Fashion: Key trends for cosy season

Mollie here.. I'm back with my second article as Fashion Editor for Rochdale Style Magazine and this time I am here to share some of my favourite styling tips for the season ahead!

While it may feel like we have been in the depths of autumn for several months all thanks to the British Summer, the season has actually only kicked off a few weeks ago and we couldn’t be more excited to be indulging in the cosy season!

The fashion industry is everchanging, so I am hoping this mini breakdown will help you shop confidently whilst heading into the busiest months of the year.

FOUR KEY TRENDS TO FOLLOW FOR THE SEASON AHEAD;

PUFFERS - The puffer jacket is set to have a real moment this A/W - it is the ultimate winter warmer. Unlike previous years, this year's puffer trend is all about keeping it simple and wearable. From a short boxy style to a statement maxi puffer to team with all your dresses and jeans. For me the bigger the puffer the better, I like to feel like I am walking around in a sleeping bag... or is that just me?! Staying warm has never been so chic and easy.

MEGA KNITS - This is the perfect trend for the comfort enthusiasts out there, and also those still trying to navigate themselves out of your lockdown wardrobe. Knitwear is of course always a big trend as soon as autumn comes around, but for this A/W it is bigger than ever, including maxi’s, endless layers, cosy accessories - there’s no limit to knitwear this A/W.

WINTER BOOTS - Is there anything more exciting than a fresh pair of winter boots, after all they are going to be your ally during the colder winter days. After the monotony of our lockdown wardrobes, there has been a shift to more brightly hued pieces; in boot terms this has translated to comfort, practicality and ease, this is going to have a starring role in your day to day life. The chunky ankle boot is a must for this season, polished enough to team with all your dresses but will pair just as easily with jeans!

SPARKLE, SPARKLE - For those who are ready to go all out after last year’s quieter affair this trend is for YOU. Let me introduce you to the sparkle, sparkle trend. This doesn’t have to mean sequins, it just means that one style that makes you go “Can I really wear this?” before you remember YES, yes you can. Think glittery, flared, shimmery and in all honesty anything that is going to make you feel amazing!

MY PERSONAL TOP TIPS - Accessorise, accessorise. It’s so easy to add a little something more to any outfit, whether it's a chunky scarf to add a pop of colour to your outfit or a statement necklace to add that extra touch to your out-out outfit. My advice to you is to invest in classic winter essentials then add something fun to your wardrobe with your accessories!

Lastly, shop early, shop small, shop happy!
