EN The Young Audience programme brings a healthy bit of swagger to STUK. Since last year we’ve been offering high quality performances and educational activities that connect with the world of children and youths while challenging adults as well. Got a taste for dance? You can take part in a series of educational workshops. Our Young Audience programme focusses on different ages. In this flyer you’ll find all activities for this season and their respective target age.

NL STUK haalt met de werking Jong Publiek een gezonde dosis branie binnen. Sinds vorig jaar bieden we kwaliteitsvolle voorstellingen en educatieve activiteiten aan die aansluiten bij de leefwereld van kinderen en jongeren maar die ook volwassenen uitdagen. De smaak te pakken? Je kan ook zelf aan de slag in een reeks workshops. De werking Jong Publiek richt zich op verschillende leeftijden. Deze flyer bundelt alle activiteiten voor dit seizoen en geeft telkens een richtleeftijd mee.

EN Digital native or not? This interactive hopping game stimulates young and old. No need for chalk or stones – when you enter one of the highlighted areas, the game starts automatically. Depth cameras, heaps of software and smart projections follow the movement and turn this age-old game into a cross-media experience.

EN The space is filled with coloured geometrical shapes that create an intriguing world where different rules apply. The dancers play with the distance between you and them. Is it an arm’s length, a foot or a finger? Are you close or far away? And how does that feel? Together you discover the connections between people and the influence others have on you. Every performance is followed by a free visual workshop.

NL De ruimte is gevuld met gekleurde en meetkundige vormen die een eigen, bijzondere wereld scheppen waarin aparte spelregels gelden. De dansers spelen met de afstand tussen jou en hen. Is het een armlengte, een voet of een vinger? Ben je dichtbij of net ver weg? En hoe voel je je daarbij? Samen ontdek je de verbondenheid tussen mensen en de invloed van anderen op jezelf. Na iedere vertoning is er een gratis beeldende workshop.

EN A performance about the mythical composer Luciano Berio and his muse. You hear a comic book put to music, take part in the elegant mixing of different composers and get to listen to wonderful folk songs. The musicians guide you through the history of music, push some musical boundaries and introduce you to Berio’s muse Cathy Berberian. You’ll find out that the music world is a powder keg of creative possibilities.
NL Je hoort een gezongen stripverhaal, neemt vak kundig deel aan het mixen van verschillende componisten en krijgt heerlijke folksongs voorgeschoteld. De muzikanten gidsen je doorheen de muziekgeschiedenis, verleggen ondertussen wat muzikale grenzen en laten je kennismaken met Berio’s muze Cathy Berberian. Je komt erachter dat de muziekwereld een kruitvat vol creatieve mogelijkheden is.

EN Niet drummen is a music theatre performance filled with catchy rhythmical music and amazing figure play. Marbles, spheres, balls, drums, water, … A silhouette artist, a flute and sax player and a percussionist take you on a magical discovery of sounds, music and rhythms. Young and old enjoy a visual concert. Rock ’n’ roll and poetry.
NL Niet drummen is een muziektheatervoorstelling vol aanstekelijke ritmische muziek en verwonderlijk figurenspel. Knikkers, bollen, ballen, drumvellen, trommels, water … Een schaduwbeeldkunstenaar, een fluitist-saxofonist en een percussionist nemen je mee op een magische ontdekkingstocht van klanken, geluidjes, muziek en ritmes. Jong en oud, klein en groot genieten van een beeldend concert. Rock ’n’ roll en poëzie.

EN You hold a small mirroring instrument under your eyes that makes you feel as if you’re walking on the ceiling, across the boarding, the wall painting or the arches. This simple intervention has a big physical impact. Try to keep your balance as you make your way from the reception, through the hall, on to the inner courtyard.
NL Onder je ogen hou je een ‘soort’ spiegelinstrument waardoor het lijkt alsof je over het plafond loopt langsheen de betimmering, de schildering en de gewelven. Dat eenvoudig instrument heeft een grote fysieke impact. Probeer je evenwicht te bewaren terwijl je je een weg baant van het onthaal, doorheen de hal, naar het binnenplein.

