in het recente verleden en hernemen we spraakmakende, internationale dansvoorstellingen. Stuk voor stuk parels die hun waarde hebben bewezen en nog steeds actueel zijn. Voorstellingen die je absoluut niet mag missen. Met de Werking Jong Publiek openen we de deuren voor kinderen en jongeren. De integrale danswerking van fABULEUS komt naar STUK. Voor het familiefestival Rode Hond stelde STUK het dansluik samen. Ook de scholenwerking wordt grondig aangepakt: naast de reguliere avondvoorstellingen biedt STUK schoolvoorstellingen aan tijdens de schooluren via schoolmetcultuur.be. Samen met vzw Straatrijk werken we aan een traject rond urban dance en hedendaagse dans. Dit najaar strijkt Straatrijk neer in het STUKcafĂŠ met een tweede DansBAaR: een battle-avond waarbij verschillende dansstijlen met elkaar in de clinch gaan.

Tot slot is er het vertrouwde festival Playground dat al negen edities lang het spannende grensgebied tussen de podiumkunsten en beeldende kunsten verkent. De recente belangstelling van de beeldende kunstwereld voor dans en vice versa vindt zijn weerklank in het programma. STUK wil een ontmoetingsplek zijn voor hedendaagse dans. Een huis met vele kamers, waar iedereen een ingang vindt. Naast het overzicht van de voorstellingen vind je in deze brochure ook info over alle initiatieven die je aan het dansen of het denken zullen zetten: inleidingen en nagesprekken, workshops en cursussen en een gloednieuwe collegereeks danstheorie. We kijken ernaar uit om je te verwelkomen. Want uiteindelijk zijn de nieuwe plannen pas echt realiteit als jij in de zaal zit en de delicate uitwisseling tussen kunstenaar en publiek tot stand komt. STUK, A HOUSE FOR DANCE In September STUK will reopen as a House for Dance, Image and Sound. As a dance house STUK pulls out all the stops: as of today, STUK is the dance hub of Leuven where contemporary dance in all its forms takes to the stage. To achieve this STUK is collaborating with several Leuven-based partners, each bringing their specific expertise: 30CC (Dubbeldans and Rode Hond), fABULEUS (Young Audience Programme), Mooss (dance education), WISPER (dance courses) and the KU Leuven (dance theory). Contemporary dance has many sides to it. We aim to share its unique diversity with you through a series of carefully selected performances. In Dubbeldans productions designed for the main stage (30CC) are matched with performances of a more intimate, smaller scale (STUK). We delve into recent history with Encore! and recapture widely-discussed international dance performances, each gems in their own right, which have already proven their value and are still relevant today. Performances truly not to be missed. We open our doors to children and teenagers with our Young Audience Programme. The complete dance programme of fABULEUS is coming to STUK. STUK has also put together the dance programme for the family festival Rode Hond. We are also developing our programmes for schools: alongside the regular evening performances, STUK is programming exclusive performances for schools in collaboration with schoolmetcultuur.be. Together with vzw Straatrijk we work on a trajectory in urban and contemporary dance. This fall, Straatrijk returns to STUKcafĂŠ for the second DansBAaR: a battle night where different dance styles go head-tohead.

Last but not least, we continue with the staunch festival Playground that, for nine editions already, explores the thrilling overlap between the performing arts and visual arts. Recent interest from the visual arts into dance and vice versa is reflected in this programme. STUK aims to offer a meeting place for contemporary dance. A house of many rooms, where everyone can find a point of entry. Alongside an overview of the dance performances, in this brochure you can also find information about all sorts of other events that will either get you up on your feet dancing or set your mind at work: introductions and discussions, workshops and courses, and a brand new series of lectures on dance theory. Zombie Aporia investigates the intricate connection between dance and music. It seeks to discover possibility within apparently impossible contradictions: music that is the result of dancing, emotional expression that begins physically, spontaneous feelings that are designed, words that give more of a sense of vibration than meaning. The dancers and the public share the space. Arranged in an ellipse, the public embodies the boundary of the theatrical space. The skin forms the fourth wall. Social acts, such as shaking hands and high fives, are interspersed with classic choreographic patterns that we can experience ‘up close’. The ellipse arrangement creates a dynamic between centre and periphery, intimacy and distance. AH/HA explores the formal language of the laughing body and its range of accompanying emotions. The smile can unexpectedly transform, and it often masks feelings of sadness, discomfort, fear or shock. The sophisticated interplay of movement and soundscape evokes the physical and psychological impact of laughter on the viewer.

FEU is een dansante voorstelling waarin een danseres weerwerk biedt tegen de live muziek van Zwerm, een elektrisch gitaar- kwartet dat de rigueur van klassieke composities verbindt met een experimentele pop- en rockattitude. Inspired by the figure of Antigone, Etienne Guilloteau creates a solo about resistance. Antigone is the epitome of the tragic battle; she listens to her conscience rather than obeying the law. FEU is a dance performance in which a dancer offers resilience to the live music of Zwerm: an electric guitar quartet that connects the rigour of classic compositions with an experimental pop and rock attitude.

