Little League Report 2022

I’m so very pleased to say, “I’m back!” It’s such a wonderful feeling to be back around the Club with all the great Subi supporters, Club support staff and friends, along with the passionate Subiaco staff. Before I begin with a rundown on the Little League year, let me congratulate the Ressies for winning their Grand Final and well done to the Colts for making it through to the finals.

It’s been yet another different year with having a home game at a very wet Leederville oval, and home games at Kalgoorlie and East Fremantle ovals due to the wet conditions on our ground. In the end, we were able to play teams from all junior Clubs as well as teams from Kalgoorlie during the 2022 football rounds. Sadly, Esperance missed out this year but we will be sure to accommodate them soon.

With the threat of Covid still foremost on our minds, we decided not to take junior players into the League change rooms to watch their teammates run through their warmups so instead we checked out other parts of Subiaco Football Club’s home ground. This included a tour inside reception, the timer’s box and the coaches box at the back of the grandstand. This put a new slant on the day’s outing and was well received by all. A special thanks to players and Subiaco staff for their informative talks to the junior players, pre-match, and for the interest shown in our Little League players. Thanks to Andrew McDougall for his talk to Little League and offering to be their manager one day. Our District Officer, Jasmine Cookson, proved to be a rock for me this year, for which I am most grateful. She ably filled in for me on one occasion and helped out throughout the year. My thanks also to Will and Stuey for their involvement. As always, I very much appreciate the support and encouragement from Peter Capes and Mark Lawrance enabling our Club to set a high standard for a memorable Little League experience with ‘Lions’ Pride’. Little League appreciates the time put forward by our stalwart volunteers and the great encouragement shown by our Subi supporters.
