Feeder rocks as Rochdale festival turns up the ‘Feel Good’ factor More than 14,000 people packed Rochdale town centre for the annual celebration of music, food and family entertainment that is Rochdale Feel Good Festival. The town centre was filled with an array of entertainment for the Rochdale Borough Council organised event, headlined by rock band Feeder. The main stage was opened in style by operatic pop duo KAZE, followed by international singer/songwriter Anna Pancaldi, R&B artist [ K S R ] and Lancashire pop trio High Wyre. Battle of the Bands winners Scuttlers enjoyed a glorious reception, followed by another local favourite – Rochdale indie dance/funk band The Alchemists. Manchester rock band VALA made a

triumphant Rochdale debut and Last Race Home got an amazing reception from an already packed crowd. New country act Emily Faye played summer festival friendly tracks from her debut EP ‘Here I Am’. Caribbean pop act The Curious Incident followed, with their cool music and charismatic lead singer Kairo getting everyone dancing. Seven-piece Manchester ska band The Uplifters made a welcome return and Britpop infused indie rock legends Cast delivered a greatest hits set. Headliners Feeder walked on stage to a phenomenal reception from around 9,000 festival goers, opening their set with optimistic indie gem - ‘Feeling a Moment.’ The band, fronted by Grant Nicholas and Taka Hirose, played as many of their best

known hits and album favourites as they could squeeze into their 75-minute set, including ‘Just The Way I’m Feeling’, ‘Buck Rogers’,‘Tumble and Fall’ and ‘Just a Day.’ The festival’s food and drink village was very busy throughout with traders selling delicious dishes, street food and much more. The Family Zone transformed The Esplanade into a children’s playground and was packed throughout the day with The Actual Reality Arcade - a life-sized interactive game zone proving especially popular. Large crowds gathered to watch shows including the Urban Astronaut and Bicycle Ballet will presented their ‘Strictly Cycling’ show. There were impressive live performances from local groups including Skylight Circus and Cartwheel Arts.

Coronation Street’s

KATIE MCGLYNN

Rochdale girl Katie McGlynn has firmly established herself on the Street, having played Sinead Tinker for the past six years. Since joining Corrie in 2012, Katie has found herself at the centre of many dramatic storylines but will it finally be happy ever after for her and Daniel now that they are engaged with a baby on the way? Style caught up with Katie to discuss life in soapland, getting the giggles on set and how she gets ‘red carpet ready’...! 4

style exclusive

Style: Are there any similarities between you and your character Sinead? Katie: I think we are both a bit odd. I’m terrible at sewing and I’m not very creative like she is! I’d like to think we have the same values in life. We’re both a bit quirky in our own way. Describe her in three words… Kooky, kind & creative! What’s coming up for Sinead? I can’t say too much but the trials and tribulations of being pregnant, for her and Daniel. Do you think she will make it down the aisle? I hope so yeah. I’ll be upset if she doesn’t make it down the aisle this time! What has been your favourite scene or storyline so far during your time on the street? I liked all the who pushed Ken stuff! I just really enjoyed the whole set up of it because we didn’t even know who had done it. I think a lot of people thought you were guilty...! Yeah I know, so I quite enjoyed that. When I was filming, I was acting as though I’d done it so it was really fun! Who do you most enjoy having scenes with? I really enjoy having scenes with Rob who plays Daniel because we get on and work well together. We have a laugh as well. I love Lisa who plays my Auntie – she’s actually like my Auntie in real life so it’s like being on set with family, it’s really nice. I’ll also always be close to Sam who plays Chesney, we’re like brother and sister, we just laugh all the time! It’s been sad though because we haven’t had scenes together like we used to and it was so funny when me and him used to get the giggles. It was a while ago now but when we were shooting the scene in the Bistro, where Chesney proposed to Sinead, something just tickled us and we were crying laughing for ages!

Do you laugh a lot on set? Yes, and it’s the worst feeling ever when you’re on set and you know you have to be serious and something makes you laugh! You laugh more because you’re not allowed to laugh! It’s like being a kid at school again when you’re getting told off. You always look very glamorous the red carpet! What are your top style tips? Either boobs or legs! Never both at the same time!! And Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs is amazing – it looks like you’ve got tights on. It covers corned beef legs like mine! Being in the public eye, do you feel pressure to look good 24/7? I guess so, it depends where I’m going. When I’m walking down the street I don’t mind really but when I’m going to a red carpet event I like to look half decent.

www.issuu.com/stylemagazine

Would you ever do ‘the jungle’? I’d love to do the jungle if it wasn’t actually on tv! I’d love to be challenged and it looks really fun but I don’t think I could deal with being filmed in the camp with loads of people. ...Dancing on Ice? Oh no I’m too clumsy, I’d just fall – I know I’d break something if I went on that! My mum would be having kittens everytime I came on! Are you planning to stay on the cobbles? Yes I think so – whatever happens, happens. I’m not really much of a planner! What’s the best thing about Rochdale? I love all the countryside and Hollingworth Lake. And there’s so many lovely people in Rochdale.

KEVIN

KENNEDY

Actor and musician Kevin Kennedy is best known for his role as Coronation Street favourite, hapless assistant supermarket manager, Curly Watts; a character he played for 20 years. However, for the past 14 years, Kevin has been busy establishing a name for himself in theatres across the country, including stints in the West End. Style caught up with Kevin to discuss his years on the cobbles, those ‘I’m A Celebrity’rumours and his latest role in the UK tour of Rock of Ages which lands in Manchester at the end of September.

ROCK OF AGES runs from Tues 25th-Sat 29th September 2018 at The Opera House, Manchester. For tickets, call the Box Office on 0844 871 3018 or visit: www.atgtickets.com/venues/opera-house-manchester Performance Times: Tues – Sat Evenings 7.30pm. Thurs and Sat Matinees 2.30pm. 8

Style: How are rehearsals going for Rock of Ages? Very well indeed, hard work but lots of fun.

with Rock of Ages until Christmas, then I’m in panto with Sam Bailey in Leicester and I’m back with Rock of Ages in the New Year until July.

A rock musical sounds like it’s right up your street?! This combines both my love of acting in live theatre, so I’m enjoying it.

