Dear Industry Can you believe it? It’s been ten years now and It all seems just like yesterday when I was first introduced to you. It was love at first sight and I never could imagine the ride we were about to take. You carved me into the man I am today and for that I say thank you. Like any relationship we had our spotlights and we had our heartaches. Your documented affairs with others made it clear you wanted me to be number one whether I understood or not.

Friends and family would constantly encourage me to take our love affair to the next level and making things permanent.

I wasn’t ready although you were. I had to take a step back from the whirlwind of emotions and the what “ifs” that sometimes blind our vision.

Walking away was easy because i thought you didn’t care, and your cold heart was frigid. As much as I ran I couldn’t run from you. Newspapers, online, every time I changed the channel there you were over and over again. The greatest lie I have ever told was that I didn’t need you and didn’t care. It hurt like hell. 10 years later and I can say I’m glad I stayed with you. Though the material things would never suffice for what you have done, my blood, my sweat and my tears were the best I could give.

REIGN OF {POWER} How would you style yourself in designer wear for

Formal Dinner: State Dinners are usually very formal. Amongst peers with peak lapel tuxedos there may be a gentleman or two that opt out of the black jacket in favor of a white jacket with black lapels. Unfortunately these gentlemen are trying too hard and making it too obvious. A navy dinner jacket with black shawl lapels affirms Mr. Christie is effortlessly ahead of the curve. Affixed with a flower lapel as a boutonnière and the Undecided velvet slippers from Stubbs & Wotton is a bipartisan effort supporting the US’ finished election.

Hip Event: For this event, consider a tan with orange windowpane sport coat, lose the tie pocket piece and shirt shown in favor of a plain yellow dress shirt, paisley pocket piece and flat front khaki dress pants. As a reminder that he’s still in the know, opt for a pair of double monkstrap dress shoes with striped socks. CL0UD 10 Fall is probably my favorite time of year, for a Sartorialist like myself; this is when the pieces I own in my personal collection get a chance to shine! Thus, when Stylezine Editor-In-Chief Nik, gave me my assignment for this month’s issue I was like Ok this is something different but I think I could handle this especially living in Canada. Canada is one of those countries that I truly feel defines the season Fall. The lush Canadian forests that explode with vivid hues of golds, reds, oranges and browns during the months of September to November are mesmerizing. Ottawa is no exception and the weather of course favors the go-to pieces usually associated with Fall; think scarves, trenches, cardigans, knits, beanies and toques.

The casual layering of your favorite pieces in warm, rich colors like burgundy, golds, reds, maroon, purple, olive green, greys and browns make Fall the perfect time to have a photo shoot in Canada. It makes lots of sense since Canada has the extremes of all four seasons making it possible to upkeep a very versatile but stylish wardrobe. After several weeks of planning and trying to gather friends with model potential to lend themselves to my assignment I finally got my two models Rohan J and Tracey M to come to the University of Ottawa campus on a very chilly Sunday afternoon. We had a fun time shooting on this day, the wardrobes we selected really inspired me. I had to play photographer, bootleg stylist (Kedar your job is not easy my friend), director and touch up hair, man I did not sign up to be everything all at once but I had to get the shot. The images you see are meant to convey the ease and diversity of fall. We tried to mix up the regular and play with patterns and prints mixed in with the standard knits and warm colors. Fall doesn’t have to be boring or stuffy, be creative, have fun and go wild.

SPEAK! is a Spoken Word Open Mic show founded by De’Angelo Whyms, president of Just Cause, and the remaining members of Just Cause.

Although the weekly event is established upon spoken word and poetry, SPEAK! also caters to an assortment of the arts, such as comedy, rap, and jazz. “It’s a new movement that’s long overdue,” says Josh King, a regular at SPEAK. “It’s a wonderful alternative to the usual scene,” he continues,” and the opportunity to speak, within itself, will allow the otherwise unheard to have an audible voice in society”. King highlights the fact that SPEAK is more than just an event, but an avenue for change, individual and societal growth. Furthermore, it is an outlet for artisans of every walk of life to gather and share, vent, laugh and cry together; to get lost and yet find themselves within the performances. Undoubtedly, SPEAK endeavours to showcase unexploited Bahamian talent, improve on and redefine the established ‘norm’ of the Bahamian culture, and provide variables that will break barriers and create bridges for artists of generations to come.

