Season Highlights

Some of the game day and event highlights during the year included; • Reserves Grand final victory at Leederville Oval with over 18,000 fans enjoying a great game day environment and everything Leederville can offer. • Colts progression through to the Preliminay final just losing to eventual premier Peel. • Largest home crowd of the season v Peel Thunder on the

WA Day long weekend – Nat Fyfe playing may have been a factor! • Delas last game – I was very sad to see the retirement of

Club champion and Sandover Medallist Lachlan Delahunty but what a great day that was. • Life Members Day, including presentations to newly inducted Debbie King, Mark ‘Dessie’ Haynes and Dirty

Dave Graham. • The League game in Kalgoorlie v Swan Districts at

Sir Richard Moore Oval, supported by RIO Tinto, the

GoldField’s Football League and the City of Kalgoorlie

Boulder. Special thanks the Mayor John Bowler and the hard work by both Graeme Borchet and Nadia Turner. • Playing the first league game back at the WACA this year at the temporary home ground of East Fremantle. • Weirdly, we played West Coast at Optus Oval as a curtain raiser for WCE v Geelong and then our scheduled home game v West Coast at East Fremantle Oval due to the

Leederville Oval turf being ruled unfit to play on by the WAFL.

Key Club Strategy

Strategies change and must address our most significant challenges. The future for us means we must address all the following key issues during next year and beyond. • The most significant strategy achievement this year has been the “One Club’ Model for the Subiaco men’s and women’s teams and a centre of excellence to house both programs. Des Penman Reserve helps achieve that goal and further development and installation of floodlights will be the best boost for these programs in many years. • Leederville Oval Master Plan with EP and the City of Vincent • I wrote last year that hopefully by the end of 2021 new floodlights at Leederville would be announced. That project is still to be funded and signed off. • Lions Foundation growth and funding sources and then an ongoing strong link and benefit stream for the SFC then incorporating a strong community engagement activation. • Fan engagement and game day experiences to continue to grow our support base.

Football Operations

The core function of our club is football, the staff, coaches and players that continue to set high goals, challenge each other and never take things for granted. Our list management remains critical given our club direction to develop our players promoted from successful Colts and Reserves pathways. Its very pleasing to have eighteen debutants in league football and combined with that youthful excitement and some targeted recruitment of our own Taj Schofield and Kyron Hayden so far, we should be excited by that as well.

I cannot pass without congratulating Lachlan Delahunty for an outstanding contribution to Subiaco and WA football. Regular state player, Sandover Medal, Outridge Medal , four Premierships – a really impressive list of achievements. Add to that a great bloke and teammate, he will be sorely missed by us all.

Talent & Development Pathway

Chayce Creedy has called time as the Colts Coach after 4 years leading this demanding program. He has developed into the best in the competition and thankfully he stays in our coaching ranks as a league line coach in 2023. Well done and I really appreciate your efforts. Maybe the kids and Carly might see a little more of you now. Stuart Berryman shows he has a bright future that will provide our senior program with a flow of quality players in the coming years.

Sponsors

Thanks to Holman Industries our principal partner for their support, Managing Director Wally Edwards was a regular at home games and always very excited by a Lions victory. Thanks to the North Perth Community Bank and Chair Nick Catania who are our major community naming rights partner. We expect this partnership to continue to grow in importance. Stadium naming rights continue to be unfilled for the 6th straight season, an important source of revenue gone wasted. The City of Vincent continue to seek a naming right sponsor that is shared with the clubs based here at Leederville.

Our support sponsors are vital to the club, thanks to Platinum partners SKG Radiology, Pragma Lawyers, AE Hoskins, Anders Elite, CSG Marketing and The Leederville Precinct for your support.

LIONS IN THE COMMUNITY

ENGAGEMENT & SOCIAL INCLUSION PROGRAMS The club is a community focused organization, and we will continue to support events and programs in our district which I hope we can grow; • Prostate Cancer group PROST – the tenth year this exercise and support program has been run in our gym for those men battling prostate cancer. The program assists over 30 men a week. • The Club joined in supporting the Prostate Cancer

Foundation of WA topping the WA donations achieved through the #Walkforhim Challenge which was a proud achievement by our club’s people. • Basil’s Community Raffle – provides over $25,000 to participating junior football women’s football and netball clubs. • Wheelchair AFL team in now the 2nd season of the WAFL

W league. Proudly supporting inclusion.