Are you looking forward to the tour coming to Manchester? As ever I’m so looking forward to coming to Manchester, it’s my city and my people and we know how to have a good time. Is it true you were once in a band with Johnny Marr from the Smiths? Johnny and I were plucky 14 year old’s in a band called the “Paris Valentinos”. I’m pleased to say he’s still my friend. What has been your favourite job up to now? I thoroughly enjoyed Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, as a father of 2 girls (aged 9 and 7 at the time) it was cool to have a flying car. Do fans still shout Curly at you?! Yes and long may it continue! I’m very proud of what I did in Coronation Street the storylines I was involved in.

How would you describe your character, Dennis? Dennis knows everything there is to know about sex, drugs, and rock n roll. He’s a rock encyclopedia. Your costume looks lots of fun?! My costume is completely bonkers! I’d say it’s a cross between Romeo & Juliet, Spinal Tap and The Rocky Horror Show! What can audiences expect from the show? This show is designed for one thing and one thing only – to ensure the audience have the best possible time. A great story with great music. It’s very funny. Nowadays I just think to myself ‘what am I going to have the most fun with?’ and this just looks like a ball from beginning to end. The tour kicks off in a couple of weeks, do you enjoy touring? Yes, for the last 14 years I’ve done so many theatre tours. The only time I’ve really sat still is the four occasions I’ve been in the West End. I’m touring

Morley (Reg Holdsworth) which I really enjoyed. Then I had the storylines with Raquel that tugged at the nation’s heartstrings. The writers wrote brilliant stuff for me. Would you like to return to the cobbles one day? It’s no secret I would love to return to Coronation St, however we will have to wait and see. Would you ever consider reality tv? There’s been rumours you might be heading to the jungle? My wife tells me frequently that under no circumstances should I do reality tv. I wouldn’t mind but she says my constant bad language and strange sense of humour would have me ejected within 15 minutes. You’ve talked openly before about your 19 years of sobriety. What advice would you give to anyone who finds themselves battling addiction? No matter what you might be addicted to, drugs, alcohol, shopping, anything - you’re not on your own. All you’ve got to do is take that first step and speak to someone. It’s the first step that’s the most difficult. Once you’ve got that first foot on the road then it’ll become easier. Take your courage in both hands and ask for help. There’s a lot of shame and guilt attached to addiction and I think the more people in the public eye that come out and admit they’ve had problems, the more accessible recovery will be. What advice would give to aspiring actors? Turn up knowing it… and sober!

Why do you think Curly was such a popular character? He was just a nice, normal bloke and had the same ups and downs as normal people go through. I think people could relate to him. What was your favourite storyline from your time on the street? I was very lucky and had lots of great knockabout comedy with Ken www.issuu.com/stylemagazine

What would you love to work on in the future? You know what, I’ve no idea and I think that’s the secret! I quite like it like that. I’ve been very lucky and lots of different jobs have come my way – farces, plays, musicals, cruise ships, arenas, telly, travel programmes. I’m always learning new skills and trying new stuff and I’m not really scared of that anymore. There was a time when I was scared of everything but now I just think ‘you’re only here once let’s give it a go!’. 9

THEATRE COMPANY PRESENT SMASH HIT MUSICAL Following the success of The Full Monty, Rochdale Musical Theatre Company will be bringing the smash hit musical, RENT, to Rochdale, performing at Heywood Civic Centre from Tues 20th-Sat 24th Nov 2018. Set in 1989 in the East Village of New York City, RENT follows a year in the life of a group of young artists falling in love, finding their voices and living for today! This landmark musical has become a pop cultural phenomenon. Uplifting and inspiring with songs that rock, RENT promises an unforgettable night out! The rock musical RENT, with music and lyrics by Jonathan Larson, is the groundbreaking show that ran on Broadway for an incredible 12 years. Jonathan Larson worked for seven years on the musical which includes portraits of his friends, the artists and addicts in his neighbourhood of New York City, young people on the edge of poverty and in the shadow of AIDS. Tragically and unexpectedly, Jonathan Larson died of an aortic aneurysm on the night of the final dress rehearsal at the New York Theater Workshop. The show opened in February 1996, two & a half weeks after Mr Larson’s death. The critics were ecstatic and everyone in town, including celebrities like Steven Spielberg were scrambling to get tickets. The original cast included Idina Menzel (singer of the Oscar-winning song ‘Let it Go’ from Disney’s Frozen). Sadly, Larson never saw the success of RENT as it went on to win the Tony Award for Best Musical and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

RENT features incredible music including the beautiful, ‘Seasons of Love’ and ‘I’ll Cover You’. The musical is based loosely on Puccini’s opera La Bohème as it incorporates similar musical themes, plot twists and even lyrics from the opera. RENT will enthral audiences with its vibrant talented cast and its universal message of hope. RENT has become the definitive musical for older teenagers, parents, twenty-somethings, fifty-somethings – you name it. So whether it’s your first time or your 10th, there’s NO DAY BUT TODAY to experience this groundbreaking theatre experience. Rochdale Musical Theatre Company are raising awareness of and supporting local charity, Early Break, with this performance of RENT. Early Break offers free advice and support for young people and families with substance misuse related issues. (From the Company that brought you The Full Monty!) LOTTERY GIVES GREEN LIGHT FOR FIRE SERVICE MUSEUM TRANSFORMATION

Plans to redevelop Rochdale’s Greater Manchester Fire Service Museum are firing on all cylinders, with the National Lottery approving a £1.7m grant to transform the space. The success of the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) bid, means the museum, which is currently located in a workshop in the grounds of Rochdale’s old fire station in Maclure Road, can now move into the fire station itself, a 1930s art deco building, which will be restored and turned into a major visitor attraction. In a further boost for the scheme, the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, which owns the fire

12

station, has gifted the building to the council, which supported the bid, to enable more money to be ploughed into the project. The money will help create a brand new exhibition space on the ground floor of the building, which will take the museum’s floorspace from around 200 square metres to over 1,200 square metres. The proposals will also enable the museum to increase its opening

hours, which could boost visitor numbers from 5,000 to 15,000 a year. A new café and education centre will be built to support more school visits and paid posts will be created to help manage the museum, which is currently staffed by volunteers. The council is also looking to create office space in the building to support small businesses, in a

move which could create 100 jobs and be worth £40m to the local economy over the next ten years. Nathan Lee, Head of HLF North West said: “It’s fantastic news that, thanks to money raised by National Lottery players, we are able to support the restoration of this wonderful 1930s fire station and bring it back into community use as a museum dedicated to telling the story of one of the most important public services in Greater Manchester.” Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, said: “I’m very pleased to support the development of this fantastic project in Rochdale. The revitalised Rochdale Fire Station will breathe new life into this important town centre gateway and be a catalyst, along with other projects like the Heritage Action Zone, for the borough’s on-going regeneration and development.”

