Live theatre returns to the heart of Rochdale

Hands up who has missed seeing a show over the past year and a half? Ok, Ok, quieten down, we have too! What’s not to love about live theatre? The excitement as the lights go down... the tingle as the orchestra strikes up... and then... relax and be entertained as a piece of unique theatrical magic begins. A wondrous escape from modern day troubles, a chance to be transported into a new, fantastic world for a couple of carefree hours.

Fortunately, Rochdale Musical Theatre Company (formerly Rochdale Amateur Operatic Society) have persevered with virtual get-togethers, online and socially distanced rehearsals, to bring the uplifting show Legally Blonde the Musical to Champness Hall Function Room, Rochdale, in October 2021. This feel-good, all singing, all dancing romantic comedy is the perfect remedy for those who have been longing for a night out at the theatre.

Rochdale Musical Theatre Company Chairman Dan Killeen explains, "All of the committee at Rochdale Musical Theatre Company (RMTC) are delighted that we are able to bring musical theatre to the centre of Rochdale through our partnership with The Champness Hall Trust. After all of the COVID challenges of the past 18 months, we are hoping that our production of Legally Blonde will bring lots of joy and laughter to the people of Rochdale. The cast and production team are working really hard to bring you a show that you will never forget. We look forward to welcoming you to the Champness Hall Function Room in October."

Many may be familiar with the iconic movie, Legally Blonde, which was based on the 2001 novel by Amanda Brown and starred Reece Witherspoon.

Originally premiered on Broadway in 2007, the musical production went on to be a commercial and critical success when it opened at the Savoy Theatre in the West End in 2009. The show picked up the Olivier Award for Best New Musical – and with high energy dance routines and toe tapping songs it is easy to see why!

The story revolves around sorority president Elle Woods, who appears to have it all, however, Elle’s life is turned upside down when her boyfriend, Warner, dumps her so he can attend Harvard Law. Determined to get him back, Elle charms her way into the prestigious school. With the support of some new, loyal friends, Elle overcomes her struggles with peers, professors and her ex. Elle quickly realises her potential and discovers that she can use law for the greater good. With oodles of pink, a pinch of sass and bucketfuls of frivolity, this show is guaranteed to Ellevate (do you like what we did there!?) your mood and put a smile on your face. A show not to be missed!

If you fancy a cheeky drink and something to nibble as you watch the show, then you will be glad to know that food and drink will be provided at Champness Hall Function Room by the Flying Horse Hotel.

RMTC are proud to be working in partnership with Rochdale Style Magazine, What’s Occurrin’ Rochdale?, The Flying Horse, Legacy Dance Academy and Storage World.

Legally Blonde the Musical runs between 1st - 9th October at Champness Hall Function Room, Drake Street, Rochdale. Please see website for dates and times.
