Briefly BPI-Davao income DAVAO City -- Net income of the Bank of the Philippine Islands climbed 43 percent to P8.4 billion in the first quarter of 2013 from P5.8 billion same period last year. In a statement, BPI attributed its net income growth to the 21 percent growth in total revenues taking advantage of the favorable market condition to register securities trading gains. At the end of first quarter, BPI’s total resources were P940 billion, 16 percent higher year-onyear as deposits grew by the same rate to P748 billion. In addition, the Bank was able to increase its assets under management to P758 billion or 6 percent more than same period last year. Net loans hit P514 billion, 19 percent better year-on-year. Lending to top corporate was up by 25 percent, while the middle market and small and medium enterprises (SME) segments went up by 17 percent and 14 percent respectively.

PH organic rice KORONADAL City -- After the recent shipment of black rice to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the Phillippines, through the Department of Agriculture, is shipping more premium rice to Hong Kong. These organic rice products are being grown by members of the Don Bosco Multi-purpose Cooperative based in M’lang North Cotabato. On May 15, DA Assistant Secretary Dante Delima and DA12 Regional Executive Director Amalia Jayag -Datukan led a ceremonial send-off of a threeton shipment of unpolished, organically-grown black, brown and red rice at the Tefasco Wharf in Panacan, Davao City. Information from the B iosd ynamis, t he marketing facility of Don Bosco MPC a n d D o n B o s c o Fo u n d at i o n for Sustainable Development, Inc. indicated that the shipment comprised the initial delivery of the 40 ton-volume that should be shipped to Hong Kong within six months.

Alsons aims to double capacity in Mindanao May 23, 2013

N A BID to corner about a fourth of Mindanao’s power generation three years f r o m n o w, A l s o n s Power Inter nat iona l Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of listed Alsons Consolidated Resources Inc. (ACR), is putting online an additional 282 megawatts of electricity in the island’s powerstricken grid.

T h i s add it iona l c apac it y will be put on stream by the company’s power facilities: the newly rehabilitated Mapalad Power Corp. (MPC) plant in Iligan City; the first phase of the Sarangani Energy Corp. (SEC) coal-fired plant currently undergoing construction in Maasim, Sarangani; and the prospective San Power, Inc.
