Briefly Board of canvassers THE Commission on Elections has convened as the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC) for the canvassing of votes of senatorial and party-list candidates. The NBOC started the official canvassing of votes at 7 p.m. yesterday coming from the precinct level and sent to the Comelec server. The ritual of convening at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) was led by Chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr. Aside from Brillantes, members of the NBOC are Commissioners Lucenito Tag l e, El i a s Yu s o p h, Christian Robert Lim, Ma. Grace Cielo Padaca, Al Parreno and Luie Guia.
Initial tally T H E Pa r i s h Pa s t o r a l Council for Responsible Vo t i n g (PP C RV ) l a t e Monday released the first set of partial, unofficial results of the elections. The first data transmitted to the PPCRV servers at the Pope Pius Center in Manila came in at around 7:30 p.m. representing 30 of the 78,166 clustered precincts. Grace Poe led the tally, followed by Loren Legarda, Bam Aquino, Francis Escudero, and Alan Peter Cayetano. All are from the administration’s Team PNoy. ESPITE reported massive voters’ disenfranchisement a nd c omputer glitches, the country’s biggest business groups hailed the significant improvement in the conduct of automated elections yesterday.
In a press statement released immediately after the official closure of voting past 5 o’clock in the afternoon yesterday, the Makati Business Club (MBC) stated that it “commends the Filipino people for the successful conduct of the midterm elections.” MBC attributed the successful conduct of the automated elections to the unified efforts of Filipinos and their strong faith to democracy. “The long voting lines, the hard work of our teachers, elections and security personnel, and the constant vigilance of all are indeed testaments to the Filipino’s high polls/PAGE 11

Y ESTER DAY’S elect ion may have been described as “relatively peaceful” by both police and military authorities, but the bloody trail speaks well that violence still persists.
Based on the report by the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) (as of 7 p.m. yesterday), there were at least 15 persons dead and 41 others wounded in separate incidents, most of