Touchstones and the Pioneers Museum.” Councillor Allen Brett, leader of Rochdale Borough Council, said: “This is yet more good news for Rochdale, as we near the end of our £250m transformation programme and get ready to embark on our next phase of regeneration, which will see us invest a further £150m.” Bob Bonner, curator at the museum, said: “This is the news we have all been waiting for and means we can fulfil our dream to relocate he museum into the right setting, the wonderful Maclure Road Fire Station. “It’s a fantastic endorsement of all the hard work done by the volunteers here over the last 35 years and we are all looking

forward to seeing the project come to fruition.” The council and museum trust will now start the process of appointing architects and designers, with work expected to start in summer 2019. The brand new museum is due to open to the public in summer 2020. There will a number of opportunities for residents to volunteer as the project progresses and enjoy behind the scenes tours.

Councillor Janet Emsley, cabinet member for culture and neighbourhoods at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “It’s great to see both the National Lottery and the Mayor investing in the future of our borough in this way. With their generous support, we will create a fantastic visitor experience right in the heart of Rochdale which will celebrate the long and proud history of the Greater Manchester Fire Service and complement our wider cultural offer, which also includes www.issuu.com/stylemagazine

‘ALIVE AFTER FIVE’ CAMPAIGN BOOSTS TOWN CENTRE REVIVAL

In the new era of the town centre renaissance, Rochdale is quickly building a reputation for heartwarming food and drink with its vast selection of welcoming pubs, bars and restaurants. The ‘Alive After Five’ campaign is designed to ensure the town centre is vibrant after 5pm by promoting Rochdale’s wide variety of exciting food and drink outlets.

If wine or gin is more your tipple of choice, Vicolo del Vino has a range of specialist wines and gin from around the world.

Paul Ambrose, town centre manager, said: “Over the last few years, the food and drink offered in the town centre has grown considerably with the likes of the Medicine Tap and the Wellington opening. The town centre is fast becoming known as a great place to wine and dine with friends. “Recently, we had some German beer enthusiasts visiting, as they had heard we were the cask ale capital of Britain. There are over 60 cask ales

All venues are within a five-minute walking distance of each other. Councillor John Blundell, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Business, Skills & Employment, said: “We have many fantastic pubs, bars and restaurants who work hard, and they deserve this recognition and local support... Rochdale is currently undergoing extensive regeneration, and what better way to show off what our flourishing town centre can offer? Support your local economy and see what Rochdale has for you.” Heidi Crompton, who runs The Baum, and manager Dan Brett, said: “This is all about bringing the community spirit back to Rochdale... It’s

14

dispelling that myth that you need to travel into Manchester for a good drink. There are loads of really good places locally that strive for high standards and high quality. Rochdale is comfortable and homely, which is a feeling you just can’t get anywhere else.”

Geoff Dardis, general manager at the Medicine Tap, said: “We are all looking forward to bringing Rochdale ‘Alive after Five’. We are all in close proximity to one another, come down and discover all the great places Rochdale has to offer.”

IT’S NICE UP NORTH...

EVERYONE KNOWS THE NORTH IS BETTER THAN THE SOUTH. IT’S JUST FACT. IT WAS THE BIRTHPLACE OF THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION. PLACES LIKE HARROGATE, SKIPTON AND THE WIRRAL CONSISTENTLY TOP ‘HAPPIEST PLACE TO LIVE IN THE UK’ LISTS. WE HAVE PROPER PINTS, WE SAY HELLO TO OUR NEIGHBOURS AND ALL GOOD MUSIC WAS MADE NORTH OF BIRMINGHAM (PRETTY MUCH). HERE ARE 10 EXAMPLES OF THE SUPERIORITY OF THE NORTH...

1. PEOPLE ACTUALLY SPEAK TO YOU. In shops, on buses, walking the dog (especially walking the dog). And you might actually know your neighbours’ names, and you do neighbourly stuff for each other like take their parcels when they’re not in, and they’ll keep an eye on the house when you go on holiday. And you’ll trust them not to rob you. Last time I got the tube in London, I don’t think a single person made eye contact with me for the entire 15 minute journey. Miserable beggars. 2. YOU CAN ACTUALLY AFFORD TO BUY A HOUSE UP NORTH. For the yearly rent on a one bed shoebox in the outer reaches of Zone 4, you can probably buy an entire house in Lancashire. 3. THE NORTH HAS PROPER SEASIDE RESORTS like Southport, Morecambe, Whitby, and Scarborough. I’m talking 2p machines, candyfloss and doughnuts, waltzers, bingo, big wheels, and dilapidated piers that look like they may or may not be about to collapse into the choppy, grey sea. Not to mention the jewel in the crown, sunny Blackpool. Or, to use its proper title, the Vegas of the North. 20

4. PIES. Meat, cheese, butter pies. With peas. And gravy. None of these preposterous organic grated cheese, artisan shallots and chip shop curry they try and pass off as worthy pie toppings down South. And you can get fish and chips for less than a tenner, AND it’s not served on a chopping board. 5. GRAVY. They actually don’t sell it down South. The daft apeths don’t know what they’re missing. www.issuu.com/stylemagazine

