A couple of things I talked about in my election campaign were the removal of VAT from food at the Executive Business Centre, which has now been removed, and our Lansdowne placements and careers advisor – Rosie Wallis - has now started work.

Green Impact Students’ Unions is an environmental accreditation programme with an awards element designed specifically for students’ unions. Each year, participating unions need to show evidence of good practice against a wide range of environmental criteria after which they are audited and a standard awarded.

Bournemouth University Students’ Union won Silver status in 2011-12. This year after continuous improvement in environmental practice, procurement and policy, it has achieved Gold with a total of 604 points. The criteria for

Y O U R B ig S tudent M eeting M O T I O N S E X P L A I N E D On 21st March, SUBU held the Big Student Meeting (AGM), which was attended by students, Student Reps and SUBU staff. The Full Time Officers reviewed previous minutes and gave reports on recent activities and campaigns. Whilst the General Manager reviewed SUBU accounts and budget.

One month after the release of their debut album, ‘If You Leave’, Daughter headline The Old Fire Station. The 3-year-old indie folk band originates from London and initially showcased the solo wor k of Elena Tonra. Now a trio - with the addition of guitarist Igor Haefeli and drummer Remi Aguilella - the band were signed by 4AD. The band’s music features on various adverts and in several television series’ including The Vampire Diaries and Grey’s Anatomy. Tonra was Inspired by her grandfather’s Irish folk singing and brought up listening to the likes of Dylan, Neil Young, Bowie, and Blondie. She was exposed to a variety of styles from a

young age. Consequently, the sounds echoing from Daughter’s latest tracks are reminiscent of a cross between Sigur Rós and Emmy The Great, with characteristics of several different genres.

The Old Fire Station per for mance will showcase the sombre group’s latest album tracks and some of their better-known singles.

The ominous music consumes Tonra’s gossamer tones and the eerie album promises to translate well to a live per for mance.

30 seconds to show off their skills. They were under a lot of pressure but their hard work paid off in a fantastic routine of back tucks, splits, pyramids, dancing, and crazy stunts. The cheerleaders were marked on their performance, level of difficulty, creativity, visual effect, spirit, synchronisation, as well as technique, stamina and entertainment… So there’s a lot to think about. This is the Falcons first ever competition and the team are proud of their achievement, making a real impression on other universities.