EN POPCORN is a dance performance with the impact of a pop concert. An intense showdown between three male dancers and a live drummer. Everything revolves around the irresistible power of the beat, but silence is also important. POPCORN is a visual and musical trip in which the experience of dance is brought to a climax; to the point where not only the dancers are in motion.
NL POPCORN is een dansvoorstelling met de impact van een popconcert. Een intense krachtmeting tussen drie mannenlijven en een live drummer. Alles draait om de onweerstaanbare kracht van de beat. Maar ook van de stilte. POPCORN is een visuele en muzikale trip waarin de beleving van dans op de spits wordt gedreven.

EN RATS emerges from a clash between different worlds: the dynamics of a gang of youngsters stood across from an adult woman. The spontaneous outbursts of dance battles in contrast with thought-out compositions. But moreover, the confrontation between all possible forms of urban dance (breakdance, house, hip hop, popping, locking, …) and contemporary dance (floorwork, partnering, release, …).
NL RATS ontstaat uit de clash tussen verschillende werelden. De dynamiek van een bende jongeren tegenover een volwassen vrouw. De spontane uitbarstingen van battles tegenover een uitgedachte compositie. Maar vooral: de confrontatie tussen alle mogelijke vormen van urban dance (breakdance, house, hip hop, popping, locking …) en hedendaagse dans (floorwork, partnering, release …).

EN Dancing, reading and scanning through Wikipedia, eight performers, from ages 14 to 21, try to get to grips with the contents of an old book. A married couple invite a friend and a niece to live with them. The four of them soon fall in love and an explosive blend of expectations and jealousy develops. The dancers translate their analyses of the book into impassioned dance. Think of it as a book review, but with kissing.
NL Dansend, lezend en struinend door Wikipedia, proberen acht jongeren tussen 14 en 21 jaar vat te krijgen op een oud boek: een gehuwd stel neemt een vriend en een nichtje in huis. Algauw worden ze alle vier verliefd en ontwikkelt zich een explosief mengsel van verwachtingen en jaloezie. De dansers zetten hun boek analyse om in hartstochtelijke dans. Zie het als een boek verslag, maar dan met zoenen.

KABINET K / HET PALEIS EN Horses is a dance performance with untameable energy, in which five children and five adults meet. Small and grown-up share eagerness and amazement, and above all an unshakeable trust in one another. Horses is about wanting to be grown-up and wanting to remain a child, about power and vulnerability, about carrying and being carried. To live music the dancers look for symbiosis, a unique bond with an Other, like a jockey and his horse.

NL In deze dansvoorstelling met een ontembare energie zien we vijf jonge kinderen en vijf volwassenen. Klein en groot delen gretigheid en verwondering en bovenal een onwankelbaar vertrouwen in elkaar. Horses gaat over groot willen zijn en over kind willen blijven, over macht en kwetsbaarheid, over dragen en gedragen worden. Op livemuziek zoeken de dansers naar een symbiose, een uniek verbond met de ander, als ruiter en paard.

NL Benieuwd om het werkproces van de makers aan den lijve te ondervinden? Dat kan in een aantal dansworkshops die we samen met Mooss of de kunstenaars zelf organiseren. In de paasvakantie organiseren we twee bijzondere workshops waar ouder en kind samen aan kunnen deelnemen. EN Are you curious to find out how artists create a performance? NL Nelsons dansboek is een doe-het-samen-boek voor kleuters en ouders vol prikkelende spelletjes om samen te bewegen en je eigen dans in elkaar te knutselen. Danscoach Dafne Maes geeft dansworkshops voor ouders en hun kind vanaf 4 jaar.
NL In deze workshop geven de deelnemers elkaar een korte massage op een aangepast geluidslandschap. Een ontspannende installatie die ouders en kinderen dichter bij elkaar brengt via beeldtaal, lichaams contact en geluidskunst.

EN In this workshop participants give each other a short massage to the tunes of a sound landscape. This relaxing installation connects parents and children through visual language, bodily contact and sound art.
EN Nelsons dansboek is a do-it-together book for toddlers and parents, filled with exciting games to move together and construct your own dance. During the Easter holidays dance coach Dafne Maes gives dance workshops to parents and their children of 4 years and older.