Their passion to invoke positive change in the community, as well as the country, unites them. While it is clear that there are many ills ailing the Bahamian nation today, Just Cause is geared towards procuring a movement via spoken word to speak out on the

‘’SPEAK! is a win-win for Bahamians, exclaims Sincere of Just Cause, “....it’s an outlet and an outing!” What accentuates the exclusivity of SPEAK! and Just Cause is the fact that each is the only event and organization of its kind with respect to methodology and skill set, and both were created by young and up-coming leaders.

“The youth are our future” has been quoted so many times that it has become cliché, but the impact still remains. SPEAK! is what the future of the Bahamas looks like, despite the challenge of trying to abolish a stigma attached to the nation’s youth. As a plan of action, the members of Just Cause have decided to take a stand, raise their voices and speak up, fully aware that there is more power in numbers.

Well guys, summer came, saw, conquered and got the hell out of dodge faster than you can say “iPhone 5.” In spite of the season of barbecues, beaches and babes coming to such a screeching halt, good style shouldn’t be placed on the back burner just because a bit of crisp wind will be in the air soon. From what to wear to what to eat and more, we took to the streets to ask a few of Nassau’s style aficionados on the go to events, restaurants, and fashion do’s and don’ts for the fall.

My fall staple would have to be chinos, preferably a neutral colored one. For me, it’s camel.

I honestly get more fashion inspiration from “street style” than any particular celebrity. Street style for me isn’t just “urban” looks but the way everyday people express their individuality through their aesthetic choices as they go about their lives. That is what is really inspiring for me.

GB KNOWLES What staple piece is new to my wardrobe: I had the privilege to purchase a few wrist beads from a friend of mine that designs them in the US. They are my favorite items to throw on with anything - they make my outfit complete.

What star are you channeling for fashion and why?

Kanye West is slowly becoming a fashion icon. His refusal to adopt a “look” keeps things interesting for fashion watchers. Whether it’s a regular day or red carpet moments, he keeps us interested with his changeable wardrobe.

If I had to choose a celebrity though, I guess it would have to be Tom Ford. His bespoke menswear line is inspirational and I’m always trying to put the looks together for less.

For anyone whose been following the G.O.O.D. Music family as they’ve continued on their “Rise To Power”, one of the names that will be in the forefront for you is Big Sean. He’s been doing his thing for a good while now. Starting off with his series of “Finally Famous” mixtapes, signing to G.O.O.D. Music after riddling off a freestyle for Kanye West (G.O.O.D. Music’s founder…Like you didn’t know lol) in a hallway and then going on to release his debut album “Finally Famous: The Album” to great success.

Since his albums release Sean hasn’t been taking any breaks, he’s be touring, featuring on countless records and working on his sophomore album “Hall Of Fame” (which is set to be released this coming December) and somewhere in the midst of all that he managed to put together a mixtape full of album quality music just for his fans and in ode to his home town. Big Sean released his newest mixtape, “Detroit” just as summer was ending and right before the release of G.O.O.D. Music’s compilation project “Cruel Summer” and though the tape doesn’t have as much buzz as it should it is still doing remarkably well.

There are a few stand out tracks that should get a listen from everyone. The Tape’s second track “24 Karats of Gold” featuring J. Cole, is Sean’s way of letting everyone know that though he’s finally famous he still has hopes and dreams that he hasn’t accomplished.

Next up, “100” featuring Kendrick Lamar and Royce Da 5’9” and finally, possibly one of the tape’s best songs “Life Should Go On” featuring Wale, a bonus track that just may make it to Sean’s next album. make sure to go check this mixtape out if you haven’t already, its worth it.

There are so many singers that are popping up on the scene everyday and some of them really don’t deserve it.

They either lack the talent that their label wants you to believe they have or they just have no story to tell and haven’t really been through anything worth listening to.

