FAQs Why is there an election? The election allows you to have your say in who you would like to lead on the different areas of SUBU. Elections encourage students to get more involved in the Students’ Union.
Elections are perhaps the highlight of the year and each year there is a huge buzz all over campus when election comes around.
What can I expect during the election? During the campaign week, you can expect to see banners, posters, flyers and all sorts of colourful candidate materials. You will most likely be approached by at least one of the candidates, so please be considerate and give them
some of your time- they are passionate about YOUR University experience! Expect Talbot and Lansdowne Campus to be buzzing!
Where can I meet the candidates? You can meet the candidates during the campaign week commencing Friday 10th March in and around Bournemouth University campuses.
You can also attend the Candidates Question Time event on Tuesday 14 March 6pm at The Old Firestation.
Who is “No Suitable Candidate” and why would I vote for them? In each position, there is an option to vote for “No Suitable Candidate” which is there in case you do not wish to elect any of the candidates running for that position. If in the rare occasion that “No Suitable
Candidate” receives the highest vote count, then the election for that position will be reopened for nominations. The candidates will campaign again, and the same rules apply.
How can I vote? You can vote by going to www.subu.org.uk/elections and remember to read each of the candidate’s manifestos carefully and consider who you want to vote for! Secondly, ensure you place the candidates in order of preference- and you can always change your votes later!
Why should I bother voting? Voting in the election ensures that you have your say in who leads the Students’ Union, who you want to represent you! With so much at stake, voting lets you have your say.
What makes the Officers so special? The Full Time Officers are paid a competitive salary to represent you both locally and nationally on issues. They are also the main representatives of the Student body at high
level meetings and events. Moreover, the Full Time Officers are here for YOUand to make sure that you get the very best from your Students’ Union.
What happens after the election? The voting ends on Thursday 16th March at 5pm sharp, and after that, votes are counted, verified, and double checked. The results are announced at
the live results event. The next academic year Union Officers handover starts 19th June - 7th July.
Who do I go to with a complaint? If you are experiencing any difficulties within the election, or need to speak to someone about the candidates for any reason- then you can contact the SUBU Elections Committee with any worries you may