Christian Rizzo draws from the rich tradition of Mediterranean dance. The result is a choreography for eight male dancers who weave ancient gestures with a leitmotif from Rizzo’s oeuvre, the falling body. The cadence is determined by two live drummers playing a cross between tribal rhythms and a psychedelic rock concert. D’Après une histoire vraie was enthusiastically received in Avignon, 2013.

Pieter Ampe houdt van conflict en van duetten. Toen hij een voorstelling mocht maken met Alain Platel als coach, koos hij voor zijn broer als tegenspeler. De spanning is vooral onderhuids aanwezig. De broers bestuderen elkaar nauwgezet, als in een spiegel. Ze dansen, zingen, lopen, strijden, maar kunnen toch niet zonder elkaar. Door het perfect gevoel voor ritme ontaarden de eenvoudige handelingen in hilarische momenten. Een voorstelling over broers en bij uitbreiding elke mogelijke relatie. The brothers Pieter and Jakob Ampe study each other very closely, as if in a mirror. The dancer discovers his voice, the singer learns about his body. The brothers dance, sing, walk and fight, but not without each other. Moreover, there is something that binds them; their penchant for dry humour. A preference that they just want to share with you. In Fractus V, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui explores the shadowy grey area between information and propaganda, between objectivity and manipulation. Verklärte Nacht is gebaseerd op Schönbergs laatromantische compositie van het gelijknamige gedicht van Richard Dehmel. Tijdens een door de maan verlichte nachtwandeling bekent een vrouw aan haar geliefde dat ze zwanger is van een andere man. Nu eens zwaar beladen met passie, dan weer kwetsbaar als een verlegen stem.

Als danser, als co-choreograaf en als assistent gooide de Portugese Helder Seabra hij de voorbije jaren hoge ogen in verschillende Vandekeybus- en Cherkaoui-voorstellingen. Hij timmert nu aan zijn eigen stijl, die in de lijn ligt van het danstheater van Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. Een fascinerende mix van melancholie, poëzie en een uitbundig joie de vivre met live muziek van Maya’s Moving Castle. Ondanks de titel wat ons betreft absoluut een hoogvlieger.

Verklärte Nacht is based on Schönberg’s late-romantic composition of Richard Dehmel’s poem of the same name. During a moonlit walk a woman tells her beloved that she’s fallen pregnant by another man. At times heavily loaded with passion and then as fragile as a timid voice. As a dancer, but also as a co-choreographer and assistant, the Portuguese Helder Seabra has had very successful collaborations in various performances by Vandekeybus and Cherkaoui. He is now developing his own style, which is in line with the dance theatre of Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. A fascinating mix of melancholy, poetry and an exuberant joie de vivre, with live music from Maya’s Moving Castle. The birds are perhaps flying low, but for us this is a high-flyer!

In deze energieke en intieme choreografie verbeelden acht jongeren de observaties van een jong meisje over het spel van de liefde. De relatie van een koppel komt zwaar onder druk te staan wanneer ze een oudere jeugdvriend en een jong meisje in huis nemen. Wat begint als een spannend experiment, ontwikkelt zich al gauw tot een explosief mengsel van verwachtingen en jaloezie. In this energetic and intimate choreography, eight young people depict a young girl’s observations about the game of love. A couple’s relationship is put under pressure when they take in a childhood friend and a young girl. What begins as an exciting experiment quickly develops into an explosive mixture of expectation and jealousy.

Slow Sports Kids, a fun and successful dance performance for children. The piece originates from the movements found in the world of sports. It also shows the game of action and reaction between athletes, reporters and spectators. Slow Sports Kids provides a new perception of both sport and dance. A performance for the sportsperson and supporter in all of us.

In Solo danst Maria Hassabi een intens duet met een Oosters tapijt. Ze plooit het tapijt, klimt, kruipt en tilt het op. Het tapijt wordt architectuur, gebedsmatje, een tweede huid, een intieme minnaar. De focus ligt op het fysieke, op precisie en beheersing van lichaam en object. Extra Shapes van DD Dorvillier is tegelijkertijd dans, een concert voor luidsprekers en een lichtshow. Het podium is verdeeld in drie velden: geluid blijft aan de ene kant, licht in het midden, dans aan de andere kant. Een identieke loop van 17 minuten wordt drie keer herhaald, waarbij het publiek rond het werk draait en van perspectief wisselt. Sonja Jokiniemi onderzoekt in Hmm op speelse wijze de vorming van taal. Ze gebruikt hiervoor o.a. klanken en herhaling. In plaats van betekenis te geven, tast haar taal in het rond, maakt geluiden en vormt uiteindelijk een chaotisch muzikaal geheel. Maar dan licht er toch een verhaal op...