6. THERE IS RIDICULOUSLY BEAUTIFUL SCENERY UP NORTH, which can be easily found and enjoyed by all in five stunning national parks which include the Lake District, North York Moors, the Yorkshire Dales, Northumberland, and the Peak District. Yes, yes, Cornwall is lovely but it’s so bloody far away. Plus I believe it’s £9671 down there for a week’s caravan hire in summer, and there’s a strong possibility you’ll get stuck for 3 weeks in a traffic jam on the A38 on the way home. 7. THE FOOTBALL RIVALRIES. Liverpool v. Everton, Liverpool v. Man United, Man City v. Man United, and Newcastle v. Sunderland are some of the biggest occasions in British sport. And while we’re at it, the world’s oldest football club is Sheffield F.C. We’re passionate about football in the North, okay? 8. ARE YOU SITTING DOWN? PUBS IN LONDON CHARGE IN EXCESS OF A FIVER FOR A PINT. You can buy a round of drinks and a packet of crisps for that up here, because it’s not uncommon north of Watford to find a pub that sells vodka and cokes for £1.50, and pints of lager for £2. And we do proper pub crawls in the North, you know, in boozers with decent jukeboxes. You can go out with £20, get nicely lashed and even have enough for a kebab on the way home. 9. THE VIEWS IN THE NORTH ARE SOMETHING ELSE. Walk up one of the many, many hills (and quite possibly be battered by the wind and rain, I concede, nowhere’s perfect) and at the top you’ll be treated to a patchwork of green fields, rivers, lakes, sheep, and other delights you can’t see in London because it’s full of tower blocks, shopping centres and let’s face it who can afford a nice view in London? Also, the wildlife is pretty good. Native red squirrels and natterjack toads in Formby, seals in Lincolnshire, puffins in Northumberland and lots of different bird species at Marton Mere and Brockholes nature reserves in Lancashire. Mint. 10. NORTHERN MUSIC. You know, Oasis, The Smiths, The Beatles, Arctic Monkeys, Pulp, Kaiser Chiefs, Soft Cell, Maximo Park, The Human League, Buzzcocks, The Chemical Brothers, Doves, Elbow, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, The Happy Mondays, Joy Division, New Order, The Stone Roses. Rave music. The daddy of nightclubs, the Hacienda. I could go on, but you get the picture.

THEY MAY BE SMALL BUT IT’S WHAT YOU DO WITH THEM THAT MATTERS... If you take a drive through suburbia and look down the driveways, almost everyone will harbour a small car of some description. A little run about for shopping, nipping into town or even because the insurance is cheap for when an offspring gains the freedom of the open road. Whether it is the need for cheap insurance, frugal economy, shopping chariot or a back-up for the main family car, there is plenty of choice in the small car market. FORD FIESTA Like probably a large proportion of the nation, my first car was a Fiesta and therefore I’ve always had a soft spot for the little Ford. Now in its seventh generation, the current car is larger than any of its ancestors and Ford has used the space well. The interior feels light and airy for a small car and the boot is surprisingly commodious.

The current Fiesta has been in the showrooms now for around a year so now the initial rush has died down

Perhaps where the Fiesta excels, along with its predecessors is out on the road. While the suspension has not been set up for a track day, out on deserted A and B roads, the Fiesta will bring a smile to the face. Once back in the city, the Fiesta feels nimble and thanks to excellent all round vision, parking is a doddle. 24

www.issuu.com/stylemagazine

there should be some good deals to be had, especially on the run up to the plate-change season.

FIAT PANDA

SUZUKI SWIFT

On our shores the Panda is often overlooked in favour of its more fashionable little sibling the 500. But if you are looking for the practicality that comes with five doors and a relatively spacious interior then the Panda is worth considering.

Suzuki has long been an enigma in the world of motoring. Over the years they have produced some excellent cars, the Vitara especially has long been seen as the benchmark for any economy 4x4. One car that has remained a constant through the ever changing Suzuki range however is the Swift. Sitting in the Supermini category, the latest model.

For a tall car, the ride is remarkably good. There is little body roll and there is plenty of insulation between you and pot holes in the suspension. The car I tested came with the 1.2-litre petrol engine which although is only rated for 69bhp, pulled well and felt really eager.

Launched last year, interior space is quite generous, although the space in the rear has been created in lieu of space in the boot. The dashboard is nicely laid out with a stylish finish and the driving position is very comfortable, compare to other cars in the class.

Whether this will make sense to you will depend on your driving habits but there is quite a cost difference between the hybrid and standard engine varuiants. While these cars a bit for city use, I love to get them out into the great outdoors to put them through their paces. The sport model tested really held the road well, feeling lively when pushed and safe when pushed a little too far. The interior of the Swift can get a little noisy at speed, but no more than any of its other rivals in the class.

Mark D’Apice

For the first time, a hybrid option is available on the top models.

Boot space is not as generous as it could be but the cabin does feel really airy with that taller body. The higher seating position will also find favour with those who want a higher vantage point without wanting to go down the SUV route. The current model Panda has been with us for a few years now but that means that there is plenty of choice on the used market or some keen deals to be had on new cars. www.issuu.com/stylemagazine

DISCOVER AMAZING WOMEN BY RAIL Discover Amazing Women by Rail is an exciting new initiative that encourages people to explore the Calder Valley Line and Mid Cheshire Line by rail through looking at the places associated with some amazing women from history. From campaigners, politicians and businesswomen to writers, singers and artist, the project features both well known and lesser known names.

The project is the result of a partnership between the Friends of Littleborough Stations, Mid Cheshire Rail Partnership, Community Rail Lancashire; Women in Community Rail and the Association of Community Rail Partnerships. The project features a free 40 page tourism booklet and a website.

Researched by historian, rail campaigner and regular Style feature writer, Richard Lysons, the booklet covers both the Calder Valley Line between Manchester, Leeds and Blackburn and the Mid Cheshire Line between Manchester and Chester. Richard spent over a year researching the project. This initiative encourages people to explore these areas by rail and find out about the lives of 32 women and their sometimes hidden histories. The booklet includes biographies, suggested itineraries, tips on travel and a list of books for further reading. On the website there are even more women, particularly associated with the smaller stations along the railway lines. Neither the booklet nor the website aim to be comprehensive and people are encouraged to contact the website if they have any extra names of women to suggest for inclusion. Project co-ordinator, Sally Buttifant says, “When we think about having a day out or taking a short break, how many of us get in the car and head out of the area? We don’t appreciate that much closer to home there are quirky, different days out. Stockport, Altrincham and Rochdale are not top of tourism must see destinations...But all these places in Discover Amazing Women by Rail have something to offer the visitor and they all have rail stations which means the enjoyment of the journey and the destination - double the day out!”.

Rochdale is represented by “our Gracie” and visitors are encouraged to follow the excellent Purple Plaque Trail that the council produced recently.

moved from Knutsford to central Manchester when her husband was appointed minister at Cross Street Unitarian Chapel. After being used as a student hostel for many years, this beautiful house has been restored to its Victorian splendour and is now a museum and study centre dedicated to this extraordinary woman. It is open to the public on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday. The response to the booklet has been extraordinary. Praise has

come from HRH Princess Anne; The Duchess of Cambridge; MP’s; and major figures in the rail and tourism worlds. The national, regional and local press have been equally enthusiastic. 30,000 copies of the booklet have been printed and distributed throughout the region. Copies of the booklet are available at the Town Hall; Touchstones; Pioneers Museum, Littleborough Coach House and libraries throughout the Rochdale borough. www.amazingwomenbyrail.org.

