With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, we’ve made a return visit to the deliciously botanical-smelling Bembridge Flowershop to see the ever-helpful owner Ellie Tuffrey. An expert on blooms, buds, and foliage, she’s ready and waiting to give you a floral nudge in the right direction, ensuring your Valentine’s bouquet is as beautiful and heart-warming as physically possible. So read on to discover Ellie’s exclusive tips for personal (and affordable) flower-based gifting this 14th of February.

Often, we find ourselves in a bit of a predicament after the expensive festive period once we realise Valentine’s Day is on its way. However, it’s important to remember that Valentine’s presents don’t have to break the bank and there are plenty of options to choose from that can suit any budget, big or small. When it comes to flowers, local florists can often be cheaper than online rivals, usually giving you more flowers for your money, too. While red roses are a classic (and certainly make a bold statement) mixed flower bouquets can be cheaper and also offer you a chance to personalise. Actually, having asked a number of our loyal customers what they’d prefer to receive on February the 14th, nine times out of ten they say they’d prefer a mixed flower bouquet over the traditional option of a dozen red roses.

If you decide to plump for a customised, more personal, arrangement it’s worth spending some time thinking about what could make your choices more meaningful. Does your significant other have a favourite flower? Maybe a favourite colour? Or, if you’re married, perhaps a certain bloom or assortment will remind them of their wedding bouquet?

Finally, when it comes to arranging delivery of that bouquet, I always say: plan early! Avoid the stress and pressure of last-minute arrangements. We will be delivering on the days leading up to the big day, and also on Valentine’s Day itself, so book your slot with us and you can rest easy knowing we’ll be there to hand-deliver your beautiful flowers at exactly the right time. Of course, big bouquets and grand gestures aren’t for everyone. If you’re planning a cosy home-cooked meal by

candlelight instead, why not opt for a smaller hand-tied posy to sit on your tabletop, perhaps in one of our bud vases or glass milk bottles? Even a new houseplant could be just as thoughtful for the right person. Remember, it’s not the time or effort that matters the most; the point is to show that special person in your life just how much they mean to you.