Well that’s not Elle, not at all. Elle Varner has been trying to do this music thing for a long time and finally got her chance when her first single “Only Wanna Give It To You” Featuring J. Cole from her debut album debut album caught the attention of all that heard it and gained top spots on charts all over the music world.

Elle’s next single, “Refill” was even more well received than her first release and even garnered remixes featuring T-Pain, Wale & Kirko Bangs. Elle’s debut album titled “Perfectly Imperfect”, which was released on the 7th of August is a fun a corky selection of songs that show just who Elle is a give the listener a chance to really get to know who she is as a person.

If you’re a fan of soulful music and true feelings then Elle may just be your favorite artist and you just don’t know it yet. Check her out and go out there and get that album.

Angelique: Thank you so much. I love what I’m doing and I’m glad it’s inspiring so many people.

So, Ms. Sabrina. We know a little about you, we’ve heard your music all over and seen the big moves you’ve been making. But where did it all really start for Angelique Sabrina?

Angelique: My first real experience on stage happened when I was eight. I entered myself in a talent competition and performed the first song I ever wrote. It was so amazing for me and since then I’ve been performing original material.

Is Angelique Sabrina your government name or just a cool stage name that you and your people came up with?

Angelique: I have so many personal goals to reach in my lifetime.

Music is the absolute biggest part of me. I’d like to think of myself as an entertainer first, even though there are so many other things that I want to accomplish.

For some time now you’ve been home schooled, do you ever miss the days of going to school and hanging out in class with your friends?

Angelique: Not at all. I really regret taking traditional school as seriously as I did. I put way too much stress on myself for a long time. I still see and talk to my friends when I can and it’s been a really great adjustment so far.

Ever seen an effortlessly beautiful girl who can’t seem cope with her own person. Who if cleaned up and poised would easily win the pageant if based solely on looks! The one with the brand new hair do that looks like she got it done by Freddy Krueger himself or that wears her work shoes until the lips literally lift from the soles?

A girl who when spoken to utters the smallest most insignificant answers to pleasantly significant questions.

Who laughs hysterically at the most obviously humorless jokes or statements? The kind of girl that makes most people roll their eyes in shadow or discuss her derogatively in private. The kind of girl who is completely disinterested in becoming more than she is and is confident in her decision to do so. The kind of girl who looks like she’d employ the idea of sticking bubble gum to the bottom of her own kitchen table or wear the same funky underwear more than once. (smt! Pisses me off!)

Having lived in New York, traveled to Los Angeles, gambled in Las Vegas and Atlantic City, partied in Miami, Trinidad & Antigua, enjoyed the Olympics in London and absorbed the history of Paris, she’s definitely hit the top in so many ways….

Always in tune with her desire to be in the entertainment industry in some capacity, Sherice also known as She’s So Major ran thru a desire to be a weather girl, an actress, then a writer, all leading up to what she now does having merged her passions…..Celebrity Blogging!

Don’t knock it just yet!

She’s so Major : The biggest misconception about bloggers is that we sit in the front of the computer, twiddling our thumbs and banging away at Facebook, Twitter and Instagram all day. Not so….My team and I run a tight ship. A normal day for us involves very early mornings scouring for stories. Liaising with photo agencies for pictures….Surfing through jumbled tweets and pictures of celebs, checking e-mail from publicists, following up on leads, reviewing albums from music companies and the list goes on and on….With so many active commenter’s we have to ensure our FB and Twitter community are happy…and I haven’t even touched on the events we must attend, running after celebs for interviews and editing interviews….

The daily maintenance of a website is a job on it’s own…but I’m also responsible for that. If the website goes down…I’m losing hairs left right and center. It’s more than a j-o-b. It’s a lifestyle…so for those that knock bloggers…are you bout that life?

Sherron Asks: Sherice, why do you think people are so intrigued by celebrities? Do you think it stems from a level of insecurity with their own lives?

I honestly don’t think it stems from a place of insecurity. It’s simply public interest. People are just intrigued with the lives of others, even ‘regular’ people go through the gossip and scrutiny. I just think it’s how people were wired to be honest.