The Calder Valley line links the major Northern cities of Manchester, Leeds and Blackburn. After passing through Rochdale, the line soon hits open countryside as it approaches the county boundary. Beyond the Summit Tunnel the line branches over the Todmorden Curve towards Burnley and Blackburn. In Calderdale, the line splits in two after Sowerby Bridge - one branch going through Halifax and Bradford, the other through Brighouse and Dewsbury - both ending up in Leeds. You will learn about the lives of Gracie Fields; the Brontë sisters and Anne Lister. Iconic town centre store relocates to Norden

After almost 60 years in the town centre, one of Rochdale’s best known independent shops, Denis Hope, are closing their Drake Street store and moving to Norden village. Founded by Denis Hope in 1959, the fashion store began as just a small single fronted shop, but soon expanded after Denis purchased the shop next door; and later a row of Weaver’s cottages at the back.

While all three stores continue to prosper, the decline of Drake Street has led to the decision to leave the town centre after 59 years.

The store brought an array of new and exciting European labels to the area and was amongst the first to introduce the likes of Henry Lloyd, Lacoste, Sand, Canali and Aquascutum to the fashion-conscious North West. There was the introduction of a formal hire department, soon followed by a ladies department in the 1970’s. Denis always believed in providing the best experience to customers. If you have shopped in any of their stores you will know that impeccable customer service is still instilled in the team today. It is this ethos, coupled with exceptional quality clothing that sees generations of the same families still shopping in the store today. The store - now in the hands of Michael, Denis’ son - has expanded further over the last few years. Hope Menswear was opened in Clitheroe seven years ago, with a ladies department added in August 2017. Hope Womenswear has also enjoyed a successful three years in Norden and is constantly attracting new customers.

The move, headed by Oliver Hope, Denis’ grandson, is already proving a massive hit with existing customers and the locals of Norden village, and they’ve not even opened yet. The store will occupy 794 Edenfield Rd, three doors down from Hope Womenswear. Oliver said “We are sad to be leaving Rochdale town centre but this is the start of an exciting new future in Norden. We feel new customers will be surprised as to how much choice we have, not only on formal tailoring, which we are famous for locally, but the casual side of things too.” The store offers well known labels such as Barbour and Ted Baker, as well as one of the biggest Hugo Boss ranges outside of Manchester. Their fantastic suit section includes bespoke and made-to-measure services. The award winning hire department, stocked with all the latest styles and colours, will also move to the Norden store, with a separate entrance to the hire showroom at 796b Edenfield Rd. The in house alteration service is offered on all garments bought, meaning no matter your shape or size Hope have you covered. The store takes the stress out of shopping, even offering a glass of prosecco, a beer or a cup of tea or coffee while customers browse at their leisure. Oliver commented: “We aim to make it a great environment to shop with the same levels of customer service as started by my Grandad when we opened. Joining our sister store in Norden also means that couples can now enjoy shopping together. We’re not necessarily the only place you shop, we just want to be your favourite place to shop!”. THE EXCITING NEW STORE IS SET TO OPEN AT THE END OF SEPTEMBER IN LINE WITH THE ARRIVAL OF THE NEW AUTUMN AND WINTER RANGES.

TOM MCNEENEY’S ULTIMA

The Head Chef of The Oxford Pub

Our relationship with fried chicken is always a dicey one, it’s reserved for late night takeaways af

whole drive home. But, done right, it’s comfort food turned up to 11, proper roll up your sleeves a

feast! I know it’s a little long winded but trust me, there’s method in my madness and your p

GARLIC & PARMESAN SWEETCORN Corn on the cob has fallen out of fashion a little lately. We used to have it all the time when we were kids, complete with those little sweetcorn shaped forks stabbed in either end. Nothing’s ever going to taste as good as my mum’s but this is my attempt to make corn cool again. Ingredients: 6 corn on the cobs (cooked) 150g butter, softened (and a little extra for the pan) 100g parmesan 3 cloves garlic, minced (smoked if you can find it) 1 green chilli, chopped small bunch coriander, chopped 1 tsp poppy seeds

40

Method Couldn’t be easier this. To your softened butter, mix in your garlic, (like I say if you can find it smoked it takes this butter to a whole new level) chilli, coriander and poppy seeds. Lob a little extra butter into a pan and get it to a medium heat, in batches if you have to, begin to heat your corn in the pan, turning occasionally, but you want a few little patches of gnarly-ness here and there as you warm them all over. When you’re happy it’s piping hot, place your corn in a big bowl or a clean baking tray and give each one a good rub all over with your flavoured butter, being very generous with it before sprinkling over your parmesan and a good few twists of black pepper. Eat them as soon as possible, ideally with little sweetcorn forks in either end. www.issuu.com/stylemagazine

HBH SAUCE Honey, Brine & Hot Sauce is quite literally just that, and it’s going to change your life. Get yourself a jar of pickles, tip the pickles out to eat with your fried chicken. Keep the jar a third full of the pickle brine and add into it the same amount of hot sauce (I’d advise something vinegary like a Frank’s Hot Sauce) then the same again of runny honey. Pop the lid back on and shake the hell out of it. Job done. This will keep in the fridge for a month but you’ll see it off before then. Goes well with everything.

ATE FRIED CHICKEN FEAST

b, Rochdale, shares his top tips...

and get involved food. So that’s exactly what we’ve got here, the one stop shop for the ultimate fried chicken

patience will be rewarded. This is food that’s good for the soul and everyone’s going to love you for it!

