Pop, stay, & play

Art, luxury, and plenty of cocktails, say hello to the ultimate weekend escape.

By OLIVIA ASHWORTH

They say that a journo’s first famil is one that she’ll never forget. Memorable for all the right reasons, my Style bucket list had another box ticked off this weekend as I embarked on my very first stay-cay to celebrate Sheraton Grand Gold Coast and HOTA Gallery’s exclusive ‘Legends of Pop - Stay & Play’ package. A world exclusive experience, it was a blissful weekend to say the very least, including a trip to HOTA Gallery’s ‘Pop Masters’ exhibition, ‘Legends of Pop’ inspired high tea at Sheraton Gold Coast, a serene trip down the waterways on the HOPO ferry, and an abundance of exquisite food and cocktails that almost had me rolling my way home on the M1. Paradise quite literally in paradise (Surfers Paradise that is), Sheraton Grand Gold Coast was the perfect luxury stay-cay. Located right on the waterfront, there were captivating ocean views, a never-ending poolside, and interiors that had me feeling like I’d walked onto the set of White Lotus season 3. While it’s safe to say I enjoyed every moment of the weekend, highlights included visiting Fine Print Co’s new art bar (a cocktail haven!), having the lovely Bradley Vincent, Head of Curatorial and Programs at HOTA, take us on a private tour of the exhibition, and our lunch that followed at Palette. Head Chef Dayan Hartill-Law has truly created a menu that feels like you’re eating art (in the best way possible). I have simply not stopped thinking about their ‘Soup Can’ dessert since leaving. A weekend I could quite possibly spend pages gushing about, if you’re keen on embracing the world of artists soon, be sure to book in from 1 March – 31 May. And in the words of Warhol, don’t forget, “art is anything you can get away with”.
