BUTUAN Cit y– The Spanish government through its international development cooperation agency, the Agencia Española de Cooperacion Internacional para el Desarollo (AECID), is once again renewing its development endeavors with the Philippine government through its new project called the Local Empowerment and Development towards Governance (LEaDGov), to be implemented by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Caraga region this year. In relation to advancing the community-driven development (CDD) processes of DSWD’s antipoverty project Kalahi-CIDSS (Kapit-Bisig Laban sa KahirapanComprehensive and Integrated Deliver y of Social Ser vices), LEadGov aims to strengthen the capacities of local government units (LGUs) in facilitating inclusive and participatory processes that capture and integrate the priority needs of poor communities into local government poverty reduction plans. According to Kalahi-CIDSS deputy national project director, Camilo G. Gudmalin, LEaDGov picks up from where PODER (Poder y Prosperidad de la Comunidad) the project that AECID and DSWD previously partnered on.

More aid for Mindanao as peace accord looms July 15, 2013

INDANAO is getting additional financial assistance from the World Bank to finance the island’s various agriculture and infrastructure sectors on the heels of a senior official’s meetings with the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

THE total fishery production in Northern Mindanao reached 35,342 metric tons (MT) in the first quarter of 2013, up by 0.17 percent over that of previous year’s level of 35,282.65 MT. Data from the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS) in the region showed that commercial fishing which accounted for 25 percent of the total production went up by 5.2 percent reaching 8,864.80 MT while municipal fishing declined by 1.05 percent posting 9,575.55 MT of output this year. Aquaculture, the region’s biggest source accounting for 48 percent of the total fishery production, also went down by almost two percent from 17,178.58 MT in the first quarter of 2012 to only 16,901.66 MT this year.