REVOLUTIONARY FRIED CHICKEN So stick with me on this one, there’s a few more steps to this than your regular fried chicken but the results are absolutely incredible. What we’re doing is a really simplified version of a fancy restaurant trick called sous vide which gently cooks the chicken for maximum flavour without it drying out. Absolute class act this one. Serves 2 Ingredients 12 chicken thighs, boned but still with the skin on 200ml buttermilk 1 egg white 200g plain flour Sea salt Spice Mix: 1 chicken stock cube 1/2 tsp white pepper 1/2 tsp black pepper, ground 1/2 tsp celery salt 1/2 tsp garlic granules

ROCK N’ ROLL BAKED BEANS Face it, when you get fried chicken, the beans are the last thing on your mind, sad, watery and neon orange. It’s time they had a bit of a spruce up and this is just the ticket. Spicy, meaty and covered in cheese, what’s not to love? Ingredients: 3 tins of baked beans (they don’t have to be great because we’re bringing the party to them) 1 small onion, diced 2 cloves of garlic, chopped 100g spicy chorizo 4 slices streaky bacon, diced 1 red pepper, diced 1 green chilli, chopped splash of red wine

1/2 tsp dried thyme 1 tsp smoked paprika 1/2 tsp ground cumin 1/2 tsp ground ginger 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper or chilli powder Method First of all you want to get a big pan fill it full of water and get it hot but not boiling, something about 80º/90º you can eyeball it or ideally get a thermometer. Make your spice mix by grinding all you dry ingredients together in a pestle and mortar. Divide it in half. Season your chicken thighs generously with sea salt and then with one half of your spice mix, making sure to get it all over, then divide your chicken between three ziplock bags. Pop the bags in the not quite boiling water with the lid on and leave those little bags of wonder in there for 20 minutes, then turn off the heat but leave the lid on and let the chicken sit in the water for a further 40 minutes after that you can remove them. At this point you’ve got the most incredible chicken for making fantastic

salads, pastas and possibly the world’s best chicken sandwich. They’ll keep in the fridge for up to five days. Clean out your pan, fill it up with oil and get it good and hot. Please exercise the greatest possible care doing this. For the record I used rapeseed oil, if anyone’s asking. Now get yourself 2 bowls, one with your buttermilk and egg white combined and one with the plain flour mixed with the other half of your spices. Carefully dredge your chicken through the buttermilk then drop it into your flour and give that spiced flour a good press into your chicken making sure it’s in every nook and cranny, before dropping them gently into your hot fat. Cook them for about 4 minutes each in small batches then drain them and place on a wire rack to dry out a little to give you an incredible crunch. This few minutes you have to wait will be absolute torture but believe me, it’s worth it. Serve it as is or on a bun with some creamy coleslaw and a splash of hot sauce. Yes.

1tbsp Worcestershire sauce 1tbsp soy sauce 2 tbsp brown sugar 4 tbsp bbq sauce 50g grated cheddar 50g grated parmesan

Then tip in your Worcestershire, Soy and BBQ sauces along with your brown sugar. If you were inclined at this point you could add all sorts of things you have kicking about your cupboards like tinned hot dogs, pickled chillies, sun-dried tomatoes or corned beef.

Method

Give it all a good mix and make sure the sugar has begun to dissolve. At this point it should look incredibly thick, dark and completely unappetising. Keep the faith.

Pop your chorizo in a big saucepan over a medium heat, keep it moving and you’ll be rewarded with all that delicious, orange, paprika stained fat that warm chorizo oozes. Into this lob in your onions, stirring occasionally and a few minutes later introduce your garlic, bacon, chilli & pepper to the party. Season a little. Easy on the salt. Stir this for 8/10 minutes then give it a little red wine. I’d advise giving yourself a little too. www.issuu.com/stylemagazine

Add in your beans and give it a proper mix together, working in all that magnificent dark bbq flavour. Turn on your grill, full whack and when your beans are bubbling away nicely transfer them to a big oven safe bowl or casserole dish, scatter over your cheese and grill for a few minutes then serve immediately. Save any leftovers for the best beans on toast you can possibly imagine. 41

WAYS TO GET MORE FROM YOUR MAKE UP

Make your make up bag work harder for you without spending a penny. Here are 8 top tips for using your existing make up in alternative ways!

1. Prolong your mascara by using it as an eyeliner. Pull the stopper from the opening before you throw it away, and using an angled liner brush, just apply as you would usually apply eyeliner! (use waterproof mascara for a longer lasting, water resistant finish).

3. Take your favourite autumn

eyeshadow palette (brown and orange shades) to create the perfect ombré brow! Using a shade close to your natural brow colour, fill in the last three quarters of your brow. Next, choose a colour that is one shade lighter and gently stroke in upwards motions at the front of your brow. This will create an ombré effect, fading from dark to lighter.

4. Bronzers and highlighters aren’t

just for your face! Apply a light layer of your foundation to your chest and Why not use a lipstick for your neck, then take your bronzer and blusher? Peach, pink and red tones begin to contour the natural shape will work well. Rub a small amount of your collarbones. To add more of your lipstick on a beauty blender dimension, lightly dust a powder and lightly dab onto the apples of highlighter over the peaks of your your cheeks. This will give a more collarbones. This will make your sheer finish, just like a cream blush, collarbones appear subtly defined. as opposed to a powder blush. For a crème pearlised blush why After blending your eyeshadows, not apply a small amount of your take your powder highlighter on a chosen lipstick and blend with your compact eyeshadow brush, spritz brow highlighter? with your favourite setting spray, and pack the product onto your lid to create a spotlight eye that is super pigmented!

2.

6. Add a couple of drops of

liquid highlighter into your matte foundation. This will add shimmer to the foundation, giving a more sheer finish as opposed to a matte finish, it will also act as a base for your powder highlighter, making it pop without having to use as much!

7. Use your brow highlighter to

create this season’s hot look the ‘ombré lip’. Apply your chosen lip colour after lip pencil to your lips, then take your brow highlighter (we recommend High Definition brow highlighter £18.00) and apply in the centre of your top and bottom lip and blend so the centre of your lips are lighter making them appear fuller and pouted.

8. Did you know, your eyelash glue can be used for the most on trend party or festival looks, simply apply a small amount of latex eyelash glue to your desired area and pat on a cosmetic grade loose glitter for the ultimate sparkle. Eyelash glue can also be used to apply individual gem stones to the face or body in various designs and will last until they are removed with an oil based makeup remover.

THE OLDE BOARS HEAD - HISTORY WITH EVERY PINT Middleton’s Olde Boars Head is a Grade 2 listed building and said to be England’s oldest public house. Timber used in the construction has been dated from 1622 though the building stands on stone foundations which date from the 1100’s.