Playground is an open space for artists who are not bound to one particular discipline. They combine elements of installation, text, film, sculpture, architecture or choreography. They bring the human body and objects together in live performances and create visual images that reflect upon art, the world and the mediatisation of life. Playground presents a diverse range of artworks, performances and experiments from the fascinating overlap between the performing arts and visual arts. In recent years, within the visual arts world there has been increased interest in dance, and vice versa. This reciprocal interest is reflected in the programme. In Solo, Maria Hassabi dances an intense duet with an Eastern carpet. She pleats the carpet, climbs and crawls across it, and lifts it up. The carpet becomes architecture, a weapon, a prayer mat, a second skin, an intimate lover. The performance revolves around the physical, on the precision and control of the body and the object. Extra Shapes by DD Dorvillier is simultaneously a dance performance, a concert of loudspeakers and a lightshow. The stage is divided into three equal parts: the sound stays on one side, light in the middle and dance on the other side. An identical loop of 17 minutes is repeated three time. Sonja Jokiniemi playfully explores the form of language in Hmm. Among other things, she uses sounds, repetition and the physical aspects of language. Rather than applying meaning, her language feels its way, produces sounds, and builds up into a chaotic musical unity. But there’s also a story to be found.

Playground is een vrijplaats voor kunstenaars die zich niet aan één discipline binden. Ze combineren elementen uit installatie, tekst, film, sculptuur of choreografie. In live performances brengen ze objecten en lichamen samen in visuele beelden die reflecteren over kunst, de wereld en de mediatisering van het leven. Voor de negende keer brengt Playground een diversiteit aan kunstwerken, voorstellingen en experiment in het boeiende veld tussen podium en beeldende kunst. De laatste jaren is de interesse van de beeldende kunst wereld voor dans en vice versa toegenomen. Dat vindt zijn weerklank in het programma.

DANSBAAR STRAATRIJK EN STUKCAFÉ

ZA 17 OKT — 20:00 — STUKCAFÉ – GRATIS Voor de tweede maal presenteren Straatrijk en STUKcafé DansBAaR: een uniek dansen partyconcept. Dansduo’s bestaande uit dansers met verschillende dansstijlen nemen het tegen elkaar op in een originele 2on2 battle. Breakdancers met hopen battle-ervaring worden gecombineerd met dansers en danseressen uit verschillende stijlen zoals ballet, modern, twerking, tapdans, newstyle hip hop, … De eerste editie leverde alvast vuurwerk op. Duo’s kunnen zich nog steeds inschrijven via de Facebookpagina van STUK. For the second time Straatrijk and STUKcafé present DansBAar: a unique dance & party concept! Dance duos with different dance styles compete with each other in exciting 2on2 battles. Breakdancers with lots of battle experience are combined with dancers who are specialized in ballet, modern, twerking, tap dance, hip hop ... The first edition was a huge success. Het Departement Culturele Studies van de KU Leuven en STUK richten samen het vak ‘Hedendaagse dans: theorie & analyse’ in. De studenten worden er ingewijd in de belangrijkste tendenzen van de hedendaagse dans. Na een grondige inleiding over de hedendaagse dans in de 20ste en de 21ste eeuw volgt een capita selecta met verschillende gastdocenten. Ook hier zal STUK actief verbindingen realiseren tussen de lessen en de voorstellingen. Een aantal colleges zijn toegankelijk voor het bredere publiek. Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker en Meg Stuart zegden hiervoor al hun medewerking toe.

The Cultural Studies department of the KU Leuven and STUK join forces and offer the course ‘Contemporary Dance: theory & analysis’. Students are initiated in contemporary dance’s most important tendencies. After a thorough introduction on contemporary dance in the 20th and 21st century, several guest lecturers will give capita selecta. STUK will realise active links between the course and the dance performances. Some classes will be open for the broader public. Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and Meg Stuart already confirmed their presence.

ONDERTUSSEN IN HET HUIS VOOR BEELD & GELUID IN THE MEANTIME IN THE HOUSE FOR IMAGE & SOUND Het is natuurlijk geen geheim dat de kunsten vandaag meer dan ooit hybride zijn. In de fricties tussen dans, beeld en geluid ontstaan vaak interessante projecten. Alvast twee aanraders uit het programma beeld en geluid. It is absolutely no secret that the arts are more hybrid than ever. In the frictions between, dance, image and sound interesting projects often appear. JOACHIM KOESTER THE PLACE OF DEAD ROADS

23 > 25 SEP — STUK EXPOZAAL — GRATIS De video installatie The place of dead roads neemt je mee naar een donkere onderwereld; de ‘weg van de doden’. De Deense kunstenaar Joachim Koester transformeert de typische bewegingen uit de ‘Western’ wereld tot een vreemd soort dans. Dansers Pieter Ampe (zie p. 9), Boglarka Börcsök, Liz Kinoshita en Halla Olafsdottir nemen poses aan, trekken en richten een pistool, vallen aan en verdedigen in een schijnbaar oncontroleerbare stroom van schokkende bewegingen en expressies. This video installation by Danish artist Joachim Koester takes us on a journey to a subterranean world; a ‘road used by the dead’. Koester transforms the typical movements from the Western world into an odd kind of dance. Dancers Pieter Ampe, Boglarka Börcsök, Liz Kinoshita and Halla Olafsdottir take on different poses, draw and aim their gun, attack and defend in a seemingly uncontrollable stream of jerky movements and expressions.
