Briefly Job mismatch THE Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has forged a partnership with the Career Guidance Counselors Network (CGN) and other government agencies to address job mismatch in Region 10. The regional offices of D O L E -10 , D e p a r t m e n t o f Education (DepEd), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Professional Regulations Commissions (PRC), Department of Tourism, and CGN10 formalized their partnership through signing of memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Friday, May 24. Under the MoU, the parties committed to work hand-in-hand in the delivery of employment services to its clientele in the labor market. They vowed to strengthen collaboration and partnership to address the persistence of job mismatch and decrease underemployment and employment by providing students with relevant labor market information.

PH posts 7.8% growth, outpaces Asian nations

R IVEN by private and public consumption, and strong manufacturing and construction sectors, the country’s economy soared to a new height, posting 7.8 percent growth in the first quarter of the year from a revised 6.5 percent a year earlier surpassing other Asian nations, the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) said Thursday.
Data presented by NSCB yesterday showed the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) expanded 7.8 percent in January to March from 6.4 percent during the same period last year. GDP last reached its all-time high of 7.9 percent in the second quarter of 2010. “It exceeded ma rket forecasts and was also the h ig hest a mong ASE A N economies, pa r t icu la rly

Child labor THE Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) through its Lanao del Norte provincial office is intensifying its advocacy on the eradication of child labor. The DOLE-Lanao del Norte office forged an alliance with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to raise awareness among Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries on the adverse effects of exposing their children to high-risk work environments. A series of community-based anti-child labor advocacy and orientation on Republic Act 9231 providing for the elimination of the worst forms of child labor and affording stronger protection for the working children and its implementing rules and regulations were held among 4Ps beneficiaries in the province recently.