Sherron Asks: Who would you say is the most sought after male and female artist today and why?

Beyonce and Jay-Z….and that’s not coming from a stan place. I think Beyonce’s worth ethic is something to be envied. You know the product you’re going to get from her and you KNOW that it will sell. She’s as good as gold. Jay-Z on the other hand is a little tougher just off of the fact that he can sell out a venue faster than any other artist! If Jay-Z tickets go on sale at 10:00 a.m., I assure you by 10:05, they’re sold out! That’s experience talking!

Sherice: SheSoMajor is diverse, we focus on American , British celebrities and Bahamian celebrities as well. Our biggest audience has been abroad. We get MAJOR love from New York and Europe and we also have our steady loyal Bahamian readers!

Sherron Asks: Sheriece who are some of your favorite local talents?

I love Sammie Starr, Julien, Sosa, M.Deez…there are so many talented Bahamian artists. I love Willis & The Illest, Angelique Sabrina, Alex…our time is coming!

The Ambitious Sherice: I’d like to think of myself as progressive.

I try to think outside the box and I love to tap into projects that most deem impossible. Something is only impossible if it’s never been done. I try to get the job done! I think I’m responsible for entertaining thousands through our blog.

Sherron Asks: Who is hands down your favorite celebrity and why?

Hands down, my favorite celebrity is Beyonce! [This is the stan in me.] She’s commanded the respect and adoration of her peers and is a hard worker, she’s simply the best!

Sherron Asks: Does it ever get boring ?

First impressions are lasting ones. You can be the most beautiful person ever but if you aren’t well put together, there will always be a pause in the minds of your audience (the world). Large neck accessories are awesome. Worn with a wife beater or a spaghetti strapped shirt can cause excessive traffic blocking!

It never gets boring because it’s ‘my thing’.

She’s So Major what’s your favorite fashion piece?

That’s a toughie for me. *Thinking* I think I’d have to go with shoes. But I’m a sucker for fine jewelry. Maybe I’ll go with jewelry.

If you ask my friends, they’ll say everything pisses me off! Lol… But, my biggest pet peeve is people who sit on their a** and expect things to be handed to them. I’ve seen people sit on their talents and it simply disgusts me.

Everyone has a gift and a talent. Life is hard, not impossible.

It has the ability to transform any outfit.

Ask Sherron Ghianna Asks, I am 24 and about to travel to University to study Law by order of my parents who are both successful Lawyers. I have a pretty long standing relationship with a guy who is 7 years my senior. Our relationship meets my parents approval however long distance relationships I’m told never work and by the time I return I am certain his interest would have dwindled to just shy of nothing at all. I love him and wish to remain here to study at The College of the Bahamas but that too is not an option in my parent’s eyes. They feel I would receive a more intense education and training abroad and won’t waive their decision to accommodate what they call some puppy dog love. I’ve always been very mature for my age and feel I am just as capable of being a great lawyer if I studied here as I would if I went abroad to do so. What should I do?

Sherron Answers: Wow Ghianna, 24. I would offer you the advise of travel and exposure. While you may feel like love is a reason to stay, vacating the opportunity of diversification and travel as well as a treachery education is something you will regret quicker than having left a love behind. Provided he is as awesome as you’ve mentioned, I suggest giving the long term a try and if it doesn’t work posture yourself for other relationships. Don’t commit yourself so quickly.

You are still young and with far more laughter and exposure that you’ve been limited to just being on one island your entire life. Date and give yourself the chance to experience what true love should feel like. You will love again and again before you find true love.

Face your fear!

A Major Statement from Sherice herself: Ah! When I went off to college, I was in love but that didn’t deter my plans to further my education. If it’s meant to be it will last, and if he loves you, he will understand. You have lots of time to live and find love! You can lose love, but you can’t lose an education!

Sherron asks: Sherice, what do you wish to be remembered for ?

One thing I would like to be remembered for is my work ethic.

I don’t think people know how hard bloggers work. It’s a 24-7 around the clock job. We’re never off and coupled with blogging I have so many other projects up my sleeve. By the end of the work week, I’m exhausted!
