Briefly Tax collection up TAX collections in Northern Mindanao during the first quarter this year rose to P1.80 billion, up by 26 percent from the P1.43 billion collections in the same quarter last year, the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) in the region announced last week. The NEDA-10 said the d o u b l e - d i g i t g r ow t h wa s at tributed to the stric ter implementation of O plan Kandado and Run After Tax Evaders (RATE) by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR). Collections mostly came from income taxes and valueadded taxes (VAT) which cornered 86 percent of the total receipts. Receipts from income taxes which accounted for the largest share with 60 percent was posted at P1.07 billion during the quarter while VAT collections was at P482.3 million.

Construction boom lifts investments in Normin T

HE BOOMING construction industry in Cagayan de Oro City, mostly tourism-related projects, brought in P3.44 billion worth of investments to northern Mindanao during the first quarter of this year, data from the regional office of the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) here showed.

Comparatively, the influx of investments recorded is more than double than the P1.06 billion posted by the region during the same period in 2012, or a whopping 223% increase. Engr. Cecilio Clarete, regional chief economic

Clarete said the increase in investments in Misamis Oriental is mostly from infrastructure and services sector which is 78.6% of the total investments in the region. THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in northern Mindanao launched on Monday its small and medium enterprise (SME) Roving Academy to help and push forward entrepreneurs in their endeavors, increase productivity and meet the challenges posed by the global economy. Coined The ‘Big Push’, DTI said that the program aims to make microenterprise and SMEs to be efficient that would help government achieve the 2011-2016 Philippine Development Plans to alleviate poverty with inclusive growth. The DTI’s Big Push scheme will guide small businesses in: product development and marketing; equitable financing/credit guarantee; communitybased enterprise development; and shared service facilities. The Big Push is anchored on industry clustering as a key strategy for the development of the micro, small and medium enterprises with focus on market driven production; convergence and collaboration among national government agencies and local embarks/PAGE 11