The buildings first tenant, Isaac Walkden’s family farm lay opposite in what is now Jubilee Park. He died in 1623 though the family continued to run the place until the late 1600’s. His will contained a list of possessions including barrels, brewing vessels, various pots, numerous chairs and beds. This suggests that the place was an “ale house” that lodged visitors. The building was commissioned by the Lord of the Manor, Sir Ralph Assheton to provide for visitors passing along the main route from Chester to York bringing them through the tiny village of Middleton. These will have been visitors to St.Leonards, drovers taking livestock to market or tradesmen going to various jobs on the manor. The lease was given to the rector of Middleton in order to provide him with an income. The original building has been extended over the years, in 1654 using the same timber construction to the left (as you look at it) and in 46

the early 1800’s to the right by a brick construction, connecting to existing farm buildings. This part was used for quarterly court sessions held by Justices of the Peace and local magistrates whilst also being used as community meeting rooms. Sessions had also been held at the inn back in Oliver Cromwell’s time. Original cottages connected to the left were demolished in 1892 to become Dunford Street. The farm buildings collapsed completely and were demolished in 1920. The distinct appearance is of a “wattle and daub” type building, a “wattle” of woven timber onto which lime plaster mixed with horsehair is “daubed”. An example of this is preserved in the bar area. It’s distinctive “twisted and sunken” appearance happened early on in its existence shortly after it was built with no further movement though some deterioration was noted in the www.issuu.com/stylemagazine

1980’s. The building’s timbers are, thankfully, safe and as hard as steel. On the North side is the Meeting Room with a door which still bears the marks of the carpenter who made it whilst the windows still have holes at the base which show where the original glazing bars were fitted and the wooden mullions have original scorch marks made by a taper as a device to protect the building from lightning or evil spirits (presumably to “fight fire with fire”). The fireplace in this room contains the remnants of a 17th Century wall painting, discovered during recent restorations along with graffiti of

names scratched into the plaster including Ambrose Jackson and the date 1638. The fireplace in the Sessions Room came from the Assheton residence of Middleton Hall and has their coat of arms along with the date 1587.

Sam Bamford, a local radical and writer led a large group of Middleton and Rochdale workers to Manchester on a demonstration for parliamentary reform in 1819 which ended in tragedy when many were injured by Hussars with swords, the event becoming known as “Peterloo” The Sessions room is also known as the “Thrashing Room” as it was used for prize fighting in which Sam Bamford’s father won a gruelling bout in the latter 1700’s

In the 1960’s talented local guitarist, Pete Cowap’s band, “The Country Gentleman” signed to Decca records. They were tipped to be big chart toppers (The Beatles played a gig in Middleton around that time!) Pete eventually became a member of “Herman’s Hermits” who had huge chart success in Britain and America. Pete is honoured with a blue plaque close to the bar where he used to sit, always reading a book.

In later years Sam gave readings of his poems at the Olde Boar and both he, along with Rochdale born dialect writer Edwin Waugh, have honoured the place in their writings. Sam Bamford’s grandfather, Jeffery Battersby was arrested here for treason for collecting financial contributions to aid Bonnie Prince Charlie, a Stuart who tried to claim the English throne in a brief and little supported rebellion in 1745. The notorious highwayman, Dick Turpin (hanged at York in 1739) is said to have visited. The trap door in the lounge leads to what has become known as “The Dungeon” giving rise to stories of an escape tunnel leading to nearby St. Leonards. Turpin’s ghost is said to haunt the building and is mentioned in Sam Bamford’s poem about the place.

The Olde Boar was bought from the church in 1888 by Middleton Corporation with the intention to demolish in order to build a town hall. This was met by condemnation spearheaded by the Arts and Crafts architect Edgar Wood whilst the onset of The First World War in 1914 also interrupted those plans. There is an account of a German Zeppelin, then used as bombers, flying over the Old Boar in 1914 and described by a resident of Durnford www.issuu.com/stylemagazine

Street whilst in the Second World War of 1939-45, the Home Guard, or “Dad’s Army” enjoyed a pint or two at the bar after training practice. In the 1970’s on a Friday evening the “Boar” was quite the place to go but the 1980’s saw a decline in fortunes and several plans were put forward for modernisation. J.W.Lees Brewery obtained the building in in 1988 when extensive renovation took place at a cost of £500,000 with assistance from Rochdale Council and English Heritage, carefully preserving 400 years of history. A ghost, apparently, unsettled workmen during the renovations by pulling out electrical plugs from their machinery whilst they worked! It is surprising to find out that the name Old Boar’s Head only came into existence in the Georgian 1830’s, the name changing to the Olde Boar’s Head in the last century. After surviving so long it seems entirely fitting that the place has now come full circle, reverting to its original use of serving food along with its drinks as we reflect on it’s long and fascinating history and, the bar staff assure me, an active ghost! ROCHDALE RSPCA Right in the heart of Rochdale, the Rochdale Animal Centre continues to serve the community and its animals. For advice or information check our website www.rspcarochdale.org.uk or facebook page. WILDLIFE We are a holding centre for wildlife rescued by our Inspectors. They receive initial assessment and veterinary treatment before being transferred to the RSPCA’s Stapeley Grange Wildlife Centre for eventual release. These are just a few examples, ranging from hedgehogs to owls and increasingly the more exotic, all needing our specialist care.

WANDA Wanda is a very cheeky kitten that was signed over to us by a member of the public. Poor Wanda was suffering a very nasty eye infection which left her with a bulging mass where her eye should have been. At only 4 weeks old Wanda was too small to go under anaesthetic so she required round the clock care to keep the eye as clean and pain free as possible. This young fox was found tangled up in some football netting. After being cut free from the netting it was found to have an injury to one of its legs.

A young heron unfortunately crash landed at the caller’s house! Upon inspection it was found to be very thin and lethargic so it stayed at our centre.

This stoat was found very lethargic with a head injury which resulted in it having a head tilt.

Illustration purposes only - these animals are not available for adoption

www.issuu.com/stylemagazine

When she was large enough to be treated, the eye was looked at under anaesthetic and the vets found that the eye was too badly damaged to be saved so she had to have it removed. Sadly Wanda got another nasty infection and is currently undergoing treatment to clear this up which thankfully seems to be working. Wanda is a real character and has all the staff wrapped around her paw! She will soon be looking for her forever home.

