STYLE COUNSEL Stylist Instagram Guide
INTRODUCTION Instagram is a key tool when working in fashion and styling. Whether you use Instagram to promote your work, blog or experiences it is important to know how to use it to enhance your career. Here are our top tips for growing your following and finding work on the gram.
BE CONSISTENT Post at a set time on set days that work for your followers. You can use an app called Iconosquare to analyze when your followers are online and are most likely to engage with your posts. Learn what your followers like, so look into which photos of yours have the most likes. Note down whether flat lays get fewer likes than an outfit picture etc. Use the same filter on your images for consistency on your feed. Apps such as VCSO let you save your favorite filter or a custom filter so you can edit your in images the same way each time you post.
BE INTERACTIVE Reply to as many comments as you can so your followers know that you appreciate their engagement with your post. Try to get to know them so they stay loyal. Engage with other peoples content and make useful connections as you never know who you will meet online.
BE AUTHENTIC Stay true to yourself, remember that people are following you for who you are. Show 'behind the scenes' on Instagram stories, followers love to get to know people beyond the perfectly posed images on their feed.
THE MAIN SQUEEZE
NAIL YOUR CONTENT Create content in bulk so that you have content to post even when you don't have time to shoot anything.Â
Make the most of opportunities to shoot content, if it is a day out or a day with another stylist/blogger who can help you shoot.Â
Plan what you are going to post and when this will help you to schedule content (Buffer is a great app for that) meaning you can stay consistent on Instagram even if life gets a bit busy.
FINDING WORK Treat your feed as your CV by demonstrating what you are made of! Showcase your work by posting images on set, of models you have styled or clients. Reach out to people who you want to work with, and include your email address in your bio so they can contact you. Know your stats, get to know your reach, engagement, and following via an Instagram Business account or an app called Iconosquare.
