The new year is a time when I see a rush of patients trying to resolve long-standing injuries before they embark on a new year’s fitness regime, or who have become injured during their new routine. I’m passionate about helping people not only to recover from injury or ailment but also helping them get the most out of their bodies, whether that be improving sporting performance or helping them towards a specific health goal. As a qualified Doctor of Chiropractic, I utilise a wide range of treatments to achieve this from deep tissue muscle release, vibration therapy, rehabilitation, and balance training to, of course, chiropractic adjustments at my practice Osborne Chiropractic in Shanklin. A chiropractic adjustment focusses on restoring normal motion and alignment to joints (normally within the spine). Misalignment and restriction of joints is the root cause behind many problems, it creates pressure and adaption in the surrounding nerves, muscles, ligaments, and discs and over time this causes damage. This can present as low back pain, sciatic pain, headaches, loss of flexibility, and generalised fatigue among many other symptoms. To address this underlying cause a chiropractic adjustment/ manipulation, which is normally done by hand (though specific instrumentation can be used), places a very specific, fast, and gentle force through the affected joint to restore normal alignment and mobility. Some patients require adjustments that result in an audible ‘click’ or ‘pop’ whereas others are more suited (due to health reasons or preference) to much more gentle techniques. The adjustment restores motion and alignment to the joint, reducing pain, improving nerve function, and reducing strain on nearby tissues, allowing for an injury to recover more rapidly. It is a safe and effective treatment for many conditions. Joint problems can exist for some time before symptoms are felt, so whether you have an existing injury or are interested in preventing problems and improving performance I always perform a thorough examination, determine a diagnosis, and establish a treatment plan to meet your personal needs. If you have any questions or think you may need an assessment, feel free to get in touch at info@osborne-chiro.com and I will be happy to discuss your options.