NEWS & EVENTS DEXTER We’re looking for a special home for 11 year old Dexter. This stunning long haired ginger boy came to us due to a change in circumstances. He has a super loud purr and can be extremely affectionate. Dexter sometimes finds cattery life stressful so he can also be a little temperamental and lets you know when he has had enough attention. Due to this we would like for him to go to a home where there are no young children. We also think that Dexter would like to be the only pet in the household so he can be the king of his castle!

VOLUNTEERING Do you love animals, have time to spare and would like to make a difference in your community? The branch relies on the dedication and support of its volunteers to provide an animal welfare service for those animals and their owners most in need in the Rochdale area.

along to your nearest RSPCA Rochdale branch charity shop or to the Rochdale Animal Centre. If you have large items, too many bags to carry, or can’t get out, we’ll gladly pick them up. Our shops, opening times and tel numbers are on the ‘Charity Shops’ page of our website.

Some of the ways you could help include charity shop work, fundraising, maintenance and home visiting. The role of the home visitor is to visit potential animal adopters to ensure their suitability for rehoming an RSPCA animal.

BECOME A FRIEND Help to keep the Rochdale Animal Centre running by becoming a friend. A monthly donation can be for any amount starting from as little as £3. Your donation is important to us, and in return we would like to give you some member benefits including an invitation to visit the centre to look behind the scenes.

Other roles include practical animal care, working alongside the staff completing the day to day tasks such as cleaning, feeding, grooming and exercising of the animals. You will need to be aged 16 years or above and have a real love of animals. You will need to be motivated and reasonably physically fit as the work is strenuous. Many of our volunteers help just for the pleasure of being around animals whilst others volunteer to gain experience of working within an animal environment. DONATE Our eleven shops continue to raise the money to carry on our work in the RSPCA’s Rochdale branch area. We are desperately in need of stock for all of our shops, especially furniture and household items. Bring them

SPONSOR A POD The Animal Centre is a rehoming centre and our cat pods can be used many times throughout the year. To support our work we have launched our Sponsor a Pod scheme. MUSSELS COOKED IN CIDER, GARLIC AND PARSLEY

THEATRE REVIEW: DEADLY NIGHTCAP by St Ann’s Players

confident playing? Only the family doctor, played by Neil Bamford, seemed above suspicion. The key figure in every Durbridge play is, of course, the detective who unravels the mystery and reveals all at the end. Ian Mansfield as the detective superintendent played the part with convincing and confident timing throughout. Indeed a very enjoyable evening and a performance by a talented and well rehearsed cast. Director Dave Stopford did a excellent job putting the play together. Looking forward to the next play in October 2018. Richard Masefield

COMMUNITY NEWS COMMUNITY SHOW SUPPORT AT FAMILY FUNDRAISER

A fundraiser was held at The Empire, Rochdale, at the end of August to celebrate the life of local family man, Simon Field, who passed away unexpectedly aged 37 years old. The fundraiser raised over £5000 to support Mr Field’s young family at this difficult time, with GoFundMe donations increasing the grand total to almost £7000. Simon’s family and friends would like to thank everyone who attended the event and over 50 Rochdale businesses and many more members of the community who gave generous raffle and auction prizes. Hundreds of people attended the event which included live music, balloon modelling, a tombola, raffle, auction, face painting, name the teddy and even a guest appearance from Paw Patrol’s ‘Chase’. The event was organised by Simon’s close friends Jonny Bradley, Donna Kavanagh and Kate Chambers. Donna commented: “What a fantastic turn out it was! You ask for help and the people of Rochdale will come! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts”.

THE FLYING HORSE NAMED PUB OF THE YEAR 2018 The Rochdale, Oldham & Bury branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) has judged The Flying Horse in Rochdale Greater Manchester’s Pub of the Year 2018.Ben Boothman and his team headed by my bar manager Jon Hudson lined up against seven other exceptional pubs nominated by the Greater Manchester branches of CAMRA. It is supported by its regulars, and attracts visitors for its beer, food and accommodation.

FORMER MEMBER OF ROCHDALE YOUTH PARLIAMENT SET FOR ROYAL RECOGNITION The work of a former Member of Rochdale Youth Parliament in improving the lives of young people in the borough is being recognised with a ‘Diana Award’. Sarah Mahmood, aged 16, from Hollingworth Academy, impressed judges with her determined campaign work on issues that affect young people across the Rochdale borough via her work with Rochdale Youth Cabinet, supported by Rochdale Youth Service and Neeli Mosque. Established in memory of Diana, Princess of Wales, with the full support of her sons, The Diana Award is the most prestigious accolade a young person can receive for their social action or humanitarian work. Sarah was Rochdale’s Member of Youth Parliament for 2017/18 and is an extremely active member of the Youth Cabinet. She takes a full and active role in the youth service and has attended a House of Commons debate where she fought for mental health awareness and support, reform of GCSE re-sits and transport issues. Sarah has secured funding for two additional mental health support workers in Rochdale and has successfully fundraised for important causes to her such as Springhill Hospice for end-of-life-care and has inspired Neeli Mosque, where she volunteers, to do the same. Sarah will attend a ceremony at Leeds College of Music on 28th September, to receive her award and to be presented with an invitation to Althorp House, Princess Diana’s childhood home. Sarah will now be eligible for the Legacy Award, which sees all young people who are given the Diana Award from 2017-2019 nominated in to the legacy Award to celebrate the achievements of 20 outstanding young leaders, visionaries and role models from across the world, who have demonstrated their ability to inspire and mobilise new generations to service their communities, as Princess Diana believed they could. www.issuu.com/stylemagazine

While the rest of the course climbs gradually, once you reach the bandstand it’s all downhill to The Esplanade for the return to the finish line at the town hall! The fun run starts at 10.25am on Sunday 7 October, entry is £6.80 and all finishers will receive a Williams BMW Rochdale Fun Run medal. The event is suitable for children, but entrants must be at least 4 years old on the day of the run. Councillor Janet Emsley cabinet member for neighbourhoods, community and culture at Rochdale Borough Council who has taken part in the event for charity for the last three years, said: “The fun run is something for all the family to enjoy. Last year we had over 100 runners and it’s going to be even bigger this year. The stunning route around Broadfield Park has some great views, gradients and plenty of flat sections so it’s perfect for runners as well as spectators. The fun run is something that almost everyone can take part in and we are hoping it will inspire more people to be active in a fun and family friendly environment.” To find out more, visit www.rochdale.gov.uk/run
