Elections: The Full Time Officer Nominations: 4th -15th Feb #wishihadknown: Follow us on Twiter to get updates and retweets BUnique Week: Get involved and showcase your skills: 18th - 22nd Feb FULL TIME OFFICER ELECTIONS - WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT? The full time officer elections are the perfect opportunity for a once in a lifetime job, representing all of BU’s students, having fun and most importantly making change happen! SUBU is looking for 4 individuals to take over as President, Vice President Education, Vice President Communications and Vice President Lansdowne for 2013/14. Working as a sabbatical officer is a great opportunity to enhance your CV and really make a difference to all the students we have here at BU. These are full time, paid positions that any BU student can run for. There are so many opportunities to help improve the student experience. This includes running projects
and campaigns which will affect students both locally and nationally. Nominations for the elections kick off on the 4th Feb and will remain open for two weeks. Once all the candidates have come forward, it’s campaign time. It’s then down to the student body to vote in who they believe will do the best job. Two weeks after the nominations close there will be a week of voting from Friday 1st – Friday 8th March where we will be hosting a results night ceremony for all candidates. Then the journey really begins! WHAT WILL I GET OUT OF IT? The possibilities really are endless! Your job will influence decisions on how the uni is run, from the miniscule to the gigantic. You can use these decisions to make a difference to 18,000 students. The job is a rollercoaster of emotions, packed with early mornings and late nights
#wishIhadknown Hindsight is both a beautiful and terrible thing. It’s the thing that makes you think, “if only I had…saved more money” or “if only I hadn’t… stayed in my room all of freshers week.” Starting university is a challenging time for many students and hindsight is always prevalent when looking back at your student years. Moving away from home and starting a new life, as your own person, isn’t always how you imagine it to be. This is why SUBU Advice work to make your university experience as smooth and enjoyable as it possibly can be. The #wishihadknown campaign is a SUBU led, online campaign designed to get students sharing their best university advice, in connection with the SUBU Advice service that we have on campus. It’s always best to learn from the mistakes of others and so we’re asking you to tell us, what you’d do differently if you were starting uni all over again.

You may have noticed posters going up around university sporting the #wishihadknown hashtag. The idea is to get as many of you as possible, tweeting #wishihadknown to @SUBUbournemouth, in connection with @SUBUadvice. That way we can start putting your best advice on posters and you can play an active part in giving the guidance to students that you always wish you had been given as a fresher.
in the office. You get full training and support all year round from the SUBU team. The year is filled with projects, campaigns, meetings, presentations, themed days and events. So by the end of the year you’ll be exhausted – but happy in the knowledge that you’ve really made a difference.

Over the remaining winter months, Bournemouth Police are patrolling streets to ensure cyclists safety through the ‘Think Bright… Think Lights’ campaign and will be issuing fines to anyone that doesn’t comply. It is now law to have both front and back lights on your bike and £30 fines may be applied to anyone found without. Alternatively a ticket may be issued, which allows the cyclist seven days to produce a receipt for a set of lights. Fines will also be issued for anyone seen cycling on pavements. You can buy your lights at Bournemouth House and Talbot Campus student shops. Keep safe!
